These little Datsun 521 series trucks are the most beautiful looking, most decent trucks out there. I wish with all my heart that these little trucks could only make a comeback again and become a reality in Todays modern society and world. I have fallen in love with the looks and simply, yet effective personally of this little truck, sure wish I could get one today.
I owned a number of 1968 ,1969 521s. I love the size, simplicity and load carrying capacity. My first red 521, with 1300 and arrow fender lights, grew up to have a Ford 302 drive train from a Torino, to be followed by a built Pontiac 2+2 350hp 327 double bump with 4-speed. So much fun.
I'm old too. They were such a great design and so practical, it's a shame that there is nothing like it anymore. These 60k monstrosities make me sick. Great video, great people
They sure were. I love the 520 and 620 series Datsun trucks the very best. They were the best looking, best running little trucks you could have ever had around out there. Wish they were still being made today.
Honored to have this piece of Nissan/Datsun automotive history on display at Nissan of Murfreesboro. Come by this month to see it on display in Murfreesboro, TN!
More like, the Nissan manufacturing plant is in Smyrna, Tennessee. I use to live in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Smyrna was 10 miles up the road from Murfreesboro going towards Laverne and towards Nashville, Tennessee.
@@danbasta3677 I have an 02 Nissan Frontier which is a vehicle of luxury in comparison to this model. But, since I do all the work on my truck, I yearn for the days when vehicles were this simple.
This exact same truck was my first vehicle when I was 16. I never thought about how good of gas mileage I got back then. To be honest, I was a little embarrassed of the color of it. We called it "Puke Green". 45 years later, if I was to restore one today, I would paint it this color. What I would give to have that old truck back again today.
Reminds me of my 510s, 620 pickup, 1600 roadster and other Datsuns. Great cars with quality engines and mechanicals surrounded by thin sheet metal. I could lean on a 510 and dent it!
I've got a 68 521 j1300 what a brilliant little scoot. Now airconditioned because it was a hot little sucker Queensland lol what a mission fitting that compressor. .
I had a 1970 model and the difference was the 70 had 96 hp and the 71 had 92 hp, it was the beginning of the tough emission standards, I put 50,000 miles on it the first year I had it, it was Bulletproof.
Except if you lived up north when they used salt and chemicals on the roads to melt snow. The salt and chemicals ate these little girls up so fast, so quickly, wasn't funny. The trick to keep this from happening is to paint the truck chassis with black rust olem paint, the floorboards and the underside of the bed, every conceivable area, you had to tear this truck down, paint it every two years in order to keep it looking good and not rusting out because of road salt and chemicals to melt snow in the wintertime.
Nissan, Why don't you manufacture this truck again just like you did in the past. Gas prices are going through the roof, this is an excellent opportunity for you to make a killing building these little trucks once again.
Was your 72 a 520 or a newer designed 620 series truck? The Japanese are quite famous for changing their designs of their cars and trucks in the middle of the year to the newer designs that will be coming out for the next model year.

Damn fine lil truck.
This is not a story about a truck, but a story about a man. Practical, resourceful, economical and self-reliant. A thing of the past.
Quite true. In todays modern world with gas prices going through the roof, these little trucks would sell like hot cakes.

@@networth8754 Wish the 521 series trucks could only be brought back into production once again. This time, 4 wheel drives on them as an option.

I have a 71 521 and need an AC on it as it is in the California desert, can you please let me know what AC you installed in your 521?
I have a truck bed trailer we've had for 35 years. Been out in the rain all that time and still solid. I've moved all kinds of thing in it.
Beautiful!
Lo quiero
I saw a pea color datsun in a mechanic shop still looked new

Sexy truck 💯👍✌️👌may I ask is there a price on your truck , that truck is a keeper belongs in a garage, only drive in the weekend only.💯🤩
0:37 the check says "Twenty two thousand twenty two + 24"
I have the 1972 521 but i cant get all of the original pieces in the inside. Does someone knows a place or a page where i can acquire them?
how about finding parts????
what size rims and tires for your 521?
They probably were 14 inch wheels and tires.
Those imported trucks rusted so badly after a few years when they shipped them over the oceans in large vessels from the sea water spray.
Very true.
That was the downfall of them though. And it was sad to.
Looks like it has an L16
It is an L16, in some markets they only came with either a 1300 or a 1500 pushrod engine known as the J13 and J15.
