Classic. No offense to Hammerin' Hank, but I'm happy Cheap Trick went back to a four-piece outfit. Cheap Trick will always be Robin, Rick, Tom and Bun E.
What a Gem this is, a Harder version of the eventual commercial incarnation of this amazing band. First saw Cheap Trick in 1977 as an opening act for KISS and I've been a fan ever since. Thanks for Posting this!
I saw these guys a little over a year after this in August of 1977 when they opened for KISS in San Francisco. They were just as crunchy and hard as this recording, and a bit more polished. They had such a loud strong sound for an opening act. You could hear Bun's drums all throughout the arena. Great concert I'll always remember. Too bad they weren't allowed to play an encore!!!!!!! 👍
Thank you so much for putting this up. Hearing this has brought forth some great memories of that time, and of my youth! I first saw them in either ‘75 or ‘76 at the Night Gallery in Park City/Waukegan. At that time they were light years ahead of any other band that played in the local clubs, or on the radio. I couldn’t believe their sound and how good they were! Then saw them several more times there, and at the Bighorn in Ivanhoe/Mundelien. Also couple of places in Wisconsin. At the time they sent out post cards of where they were playing. I went to every show in the area. One show stands out in my memory, but I can’t remember the club, it might have been in the Streamwood area? They had two drummers, the sound was so heavy, that when they played The Ballad of Richard S. That whole building shook! Last saw them in mid 2Ks in Napa Ca. Great show!
Thank you, guys. One thing, the first song is Downed. Down Down is another song that was changed and released as Baby Talk in Japan as an extra with Brontosaurus.
@@BunEsBasementBootlegs Interesting factoid! I LOVE this crispy recording. Sounds right from the soundboard to cassette. Was Tom playing a standard bass at this point? I'm not hearing any doubled strings. Or.. am I? My guess is yes on the 8 or 12-string. And the sound man's workin' extra hard on those flanger effects on Taxman drums!
Hammerin' Hank! lending his arms- This is such a treat. After a chance to be blessed with hearing a recording from with this configuration in the early 80's from Waverly Beach in July 1976, I welcome another chance to here this newly shared artifact from this interesting period in Cheap Trick History!. Thank you....Thank you!
The question for me is the context of the shot. How did he end up in that? It looks like this was the Studio shot for your first album cover did the photographer have something set up at this concert? How did he end up in this shot?

Never played a bad show

Love the loud guitar intro of Down Down

Downed was originally referred to as Down Down in this period.

Wow...such a cruncher harder sounding version of CT. Love Robin's young voice and range!
I always thought he sounded a lot like Lennon. Not a diss.

Finally got to this one Steve. Still some to catch up on but this was on my priority list. Thanks again to yourself and Bun.
One arm away from being a southern rock band! :) Seriously, this is so cool. Always curious about those shows....
Just saw them last month ! A dream come true! Thanx!
So fukin AWESOME!! 💯🏁🏁
Thanks so much for this! I've been hoping to hear something from this short-lived version of the band.
4:53 made my day 😎
🏁🎸 memories. 🤘🏼🎶
I have been very curious to hear this incarnation of the band; thank you for this one. Always great to hear I Was a Fool, also.
" Hammerin' Hank" sounds like character from a Whizzer and Chips Cartoon comic , however he is pretty good on the skins !
👍👍👍
Elo Kiddies comes on at 14:54
Thanks!
This is great. Will you be posting more of Bun E's Basement Bootlegs ?
Every Monday
@@BunEsBasementBootlegs Thanks
If Bun E was recovering from a broken arm, how was he playing drums at all?
I played with one arm.
