My cousin's daughter works in the Irish passport office and she told me that they've hugely increased the number of staff to process applications. I live in Dublin and applied online to renew my passport. I filled out the form on a Wednesday evening and received it in the mail on the Friday morning. The FBR are very helpful, I got my good news last week and now am awaiting for my certificate with a view to get my Irish Passport...I am eternally grateful to my Granparents who were Irish immigrants that came to the UK for work with pennies in their pocket.
Please don’t be under the misapprehension that just because you personally hold Irish citizenship that your English wife and children will also automatically hold that citizenship. They won’t. They will still be U.K. subjects, with all that entails for their immigration status in Spain. You will be able to travel freely into and out of the 27 countries that hold EU membership (there are some very minor variations in the immigration and entry laws from country to country in the EU but not enough to affect you as an Irish citizen) and live and work freely in those nations. But your family won’t have these same privileges. Unless of course they and you, apply for Family Reunification Status in whatever EU member nation you migrate to. Even then, that’s not certain to be granted to your family, depending on your family’s personal circumstances. And even if it is granted, it only applies in the country that it is granted in. There is no further privilege of Free Movement into other EU member nations automatically granted with Family Reunification Status. Your family members will still hold their U.K. passports with an a Immigration Stamp therein showing clearly that they hold Family Reunification Status for a defined period of time. The only country in the EU that your family has automatic Free Movement into, out of, around and can remain in freely is Ireland and that’s only because of the historic Common Travel Area protocols that were agreed between the U.K. and Ireland and first introduced and implemented in 1925.

And a final provision that very few people are aware of is that even full EU citizens can be excluded from another EU nation if that other Nation feels that it is appropriate based upon local public policy.
The freedom of movement afforded by the Irish passport applies only to the holder of that document, not to any family members. Also, Irish citizenship is not then available automatically to children so these need to be carefully considered before embarking along this route thinking it's all plain sailing. Healthcare is another big ticket item once you have made the move. NHS cover is no longer an option other than for visitors in an emergency (EHIC cards).
If your parent was born in Ireland, you do not need to go on the foreign birth register as you already are an Irish citizen. Just apply for a passport. Get the documents together. If you're relying on grandparents, then you need to use the register. On the negative side, perhaps we need to change our laws to block plastic paddies, who are simply finding out they are Irish all of a sudden, with no real loyalty to the state.

If your a Grand child you have to apply for citizenship that's why it takes so long for Nick, if your parents are Irish and your born outside Ireland you are automatically a citizen and its 8 to 10 weeks at the moment for Irish passport. Though Spain has fabulous winter weather over UK gloomy winter, it is dead and soulless with little to do in winter, if working its like anywhere else ,Just my opinion thousands love the life, I too love Spain but don't fully cut your ties with UK if you have to sell up after 10 years you wont get much for your money if you have to come back to Uk Rent for a year no matter how hard it is dont sell your home till you know its for you if it is go for it David points out the picture in the background it's fabulous but missing the most important thing,people and thats Spain in winter.Thankfully Spring is nearly here in UK, Loved my time there in December, back there in two weeks again

Our experience: firstly, we asked a head teacher to witness the various documents, which cost nothing; secondly, I obtained only the documents I needed (grandfather’s birth certificate, mother’s birth and marriage certificate and my birth and marriage certificate); thirdly, we handed in everything to the Spanish Consulate in Edinburgh, who checked everything and provided us with a receipt and fourthly, we paid an additional £18 (from memory) for a fast track passport, which you can do in Scotland by visiting a post office in Glasgow and received our passport within ten days. So, in my opinion no need to engage a professional. Hope this is helpful.

I have both British and Irish citizenship. Recently i renewed my Irish passport and it took about 12 days from online completion to receiving my physical passport. I also ordered the EU card that is optional but *it* only lasts for 5 years not ten years like the passport . So, does this mean that i could come work and stay in Spain or anywhere else in Europe or is it only some places in Europe ?
Only countries which are members of EU - not every European country is but Spain is. It probably has residency requirements though such as obtaining a residence card and registering for taxes etc. I don’t know what you mean by EU card - are you talking about the health card?
The same people who, in the past, were happy to make racist comments about Ireland and the Irish are now scrambling to find an Irish granny so they can apply for an Irish Passport. I feel my country's passport is simply a passport of convenience for people who have no loyalty or roots in Ireland, or indeed who have never even lived there. In Italy you have to live in the country for a certain amount of time before you can qualify for a passport even if your parents or grandparents were born there. We need to tighten up the rules here in Ireland and I'm going to push our government to do just that.

Most Brits who come to live in Ireland become more Irish than the Irish themselves. However this British passport only gives the holder the status of ‘ British Subject’ not ‘ British Citizen ‘ A British Subject does not have an automatic right to reside in the U.K. and this permission has to be granted the holder.

Those of Irish birth who hold British Subject passports ( not British Citizen passports) have to be given a stamp stating that the holder has the right of abode in the U.K. Both British and Irish citizens are indeed entitled to enter and live in both countries under the Common Travel Area HOWEVER if you are presenting yourself as a BRITISH SUBJECT at an Immigration Point then you are NOT presenting yourself as either a British Citizen or an Irish Citizen. It is rare that an immigration officer will come across a British Subject passport and in many cases many not notice it is such as it looks exactly the same as a British passport except it will state British Subject instead of British Citizen on the bio data page. It will also have a stamp on one of the internal pages giving the right of abode.

Yes, because Ireland isn't in Schengen and Irish citizen moving to Spain should be able to support themselves, either with money in the bank, pension or investments etc. or a job in Spain. But no one will check, after six month continuous residency in Spain an Irish citizen should register and pay tax either in Spain, Ireland or another country with a reciprocal tax arrangement with Spain. Perhaps you will recall that France deported Romanian citizens, because they could not support themselves (it was a bit racist, because the deported were all Roma). Irish citizens are free to travel and work in any EU state, but because Ireland is not in Schengen they are technically required to be able to support themselves, whereas French citizens, for instance, do not have the requirement that they can support themselves when moving to another Schengen country. As I said this is a technical rather than practical issue. I do know about this technicality, I am a retired Irish civil servant who was seconded to the European Commission in Brussels for 10 years, working on just these issues.

It was certainly never experienced by any Irish people arriving and settling in the country and there were many. I just got my Irish passport. More freedom. No long queues at the airport anymore. BTW death certificates don’t work. I sent my fathers death certificate, I needed to send his birth certificate. I missed being born in Ireland by 1 week. Shame.

The Republic of Ireland regard anyone born on the island of Ireland (i.e. including NI) as being Irish. So yes, if you or a parent were born in NI, you can apply for an Irish passport. Alternatively if you have a grandparent born in NI you must first apply to be put on the FBR, then, if accepted, you can apply for your passport.
In the New EU, bio data of person and both parents, born in EU also both parents. Passport control will be automated. This will end immigration, had the people from former EU state been made aware, Brexit may not have taken place. Thank you for supporting the New EU.

Ridiculous that people are able to obtain Irish citizenship so easily, especially when it comes to grandparents, most countries cut off entitlement once the first generation is born externally.
Probably out of luck unless your parent registered themselves on the Irish Foreign Birth Register (and hence became an Irish citizen) *before* you were born.

The True Born Citizen Act changes everything, a person has to be born in EU with both parents born in EU to live and work.

Any one born in Ireland before 1922 (before independence from the UK) is considered to be a citizen of Eire.

Irish citizens are free to travel and work in any EU state, but because Ireland is not in Schengen they are technically required to be able to support themselves, whereas French citizens, for instance, do not have the requirement that they can support themselves when moving to another Schengen country. As I said this is a technical rather than practical issue. I do know about this technicality, I am a retired Irish civil servant who was seconded to the European Commission in Brussels for 10 years, working on just these issues.
@@LeoSavantt I worked in Paris for nine years and was active in the Irish community there, and never once encountered this or anything even resembling it. It was certainly never experienced by any Irish people arriving and settling in the country and there were many. It is completely misleading to be disseminating such data that has no application on the ground. If, as you claim, it is a mere technicality then why even mention it and confuse people? Very disappointing to learn you are Irish and doing this.
@@helenaville5939 As I pointed out the French government deported Romanian citizens, they could do this because Romania is not, like Ireland, in Schengen. There is a real issue here. An Irish, Romanian, Cypriot or Bulgarian citizen without the means to support themselves has no automatic right to settle in another EU country. The person asked this question "My question is are there any financial requirements needed to move to spain", and yes there are, so I answered their question honestly and accurately. I was attempting to genuinely answer the question so as to help them. I find it odd that you are criticizing me for providing accurate information. Are you suggesting that I should have been deliberately misleading and or that I should have deliberately lied?

I just got my Irish passport. More freedom. No long queues at the airport anymore. BTW death certificates don’t work. I sent my fathers death certificate, I needed to send his birth certificate. I missed being born in Ireland by 1 week. Shame.

After 90 days apply for residency or leave before 90 days and return. Go over the border for a day or two.
What about N Irish?
The Republic of Ireland regard anyone born on the island of Ireland (i.e. including NI) as being Irish. So yes, if you or a parent were born in NI, you can apply for an Irish passport. Alternatively if you have a grandparent born in NI you must first apply to be put on the FBR, then, if accepted, you can apply for your passport.
In the New EU, bio data of person and both parents, born in EU also both parents. Passport control will be automated.
This will end immigration, had the people from former EU state been made aware, Brexit may not have taken place. Thank you for supporting the New EU.

Ridiculous that people are able to obtain Irish citizenship so easily, especially when it comes to grandparents, most countries cut off entitlement once the first generation is born externally.

Probably out of luck unless your parent registered themselves on the Irish Foreign Birth Register (and hence became an Irish citizen) *before* you were born.
To get an Irish passport they should have to do a test in Irish... that should weed out the brexiters 😂
