  • This is my 1k Mile Review of the All New Dunlop TrailMax Raid tire! A week of commuting and 350 Hard Miles with the @FlyingMonkeyAdventureRiders on Monday's Labor Day Ride proved to be a great test for these tires. Good times with friends while riding and conquring all kinds of terrain! 90 mph highway ride to get to the meeting point... 120 miles of amazing dirt followed by 2 hours of pushing these tires in the twisties. Nice work Dunlop! Nice Work.

    One difference to mention, the Mission is bias ply the Raid is radial construction. I have a set of the Missions on a KTM 1290 SA. The wear is great but the ride with the Missions is very harsh.

    I've got a few thousand miles on these in a desert x. I've been calling them a 70/50 tire to my friends. Love them.
    The wash out is because of the huge gap between the lugs off center. If you lean the bike past that, you'll catch the outer lugs. This is super normal in mountain bike tire design, especially maxxis minion. It's super weird at first, but basically the tire is telling you to ride harder.

      I love how it hasn’t let me down! Strange at first for sure though!!! I’ve got 2500 miles now and they seem about 1/2 worn.

    I have made 9k kms / 5,5k miles on my Norden with them, and it is a premium tire hands down. Grabs offroad as Anakee Wild, grabs asphalt like a road tire. I think modern design of the pattern has a lot to do with it. It is relistically done with offroad after 7-8k kms, but you can tour on it for sure up until 15k kms.

Front feels a little vague and that always worries me but it is good to hear that others have similar reactions to the tires. Overall I am pretty happy with the ride and noise level on my 901E

    I’m in a weird spot, I’ve got the Heidnau K60 Scouts on my Tenere 700 and have only put a couple thousand miles on them. They loose traction in wet weather on pavement fairly easily and I’d like something more Offroad capable. Not to mention the Offroad ride quality. I bought the Heidnaus because of the long life expectancy and now I’m contemplating chucking them out for a set of these Dunlop Trailmax Raids.

I have found the on road performance to be more than adequate and the tires are quiet. Off road performance is mixed. The front is unpredictable and cannot be trusted. It will grip, let go then re-grip. Not confidence inspiring. Rear is pretty darn good in everything. Verdict: I Love the rear but I will not buy the front again until it gets some sort of update. My 2 cents....love your work Kyle!

    Its funny to me how the same tires act differently on different bikes. I went from the stock a41 to ax41 on my 1250gsa and it was ridiculously loud. But they were so hard to put on I just lived with it lol. Now, put on some Raids last weekend. Looking forward to trying them. So far, they handle better and warm up faster. Only issue ive had is they get pretty squirmy above 80mph but I hope that will go away once the blocks wear down some.

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  9 місяців тому +2

      Totally!!! My AX41 tires are not loud… that’s interesting. My Raid tires are not squirmy either, not on the 1190 nor the 390… very interesting. Love the Raids though!!! I found them to “humm” in the front of the 390, but not the 1190. Yoshimura have something to do with that ;)

    The Trail Max Mission are a bias ply tire. Didn't realize that when I bought them. I have them on my KTM 1290 SA. Like the tires. Only weird thing is on extended highway runs they go from 40psi cold to I already seen 50psi
    The tires get pretty hot. Looks like thos Rally's are a radial construction. That could partially explain the less stiff sidewall and the supleness in the ride.

    Most informative description of this tire’s characteristics I’ve seen, thank you Kyle. I like that you tested it on the 390, light and flexible sidewall seems like a good fit for that bike. I own one and I don’t think heavy tires on the 390 would do it justice. What skid plate are you running - looks like the factory KTM but it’s black?

    • @manybikes

      Thanks for your comment, much appreciated! The 390 can use and does not need tires the "big bikes" require. I painted my KTM Powerparts skid black. Looks much better! I destroyed it... and recently picked up an Outback Motortek. Will have an installation video of that here shortly.

    Hi Kyle, awesome videos, thanks for them, viewer from the EU here! I have a question. The legal requirement for my Triumph Tiger 900 Rally here in EU is to fit tires with the speed index of at least V. All the tires I would want have a lower index of T/ TL. Now, is there any practical downside or danger in mounting speed index T instead of V? I see people all around ignoring this and fitting whatever tires they want regardless of the speed index... Opinion? :) I'd like the Trailmax Missions but so far I Have Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR which have the V index but I would want a 50/50 tire with the T index. Safe to do so? Thanks!

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  5 місяців тому +1

      T and TL are not typically the speed rating but Tube vs. Tubeless. That being said, T is 118 mph or 190 kph. V is 149 mph or 290 kph! Look for the Number and Letter next to each-other. For example the Motoz RallZ for your bike are a 54 Q in the front and a 69 Q in the rear. Q is 100 mph. This rating is for a sustained maximum speed. I have ridding across the desert for an entire tank of fuel at 120 mph on a set of Q rated 100 mph max tires with zero issues. Can't recommend that, but I have done it.

    Yo your wisdom is needed, im thinking ktc80 front and motoz adventure rear, what mileage do you think can be expected on tkc80 front?
    I know u always talk how tkc80 is short lived but i think its mostly just rear thats bad, on fronts there are extremely different opinions.
    Im axing cuz i have very cheap tkc80 available from 2021, like 65$.
    Similar price i can have mt21 or mitas mc23 but i think they too aggressive for me for Africa twin, want something more road worthy, so tkc80 tread pattern seems perfect for me, all other front knobbies are either shallow or full offroad focused. There is adv front tire but its expensive, and this one reviewed here but even more expensive and mileage doesn't look promising especially foe that price tag;
    Cheers

    I've riden with them now 6k kms/3,8k miles and on the street they are great, in wet as well. But what made me change them, is when I went to Romania for 3 day enduro with T7, they tend to slip sideways. I never dropped the bike because of it, the tire seem to catch the grip back, but what if it doesn't. Exactly as said in the video. I changed for Mitas E-13 front, and it is much better in hard enduro setting (as they should be, Dunlops I think were not designed this way, so no fault of the tire itself), I order second set of Excel rims for T7 for hard enduro purposes where I can use 140/80, but for the original I'll but these again for sure. They are not as good as Mitas E-12/13 in hard enduro, but they are not desinged for this, and saying that I've managed to ride the bike the same roads as others with much more aggressive tires. Also in the dirt I ride at 1.5 bar/22 psi.
