🎨 Using Reference Pictures in my Sketchbook 🖍️

- A great sketchbook idea for beginners or anyone trying to get creative in your sketchbook. I'm using Caran d'Ache Neocolor II water soluble wax pastels to draw and paint using reference pictures. Sketch along with me as I complete a few pages in my Moleskine sketchbook.
I had a lot of fun with this and I hope you enjoy watching the full process.

Love the cacti. A good drawing over all. ❤🇦🇺
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it! 😊👍
Your horse is beautiful. I’m glad you did the sky light blue. Makes me want to saddle the horse and ride.
Thanks! I’m glad you liked it! 😊👍
It came together beautifully
Thank you so much! It was a lot of fun! 😊👍
Wow. Thank you. It was good to see you rescuing the 'ruined' picture and turning into something amazing.
You’re welcome! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! 😊👍
Great idea! I’ve never thought about rubbing the brush on the watercolor crayon. You have a great ability to take an idea to the next level, Heather. Awesome! 🤩 😊
Thanks! It’s a really useful tip! I’m glad I stopped to show it in this video. 😊👍
I’m watching right now and you said sorry for going silent for awhile…. It’s perfectly fine! We are all watching you anyways and you don’t have to speak constantly. I enjoy listening to you, love your voice and watching you work. No need to apologize for anything! Other than a little less hand talking in the intro, you are doing a fantastic job all around and encouraging us to relax and just pick up whatever and draw. You bet I’m a subscriber!! 🥰
Thank you so much! When I get in the art flow zone I almost forget that I’m filming. It feels like I’m being rude or boring. 😅 Thanks for the feedback! ❤️😊👍
@@artbyheather …. I didn’t realize comment reply’s were here, now that I know I’ll look for any responses I might get. It is hard for you to concentrate and work especially with just 2 minutes! You just go ahead and be quiet whenever you want, like I said we can see what you’re doing. If that isn’t enough, it’s not your fault. I look forward to each of your videos especially these 2 minute ones. They’re just plain fun!
I just love your way of loose scribbling around and how you let the development give it a flow. I loved the color-combination for the horse, as you said, there is a lot of purple and the you picked peach for the white part of the horse, it is so amazing how it came out. Because of you I put all my Neocolor II out and there now ready for scribbling, too. Thank you for all your inspiring videos especially for letting the perfectionist go and enjoying the process.
Thank you so much! It’s so important to keep going and not get discouraged by imperfections. I’m glad I could help give you the inspiration to get scribbly with those Neocolors! 😊👍
C'est fait, encore merci 🖌️🖌️🖌️
You’re very welcome! 😊👍
That horse is gorgeous!! 🐴🥰 They can be so tricky!! 👍 Thank you for showing how to fix a horse gone wrong with the Neocolor II!! 😍🤗 It looks so cool with the cactus! 🌵
You’re very welcome! Horses are definitely not easy to draw/paint. I’m glad I was able to show the full process to correct mistakes. Glad you enjoyed it! 😊👍
I love all your choices for showing us multiple focal points. I only wish your videos came out more frequently in the week.
Thanks so much! If I was faster at editing, that might be a possibility. 😊👍
Thank you so much ❤️💕🥰
You’re very welcome! Thank you for the great suggestion! ❤️😊👍
You did a fantastic job "rescuing" that horse! A great lesson in how to work with happy little accidents. The scene in the end looks terrific. I love the color scheme! And you're right: a blue sky was the right choice.
Thanks you so much! I’m glad I was able to show the full process! 😊👍
I love this! The horse reminds me of the roaming herds of wild horses around New Mexico. Seeing a horse near a cactus doesn't seem odd to me at all!
Thanks so much! I’ve never been to that part of the states. I bet that is a beautiful sight to see! 😊👍
HORSE! 😂
I love seeing horse(s) painted. There’s something about them that is special. This page turned out really good.
Thanks for sharing, and as always, seems like you’re having so much fun.
Hoooorrse! 🤣
Thanks! They are just beautiful animals. 🥰👍
Beautiful picture love it🥰
Thanks! I’m so glad you liked it! ❤️😊👍
LOVE your videos! You always make them so interesting!! Listening to you placing the cactus was so cute lol
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoy them! I have a lot of fun making these videos, so it’s always great to hear when people like watching them! 😊👍
Very nice!! I think you are right about the sky, love it🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks! I’m so glad you liked it! ❤️😊👍
Wow, that’s amazing you can sketch so quickly! I’m practicing, hopefully my drawing will come out looking like something recognizable! 🙌🏻😳
It takes me longer than it looks in the video, but I have definitely gotten quicker at sketching over the past 3 years. It takes time and practice, but you’ll get there! Thanks for sketching with me! I bet your drawing turned out better than you think! 😊👍
Wow I love this😄I’m not that good but this would be great for on holiday, limited supplies
Definitely! I love that idea! 😊👍
I tried the horse. It was ok. Then I was trying the cactus you had, but instead I had the start of a stream. That was fun. I really like the look of the Caran d’ache neocolor ll. After I’ve drawn a bit more..
A stream is a great idea! Thanks for drawing with me! I feel the same about the Neocolors. The more you work with them and layer, the better it looks! I’ve noticed that they look better on smooth paper too. I’m glad you enjoy using them! 😊👍
That was so awesome!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it! 😊👍
Very nice! Those beautiful colors. I Like your videos. Thanks
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoy them! ❤️😊👍
Love your sketches/channel.
I wonder if there are any more encouraging words we could use instead of “messed it up” etc for younger people watching or newcomers, just so that they don’t “think” if it isn’t perfect, it’s trash
Thanks so much! I know what you mean. I think it’s more about how you say it. Making a mess is a lot of fun and I wish there were a better way to express it as a positive. It might be “loosen it up” or “abstract it”, but I’m terrible with things like that. I can’t even call multiple cactus, “cacti”. 😅 I think my brain won’t allow it! Thanks for watching! 😊👍
This is fantastic, I need the neocolor set ☺☺
Thanks so much! They are an amazing art supply! I’m glad I gave them a try! 😊👍
Amazing! ❤
Thanks so much! 😊👍
always waiting for your videos, the only one ever🇨🇭👋🏻
Wow!! Thank you so much! You’ve just made my day! ❤️😊👍
@@artbyheather that's great! 😍
I spent three days on my horse... but then I used Neocolors II then gouache... green for the horse was not a good choice xD I love how you deviated from the background from the photo! 🥰 I'm still working on ignoring things in the photograph when drawing/painting and do what I want to do.
It takes time. There is definitely an evolution process to learning how to draw or paint. That’s something no one really teaches because I think it has to happen on its own. You’re doing great! I’m sure the green horse isn’t as bad as you think. ❤️😊👍
Amazing!!
Thank you! 😊👍
Curious question? It wasn't a time sketch. How come you didn't see if you could erase the color pencil line on the horse picture? Some colored and watercolor pencils let you erase mistakes with an eraser. 🙂
Great question! Honestly, I’ve never thought to try erasing with the Neocolor IIs. I’ll have to give it a try and see what happens. I think it might just smudge the color, because the texture is more like a wax crayon than a pencil. It’s definitely worth a try! I’ll let you know if it works out. 😊👍
