I've been collecting comics for well over 30 years and it always amazes how stupid some dealers get at shows. You promoted the Big Lick Comics owner and his show to give him some exposure, and yet he treats you like that. I'm in Canada and I find most of the dealers here very pleasant overall and I must say kindness can go a long ways.
Thank you for sharing what a Comic Convention is like outside of California. Most people are just walking around looking at pins, buttons,and god help us funko pops. Comic book dealers are overpriced or acting stressed out by all the people. Something about the atmosphere just seems off at the few shows I go to. Maybe it’s the ghostbusters in kilts, maybe it’s me. I mostly walk around wondering where the comic books are and where is the dealer wanting to sell some of them.
Hey Strap-On, glad you're doing well. Good for you for doing this stuff when no one else is. (Documenting your haggling, etc.) Stuff whomever thinks it's not appropriate! You find out quick who you can deal with and who you can't. Thanks.

Im going to this comic con this Saturday for big lick comic con there some really good vendors but there is alot that over price there stuff thats why I try to look for the best deals but I use a ebay app I can scan stuff to see how much there going for
I recently participated in a Toy con mostly selling anime merchandise, it is not exactly the same a comic convention but it has similiar feel. When people asked me how much i was selling the figures and other merch they were stunned as i was selling them cheaply compared to what others were selling them. Pretty much everyone overcharges here. i mean would you rather pay 90euros for a prize figure or get the same figure for 25e? like cmon you have to know the real market value of this stuff not everything is an ultra rare collectible.
Had the same bad experience at the Tampa bay comic con! Swore them off for good! Dealers were far and few in between overpriced and unwilling to trade! I brought a newsstand she hulk 1 when it was hot and not even an offer by multiple dealers! One local lcs recognize me and didn’t blow me off! I’ve bought quite a few keys from him sense! You would think paying big bucks for a spot they would either have a personality or could grow one for a weekend! Their loss some common decency and courtesy goes a long way in my book! Sorry you had the same empty experience!
EXCELLENT! You have reconfirmed what I have been saying for years. The cons are everything but comic books. 6 dealers in 100,000 SF of space. And now, sissies afraid of a camera. Keep it up SGC! Continue to document these comic con videos from the buyers point of view. We have enough comic con videos documenting the dealers point of view. Of course they say "the market is strong". "There isn't a market correction going on". Augghh!
I am only guessing, but it seems that dealers are stressed out and are in a panic, because the comic book trade/industry was doing so well and now it is not. When I go to my LCS I rarely see the owner change prices. Do not get me wrong, if I was interested in something he would talk to me and see if we can make a deal. I realize changing pricing on large stocks can be a HUGE pain in the rear and cost a lot of money (paying someone to do it, or time). It seems the dealers just do not want to admit they made poor decisions during the recent comic "bubble" and rather deal with ignorant customers. Am I wrong?

I had plans for this Con but things came up. I went last year and had a great video moment with Jim Shooter who I always wanted to meet. Comics wise...Big Lick has some ok comics. A lot of the keys are at insaaaane prices now. I'm glad I got many before the rush collection wise hit.
You might be headed in the wrong direction. If you’re coming from WVa, I’d suggest heading to a) the monthly Shoff Promotions con in Annandale, VA b) the quarterly Shoff con in Frederick, MD or c) the Fairfax comicon in DULLES, VA. Great selection and lots of friendly dealers ready to actually deal.

I’ve only been to one comic con. Are there usually a decent amount of hardcover vendors who have omnis, deluxes etc? The one I went to had one vendor who carried those and he had some pretty good prices
Wow This is a big comic con.! AMS 50 in high grade is a dream comic and a true classic.The number of costumed visitors is amazing and the costume quality is excellent. Michael Myers was a stunner
Man, just went to this one this weekend April 15-16 in Dulles Expo VA. They called it a comic con but there were like 5 vendors. The dealers that were there were snobby. Plus they all had insanely high prices. A $50 sticker on coverless non silver age keys, what the? Enjoy your videos greatly man!
Coomic cons are a total waste of money these days. After entry fee and parking you have already spent enough to by a decent key comic. Then, you get in and less 50% of the vendors selling comoc.
First off, I would like to say sorry that you had a bad time at the ComiCon. I went on Saturday and had a great time with my son. I bought a ton of comics from several different vendors. I also got several different autographs from the artist. I think the days of vendors wanting to do trades is few and far between. Most of them just want to sell what they have, and not buy anything new. 😢. Hope you have a better experience at the next Con. 😎
What I am worried about, is afty I have paid to get there...only to find out that most of the comic book vendors are Manga, with only 2 traditional comic book seller Booths. Not interested in the Pop culture show.
Going from trading cards back to comic culture is shocking. I tried to liquidate some books at %70 of comps at an OC show recently. Everybody looked at me like I was crazy. Comic dealers “buying” signs don’t have the same meaning as card guys. I blame promoters for allowing “don’t film me” guys at their shows. People film shows now, get over yourself 😂
Love these POV videos. I get to learn a lot. Funny how different comics hobby is to sports cards. The card vendors are used to people filming and almost all buy or trade all the time.
I live in Roanoke and can back you up about Collector's Lair. It's just a shame it's so cluttered. That's why I don't go there anymore. I'm sure they have tons of keys buried but not worth the time. At the 7:13 mark you walked right pass me at Comic Con. Didn't even notice you. Hope next time to Roanoke is better. We are not all bad here.
I've known Mario for many years, quite a character. I've seen him stand on a chair and work the attendees like a carnival barker in front of his booth/table.
Hmm. Odd that someone doesn't want to do business with you after promoting the show etc. I'm going to be a vendor at my LCS's Lot Con which is in the parking lot in May. Just have a bunch of Dollar books and a few of the latest keys from 2018-2023, but nothing major. I have slabs, but those are all PC except for 1 or 2.
Honestly i would just rather Ebay (or similar) my wants. Patience is a virtue, stuff will show up if you keep an eye out. Comic cons are not what they used to be traditionally.
These videos are hilarious. Honest to God between the ego, the smells and the over priced books it’s usually not worth the gas money lol. I don’t film people personally but even still when you try to be nice and respectful, dealers still have an attitude. And I’m just walking around like why bother? Most of these 50 to 70 year old rude shop owner’s will have their collections inherited by ungrateful children, grandchildren or great grandchildren , who will in turn sell for pennies on the dollar at a garage sale anyways. I’m not even 30 yet, I can just wait. Just like that young woman in your last video who just let a whole collection walk out the door. You think that shop will last another generation once the keys are given to her or anybody else with that lackluster attitude? Nope.

They shouldn’t really be that mad something got filmed in the past… I can see why the Big Licks guy might be butthurt though. Great book but I think that was a bad trade. I never try to trade books at a convention cause they will rob you blind but if you do some digging through the comics bins you can find deals cause I got a bunch of keys cheap q few weeks ago.

It's a typical smugness that seems to spread throughout those setting up shop to sell their merchandise,some in artist alley(If could get my $40 back from the elitist ingrate Ty Templeton), and even the way-overpriced celebrities ($90 for a photo-op?! Really?!). Comic Cons are not what they used to be:Way Overpriced entry tickets,cloned merchandise booths,absent classic comic book artists & writers. A former Tampa & MegaCon attendee.
Unsolicited advice from a stranger - take it with a grain of salt. The video where you set up as a vendor - you exhibited unbridled joy and enthusiasm. The last two videos visiting shops and cons - you exhibited pain and misery. Pursue the joy, do it again - take all the negatives you find at shops and cons and do the opposite as a vendor. My experience in life is that you get the most when you give the most. The books you are banging your head against the wall looking for at shows and cons will walk in and find you when you are doing what you love and giving to the community.as a vendor. Just my two cents.
go to smaller comic cons you will find better prices and pretty much no one cares if you film. there are a ton of one day shows across america now. big comic cons are barely about comic books anymore unless they are new variants or graded keys.

its really weird that the 90s stuff is still called modern when its 30 years old and they have about as much in common with modern comics that they had in common with the silver age marvel stuff. makes no sense.
I am not saying this about everybody, but as a group we comic book collectors really need to go on diets! The dude in front of you couldn't get through the turnstile without going in sideways!
Why did the guy ask not to be filmed? A guy with a camera is like a dude with a baseball cap on these days. I wish u can post the raw video of these guys asking you to leave. Alot of peeps these days are just in it for the money.... in 1997, i graduated from high school and comics were dead.
man whats up with all the mean spirited people in the comic in community here lately. like the last 2 times i went to the old head comic shop in my town looking for a couple big books, dude just blew me off and made me super unwelcome.
Hit up the big links vendor, ask him what is the problem with you is, how the dealer community view you. Maybe don't film next time. Take time out build bridges, heal any perceived harm that may have been done. They undoubtedly see you as a threat, a new comer here to take business/trade from them. By promoting what you do on UA-cam you give rise to a whole new breed of collectors that threaten the stronghold of their market share. Thus the cool attitudes. Love what you do, but maybe less is more.

its tough to be in a comic hobby if most of the sellers are rude and greedy. One example maybe that big lick comic you have experience. I guess its different than doing a hobby on sportscards. Coz guys are more approachable and can do trade/sell easily. Comic owners are greedy most of them wants cash. And Also why most of them hates filiming or being in film like omg.. Like in any Sports card show filiming is normal to them and its part of the hobby. Anywya That's just my personal experience. Anyway still love the hobby as a collector. Cheers!~

Their justification is they have to buy the table and booth fee. It’s robbery what dealers do

go to smaller comic cons you will find better prices and pretty much no one cares if you film. there are a ton of one day shows across america now. big comic cons are barely about comic books anymore unless they are new variants or graded keys.
also less garbage and more comic books and comic dealers too
Is there someway to find a list of these small shows?
@@Stickygoose im sure if you searched your state and comic book con or comic book show or toy show something will pop up. im from indiana and there are several here. i stopped going to big comic cons because the prices are awful and the selection is usually lackluster. sorry i couldnt help you more but i have no idea where you live
@@Stickygoose roanoke valley comic con .it near the end of march.it happens twice a year.i would talk to the event organizer about filmimg first.it has nothing to do with big lick.
its really weird that the 90s stuff is still called modern when its 30 years old and they have about as much in common with modern comics that they had in common with the silver age marvel stuff. makes no sense.

Alot of peeps these days are just in it for the money.... in 1997, i graduated from high school and comics were dead.
man whats up with all the mean spirited people in the comic in community here lately. like the last 2 times i went to the old head comic shop in my town looking for a couple big books, dude just blew me off and made me super unwelcome.

Hit up the big links vendor, ask him what is the problem with you is, how the dealer community view you. Maybe don't film next time. Take time out build bridges, heal any perceived harm that may have been done. They undoubtedly see you as a threat, a new comer here to take business/trade from them. By promoting what you do on UA-cam you give rise to a whole new breed of collectors that threaten the stronghold of their market share. Thus the cool attitudes. Love what you do, but maybe less is more.

its tough to be in a comic hobby if most of the sellers are rude and greedy. One example maybe that big lick comic you have experience. I guess its different than doing a hobby on sportscards. Coz guys are more approachable and can do trade/sell easily. Comic owners are greedy most of them wants cash. And Also why most of them hates filiming or being in film like omg.. Like in any Sports card show filiming is normal to them and its part of the hobby. Anywya That's just my personal experience. Anyway still love the hobby as a collector. Cheers!~
