Fortunately you haven't lost money on your comics. You only lose money if you sell. The comics can turn around. I recommend the 90s boom bust. Those who panicked lost those who stayed level headed got great deals. I'm more of collector so when I buy comics I buy ones I really like. If they go down it is annoying because I could have bought cheaper but ultimately I would have bought regardless. The influencers aren't the problem. They are just showing the possibly of what's out there. It's up to you to decide if you like what they show or not.

There is a difference between buying what you like vs buying what you’re told you should like. Also, recommending a book or presenting it as an investment / key just so you can sell it at a higher price (and then pretending that you’re not using this tactic on your channel, or that you’re “just a collector”) is 100% disingenuous. Resentment is well deserved towards those kinds of channels as they intentionally mislead.

A ton of people left the hobby because of the comic crash which resulted in people flooding the market with comics , which in turn drove down prices further. If you appreciate the characters, or the history of how they’ve affected all of us you’ll be in the hobby for a long time. You don’t need to buy books to appreciate what it has to offer. Good video.
Your recognition that the constant flexing, both from yourself and other influencers, is ultimately unproductive, despite its ability to attract views.
I've gotten FOMO about omnibus and collected editions from watching certain channels like Near Mint Condition and Omnidog, but when I see hot books when I used to watch stuff like Comictom and Very Gary I never wanted to go out and get those comics. I kind of hate when comics get hot, even if they're ones I own, because it makes them unaffordable for true fans like myself. I do still buy a few single issues, but it's just newer stuff I don't want to trade wait for or just want to the support the creator. For the most part these days I just like collected editions because you get a lot of bang for your buck and longer stories.
Look dude. I know where you’re coming from on the influencer thing. You’re not completely wrong. I like Tom. I don’t hate him for what he’s doing. I’m also old enough to have known not to buy into the hype but sell into it during the bubble. I also tried to warn people it was a bubble while it was happening. But we don’t outlaw gambling and I’m not for regulating stupidity. However, there was a video during the bubble that made me stop watching Tom where he was talking with Golden Age Guru. And they brought up that people were saying it was all a bubble. The phrasing Guru used was something like, “so what if it’s a bubble? These people don’t need to be negative and for what? Just so if they’re right they get to say I told you so!?” No challenge from Tom whatsoever. Sounded just like a couple of crypto shills talking about FUD. I knew then and there that they were either too young to understand what they were doing or didn’t care. That’s when I pretty much completely stopped watching Tom. I’ve lived through a couple of asset bubbles and knew what to do. And I can see where people would not understand what was happening. No problems making top ten list videos and such. No worries there. But Tom heard the counterargument during the time and just dismissed it. Just cause he’s saying NOW that prices go down in his videos some time after a comic appears on the top ten doesn’t mean he was ALWAYS doing things that way. At the end of the day though, it is about personal responsibility for the people that follow him, you’re right. We shouldn’t ignore that he has a vested interest in books going up being connected to all these dealers but people have to have the wherewithal to know what’s best for them. It’s not Tom’s responsibility to do that.

No need to worry about “lost value”….comics are just for fun…nothing more in the end. Also seeking some type of validation through a UA-cam channel will only lead to anger…anger leads to hate…. Hate leads to the Dark Side.
In the end, the buyers will be the ones that fuel speculation. Sure…there are influencers that hype spec books, and some of them even sell those spec books that they hype up, but ultimately it’s those that buy into it that keep those prices moving. Plenty of people want to have that $10 comic be worth $1000 so they want to believe the speculation. They want the manipulation to pay off in the end. The same thing happens with sports cards. Breakers buy up a product, then they hype it up and sell it to the believers at a hefty markup. Consumers make all of this happen because they want to be the ones holding the winning lottery ticket.
Some of my favorite videos you do are when you visit comic shops. If a shop is junky or the employees/owners are stuck up, I think it’s great when you call it out. Same goes if it’s a good store with helpful ownership. I guess an argument against that content might be, could you do better with a comic shop? I’d say yes but…unless the overhead is dirt cheap, it’s not a good business decision, imo. My 2 cents.

Everyone knew the Covid comic boom was going to crash. Comic prices never double or triple in a year or two. Collectors willingly overpaid and sellers clearly took full advantage of the situation. To be resentful is on you.
You should try and do a colab with Free Key Loowee. You mentioned you were a fan of his on one of your videos. I could see good chemistry between you two with some thought out skits. That could be fun.
My story doesn't involve comics per se, but please allow me to explain. I had my own small UA-cam channel. Was just a hobby, I wasn't in it for money. Anyways, I've been collecting Ohtani cards since about 2019. Around that time, all the 'sports cards influencers' considered Ohtani a bust. I didn't care and kept collecting his cards. It's when his cards went up, the same influencers' got weird jealous and resentful of me. It's just how the collectibles game is. My point is I understand your take on influencers' only I was on the receiving end of resentment by people who over valued their own opinions. And the opinions of influencers they followed ect. Idk, figured I'd share my experiences for perspective.
@RonSM2112 oh, I just mean where we've gone as viewers of the channel and how Daniel's perspective has changed overtime. I'm not the moral judge of if he's changing for the "better" or "worse", we are along for the ride and I'm enjoying it.
I don't buy channel "created or promoted" comic books when said channel reaps a portion or all of the proceeds. If someone else likes their stuff & buys it that's their choice, but signed/limited/etc. will not hold any real value. It's better for that channel to just give it away, & build their channels with content, not merch. "Advising" what comics to purchase & saying they WILL increase in value is just like fools gold.
The term influencer is the issue. Anyone putting content on a social media platform has an agenda. Depending on where you stand relative to that agenda, it might affect you differently. You chose to make purchases based off what someone on UA-cam was saying in their videos; caveat emptor. These “influencers”, as their name implies, have a dual agenda. Build an audience for views, monetize their content and usually build an audience of consumers. I’ll use Mint Hunter as an example. He posts comic centric videos, that discuss interesting topics. There is no snarkiness, there is no agenda. He is making attractive content for comic nerds like me. He also sells comics on livestreams. He will sell issues he showcased in a collection video, but that’s ok. I don’t believe that he is manipulating viewers of his channel. He’s using his audience, who enjoys his content, to sell comics. I don’t pay for your time and energy making content. I watch the videos and if enough people do the same, you’ll make money. Lighten up, reevaluate and you have to have the stomach to be a villain. Leave your wife out of the channel if you don’t want asshole trolls to make comments. The internet is a cesspool and family should be protected.
Sticky......why are you doing this? Newsflash: everyone who bought comics in the 2020-22 timeframe "lost money." If that's the only thing that concerns you here, you really should hang it up. If not, then keep going, but enough with the explanation/blame videos. Let's start easy -- see those books on the wall behind you? Pick one of them and talk about why you bought it (aside from speculation) and what you love about it. I'd watch that video.
Hmmm I unsubscribed cause I felt like the content was going all towards the dork you tube influencer crap, instead of being the channel that would be a source so call out bs… as far as the comic Tom thing… you lost the battle of dorks? I guess? I dunno-dc really either. You missed the boat though covering CGC banana gate and using your platform to help thousands potentially save money, instead being distracted by comic “influencing”? This video feels like a turnaround, and I hope so. Felt real, well, this and your video cutting out the sauce man tbh helped me stay the course for some silly reason. And as far as the toxicity goes, my experience is if you don’t feed it, they trickle off themselves. Good luck, hope to be back
Your on the right track. Back in the 90s during the tech bubble I learned my lesson about hype and value when i was young and luckily didnt have much money to lose. The comic market the last few years has been a life lesson for people in much the some way and hopefully it will serve them well in the future. Dont hate pumpers, they are teaching the kids who will lose 90% buying the new hyped up book or something that already doubled in the last year and needs to correct in price.
Awesome you’re so open about things. Even reflecting and taking accountability. For our money we spend on investing, speculating and collecting we gotta take responsibility. We know our own personal finances. Cashflows. Retirement accounts and other investments so we can only make our own decisions Can’t blame an influencer or collector who is creating content I love your entertainment, analysis and your open minded ness No ones getting played.
Move forward quit talking about it and get back to making content that you want to make. Not what you think will get you views or subs created content that your passionate about. it don’t have to be about comic books try different things don’t paint your self in the corner of the room being a just a comic book niche, talking head UA-cam channel when I seen you do skit comedy before get back to basics of why you even started doing UA-cam in the first place. Maybe you need some inspiration dose it not trip you out that you can come up with a idea in your mind and then create and produce a video and then people watch what your create and it was just a thought a idea in your head a week or two ago. It trips me out when I make a new video for my channel I might not get the views you get but I sure do have fun creating producing the videos at first I was trying to do UA-cam’s for all the wrong reasons to try to make money on it but as time went buy I realize UA-cam can be a pretty cool hobby I get to bring my dumb ideas out of my head in a video I produced what a time we live in.
Very Gary almost always says to do your own due diligence and that his opinion is his opinion. Comic Tom has said many times that on some books the price is too high. Plus he’s reporting on sales that have already happened. Yes, some of those books appear on several lists so you could argue them reporting on sales, fuels more sales. In the end, it’s up to the individual on what they buy and glad you made that realization. Also, and someone else pointed this out, it’s not a loss until you sell. I have plenty of books that have gone down in price but I didn’t lose any money, yet. Prices will go back up on many key issues. Like the stock market, it’s cyclical. There are books that go up due to a movie or TV show and those books may not go back up if the movie flops or the show gets cancelled. At the end of the day, buy what you want even if at some point you overpaid. Enjoy the hobby and try not to stress.
let me tell you something the UA-camr I want to see his name is sticky goose and I subscribe for who you are don’t break your head over this and be original if you fall get up and keep going, and that’s it that’s what I want to see
Resentment should indeed be let go. Those influencers have done nothing but increase excitement for the hobby and educate people that don’t know as much about comics. I will say it’s great you came to the realization that you don’t need to follow them. Please go back to talking about comic books and move on.
I think every hobby has one of these channels in fitness there is vegan gainz very similar kind of content hating on ppl even to getting very animated with the wigs. Although he still has a message or a niche he stands by which is he passionate about vegan but I can’t really see what your niche is. All forms of content has a guy who covers the drama but until he covers the wrong person then gets backlash and can’t defend himself as even he doesn’t believe what he’s saying he’s just doing it for the views. You say you like to cover other things but it doesn’t get views who cares be yourself to 100 ppl instead of a fake to a few thousand.
I think I understand where you are coming from. The comic influencer sphere is super predatory. Almost all of these guys have whatnot shows or mystery boxes full of nonkeys and overstock. So its in their interest to hype up books to increase their sales. That is where personal responsibility comes into play. You cant blame influencers for making bad buys. You have to buy what you love and take accountability for your own actions. I really like the question you posed in a previous video about can you be a dealer and a collector. Would love to see a deep dive into those kind of ideas. Long live the goose. 🪿

If you can't stand on your own two feet...
I’d be happy to play with you buddy. Actually that kinda sounds weird. 😂
👏 👏 👏
I love watching the Sticky Goose Evolution Project. I think we can all relate in one way or another.
💯
Meh. Based on this video, I'm not sure the "devolution" is complete yet. Let me know when the evolution truly starts.
@RonSM2112 oh, I just mean where we've gone as viewers of the channel and how Daniel's perspective has changed overtime. I'm not the moral judge of if he's changing for the "better" or "worse", we are along for the ride and I'm enjoying it.
This is The Goose we want. 🤙🏼
Just be You
Does this guy sell comics? I don’t see any links to a store or anything. Just don’t understand the business
Good luck, hope to be back
I liked you better when I thought you were in on the joke.
Oh no you’re trying to do well on UA-cam. If people are mad at that they’re probably just jealous of your numbers
Cashflows. Retirement accounts and other investments so we can only make our own decisions
Can’t blame an influencer or collector who is creating content
I love your entertainment, analysis and your open minded ness
No ones getting played.
Please go back to roast & parody videos. These self reflection, therapeutic, catharsis videos? YIKES! 😢
The goose is here to shine a light on a lot of shady characters in the comic book community. I hope he stays to keep exposing them.
Ehh fuck it, im subbing.
let me tell you something the UA-camr I want to see his name is sticky goose and I subscribe for who you are don’t break your head over this and be original if you fall get up and keep going, and that’s it that’s what I want to see
Your best recent video! There's time to right the ship! 😂
Surprised you came back
No more cope videos! Make vids, move on. Some people will like some won't. Don't linger on it and have fun on the internet.
Always appreciate your perspective.
You say you like to cover other things but it doesn’t get views who cares be yourself to 100 ppl instead of a fake to a few thousand.
lol cool
Good to see you back 🪿
Glad the Goose is back!
You ARE one, so you hate who you are?
Brilliant
Hate = views, troll them relentlessly Goose, troll them relentlessly, no quarter.
this is the definition of the snake eating its own tail
Change your name to SickyGoose Magic, play Magic with MG. Comic books are becoming a one way industry
StickyDick Comics
I think I understand where you are coming from. The comic influencer sphere is super predatory. Almost all of these guys have whatnot shows or mystery boxes full of nonkeys and overstock. So its in their interest to hype up books to increase their sales.
That is where personal responsibility comes into play. You cant blame influencers for making bad buys. You have to buy what you love and take accountability for your own actions.
I really like the question you posed in a previous video about can you be a dealer and a collector. Would love to see a deep dive into those kind of ideas.
Long live the goose. 🪿
The Goose is loose 🪿 welcome back
