    The most helpful tip I've received about quick chord changing so far: Starting by playing the 1st chord on two or three counts, and use the remaining one or two counts to change the chord, and work up from there. Thank you so much! I've just improved in just about 8 minutes :-).

    • @RainStickland
      @RainStickland 4 роки тому +1

      You should try looking for commonalities with every chord change. It can make a huge difference. I write my own music and use a lot of weird chords I have to look up the names for, but it really helps when you have a common finger placement between chords, or anchor as he calls it. You can zip through a whole bunch of chords and everyone thinks you're a genius or something.

    Apart from repition and muscle memory. I feel like adding in that part of the tempo and building that up was very effective for me. I only know basic music theory but dont have formal training in playing guitar. So i just add exercises that i feel like help me the most and these are one of those exercises i will be adding to my routine to learn to play. Thanks. Everyone should do this.
    Also, if anyone can't seem to build up the speed at all or feel like their arms and wrist strain a lot then you might just have to bring your guitar onto your left leg (and if youre a left handed player then do the opposite). Im like 6 foot with kinda long arms and noticed I feel very cramped when I played the guitar on my right leg so making that adjustment really freed up my arms and made me feel more mobile. The point is to be relaxed and not lock yourself up when playing. After the adjustments I made I felt like i was able to reach the notes without straining my wrist as much and I could build up a better tempo and just play better, overall i felt more confident and less frustrated, it really is all in the wrist!

    Good advise as ever. I use the analogy of how you change gear in a car. Initially hitting a chord on just the FIRST beat. Then: 2 Clutch, 3 Move, 4 In Gear, 1 Clutch out. Then with practice Strum on 1 & 3.... then working to reduce this timing using the half beats. WORKS FOR ME. But Obviously doesn´t work with 10 year olds =)

    I have a question about the finger nobody talks about. The thumb! My thumb is inconsistent. Sometimes it wants to plant itself on the back of the neck and other times I find myself gripping the neck in my palm while my thumb hangs over it. The overhanging thumb comes in handy for muting the low strings for C and D chord for example. Should I always plant it? Could you do a thumb video? I feel like theres a lot to talk about with it.
    I noticed when I try to change chords quickly, I end up palming the neck for chords I normally wouldn't palm. Dunno if that's something I should avoid.

I must get past that last tiny bit of "ka-chunk" or any gaps, dead strings, noise, or tiny bits of slop sound.
