  • Dunlop Trailmax Raid is the hotest tire on the ADV market right now, and for a good reason. The compound and shape of it makes this tire great offroad and on-road. Crazy good wear ratio is what makes this tire special as well, and fact that it still grips awesome on asphalt even after all these kilometers.
    Have you tried it yet? Thinking of getting one? Any additional questions?
    Let's hear it in comment section.

    I currently have a motoz adventure rear tire on my ktm 1290 sar and it is great, but the price recently went from 230$Cad to 400$Cad. I can get the dunlop trailmax raid in the same size for 205$Cad.
    I doubt the motoz is twice the tire the dunlop is.

      judging by the reports, since we don't have them here in Serbia, people say Motoz lasts longer and that it is a harder compound than TRX Raid. IMO, Dunlop is really hard to beat in terms of grip on-road compared to any other brand in this category.

    To many reviews still have chicken strips and vent spews on them, but they felt they needed to give a review to beat the competition.
    You wore those tires out.
    Then you reviewed. You even have dirt creds and say they lose their edge at 3-4k miles.
    Thanks.

    Hi there. Enjoyed your review. But, I hope you won’t mind if I provide my feedback.
    I am quite the aggressive road rider and reasonably competent off road. But….. I am not getting even close to the wear you are getting. So, I am quite perplexed.
    I ride a PanAm (yes, heavy bike) so am running 36/38 PSI. I tried 38/42 and they were awful.
    If you’re running 29psi on the street I am really struggling to see how you would get 16,000km.
    I suppose I might try 36/36 and see how that goes.
    Thanks and have a great day.

    • @stavrozinio
      @stavrozinio  18 днів тому +1

      Yes, I hear from many people they get maximum as half as I have gotten outta them.. I do tend to train powersliding on tarmac and offroad alike, but I think it's just that Norden is 215kg, and I am 75kg with gear max, and since I travel mostly with tank bag only, basicaly sub-300kg (660lbs) is total weight for my most packed tours, and I travel often with only a backpack (9l) when I travel light. For example, my first Karoo Extreme (rear) made something under 9k (5500mi), mostly light touring during winter, and second time of using it I managed to pull out barely something under 4k (2500mi) of shredding in summer, until it became slick, so it has something definitely something to do with how I rode it and time of year and temperature.
      Also, have in mind that smaller radius tires wear out quicker, as they have to spin more times in order to cover same distance, which can make a noticable difference on long usage.
      Tire pressure is def a subjective thing differing from tire to tire and rider to rider. For example my current d908rr feels same at 14psi and 28psi as it is a hard tire and I am a light guy, while with trx raid I could really feel every 5%+/- of pressure change.
      Experiment with pressures is my only advice I can think of. trx raid definitely felt for me like a tire that should be run a bit under recommended pressure, but then again, it's my preference and roads I rode on are usually patchy and not smooth as highways.
      Cheers

      Yeah, totaly forgot to adress that. Great grip, the compund is really soft. You can see at 01:31 I am popping a wheelie no problem, and that was a 70% worn tire.

  • @defylifeadventure
    @defylifeadventure 9 місяців тому +2

    Other reviews found the front would want to wash out in loose surfaces. Did you find that?Also curious how many miles you get out of a set of Anakee Wilds?

    • @stavrozinio
      @stavrozinio  9 місяців тому +2

      I would always ride them at lower pressures, so I didn't notice that problem. They would stick quite good in gravel. And sand.. well, sand is sand. For sand and mud specifically I would go with Karoo Extreme for sand, or d908. Curently on Karoo Extreme in the back for winter season and I am pretty happy with it.
      Wild would get me to 12k km until rear would look like Raid at 16k.
      Also, I can get through two rear Wilds on one front Wild (I did 8k + 12k on one front Wild), and Raids are ready to change at kinda same time front and back.
      Hope that helps.
      Cheers 🤙

    I think your bike came with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires like my Tuareg, how do the new Dunlops compare to the Pirellis on and off road?

    • @stavrozinio
      @stavrozinio  10 місяців тому +4

      Roughly, Raids are a bit better on road, and 20x better offroad, no question about it. Pirellis last a bit more, but Dunlops keep the grip even when used up, when rear Scorpion STR would slide easily after around 10k kms. I wouldn't honestly consider Scorpion STR again, although it's a good touring tire, just for their lack of performance offroad.

    Great review. I’m trialling the Motaz Tractionator Adventure on my 1290 been fantastic so far. Done 5000km and probably worn approximately one third. Heaps of hook up off road. Great traction on tarmac. Can lean right over all the way no problem. Not too noisy. Have had the Motaz GPS on a F850 and they were great as well for longevity probably similar to the Raid.

      @stavrozinio  11 місяців тому +3

      They are hard to get by in Serbia, but are definitely (Rallz) on my to-try list. As I hear, they have better longevity at the expense of traction on road.
      What I like about Raid, is that they still have awesome grip on-road even bald like this. I guess they nailed the copound.
      Also, I never heard tkc or wilds screech when breaking hard - these do, which means good grip in my book.

Strongly considering them for my 901 as well but I am a little worried if there will be any wobble on my big bike from that front AX41 as the smaller 390 can get a little wobbly with that tire at 75+ mph. Thought about E07 but it just seems to last forever and sacrifices grip.

    • @stavrozinio
      @stavrozinio  8 місяців тому

      Yep, low pressures are so good offroad, and rims are strong asf on ktms and huskies so you can experiment. I rode my rear on even 0.2-ish bar.. like, crazy low (compressor would show 0.0), and it would stay in place no probs even on tarmac after the offroad session (running them tubeless ofc, you can see the holes in my rear tire). You will love this rubber. E07 will last longer, but its nowhere near to performance of Raid. E07 is offroad maybe a bit worse, and on road a lot worse (I had them on my underpowered KLE500 and they were so hard and slippery even on that weak bike).

    Why do you run them with such low pressures?

    • @stavrozinio
      @stavrozinio  10 місяців тому +2

      I prefer 1.8 on bad sceeneic and village roads as I get less ricocheting where tarmac is cracked and not even, and I often jump between offroad and bad asphalt so I don't feel like changing pressure constantly. In the end, tire is the first suspension that takes the impact. For highway use I go up to 2.2b. I would only go for (recomended) 2.5 on a perfect road such as track or equivalent, but every time I tried them at those pressures on bad roads, I felt very unsecure, especially in turns with cracked asphalt & gravel on road. Deflated tires slide more and sooner, but makes up with a smoother ride, and I am much more okay with sliding the rear to turn than I am with ricocheting front wheel. You should try it if you haven't already, it has its pros and cons definitely, and primarily changes whole way you ride a bike, especially in turns.
      Cheers

    • @PhilG221
      @PhilG221 10 місяців тому +2

      @@stavrozinio I understand airing down for bad terrain. I typically air down my tyres for offroad (by only about 20%). I think you said 0.5 bar on the rear for offroad. Aren't you worried about cracked rims? Also regarding the front feeling harsh on bad surfaces, isn't that a problem with the suspension?

    • @stavrozinio
      @stavrozinio  10 місяців тому +1

      @@PhilG221 0.5 is for offroad when I am doing some nasty single-tracks I just want to finish in one piece and as easy as possible, so I ride accordingly, and trails in question are usually ones where I move few meters each minute, so.. that's slow enough I guess. But Norden proved to have very tough stock rims that I don't really worry about anymore, and my go-to pressure for less-demanding trails where I ride fast(er) is around 1bar.
      Suspension on Norden is also top-notch, but i would be riding on lower pressure even if I was on pro-grade suspension such as Xplor or Xplor PRO. No suspension can polish the sideways ricocheting/slipping when you hit cracks, stones, etc. That's tire's job. TKC80 was kind of doing that even inflated as it had really soft knobs, but at the cost of longevity, and it always felt a bit deflated while being inflated.

    The thing with tires is that many factors need to be considered and they vary from bike to bike. F.ex. they might work fantastic on the N901 and KTM890 but how will they hold up on a Tiger1200RE or 1290SAR (more power more weight), or in other sizes (GS?) or tubed vs tubeless. On top you have many variations in tarmac and environments. So to say "this is the best" should always be followed by "for my bike, my riding , my environment" - but great review, awesome trails down there and great riding.

      Agreed. This is a clickbait thumbnail for sure, but they do live up to justify it. I am pretty sure everyone will be satisfied with this rubber. Ofc, different riders different bikes... tire will wear out differently, some people even have mould strings on outer parts of tire even after 5k miles, while I lose mines in first 50kms (just going to training on a parking lot can cut them down in few more dynamic sessions), but it will still exceed everyones expectations - agressive and chillout riders alike, I am positive.
      Tire is full of silica, and pattern is really cleverly made to cover majority of needs. I think I will take them out to track day aswell.

    Did the traction on pavement and offroad stay consistent throughout the life of the tire?

    • @stavrozinio

      Yes! Probably the best characteristic of the tire. Still grips superb, and I consider myself to be an agressive rider.

      @Mightycaptain 10 місяців тому +3

      @@stavrozinio I’ve had the tire about 1000 miles. I’ve been blown away. But was wondering if it would stay consistent. Best tire on pavement and gravel that I’ve ever ran. There are more aggressive tires for mud but I’ve found it to be acceptable. I don’t seek out mud usually in my rides.

      Exactly that.
      I will be putting Karoo Extreme on the back for winter season now as my Raids are basically slicks now, but for spring-to-winter season tire - these Raids are killin' it.
      Have you tried AX41 or Motoz Rallz maybe?
      I am thinking of trying them next year, but so far by reports, I think the Raid is still the best choice.

    • @Mightycaptain

      @@stavrozinio I used the motoz adventure. It has great off road traction. But put me on my a$$ on dry pavement on a cool day going 25 miles an hour. It came out from under that motorcycle so quick you would have thought I was on red clay. The compound is to hard for cool weather imo. I ran the tire after the wreck until it was worn out I only got 5K miles and it was very sketch on pavement the entire time in my opinion but lots of folks have had good luck. So I'm not trying the rallz. That experience scared me away. I ride with a guy who uses the rear GPS and has had nothing but good luck and is very complimentary. I've not ran the ax41 though I was going to until the raid dropped. I got the raid specifically because of that silica compound which the AX41 doesn't have. If you want good wet pavement traction you have to have a little bit of silica in the tire imo. And the raid delivered on that a couple hundred miles so far on wet pavement and I can't really tell the difference between wet and dry.

      @stavrozinio  8 місяців тому

      Well, only "road tire" I rode on 901 is Scorpion STR when it was stock, and it is no louder than it. Tire is silent on straight line IMO, and only buzzes when lean is initiated.
      I am currently on Karoo Extreme, and that is the first tire I actually can hear over the sound of wind

      @@stavrozinio Ended up getting an Aprilla Tuareg 660 recently. Since both the 901 and the Tuareg have STR’s on them, I put the new Raid tire on the Aprilla and saved the STR’s for the 901 when those tires need changing. I agree with you on the raid tire, not loud on the 660. Really a nice tire with an aggressive look, Motoz dual-venture on the front.
