Thank you - I didn't use the chemical stuff but I used hot water, then 1/2 cup baking soda, then 1 cup vinegar, then 1 cup hot water - sit for couple hours then flush with hot water - still didn't work. Did the same process a 2nd time, noticed a lot of gunk come up from sink, but still sluggish. Then did 3rd time, went out of house came back 4 hours later - hot water down sink and slow drain still. I bought a small sink plunger for under $3 at Menards. I filled the sink with water, plugged the overflow hole like you did in the video and then a couple quick shots of the plunger. BAM! Water went down perfectly! Thanks - saved me an expensive plumber call!
Couldn't get anything moving until I read some of the comments below. Plugged the longish horizontal overflow with two strands of duct tape and emptied the gunk in the sink. Then used a regular plunger and the black mess all came back up into the sink, but then it drained again back to normal. Will probably take to flushing with boiling hot water on a regular basis now. Thanks for the help, but I'm glad that I was able to avoid the chemicals in the end.
Thanks very much for this. I had a blocked kitchen sink which was not responding at all to a simple plunger or to the pumping type either. I couldn't block the overflow/waste hole with my finger as it is a rectangular grid, so I used duct tape and eventually the pumping plunger worked. Needed 3 pieces of tape. Covering the overflow grid with one piece didn't work at the pressure forced water out at the top and bottom, but when I added further pieces at the top and bottom that seemed to seal it sufficiently to direct the plunging force down and clear the pipe. Thanks so much for the tip!
Ultimate handyman thx for the tip on the Power Plumber ! Stuff worked on the first burst of air on an extremely tough slow drain that’s been clogged for 2 years ! CLR makes the stuff and it’s only $10 at Menards!!
Last time I had a blocked shower, we tried almost everything which didn't resolve the problem. We then decided it was time for a plumber. He recommended we bring the pressure washer in and shove it down there. Surprisingly it actually worked, I'll have to try that power plumber next time though, seems like less hassle ;D
My mate used to work for a large housing association and he put me onto the power plumber as they used it all the time. I have used it twice and it has worked well both times! Thanks for the comment
Recently had the same issue. In the end I used Soda crystals and boiling water. I was doubtful it would work but it worked really quickly. I was really impressed. Probably a great deal cheaper than the alternatives as well.
Hi, I have used a power pressure pump similar to the one at the end of your film and it blew the trap off at the back of the basin, I must admit that it did work but I needed someone to hold the waste (push fit pipe) at the rear. Also living with two women in the house and with them both shaving their legs and hair extensions draining down the BATH plughole I tried boiling water then a tube of hair remover (Immac) left it overnight and that did the trick. Something to try if you have a few women in the family. N.
Thanks Neil, The power pump is normally good but in this instance I could not get it positioned because of the tap. I'm pretty sure it is hair that causes the blockages. The instant power chemical I used is supposed to dissolve hair etc. Thanks for the comment
Excellent video Chez! Blocked drains - ain't they a nuisance? I'm only an amateur when it comes to such things but if I might add a couple of tips to anyone else reading this? Firstly I would just say make sure all your accessible plumbing connections are nice and tight. I used a power plumber once and it was brilliant but the first time I used it, it blew the u-bend clean apart ... LOL. Secondly, if you've got a nice ceramic sink, please be careful when pouring very hot water from a kettle into it. Try to keep it down the plug hole and not on to the sink itself. I did this once and the sink cracked right across it. Hope you don't mind me mentioning these things Chez - just thought it might save someone else having similar disasters? Thanks mate!
One more tip to add to the video .Make sure that under the sink that there is no air gap or vent as some peps call it before doing this. But other than that great video and I always enjoy watching them.
Handy stuff that Chez but as you say its expensive , i keep a small compressor in the back of the van for testing new heating system piping prior to filling and i have made up a couple of adaptors for 1 1/2 and 1 1/4 waste pipes , just remove the trap and connect your adapter to the pipe and connect up your air line to it , fill the compressor tank until it cuts out and then open up the adapter vale full to give a good blast down the pipe , it clears the blockage every time.... : )) Cheers mate
Big rubber bung with a hole drilled through to fit your aircompressor blow gun, much cheaper than that power plumber stuff. It's also a great way to clear the water out of traps before maintainence, no more smelly trap water running down your arm!
I live in an apartment and the maintenance guy came and used some cord that goes in for feet and that didn't work. I guess they will call a "professional" to fix it. What could be the problem? The bathroom sink does fill up with water only after a few seconds of running water, sometimes it backs up on its own. He went to my next door neighbor and worked there, too, but it didn't solve anything. Is there anything I can do on my own instead of waiting for I don't know how long?
If my sink is blocked and nothing is working, I would normally just dismantle the pipes at the back if the sink and clear up the blockage that way. It's messy but you don't have to use expensive products or chemicals and it gets the job done.
you can see from the tme it takes for the water to back up that the blockage is further down the ppe after the trap. if the trap was blocked then the water would back up much sooner
To get one of those overfills blocked you can buy one of those wine corks that twist and expand in the mouth of the bottle. There are some that are even rated for pressure liquids so perfect for this. Or you can make one yourself: here's how. A length of rubber tube (thick walls are the best), a screw, two washers, and a fly nut. Put all that together like this, screw, washer, rubber tube, washer, nut and voila you have a plug. Then you can operate any modern sink that has a round overfill. Tho if you have really pliable rubber you could make one for oval ones as well.
With the plunger device it might be worth putting the plug in and plunging the overflow hole... I assume this would provide the pleasure needed.. Thanks for the product test..
These processes rarely work. Open the drain and use an auger and run the line inside the pipe to physically remove the obstruction. This can easily done by a person even remotely handy with basic tools bought at the nearest hardware store.
I also have an extremely clogged sink drain. I took off the pipes underneath the sink and almost the entire opening of the pipe has dirt in it. It's literally caked on the sides of the drain and even after using a screwdriver like a chisel I was having trouble removing it. Also tried Drano etc with zero results
Yes, I tried a snake once and it was totally useless. The power plumber has never let me down. But sometimes it’s just easier to remove the waste trap- ua-cam.com/video/fV70BLL0ZAk/v-deo.html
What's the best way to unblock the outside pipe that run from the bowldown the drainpipe to the drain. When you empty the bath. The water is overflowing and running dow the wall. Thanks in advance for your advice
+John McClure The pipe should not leak, it sounds like a seal is no longer sealing? You could try one of these to clear the blockage- fave.co/1mDWVoA But if there is a rodding point on the soil stack it would be worth unscrewing that and checking it is clear.
Hi. I was washing some Aquarium substrate (Moss & Coconut fibre) in my bath when the plug came out by accident, some went down the plug, now when I fill either of the double sinks I have in the kitchen the water drains very slowly & /or comes up into the bath ( I live in an appartment), as I was replacing the bath & basin anyway I removed them but for now I've had to put a 'blank' on the ends of the 'open' pipes to the bath & basin as water from the sink flows out of the basin/ bath pipe. you advise please?
Hi Mr. Handyman, can you do for a kitchen sink... As it's much tougher do to the gunk that goes thru 5he kitchen sink. I have everything, nothing works... Even undone all the tubes under the sink. The blockage is probably by the end 🔚 where the pipe exits from my flat.
this really works just uncloged my sink today. i also did the plunger thing first to loose it up a bit. then used the compressed can spray. my sink was really bad prolly worst ever. that's why i used plunger first.
the pressurized air product can do damage to plastic piping, causing glued joint seals to fail. if you have plastic pipes, better stay away from that option
Didnt wk for me but I didnt cover the plastic thing with water. Perhaps try again.... Useful to know. Some times the instructions aren't very good on these things.
My bathroom sink has been getting clogged, I have tried enzymes and the baking soda & vinegar, which was really hard because the stopper in my sink does not remove, it just goes up & down, so it was very hard to get baking soda down there. I had a plumber come and he cleaned out the pipes under the sink but still going slow, he said 'I don't know just keep putting enzymes', but obviously it's not working, it's getting more clogged all the time, the clog must be further down in my pipes? Is there anything I can do without calling a plumber again? someone mentioned using lye? Also I have heard that chemicals are very bad for the pipes and I have very old pipes so don't want to put any chemicals that would hurt the pipes.
I'm not sure if any chemicals damage the pipes, but I have used the power plumber several times after a plumber friend of mine recommended it. Thanks for the comment
SO WAIT!!!! XD you used highly corrosive draino which eats away most pipes (glaze off tile, eats away at cast iron, not to mention the silver ring of the sink... and IT STILL DIDN'T SOLVE IT?! oh my gosh! ... worth it though X'D lol
I finally got it unclogged using a Sink Stink Odor Eliminator... it worked great to unclog it but didn't remove the odor. The odor is only in the sink overflow where TONS of black/pink chunks came out. I took the ptrap apart and it smells fine, just plan water. But if you put your nose to the overflow... GAG!
One method I have used a few times is to 1) block overflow with wet washcloth or rolled up piece of sponge, 2) use wet/dry shop vac to suck up blockage. often the blockage is a direction specific wedged dam. Pulling instead of pushing can be unbelievably effective.
A few people have recommended blocking holes with duct tape/gaffer tape etc. No, this will not unblock a frozen pipe, you will need some heat to do that. Thanks for the comment
Normally a cheap plunger will unblock a toilet as it's normally just a case of getting the blockage through the toilet trap. You can plunge it using a long mop, covered with a carrier bag if you don't have a plunger.
I've got a plunger with a suction handle (not too savoury). Maybe it did do the trick, then. Is it bad to pour water down the bog when you flush away solids?? Hope you can respond.
il Solano You can pour water down the toilet no problem at all, but you have to be careful doing this if the toilet is blocked as it can overflow if you pour lots down. If your flushing mechanism ever breaks you can wash away the contents of the pan using a bucket of water- ua-cam.com/video/SizSKJfuXCs/v-deo.html
Is there a way of testing a waste pipe for leaks other than running water through it? I have an under warranty house built by Barratts and my tenant blocked a basin waste a bit. That caused the leak on the ceiling below and they are blaming the leaking waste pipe on the blockage in the bottle, it apparently created pressure that caused the pipes to expand!. I can't imagine that being possible unless the pipes have not been sealed properly somewhere. They have refused to check the problem and I am worried that there's a shoddy pipe work on all the pipes that I will not discover till it's too late. :(
Also to remove the blockage I unscrewed the bottle and removed all the female hair, no plunger or any acid could have been used as I would have only caused more of a leak.
I think you can only test such pipes using water. I guess you could install a bung and use some low pressure air, but you have to be really careful using air as it compressible and could cause an explosion (this is why water is used for pressure testing). It sounds to me like the builders have bodged the install (very common on some new homes). Best of luck with it ;-)
Ultimate Handyman, thank you, know about the air but how would I know if it leaks with air anyway. I think I will put a blockage in the bottle again and see if it leaks. One of the problems is that when they fitted the sink it was on the floor and they did not fit any flooring as the only one available was vinyl. So tiles are fitted around the leg that covers the pipes and it's difficult to get to. Frigging nightmare.
There is a nozzle you can buy that goes on the end of your hose that is meant for unclogging drains and it works better than anything I've ever seen. It has a balloon around the nozzle that inflates when you turn on the water and seals the pipe completely. The clog blows out really fast and the pressurized water cleans the pipe out and makes sure the clog goes all the way out of the drains.
I have an idea, for the pump plunger put your own over flow hole attachment on the tube with a string to reach hole a piece of rubber to fit, then your good. By Huck R.
Most of the time with sink drains, hair get wrapped around the lever that lowers the plug. Anything else requires the ptrap removed and a drain snake. Drain cleaners will only temporary clear the drain.
Nice job , in fairness once youve put the drain solution down / baking soda / salt with the hot water , theres no need for the power plumber , a normal plunger at that stage would have done the trick with abit of perseverance and saved you 15 quid
There's nothing more annoying than a blocked drain that wants to stay that way.Gunk will always adhere to the side walls over time .Some remedies use a nozzle attached to a power washer to clean the pipes.Never tried it myself.Maybe regular chemical treatment might be the solution for difficult problems.A good stomach is essential for that job.Good Lord save us from blocked drains !!!
is it good design but I don't think I will be using it pressure like that could loosen the pipes under the floorboards and then you've got a bigger problem better to do baking soda and vinegar like somebody else in the comments suggested
I like to find a root of the blockage with problem basins/sinks. normally it's pipe flow angle too high or too little. Sometimes its the wrong type of trap. Rather than use too many chemicals or use high pressure jet type devices which can possibly blow seals, I like getting down and dirty and cleaning the trap out. 😃
I'm not sure what the problem is with this drain set up as all the pipework is hidden, but there is something not right with it. I'll find out when I redo the bathroom! Thanks for the comment
Where is this trap?? My kitchen sink keeps getting clogged and ive tried everything...the pipes near by are clear ....so I assume it has to be something much deeper into the pipes..
One way I do it is go under the sink, undo the pee trap, use forceps and take any of the clog out of the sink and put it into a bucket. It’s probably dirt or hair down there that’s causing it to drain really slowly.
Thanks, I made this video for people that are afraid of undoing the trap and used some solutions which clearly do not work. Next I'm trying bicarb and vinegar. Thanks for the comment
Thats not unplugged, you just made a small hole through the toothpaste and hair, take the ptrap off and snake it for real results. Also idk what type off pipe you have in Europe i think pvc, but here in canada the draino eats the glue on the abs pipes
Kitchen sink water was draining really slowly, so I unscrewed the Trap (U-pipe). There was some sludge there, so I cleaned it all out and screwed the Trap back in thinking "job done." But immediately after, the problem became 10 times worse. The water hardly drains at all now! HELP!!!!
@@ultimatehandyman - Thanks for replying. No, I don't have one of those vacuums. But I did buy a regular plunger. Have 'plunged' many times and the blockage can momentarily improve 'a little' but then goes back to the same again.
I've usually found the best results using caustic soda. I've had to clear the showers at home (wife and 3 girls with long hair) so often - I've bought the solid (small pellets) NaOH and make my own. Use 200g of the sodium hydroxide in a litre of water = 20% caustic soda that'll shift almost anything. I've bought 5kg of the NaOH online - should last me for years! Btw - gloves, goggles and mask for this!
My kitchen sink keeps getting blocked. I have plunged it, used hot water, buster crystals and nothing is working. When the water drains out the washing machine the water comes up through the hole in the kitchen sink and overflows up and over the work surface.😭🙁. Water also not draining when washing the dishes. I have to run into the garden and release a value in pipe which then releases a torrent of water and that's how I empty the sink every time it fills with any backed up water. Ive need told not to use a plunger as it could dislodge something. So will drain opener and power plunger of 15 bursts work? Don't want to dislodge something with the latter.🥴
You have to be careful with the power plumber, as it is really powerful. I tried it on a blocked sink a few weeks back (it was really badly blocked). The high pressure did not shift the blockage, but caused the water and debris in the drain to be propelled about 15 feet in the air! Thanks for the comment
How to save a lot of time and money: 1) Go under the sink 2) Unscrew syphone cap 3) Take the dirt out by hand and flush it down the toilet Since the first drain cleaner worked somewhat and the tubes didn't fill up very long, the problem was probably there. And you can do it without any chemicals, any pressurized air or anything.
+Krisztián Szirtes This video was made to demonstrate what works and what does not work ;-) Not everybody is confident at removing the waste trap, which is why I made this video. How to remove a waste trap is here- ua-cam.com/video/fV70BLL0ZAk/v-deo.html Also the blockage in this sink is not in the trap, as I have removed it several times to clear it and each time it does nothing. Thanks for the comment ;-)
Hi ultimate handyman i have a problem with my pipeline....its vertical going down from the first floor of the house down to the ground floor...the problem is its blocked some where in between i don't know where...and its flooding the house when it blocked. The pipe is made of metal...and i try to use snake to clear it but not working...i tried chemical also not working...the problem is the pipe is not directly vertical because it connected to one bathroom..and the toilet..so before joining up there is a horizontal joint. that problem cause this problem why i cannot clear the blockage.. Do you have any decent advise how to fix it...i need it as my house is flooding from the first floor.
+Meiji Jap What diameter is the pipe (approximately). It sounds like a soil pipe, which is about 4 inches wide in the UK. Normally these pipes have covers that can be unscrewed known as rodding points, where you can use a set of drain rods to clear the blockage.
Hi +Ultimate Handyman the pipe diameter is about 2.36 inches (6 cm). Today i take of the plywood ceiling cover just to find out that the angle (elbow) joint is severely damaged by rust..and in fact broken apart....it has been over 30 years without service :(... 4.bp.blogspot.com/-WQ8DXTjTVgs/Vjyog-o8-II/AAAAAAAAHO8/fCe9CGNpYck/s1600/20151105_132956.jpg 2.bp.blogspot.com/-UjOkrOZnSi0/VjyohYPdx2I/AAAAAAAAHPE/-f9vAtlAdI8/s1600/20151105_135754.jpg So today we cut it off using a grinder..and it was tough as the pipe lean against the wall the grinder blade wasn't able to cut it off at once...and we have to use hand metal saw to finish the job...do you have any advice for a perfect tool to cut a cylinder using grinder without using something else? so that the future is not repeat like we did...it's so troublesome taking 2 hours to cut the metal pipe...it was tough and thick metal pipe.. Secondly we use PVC to replace the cut of pieces and now we are having another trouble..the joint is not position perfectly aligned and that still cause a leak and i am delaying the job for another tomorrow or another day when i have time....The problem is when we place the vertical pipe and the joint we didn't notice it was higher than the horizontal pipe as a result it becomes uneven. (Vertical higher than horizontal) and it leaks it between the gap caused by the unevenness of the pipe....please advise what is the best way to align the pipe to make vertical and horizontal perfectly aligned on the elbow joint. 2.bp.blogspot.com/-vT4qGXvDRLA/VjywTx_X7II/AAAAAAAAHQA/qZ6hJNFW9og/s1600/20151106_212351.jpg 3.bp.blogspot.com/-_Rkz-PW8sQU/VjywTpHG-_I/AAAAAAAAHP4/BuuiuPw_kQQ/s1600/20151106_212420.jpg Thirdly i am going to remove them and redo it once again...why is a good tool to remove the cylinder pipe from the joints? Still another day of tedious and probable difficult work ahead for me :)...i am begin to enjoy the challenges though
+Meiji Jap We don't use such pipes in the UK for domestic plumbing, but I have installed similar pipes in factories for compressed air/steam. Cutting pipes in confined spaces close to walls is very difficult using a grinder. A reciprocating saw with metal cutting blade would be easier as you can cut completely through the pipe from one side, providing it is secure. ua-cam.com/video/pyf5ZORNIEA/v-deo.html Instead of using PVC sockets to join the pipes can you not use flexible pipe couplings similar to these- fave.co/1OxY9xN Obviously you would have to get the correct size, but these should work even though the pipework is not exactly aligned?
Thank you so much the reciprocating saw is definitely good to know although i couldn't afford :) the pipe coupling is really look the easiest to install...never cross my mind this kind of thing ever exist :)..perfect stuff Yes the pipe not exactly align the vertical one is higher than the horizontal...not sure how to make it perfectly align is there any tools to do that
+Meiji Jap You are welcome. When we install pipes on site we use a spirit level to get them completely straight and level, but for waste pipes they normally require a fall, so that the waste water can gently run along the pipe, until it reaches a vertical drop. You can still use a spirit level for pipes with a fall by attaching a shim to the end of the level. I think I showed how to do that in this video some years back- ua-cam.com/video/kVsSswu6g7o/v-deo.html But it's difficult to get a fall with rigid pipes if you are using off the shelf elbows (bends) etc. as they are all bent to specific angles.
Snaked the pipe and ran a garden hose. Water came out the vent pipe on the roof? Suggestions? Yes, already used chemicals as well. Not looking to bust out the wall just yet. Open to suggestions.
Used boiling water on two different blocked drains and it worked well. Just let it drain overnight down to the blockage. I prefer to avoid using chemicals if possible.
I have a better and much safer idea than you do UH. In fact, I use it in my own drains... Crush up some cheap denture tablets and dump them down the drain. Then, chase with boiling water (but just a little as this will foam up). Use it once a month every month... great on bathtub and sink drains, as well as, whitening toilet bowl!
For me it tends to work when my sink drains very slowly or is slightly blocked. If it's fully blocked, I use a plunger (if you can move the tap at least) which works every time.
Based on the fact that even opened the sink doesn't drain all that fast, I guess that the real problem is a bit further down the road. We had the same issue and it became a bit better after using airgun, but started backing up again in a week. Real problem was that there was a pile of s**t in the inspection well, it completely covered the pipe coming from the house. Eventually it plugged so tightly that the waste water rose from the basement drain. That pile dissolved using garden hose in a couple of minutes.
It's a weird drain on this basin. There is a round shaped piece of plastic with holes in it which activates the plug in the basin and this seems to be the cause of the problems. If yo clean your teeth or shave in the basin the residue seems to hang around where this plastic part is, which then starts the blocking process. I have started flushing the basin every day now by filling it completely with clean cold water, which seems to be improving it. I'm not sure how the bathroom has been plumbed but something is not quite right as the shower often glugs when water is let out of the basin. When I get time I will rip it all out and fit new ;-) Thanks for the comment
Drum wire cleaner with a small cutter and power drill usually does a good job of clearing 25 feet of lines (pipes) though prevention is cheaper with a hair trap over the plug. My G/F gives me the same grief with the Hoover brush bar and hair! lol
That is very unusual. If you can get to it outside, I would check it is not full of insects or see if someone has pushed something down the pipe. You might be able to unblock it using a straight piece of wire, like from a metal coat hanger.
Sorry, I didn't realise this comment was on the sink unblocking video, I just answer all my comments on the comment page and assumed the overflow was a toilet overflow. I've never seen a waste fitting for a basin without a hole for the overflow, if I was you I would get him back as there is either a problem with the waste fitting or the basin itself.

BTW, you stick 2" white tape over the overflow hole. Simples

Thanks for the comment ;-)
I might try the compressor next time.
Big rubber bung with a hole drilled through to fit your aircompressor blow gun, much cheaper than that power plumber stuff. It's also a great way to clear the water out of traps before maintainence, no more smelly trap water running down your arm!
Thanks, I might give the compressor a go next time ;-)

Even though I bought it for £22 from B&Q which is very expensive,it worked liked magic 👍🏼

You could try the power plumber, it has always worked for me!
Thanks for the comment
Cut the bottom off a plastic bottle and use as a funnel when pouring in hot water.
Saves possible cracking of sink. elsie
Thanks for the comment 👍🏼
If my sink is blocked and nothing is working, I would normally just dismantle the pipes at the back if the sink and clear up the blockage that way. It's messy but you don't have to use expensive products or chemicals and it gets the job done.
you can see from the tme it takes for the water to back up that the blockage is further down the ppe after the trap. if the trap was blocked then the water would back up much sooner
I can't even get that to work. I stick the snake all the way in (snake is 5ft) but somehow it's still magically blocked
That's brilliant, Thanks for the comment ;-)
***** Happy to pass along the knowledge.
With the plunger device it might be worth putting the plug in and plunging the overflow hole... I assume this would provide the pleasure needed..

These processes rarely work. Open the drain and use an auger and run the line inside the pipe to physically remove the obstruction. This can easily done by a person even remotely handy with basic tools bought at the nearest hardware store.
You dont need 3 hands in the last clip, just cover it with duck tape?
It used to be known as Duct Tape, but so many people called it 'duck' tape that the makers gave up and called it Duck Tape themselves !!!
Blimey, I've never seen one so badly blocked!

Just seal the overflow? Chemical sink unblocker leftover with Power plunger help me out.
Mr. Muscle gel sink unblocker is the proper stuff. Never had a case it didn't work on.

Can you put duct tape over the hole? Dry area first to tape.
Yes, you can do that ;-)

Would the power plumber work better than a plumber’s snake ?
I gave the snake a go, 30 minutes still no luck.
Yes, I tried a snake once and it was totally useless. The power plumber has never let me down.
But sometimes it’s just easier to remove the waste trap- ua-cam.com/video/fV70BLL0ZAk/v-deo.html
I use packing tape to cover the overflow and it seems to work well if you layer it.

What's the best way to unblock the outside pipe that run from the bowldown the drainpipe to the drain. When you empty the bath. The water is overflowing and running dow the wall. Thanks in advance for your advice

The pipe should not leak, it sounds like a seal is no longer sealing?
You could try one of these to clear the blockage- fave.co/1mDWVoA
But if there is a rodding point on the soil stack it would be worth unscrewing that and checking it is clear.

Thanks for the comment ;-)
SO how do you do this with a double kitchen sink? I suppose someone should hold down the lug in the second sink??
Yes, or put something over it. A couple of people have suggested using duct tape on the overflow holes.

the pressurized air product can do damage to plastic piping, causing glued joint seals to fail. if you have plastic pipes, better stay away from that option

Kettle trick plus plunger worked, thanks
Didnt wk for me but I didnt cover the plastic thing with water. Perhaps try again.... Useful to know. Some times the instructions aren't very good on these things.
It needs to be covered with water for it to work properly. A plumber friend of mine swears by this and uses it all the time.
Thanks for the comment
MInes defied all attempts so far.
We shall see.
Your going to tell me I need a plumber. Well the last one just stood and looked at it.
Hi Handyman,
Can the "Power Plumber" be used for bathtub drains that have been blocked due to coffee grounds? Thanks for your help

SO WAIT!!!! XD you used highly corrosive draino which eats away most pipes (glaze off tile, eats away at cast iron, not to mention the silver ring of the sink... and IT STILL DIDN'T SOLVE IT?! oh my gosh! ... worth it though X'D lol

My overflow is super clogged and STINKS!!!! If you used this but didn't cover the overflow drain would it help to unclog the overflow drain?
You could put the plug in and push this over the overflow hole?
I finally got it unclogged using a Sink Stink Odor Eliminator... it worked great to unclog it but didn't remove the odor. The odor is only in the sink overflow where TONS of black/pink chunks came out. I took the ptrap apart and it smells fine, just plan water. But if you put your nose to the overflow... GAG!
Hi !My drain is blocked by wax melts. And water is not even draining slowly. It is completely blocked.Any advice?
I'm afraid you might have to remove the trap to unblock it- ua-cam.com/video/fV70BLL0ZAk/v-deo.html
Thanks for the comment
One method I have used a few times is to 1) block overflow with wet washcloth or rolled up piece of sponge, 2) use wet/dry shop vac to suck up blockage. often the blockage is a direction specific wedged dam. Pulling instead of pushing can be unbelievably effective.
Thanks, I might try that next time ;-)
Thanks for the comment
I just did this and it solved the problem

theirs holes on the side of my sink how would you block them holes as well as the overflow also will not unblock a frozen pipe like i found out
A few people have recommended blocking holes with duct tape/gaffer tape etc.
No, this will not unblock a frozen pipe, you will need some heat to do that.

Any similar products for blocked lavvies that have weak flushes, Sir?
Wouldnt it rupture the water pipe where the water goes?
No, it would be very difficult to rupture the pipe unless it was blocked solid with glue etc.

Frigging nightmare.
you can also use a hose with high pressure that would work it's what i did to unblock my drain outside
+all4dh8rz
Thanks for the comment ;-)
Good idea. I used hydrogen peroxide, boiling hot water, and lastly the high pressure can. It worked beautifully.
By Huck R.
Thanks for the comment
Most of the time with sink drains, hair get wrapped around the lever that lowers the plug. Anything else requires the ptrap removed and a drain snake. Drain cleaners will only temporary clear the drain.
Thanks for the comment
Nice job , in fairness once youve put the drain solution down / baking soda / salt with the hot water , theres no need for the power plumber , a normal plunger at that stage would have done the trick with abit of perseverance and saved you 15 quid
Thanks for the comment
Informative. Thanks

How about the shower basin, I have slow drains, how to solve it then...Thanks!
A blast unblocker, like the Rothenberger Ropump will work well on a shower, or you can buy a cheaper make. They are widely available on ebay etc.
***** Thanks man ;-)
There's nothing more annoying than a blocked drain that wants to stay that way.Gunk will always adhere to the side walls over time .Some remedies use a nozzle attached to a power washer to clean the pipes.Never tried it myself.Maybe regular chemical treatment might be the solution for difficult problems.A good stomach is essential for that job.Good Lord save us from blocked drains !!!
Thanks for the comment ;-)
is it good design but I don't think I will be using it pressure like that could loosen the pipes under the floorboards and then you've got a bigger problem better to do baking soda and vinegar like somebody else in the comments suggested
I'll try baking soda and vinegar next time ;-)
I like to find a root of the blockage with problem basins/sinks. normally it's pipe flow angle too high or too little.
Duct Tape the overflow
HELP!!!!
If you have a wet and dry vacuum, you could try sucking out some of the blockage- that sometimes works.
Thanks for the comment 👍
@@ultimatehandyman - Thanks for replying. No, I don't have one of those vacuums. But I did buy a regular plunger. Have 'plunged' many times and the blockage can momentarily improve 'a little' but then goes back to the same again.
Does this work for kitchen sink too?
Yes, no problem
No. You have to buy a whole new house.
Thanks for the tip ;-)
@@ultimatehandyman Thank you for the tip and for replying🙂
Just use Mr muscle. It actually does work...
It might work in some instances.

Might the boiling water crack the sink?'
Yes, which is why you have to ensure it only goes down the drain part.
Thanks for the comment
Where Can I purchase the power plumber in the US
I'm not sure, sorry.
and i think its black sluge that has dried for years and years and turned hard but i am not sure about that that is my guess on what it is
I’ve been trying to find this after watching the video but it looks like it’s been discontinued as I can’t find it anywhere 😕
They seem to have changed the name of it.
Now it is called Express drain cleaner- amzn.to/3R5YOdo
How to save a lot of time and money:
1) Go under the sink
2) Unscrew syphone cap
3) Take the dirt out by hand and flush it down the toilet
Since the first drain cleaner worked somewhat and the tubes didn't fill up very long, the problem was probably there. And you can do it without any chemicals, any pressurized air or anything.
+Krisztián Szirtes
This video was made to demonstrate what works and what does not work ;-)
Not everybody is confident at removing the waste trap, which is why I made this video. How to remove a waste trap is here- ua-cam.com/video/fV70BLL0ZAk/v-deo.html
Also the blockage in this sink is not in the trap, as I have removed it several times to clear it and each time it does nothing.

+Meiji Jap
What diameter is the pipe (approximately).

Still another day of tedious and probable difficult work ahead for me :)...i am begin to enjoy the challenges though
+Meiji Jap
We don't use such pipes in the UK for domestic plumbing, but I have installed similar pipes in factories for compressed air/steam.
Cutting pipes in confined spaces close to walls is very difficult using a grinder. A reciprocating saw with metal cutting blade would be easier as you can cut completely through the pipe from one side, providing it is secure. ua-cam.com/video/pyf5ZORNIEA/v-deo.html
Instead of using PVC sockets to join the pipes can you not use flexible pipe couplings similar to these- fave.co/1OxY9xN
Obviously you would have to get the correct size, but these should work even though the pipework is not exactly aligned?
Thank you so much the reciprocating saw is definitely good to know although i couldn't afford :)
the pipe coupling is really look the easiest to install...never cross my mind this kind of thing ever exist :)..perfect stuff
Yes the pipe not exactly align the vertical one is higher than the horizontal...not sure how to make it perfectly align is there any tools to do that
+Meiji Jap
You are welcome.
I think I showed how to do that in this video some years back- ua-cam.com/video/kVsSswu6g7o/v-deo.html
But it's difficult to get a fall with rigid pipes if you are using off the shelf elbows (bends) etc. as they are all bent to specific angles.

B&Q normally stocks it- www.diy.com/departments/power-plumber-instant-drain-clearer-can-150-ml/190549_BQ.prd

"Ladies and golfers!" AWESOME!!!
Snaked the pipe and ran a garden hose. Water came out the vent pipe on the roof? Suggestions? Yes, already used chemicals as well. Not looking to bust out the wall just yet. Open to suggestions.
@@johnd-jwear6590 Hey John, did you ever get it fixed? Sounds like the main drain needed frogging.
Used boiling water on two different blocked drains and it worked well. Just let it drain overnight down to the blockage. I prefer to avoid using chemicals if possible.
using boiling water and baking powder or vinegar and baking soda works as well.
I have a better and much safer idea than you do UH. In fact, I use it
in my own drains... Crush up some cheap denture tablets and dump them
down the drain. Then, chase with boiling water (but just a little as
this will foam up). Use it once a month every month... great on bathtub
and sink drains, as well as, whitening toilet bowl!
Unfortunately, the baking soda, vinegar method DOES NOT work for me at all :(
For me it tends to work when my sink drains very slowly or is slightly blocked. If it's fully blocked, I use a plunger (if you can move the tap at least) which works every time.
Suction cap worked, with over-flow hole blocked.
Thanks
Thanks for the comment
Ever try a power snake? They will clean your line.
I have a long flexible unblocking rod, but that was the last resort (if the other stuff did not work)
Thanks for the comment
When I get time I will rip it all out and fit new ;-)
Thanks for the comment
***** I'd be interested to know what you find out. Have a similar issue here with a basin and bath tub.

slow draining tubs?
Apparently you can use bicarbonate of soda and vinegar, although I have never tried it yet.
Drum wire cleaner with a small cutter and power drill usually does a good job of clearing 25 feet of lines (pipes) though prevention is cheaper with a hair trap over the plug. My G/F gives me the same grief with the Hoover brush bar and hair! lol
LOL, Thanks for the comment
Vinegar poured in then baking soda works a treat. 😄
wayne burgess I'll try that sometime.
Thanks for the comment ;-)
I tried that twice and didn't work ... l think l will try the video instructions
My over flow is blocked, what can I use for that?
That is very unusual.
If you can get to it outside, I would check it is not full of insects or see if someone has pushed something down the pipe.
You might be able to unblock it using a straight piece of wire, like from a metal coat hanger.
Ultimate Handyman I had a new Pop Up plug fitted last week. It looks like the plumber fitted one without a overflow hole !
Cheers dude
