Some lovely stuff here, I'm from Northern Ireland and was in Spain Denia/Gandia for 60 days end of last year, fell in love with life again after major depression, been learning Spanish todos los dias este año and I've booked a one way flight to Alicante for March 19th. Not sure if I'm staying permanently but the quality of life in Spain is AMAZING compared to this gray country, looking into private health insurance and bank accounts now!

In the new EU passport control will be by computer, as part of True Citizen Act.
Place of birth on passport will determine if a person can live and work in EU.
In the event person was not born in EU in compliance with True Citizen Act, they will not be able to live or work in EU.
I’m afraid I’m going to need to see the proof of that on an official document before I believe it. I don’t think what you’re talking about is legal in EU law or in any individual country’s law. It would make a mockery of citizenship. As an Irish citizen born in the UK I was granted citizenship of Ireland which gives me the full protection that Ireland grants all those who hold the passport. There’s no way that the EU could undermine that.
Just opened a "key" account in Sabadell with passport and a proof of address from Ireland. As long as you can get a hold of them to get the appointment, you should be good

Thank you for the info . Was wondering could you look at doing a video on the financial requirements that must be met as Irish citizen to remain in Spain, with wife , kids etc . Job no job , retired on pension as a couple .

HI! Great videos! very informative. Congrats on your Irish citizenship. I myself am an English resident who now has dual passport (Irish). And I'm planning on moving to Spain in the winter. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I've lived in Spain before Brexit so i have an NIE and social security number already. And from what I'm learning.. They will still be valid even if travel on an Irish passport?

Your NIE will still be on the system, but you should investigate the Certificado de Concordancia which you need in order to change your nationality on the system. Upsticks can help you with that.

Thanks Steve. Best thing to do is set up as self employed before you do your residency application, that way you’ll be covered for health insurance.

If you’re not resident in Spain and not spending more than 183 days there in a calendar year then you’ll continue paying tax in Ireland
We as Irish pensioners with Irish passports I came to Gran Canary on the 7th of October 2022 with the intension of staying until the 4th of April 2023 , someone told me incorrectly that I had to leave and come back again. We did leave on the 27th of December 2022 and returned on the 6th of January 2023 . I tried to register at the Police Station having completed the ex 18 form and paid the tax for my wife and I at an A.T.M.. of 2 x12 euro. We went to the Police Station to register . The Police officer saw the Irish Passport and waved us away saying we didn't need to do anything. I tried to explain that we need NIE numbers because we were coming back again later on in June this year for 12 months .He again waved us away saying do it when you come back . I would have preferred to get it done there and then but didn't want to make a fuss. So were do we stand now. As I'm in the Country until the 4th of April am I within the regulations to be in the country. Should I just go and register when I return in June . I am a bit worried about my current status so I would really appreciate a reply. Regards and thank you Daniel. P.S.. I will pass about how good you utube information is.
Hi Donal, just register when you come back in June. If you told the police you were leaving in April they were right not to register you right now. Your status is you’re EU citizens on holiday at the moment. Enjoy your holiday.
I will be singing your praises everywhere I get the the chance to, you are a great educator . I have never come across anyone who has made learning so easy and so much fun. That's the problem with most other sources that try to explain things is that ,they go in circles and cause more confusion by not being clear about who the regulations apply to. Hello, I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction. My parents have UK and Canadian citizenship. But my mum's mum is born is Spain and still lives there. It looks like my mum should be able to get Spanish citizenship easily without needing to live there first. But, I can't find much more info than that. Do you have any good resources on becoming a citizen through option? They want to retire in europe, but without becoming spanish residents for tax purposes. Maybe
I need to do some research on this to be certain, it looks like she needs to live there for a year first but don’t quote me on that just yet. You can get citizenship too I believe.

If you’re sending packages I’d use a courier and find one that has an office near where you live. As a business using them regularly you should speak to them and get a better rate. Ask the local businesses who they use.
Hi I am Irish and planning on moving to Spain for a year or two next year. I work remotely for an Irish company, how would tax work with working for an Irish company while living in Spain? I have heard about the digital nomad visa but that seems to only apply to non EU citizens.
Hi, you’re right you don’t need the digital nomad visa, you’d carry on being taxed in Ireland but you’d declare your earnings in Spain. There’s a double tax treaty so you wouldn’t pay for the same amount twice, but if your Spain allowances are lower and/or tax rates higher, you’d end up paying a little tax on the difference.
@@youtoospain Sorry if this a stupid question, would I still have my income paid into my Irish bank account and fill in tax form in Spain at the end of the year declaring Irish earnings and pay the difference? Or would I need to setup a Spanish bank account have my salary be paid into that account, as I would have to register to be a resident since I would be there for a year or more and then fill in a tax form at the end of the year? Apologies I'm currently not well versed with Tax related things.
@@LauraBMusic it’s a good idea to have a Spanish account certainly, and it’s a must for paying Spanish tax, but I would still keep the Irish account and get paid into it to begin with.
I’d set up an account with a broker to have money transferred regularly from Ireland to Spain, you can fix a good rate that way and you won’t get less Euros if the rate goes down.

Quick Question....is there a bank in Spain that doesn't have quarterly charges?
That’s something I’m investigating myself at the moment. There are certainly some kinds of account that don’t have charges. But as far as I can tell, there are conditions. For example you need to take other services like insurance with them, or have more than a certain amount going in and out every month.
I’ll be more sure when I actually get there.
My husband is an Irish passport holder and I have UK passport. My husband will unlikely work but I will work (either for my existing company or be self employed). Is this difficult for me since I am not the actual Irish passport holder in the relationship?

You’ll be able to access your old NIE Numbers when you register for residency again. Cheaper areas are inland or around Murcia that I know of. Are you of pensionable age? Hi Joanne. Having children with your partner and such a long term relationship is enough proof to treat you the same as a married couple, so they’ll be able to piggyback their residency on yours.

Q1. My partner is an electrician and wants to know should he go down the sole trader or incorporated route, what are the differences tax wise?
Q2. Does he have to charge VAT on all works or is it like the UK in that you don’t have to charge until you hit a certain threshold?
Q3. What other taxes/costs are to be taken into consideration? Helps to know this when putting business plan together.
Q4. We’ve heard that the autonomo contributions are changing from a fixed rate to a % of earnings rate which seems much more fair - but is this just a rumour or actually in the pipeline?

- if I have a Uk based Ltd Co. 2 directors, one in UK snd me being in Spain (eventually!) how does the following work :
1) the company pays tax
2) how I pay tax or receive my salary If I am on the UK payroll?
3) how would the whole set up work visa-wise? (Hoping a remote visa might be created over the next couple of years like in Portugal and done other EU countries)
We have a property business (Serviced Accommodation) so it’s not something that can be moved to Spain.

Yes, regardless of your passport, if you’re entitled to the S1 it gives you access to state healthcare
Hi, I have an offer letter, European passport. OLD NIE (expired) and social security number. An established local bank account with sufficient pesos :)... But no rental contract. Can I use the address of my school? I have an appointment for residency.
The NIE is a number that shouldn’t be expired, make sure you give them the number at your appointment. It depends on which area you are in, but the majority require a long term address. This school, are you working there?
yes I WILL be but they want some update proof I am legal . I know the NIE never expires but the CARD has and so has my residence, as I moved away. I will be subletting soon but not yet. What if I just put the schools address

Moving to Galicia from USA in august. Irish citizen Irish passport holder. I have taken early US retirement (and option here at 62 years). I will be living on US social security retirement. What is the monthly income requirement for residency and can I transfer US government health coverage (Medicare/Medicaid) to Spain.
I have some Irish retirement money due but I believe that docent kick in till 66.

Hi Peter, thanks for your questions. For EU passport holders like yourself the minimum monthly requirement (IPREM) is €564.90 in 2021. It goes up a little each year but you can Google‘Spain IPREM’ towards the end of this year to find out 2022 amount. Irish retirement age I believe is 67.
I’m not an expert in health coverage so I’d advise to check with your local Spanish embassy about Medicare. I know that in some countries like the UK it’s possible to transfer coverage but I’ve not heard of it from the US. I think you may have to have private insurance for the first year of your residency, then you could pay into Spain’s SNS which is their public health system. That costs €60/month up to 65 years old.

You’d get it at the foreigners office at the police station.
The certificate of concordance is the document that certifies, once you have obtained Spanish nationality and your DNI, that you are exactly the same person who previously had a NIE and residence card as a foreigner.

Yes Gary. Your mum being from the island of Ireland makes you an Irish citizen so you can apply for an Irish passport.

Yes you should apply to be on the Foreign Births Register as soon as possible because it could take 7-8 months to get the certificate then another 2 to get your passport. Your dad just needs to apply for the passport so his process is quicker.

I’m uncertain about this. To get disability in Spain I believe you need to have lived here for 5 years. Check with Age In Spain for confirmation

Interesting question. Do you have residencia under the Withdrawal Agreement? If so, you already have all of the rights of an EU citizen (in Spain at least). If you got residency under a Non Lucrative Visa you can easily switch at the end of the term of the visa to EU resident. It's the same process as in this video.

@@mohammedkazem122 like I just said, you need to ask the Irish consulate whether it’s possible. You may need a visa. Your Spanish residency card doesn’t give you the right to move to another EU country.

As far as I know IPREM is the same for the whole of Spain.
SPAIN IPREM 2021:
1st Person 4 x IPREM per annum Eu 27,115.20
(Eu 569.40 per week)
1st Dependant 1 x IPREM per annum Eu 6,778.80
Per couple per annum Eu 33,894.00
(Those are the NLV figures, sorry, but it tells you the IPREM)

Can You pay to be part of the Spanish health system per month?
You can if you’re self employed by paying Social Security payments, or you can pay under the Convenio Especial under certain circumstances

If you were born in Northern Ireland you can claim an Irish passport so yes you certainly do qualify, and as an EU citizen you don’t need the same amount of money as non EU citizens to live in Spain.
