2 amazing Black men, Chris Rock deserved a standing ovation. Regardless of whatever medical condition anyone had a comedian performing his art is performing. Jada is the devil Denzel warned him about. I understand his trauma but she's taken red table too far without regard for his feelings. There's a difference between being vulnerable and craving attention Regardless of the cost. She craves attention and thinks that he just had to deal with the fall out.

Anyone knows that statement was most likely written by his publicist. It’s so disingenuous to apologize to the ACTUAL victim after the dust settles. He felt like he needed to defend his family when they were in no imminent danger yet it was a joke that cut like a knife to him!
I’ve admired Will’s journey because it felt like watching a big bro achieve the impossible however his behavior was utterly disgusting.
The rage on his face during that tirade was almost demonic😳like he was possessed! He’s saving face for fear of being banned from the Academy or losing his Oscar… or both! Will is like that family member or person you know who pretends it’s all good when it’s really a shit show. I wish he’d find inner peace and leave what seems to be a tumultuous situation that’s left him in this sunken place. He has the talent, money, fame, recognition and family but he looks like a broken man… and Chris just happened to be on the receiving end of that rage!

I haven't sorted out precisely why I feel this way, but I can report that Smith's assault was painful to me as a Black man.
    - Perhaps it's because it's the kind of behavior I would never engage in.
    - Maybe it's the fact that being Black includes an involuntary commitment to a lifelong experience of violence. Now and historically. In word and deed.
    - Or, because I love Chris Rock; he's brought us sorely needed laughs. He's a genius comedian and was just doing his job.
    - I hate bullies.
    - It was intended to humiliate and embarrass a good man.
    - That the attack was doing so out of ego-infused thuggery -- and as anyone who has spent time in a Black community or watched a music video knows, those are traits that are helping to weigh down Black people.
    So, what about solutions?
There are none. We can only slow the disease's progression. Violent adult children are here to stay, especially in a community that has been maimed by racism and slavery.
We can only appeal to the "talented tenth" among Black people -- the successful, influential and important people, I ask: Refrain from standing in front of cameras and opining that Smith was justified. You compound the problem.
Given its legacy of racism, the Academy is not the entity that will redress Smith's assault. They won't, and for that we should at least respect their consistency. The police won’t do anything, with or without Chris’s involvement.
    Who then?
It's us. We're the adults who police and reinforce civilized behavior. Either we speak out against Black-on-Black crime, or we choose to be part of it.
And to be clear, life did not imitate art, as Smith mentioned in his speech. In fact, he owes the Williams family an apology. Richard Williams was not a thug. He was a committed father and man of God who dreamed and worked “big.” He was disrespected by the tennis aristocracy but he fervently believed in his daughters. The comparison of Richard William’s life to Smith’s thuggish behavior is offensive.

Real move in silence. We control the room, the room doesn’t control us…. I thought he was a decent guy who took pride and accepted he wasn’t gangster but this showed what people assumed. He’s a dork. He responded like the people who snap and do random violent acts. If you’re okay with this you’re okay with the kids who shoot because they were bullied. They shouldn’t do long prison time because they felt like Will. Jada is an emotional bully and Will succumbed.
Everyone forgets this happens all of the time on award shows. Michael J Fox has MS and comedians joked about his shaking. He even joked about it later. There’s likely more. No excuse for this behaviour. If Will felt this way he would have done a Denzel move and said something man to man. A 50 something year old man…🙄

The code of conduct the academy has in place is there for a reason. There are consequences when deliberate actions are made. This was clearly an assault, and the academy should suspend him. This ongoing bad behavior in America that goes unpunished is nonsense! The academy should not be pressured to rule otherwise for fear of retaliation from the black community. The fact that his mother does not condone his actions speaks volumes. Children watched the event. They should not be made to believe that violence is the answer when resolving a conflict.

Will is a hypocrite. His speech was BS. He took no responsibility and blamed everything and everyone but himself. His apology via Instagram was cowardly. Anyone could have written that in his name. He needs to be the big man than he seems to think he is and offer an apology that is unscripted and where everyone can see his lips moving. I wasn't a big fan of his movies because of his bravado, but I am truly disgusted. Don't even want to look at his fakeness. He needs to get help and do something about that whining, toxic and attention seeking wife of his. Sorry to say, but his kids need help too. This is what power and a sense of entitlement gets you. Oh and this is Karma baby. He joked and made Aunt Viv on the Fresh Prince of Bel Aire a living hell, ultimately getting her fired. Chris Rock's joke was harmless, especially in light of the fact he had no idea Jada suffered from Alopecia. Most people including myself had no idea either. She's not that big of a name for most of America to follow or care about. The Smith family need to get over themselves and work on themselves. People want the say Chris handle it like a "G" but he was the one kick it off.
If he had not said that, Will wouldn't have smack his ass. I'm not saying Will was right, I think those two had or have beefs against one another.
I think Will Smith is more embarrassed than Chris Rock, but now Chris is going to think twice now before he attack someone. He attack Jada in 2016 so this was some ways personal.
And what people are talking about is that he was laughing. Was that really a laugh? We have to understand that these are actors. Will Smith laugh probably wasn't even real. But to you and I it seems very real.
In Hollywood like Will Smith said, sometime you have to laugh things off with a smile because of the abuse you have to take.
I don't think that was abuse. I believe that this was personal and both are responsible. I feel that great comedians like Richard Pryor didn't have to attack people in the crowd.

Chris Rock is a professional and handled it the best way at that moment. I on the other hand would've reacted in the moment and fought Will (bad decision). Instincts kick in and you either fight or flight, but extreme self control allows you to respond like Chris Rock did. I applaud his courage and control. I can only hope and aspire to be so professional. He is to be lauded!!!

After Chris got smacked he could have been cursing inside with anger because it happened in front millions of people. Chris Rock gave himself that smack.
I think the reason why the Academy have these comedians host the Oscars to relieve pressure and Will Smith didn't take it that well

Chris and Will are two of our beloved, well respected legends man. Chris doesn't bother any body. Wonderful Comedian, that will go down in history as one of the greatest.I was having mixed reactions, when the slap happened, because, once will saw Jada's expression afterwards. He lost his cool, at a time we're he was receiving his greatest accolade for one of his great accomplishments. He was a husband protecting his beloved. But to see it go down like that, was heartbreaking. It could've been handled privately, by two man talking this out. My hats off to Chris for the way he handled the situation.

Totally agree 💯 Chris earned his stripes from that and this strike! He handled himself better than most Black Men that would've being violated and snuck on like that! Will missed the pivotal moment to address his actions towards Chris and secondly the triumphant moment regarding receiving his first Oscar for a documentary of two of the First Black Stellar Tennis Sisters in history! And Furthermore in honor of their Fathers Life and Legacy! Although I thought the joke was in poor taste... It was also disrespectful towards Jada specifically and for all alopecia sufferers. I also understand Will wanting to protect his wife from the pain of the insulting joke.... But Nigh? He had NO rights or justification in this moment to slap another fellow man. Period! It hurt my heart to see all of it regarding all of them and especially seeing the pain in the Williams Sisters eyes in that moment. AGAIN? Will missed the BIGGEST opportunity in that moment and that was to show and prove... He's a decent man despite our faults in any moment. That "LOVE" he spoke on? He should've known that Love would heal them through, past, and beyond that moment and he could've corrected Chris in a whole nother manner of speaking, speech via the platform he had that night proving he's a class act instead of clowning! Very disappointed! The rest is Human Nature! Ijs... #ChrisRocks 4sho
