My dog Roxy who I had for 14 years just had to be put down today, she was struggling so much through this heat and I couldn't bring her home suffering like that anymore. When I saw this GOTD pop up in my feed it really cheered me up. Thank you guys at Norms for all you do, I really appreciate it. Eric
I second this! Amps comprise 50% of the tone, but we're only seeing the DeVille here. I mean, I guess it's nice to have a baseline to compare the different sounds of all the different guitars, but TM's got a point!
well the thing is that these are some really expensive and of course rare guitars. whoever buys them is not gonna go home and plug them into some cheap fender amp. I don't see the point in demoing such guitars through such a cheap amp. i swear every guitar sounds them same through that thing. muddy
Fun fact- it's actually called a Firebird because the mini humbuckers make the same sound as a bird you set on fire. If I'm correct it was a Rhode Island Red.
Just to add my 5 cents that guitar sounds absolutely gorgeous! Mind it also helps having Mark playing it and Jen behind the camera! Best GOTD for a long time!
Just a reminder for those who've forgotten, the store is called "Norman's RARE Guitars" not "Norman's OLD Guitars" Some people have commented elsewhere that this is virtually new. Hell, Jacob Reece is virtually brand new, but I'm pretty sure they only made one.
My favorite Firebird models are the 5 and the 7 because of the looks and sounds of these models. Firebird 1: 1 pickup, unbound neck, dot inlays, stoptail or short maestro whammy bar. Firebird 3: 2 pickups, bound neck, dot inlays, short maestro whammy bar. Firebird 5: 2 pickups, bound neck, trapezoid inlays, long maestro whammy bar. Firebird 7: 3 gold pickups, ebony board, mother-of-pearl block inlays, long gold maestro whammy bar.
Neck Pickup: Simple Man - Lynyrd Skynyrd Middle Pickup: Get Off My Cloud - The Rolling Stones Bridge Pickup: Rock & Roll Hootchie Koo - Rick Derringer (How many guitars does Rick Derringer own XD)
Hot damn! A Gibson Firebird! You know what else sets a goddamn fire whenever it's played?!?? A HARMONY ROCKET IN REDBURST!!! (Please, for the love of all that is holy, Mark and Jen, can you do an excellent example of a Rocket for GotD sometime!?!? They really are kick ass guitars!)
nice guitar , great color , great mix of sounds , I really like those mini's , through in some rock n roll hootchie koo and you are stylin , right down town , thanks Mark , well done , hi Jen wooooo.
A ROCKER AND PURDY TOO ~ NORM SOLD ME A FIREBIRD V IN ABSOLUTE MINT CONDITION AT A FAIR PRICE ~ PLEASE SKIP NOT THUMPING THURSDAY NOR FLAT TOP FRIDAYS ~ LOTS OF PLAYERS LIKE A FIREBIRD PICK UP ON OLD TELECASTERS IN THE NECK POSITION ~ COOL LOOKING GUITAR ~ GOOD SOUND EVEN WITHOUT THE DRIVE ~ I DIG DIG DIG MY FIREBIRD V THANK YOU NORM ~ CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042 USA
I've been watching and lurking #GOTD videos for over an year, now I'm gonna comment on every video till I'm considered a "regular" by Mark and Jen, so I'm gonna start saying that I love me some Firebirds and that thing sounds beautiful on the neck pickup
Sweet baby Jesus that's a beautiful bird. I have a regular USA '16 Firebird V and I love the skinny neck so idk if I'd like the chunky neck. That VII is so damn sweet I'd force myself to love it lol
If your bird is on fire go see a doctor....1. Lynyrd Skynyrd "Tuesday's Gone"(it's actually "Simple Man" I ain't perfect yet...) 2.Rolling Stones "Get Off My Cloud" 3. Rick Derringer "Rock n Roll Hoochie Koo" Congrads!
Steve Redenbaugh indeed it is..For the record(not like anyone is really keeping track) I corrected my blunder prior to Mr Redenbaugh's correction. The semi unacceptable nature of my error altered Mr Redenbaugh's vision thus making my correction invisible...:-0
They only ever made a few dozen white penguins, it's hands down the rarest of all gretsch guitars. And NRG won't buy one, he's addressed it already. Too many counterfeits, they won't take a chance.
Beautful guitar, excellent tone with his personal rig. I'd definitely be interested in one of these except I hate that Gibson switching system on three pickup guitars. But it does sound great and it is obviously a quality build. Nice, good songs, too. The Sparkle Drive is a nice o.d., less compression than those nasty Tube Screamers.
Never, ever skip flat-top Friday again!!! It's my favorite day of the week, I look especially forward to it. Thanks for ruining an already shit-fuck of a day. Goya Rangemaster might make me feel better.
How do you cancel flattop Friday? That's literally the only video of the week of yours I watch for sure. But I'm more of an acoustic guy. What a bummer.
House to myself this weekend. It's going to be 15 hours of chilling with Zeppelin, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Lynard Skynard, and a ton of other 60s and 70s Rock 🤘🤘🎵🎵✌
I've watched GOD since the beginning and Flat top Friday is by far the best day out the week man, I'm gutted there's no acoustic today mark would you consider a double flat top for next week please. Kev , United Kingdom
Gibson's first offset? I love Firebirds and especially Thunderbirds, but isn't it just a rounded Explorer shape? Although, referring to it as an offset is interesting, considering that those mini-humbuckers have a bark that's very similar to Jags and Jazzmasters.
They're both rounded Explorers. All three guitars have the same basic shape, Gibson just took the Explorer template and distorted it a little bit more with each iteration. With the RD they exaggerated the rounded edges of the Firebird and curved the cutaway up toward the neck.
Jacob Reece there's no such thing, but I think there was a XII, a twelve string. The coolest would be a double neck six and twelve with neck through design. Call it a firebird eighteen, XVIII?
I just thought you played a HIM song as the first Mark, the picking sounded very similar to In Joy And Sorrow but I realized it was something else when you played the other part Please play something by HIM whenever you get a SG Mark :)

JJ's Reversals I love all dogs man! I'm also praying for you guys in Texas.
trebor trahrebe Amen brother... thanks for the comment.
Sorry to hear that friend
Thank you, Colin.
I wish you would do amps too. like old different fenders, marshalls, vox, freidman, mesa, etc. something that will compliment the guitar's tone.
and more metal guitars. 😈🤘🏼
I second this! Amps comprise 50% of the tone, but we're only seeing the DeVille here.
I mean, I guess it's nice to have a baseline to compare the different sounds of all the different guitars, but TM's got a point!
Yes, Tony Montoya I agree `specialy a Marshall
Tony Montoya
agree to some extent, but this is Normans Rare Guitars, not Amps 😂😂😂🎸👍🏼
well the thing is that these are some really expensive and of course rare guitars. whoever buys them is not gonna go home and plug them into some cheap fender amp. I don't see the point in demoing such guitars through such a cheap amp. i swear every guitar sounds them same through that thing. muddy
That guitar is nothing but eye candy ! wow ! And Mark rocked it with those tunes really enjoyed this one today.
Fun fact- it's actually called a Firebird because the mini humbuckers make the same sound as a bird you set on fire. If I'm correct it was a Rhode Island Red.
JJ's Reversals no I have not I'll look it up right now
That guitar did too much LSD
ha
I thought it would never happen. Thank you Mark
billgelder
😂😂😂👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🎸🎸🎸
I thought they sold it
Just to add my 5 cents that guitar sounds absolutely gorgeous! Mind it also helps having Mark playing it and Jen behind the camera! Best GOTD for a long time!
Beautiful guitar and another great demo by Mark with some Skynryd and Derringer.
This is my favourite guitar in the history of ever!
Cool ! I just got a new Firebird Vibrola and I'm in LOVE ! Thanks Mark & Jen !
Just a reminder for those who've forgotten, the store is called "Norman's RARE Guitars" not "Norman's OLD Guitars"
Some people have commented elsewhere that this is virtually new. Hell, Jacob Reece is virtually brand new, but I'm pretty sure they only made one.
Thank you Mark!! Simple man is my favorite song!!!
im watching this while playing my custom shop firebird, firebirds rule man
I love this show.

Bridge Pickup: Rock & Roll Hootchie Koo - Rick Derringer (How many guitars does Rick Derringer own XD)
My dream guitar...
Been waiting for this mark. I couldn't be happier 😲
Fire bird Friday sick!!!!!Beautiful guitar!! 🎸
Hot damn! A Gibson Firebird!

A fine musical selection to highlight the guitar.
Sweet firebird! Great songs and playing Mark!
That was such a cool little jam session there. Good job.
Firebird Friday!!! I'm in love
Love the mini humbuckers! The high end Gibbons are beautiful.
I am now convinced I need a Firebird

Totally worthy axe for guitar of the day...thanks Mark & Jen....
MARK ROCKED THAT FIREBIRD!!!!!
That one dislikes gotta be frank like "this fuckin guy putting a 2016 on a vintage guitar show"
Fuz I mean, it’s Norman’s RARE Guitars.
Very cool! Beautiful guitar. You guys are the best. 😀
It's fucking cold in Massachusetts right now. I wish it was that hot here right now
I know it's like 69 degrees here in mass
I'm in northwestern Pennsylvania and it's cold as balls too. Low 40s tonight! I'd love another hot month or 6
Freaking Firebird Friday, fabulous!
I love the firebird my favorite really digging that gold color too
Simply beautiful axe
Clean neck pup is amazing!
Awesome guitar.
Bravo🎸M《☆》My 2002 Epiphone Firebird VII is wired so the middle pup volume knob must be rolled off to get the bridge pickup alone👍✔Nice jam Brother🖖🤓🏈
Very very good Mark, thanks... Hi Jen! :-)
Best show on TV!!!
I knew there was a reason I didn't receive my Guitar of the day for the past 2 days, UA-cam Unsubbed me. Great choice as always!
Thanks Mark, you da man!
IMHO the clean sound of the neck pick up is one of the best in this show I have ever heard. And it is not the vintage guitar!
Mark, you an amazing player of all guitars, I love music and guitars, want to play, wish I could, maybe I could, hey, just a dreamer......leif
That thang is Dragon Fire !! 🔥
Well done Mark! That first tune will put sold on it.
MAN OF THE PEOPLE! PLAY WINGS TOMORROW!
Thank you!!!
Is the simple man distortion tone coming from the amp?
I've been watching and lurking #GOTD videos for over an year, now I'm gonna comment on every video till I'm considered a "regular" by Mark and Jen, so I'm gonna start saying that I love me some Firebirds and that thing sounds beautiful on the neck pickup
Markus - dumb question but are these reissues neck-through or set neck? Wasnt that the big deal with the orig Firebirds?
Tioga Fretworks they are all neck-thru
THERE WE GO
Wow sounds great!
Sweet baby Jesus that's a beautiful bird. I have a regular USA '16 Firebird V and I love the skinny neck so idk if I'd like the chunky neck. That VII is so damn sweet I'd force myself to love it lol
Who says they don't make 'em like they used to. Sweet guitar!

I`m sorry... no offence intended
Steve Redenbaugh not offended at all! I'm just having some fun with it..If anything I'm sorry if my sarcasm(I'm a new yorker..) offended you..
Originally from Chicago area here... my life is Sarcastic
Hey Mark, can you please do a Penguin? In my opinion the greatest solid body guitar ever made, keep your strats, teles and les pauls!
He`ll have to get some one to hold it still
Maybe play some White Stripes because I think Jack White owns one
They only ever made a few dozen white penguins, it's hands down the rarest of all gretsch guitars. And NRG won't buy one, he's addressed it already. Too many counterfeits, they won't take a chance.
One of the re-issue ones would do, or even a Stephen Stern Duo Jet
Andrew Pappas Yes he owns one but he never used it in The White Stripes. He should play The Raconteurs because that's where it was used
awesome guitar.
Great job Mark.👍 Cool job. Hi jen.😊.
That is an amazing guitar! Thanks for showing it off. It'll be gone by tomorrow I'm sure.
Damn cold here in Buffalo,ny too
Do a little "The Making of Guitar of the Day" documentary & lets see Jen doing her magic behind the camera!
Is the red ladder the tallest one there?
Do some Rival Sons next time you do a Firebird!
Firebird Friday was cool
Play some Primus for my Birthday Mark! It's on Thumpin' Thursday!
Firebird Friday!! 😀
Another sweet guitar. As usual. But now I gotta put my acoustic away and plug in. Friday nite just got loud!!
Firebird Friday. I dig it.
Beautful guitar, excellent tone with his personal rig. I'd definitely be interested in one of

Thank you Mark thank you! Look at that damn thing, it's beautiful!!! You take a check? Lmbo
Finally! Happy Tommy here ✌️
How do you cancel flattop Friday? That's literally the only video of the week of yours I watch for sure. But I'm more of an acoustic guy. What a bummer.

That’s fun stuff
You’re already wearing the Cheap Trick shirt, Mark. Don’t you think it’s time to do a Hamer?
Pretty sweet Mark! Always liked the reverse firebird body better.
House to myself this weekend. It's going to be 15 hours of chilling with Zeppelin, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Lynard Skynard, and a ton of other 60s and 70s Rock 🤘🤘🎵🎵✌
Jacob Reece same........but I'll be doing it with a brand new les paul traditional 😝😎
willdude have fun
Jacob Reece I double dare you to listen to a concept album by FZ called Joe's garage acts 1 , 2 and 3 open minded
Fender jazz 62 Absolutely thanks for the recommendation
Jacob Reece Man we would get along great you named every band I would've except Sabbath and Floyd wish you much fun
We need heavy metal monday!
I've watched GOD since the beginning and Flat top Friday is by far the best day out the week man, I'm gutted there's no acoustic today mark would you consider a double flat top for next week please. Kev , United Kingdom

John Maloney I think the RD is more of a rounded explorer and the explorer isn't an offset because the two cut ins on the body are parallel
They're both rounded Explorers. All three guitars have the same basic shape, Gibson just took the Explorer template and distorted it a little bit more with each iteration. With the RD they exaggerated the rounded edges of the Firebird and curved the cutaway up toward the neck.
Thats fucking amazing
Happy Firebird Friday
everyone! Stick around,
this episode's worth it!
Fuck Yeah!!!!! Thanks Marc you rock brother!!!!!!!!.
Cool guitar! Let's see a Hagstrom!
Is that a Firebird IX because it's a gold finish?
Jacob Reece there's no such thing, but I think there was a XII, a twelve string. The coolest would be a double neck six and twelve with neck through design. Call it a firebird eighteen, XVIII?
do a dan armstrong guitar!
Finally! I didn't realize it was that new but still awesome. Thanks Mark. Awesome guitar and Awesome playing
Man what an awesome fucking axe.
hard not to think of Allen Collins when playing a firebird
It's even harder not to think about Roxy Music when it comes to reverse Firebirds.
Or Brian Jones
@@noname.___ 《☆》& Stephen Stills⛾🍕
Come Mark, can we see a Danelectro Bass this coming Thursday? It will make me feel better on the day I get my gallbladder removed.
I just thought you played a HIM song as the first Mark, the picking sounded very similar to In Joy And Sorrow but I realized it was something else when you played the other part
Please play something by HIM whenever you get a SG Mark :)
What’s the first riff he plays
Simple Man
Firebird! YEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!
