- Age of Empires 4 gameplay sees the introduction of the landmark mechanic to age up, but the consequence of this is that landmarks can also be focused down to achieve victory.

A yes, the ultimate Cheese strat - outproducing your opponent, outmaneuvering them and defeating them in numerous offensive and defensive battles, finally closing out the game in Imperial Age after most of the map resources are consumed at 32 minutes
lol
Hey come on, we tried to snipe his landmarks. But he had too many as a China player :(
@@AussieDrongo shit title mate
Game isn’t even released yet; “I don’t know why people don’t understand how to play the game efficiently.”
Cause the game just AGE 2 with a minor change
@@khanhnguyen-tt3ff Who says? You?
Can you show your scores and timelines at the end of the game please? It'd be nice to see the power spikes and shifts in momentum
Love seeing the graphs
Man, I cant wait for full release...And to get dominated because I've never played an rts game competitively
A good place to start would be getting gold medals in all tutorials. That's how I learned to play AoE 2 DE and if the tutorial for this game is as good, you should be able to get a good starting point out of that!
@@evil.valentine Oh yeah I'll be playing through tutorials/campaigns first for sure to get a good feel of the game.
I've played multiplayer in aoe3 but it was only against friends so none of us were really try harding.
I just hope I can maintain my motivation to play after losing a bunch
@@derkreuzritter6789 This game has a skill based MMR type ladder system, which means that unless you're absolutely terrible (much much worse than however bad you think you are) or insanely good (think pro-player level) in reality you will pretty much always win 50% of your games and lose 50% of your games. Wins and losses don't really matter once you have a decent matchmaking system in place, just play because you enjoy it.

isnt cheese supposed to be quick like game ending in first 10, 15 minutes?
Cheese sometimes takes days to build up.
@@GrooveSpaceArk A mature cheese, you might say.
not always game ending. its just a cheap and gimmiky way to get alot of value with a low effort strategy. Look at cannon rush in sc2. People still do it at the top of the ladder but then they transition into macro with a lead because its not game ending.
Is it only me or anyone else who also complains that all siege weapons (when pack) look almost identical, I am having a hard time differentiating the mangonels from the rest when they are packed.
its not a problem for me maybe you just gotta get used to it
i think only the treb and mangonel look the same when packed. they dont look the same but just very very similar
@@seandyer7937 the treb looks wayyy bigger when packed
@@seandyer7937 the treb?? O.o what? That looks way different. Maybe you meant bombard and mangonels?
Man I love seeing a man so cocky in his abilities and then sweat at the end. "God", "toying with his food" then nearly loses at the end. Humble up.
I always find these videos interesting. As I have NEVER played this game online. All the Age of Empires I ever played was for the story missons. Same with Starcraft. It never occurred to me ever that that was a thing. Or that people could even go hardcore RTS on someone. Its so cool and weird for me to see.
I just bought this game yesterday, I didn't realize they remade another one. I remember playing this 20 years ago and Mythology. We use to cheese so hard in 1v1, harrass workers while we econ. First strategy game I ever played and got me hooked.
I think the snipe would have worked if you committed to it all the way, ended up losing most of your army to pikes and arrows by just standing around and not microing
Found ya channel last week, really enjoying the AOE4 content. Looking forward to the new game, I'm not much of a online RTS player I'm too slow and like to take my time while playing.
Did you time the subscribe bell to the Town Centre Bell 0:30 Drongo? :D
You know it
“I’m going to judge your competence as a player on a game that hasn’t released yet”
Ok mister badass
Aussie love r videos man. Have u tried making a video teaching us the shortcuts, explaining why many tcs etc? itd be so great for new players tyty
I wonder what the best timing is for an outbooming strategy like this. I think you have do deal a crippling blow before 20 minutes. after 20 minutes one TC has produced 60 villagers. If they build a second TC at 7 minutes, at 20 minutes they will have produced an additional 39 villagers. So taking into account the 6 starting villagers a 2TC strategy can have 105 villagers at 20 minutes. I'm not sure at 200 pop cap you want to create many more villagers than that, so I don't think the extra TC('s) provide any advantage beyond this point.
Out of the two of you, i prefer past Drongo, he's a better gamer ;) Also, love watching this kind of stuff, i don't even intend to play the game but it's interesting learning all about the strats
Crazy how you are managing to pull out so much content even when games not launched. Really looking forward to how big your channel gets once the full game launches, which is inevitable!
Chinese berry do make 1/10 of gold with tax out of thin air, not a bad choice, it also allowed him to work the sheep vill at the mill, so with tax as well, after the officer is out, supervising the mill will grant 20% more resource when ever vil drop res on the mill.(and collect all the tax there)
you're definitively gonna be my main AoE4 youtube channel. Awesome content!
For 24 minutes: I gonna snipe, I gonna snipe!
After 24 minutes: You know I could snipe, but lets just do economy and get army killed.
and he fails ...
New to your channel but thanks for the aoe4 vids! I waited 16 years for this game!! - also love the accent haha
HAHAHAH "OMG we are in fucking berry heaven right now" that got me so hard xD xD
Go Drongo! Thanks for your hard work! I've been following your great videos since the very beginning and enjoy them so much since.
How many games did you play that one weekend? 😂🤣🤣🤣 well done, you really invested in your channel so much in just a few days.
As for the topic, I like the landmarks because it makes it more like regicide, keeps players on their toes.
How did this man get so many games in a single weekend
Loooooots of Red Bull probably...
Alot of his earlier casted games werent his - they were replays of other competitive players.
But yeah, he was probably awake for 48 hours straight too.
the weekend beta was like 3 days worth basically so i think he was playing about 12hrs/day for 3 days. Easily enough recorded content to drip out for a month.
In AOE 2 its a normal strategy to make a dark age rush, delay your opponent, make walls, then go fast castle and boom with three or four tcs. I have not seen the AOE2 pros playing the game, I think there was a tournament that weekend, but I am really interested on how they will play it, because in the end AOE 4 is much similar to AOE 2 than 3. I am sure there are many things you can extrapolate form 2 to 4.
There is funny trend among players of AoE2 to say it's close to AoE3 and among AoE3 to say it's close to AoE2.
Either way, walls seem so powerful and underused in casted games.
@@barsni4779 yes indeed, i would love to see more walls! This time they are useful
what is tcs

This is the perfect game to watch and chill!
I think landmarks are a bit too important - and vulnerable to rushes. They were way better in AOE3 where the power wasnt game-ending even if you lost a wonder.
The hard part is going to be balancing. You will always have strong rushes because thats a core style for AoE, so I wonder how they are going to compensate?
Playing with your food is a dangerous game drongo!
Quick Q: Does the Abbasid only have 2 landmarks (House of wisdom and main TC)? Would that mean if they rushed you and just hit those two buildings you would instantly lose? Seems bit unfair as the other civs have more landmarks that they can spread around to give time to put up a defence.
Yes, but the house of wisdom has very high health
House of wisdom is very hard to destroy, it has a lot of hp, 12k if i remember correctly
Yah it's pretty tanky. Sniping it is honestly very unlikely, as is landmark sniping in general unless it's very far forward ( like it's a castle landmark that shoots or something ) or your opponent's very inattentive. There shouldn't really be a case where 100+ horsemen get around into your base to 1shot buildings unless you're already losing long before that.
@@rintv3675 During stress test I used 100 cammels (melee and ranged) with 5 cannon. The cammels deal with the army and cannons mainly go for walls/ landmarks.
when doing a all in like this. Just send all workers along with the units?
Why do you right click over and over again when moving your units around? Why not just once?
It looks insane that people come from AOE2 among other things and still refuse to wall up.
The AOE 2 remake is really coming together.
Excuse me Aussie_DronGOD, but you are the one with just 2 landmarks! (Is this going to be a problem? :D :D :D)
Was scary for a moment there!
Is man ready to even ready to imagine what is on the other side of the 8tcs
Good China vs. Zerg gameplay.
Can't wait for release 😄😄😄
Only 20 days till release boys
Can Town Centers not collect berries? He built a Town Center AND a mill on the same berry patch twice. The first time you could claim a tiny improvement in travel distance, but on the berry patch near the neutral trade post in the corner, he has a TC and a mill two spaces from each other.
Mills for the Abbasids and Delhi make the berries have double the food if built near.
At 10 min: Haha he's incompetent.
At 20 min: Ok we are gonna snipe his landmarks. Just watch.
At 30 min: Snipe didn't win the game. Oh shit he's pushing back.
At 32 min: The keep won the game. All planned.
“he's incompetent”. I am not sure how competent you are either.
sloppyest match this month
Why do people not snipe each other's sheep with the scount early?
maybe it makes too small of a difference, maybe it's difficult with the town center damage, or maybe it's not worth losing your own food income
no decay in this game, it matters not. best you can do is steal their deer with prof scout
@@disc0king21 Yea but you can kill them very far away from his base.
@@ChaosRevealsOrder interesting, why do that if you could steal them instead tho
@@disc0king21 you cant steal them if they are following an enemy scout already
how do you build farms so fast?
If u buy this game avaible to play today?
Lesson learnt... never go with single type unit and never go for a snipe... :)
Well, not with horsemen after 23 minutes at least.
8TC is the new meta
That was kind of the least cheesy strategy haha. But if you run out of videos after the open beta... What can one do. Still thanks for the videos.
the man loves his clickbait titles
Beautifull graphic !
Should have called it Age of Abbasid, what with all the youtubers' civ choice!😉 Anyhoo thanks for the video, only 20 days left now.
Did you play so much that you have enough videos until release?
Yup
wait is there another stress test
GG
Are berries a fast source of food in this game? Why does he seem obsessed with them? I know in the past Age of Empires games berries were always slower than most food
Berries are still the slowest source of food and boar the fatest
I always see people putting down more then 1 TC and I never understood why, I’ve played AEO 3 for over 5 years but only recently started to play online. Can someone explain why so many tc, faster villager build?
It’s a combo of making more villagers and quasi defensiveness of Tcs warding off raids by shooting back. So kinda a 2for 1 when you build it
@@dylsvob6217 I see, thank you
is technical stress test still open or its old video?
up
It’s an old video
Golden Age tier 3 sooo epic 😍❤️🐪🐪🐪
I actually like going mill into wheelbarrow first as china because the mill generates tax gold and I don't think the TC does
Why would you collect tax gold that early though? If you invest 150 food and TC time for an official, afaik it's for the supervise ability.
@@Muenni I don't know the details because game's not out but I was thinking the best build would be to time an imp official exactly when your your tax gold reaches its max and also you have the first military production building coming down. That way you can make an official, have him collect taxes to recoup his cost immediately, and then start empowering the first military building as soon as it finishes.
Eco then Culture so damn good cheap vills then cheap techs give me a chubby
please set up videos, like the previous ones posted so that subtitles can be added and translated for non-English speakers.
wow gg
absollutely scuffed. Please give the cavalry sniping another go, havent seen it before
5:26 - 5:24 : Sheep?
why is early berries for china bad?
It's bad for everybody because it's one of the slowest food sources to gather (actually I think THE slowest, but I may be wrong). Abbasids are the exception (and iirc Delhi as well) because they collect faster from berry bushes near mills.
@@squacquerone7236 thanks, SC2 player looking forward to playing AOE4.
Comment
All that stone and you didnt build any walls sir
Red just overcommitted and lost all his army lol. Should have just defended trebs and slowly pushed at range.
Can someone explain the excessive clicking?
In competitive real time games, people click the hell out of their mouse and keyboard (hotkeys) to do more things at the "same" time.
Like leading different armies on different places while defending your economy - all (more or less) at the same time.
I believe, if you get used to it, it is hard to judge the situation and switch instantly between normal and high click rate.
So you do it all the time, even though in some occasions you basically do the same thing in 10 clicks what others do in 3. Not a problem still, as you click so fast, it isn't really taking you more time than slower and more precise clicks.
@@jerome6383 What I meant was the constant clicking to move a set of villagers to a given location. He already knows where he wants to send them, but he clicks maybe 3-4 times in quick succession in the same general area; is this a habit that has built up over playing the game as quickly as possible? I used to do this with RPG's, like Diablo, etc, but in games like AOE, there aren't always enemies around, like the villager example, so I was wondering if its a habit or there is real purpose to it and what that purpose might be.
@@icedanilzation I believe he has said before it's just a habit he picked up from another RTS
Another way to think of it is like getting pumped up for exercise. Keep your heart rate up and the adrenaline flowing. It allows one faster response time when a crisis unfolds. Like, you're ready for action.
Also, it can slightly adjust the movement path of units. Usually not too impactful, but it does alter the trajectory even after the first command.
It could be a way to see the response time. Due to ping, computer resource performance. Clicking that many times assures one that there isn't lag and that their commands will go through.
I like to think of playing rts games at high APM as like sculpting clay on a pottery wheel. You could think of the clicking as spinning the wheel faster and faster. The faster you spin it, the better your intentions can be mapped out on the project at hand.
The "technical stress test" watermark is actually testing my stress, as it is annoying as hell
hi
How can u still play this
He can't, he just has a bunch of recordings from the stress test backed up to upload.
I just found it :)
please AOE devs kill that pssssssssssh sound it's killing me
Maybe its just me, but the art style just looks kinda goofy.
You got kinda arrogant at some point. But hey: still winning.
so chinese are underwhelming?
Wow this guy is arrogant. Would have preferred the casting.
Anti-First, second and third. Love your Channel.
So Drongo's completely AoE4 now?
Probsbly because he has lots of left over videos from the stress test. I imagine it's easier/better for him atm to cater to aoe4 when the content's already recorded.
Hey mate, at the moment the short term plan is to cover AoE4 as it's new and shiny, but to eventually transition back to a balance between AoE3 and AoE4.
Would it hurt you to make a Aoe3 video?
Aoe3 sucks
Unfortunately it kinda would his views have gone up 5x and he has gained 7k subs in the past 2 weeks. I used to watch all his AOE3 casts but I am ready for all his 4 content

this game needs an eco limit
Clickbait
No blacksmith?
They should remake the early game, it's always like 15 minutes of boredom.
But only bec they played this way, usually u can get rushed at around 6 min already
Even with them taking their time it was still an action movie compared to casual AoE gameplay - I believe.
If you play aggressive, in AoE4 you might end the game in about 12 minutes.
