As a Scout alumni this is incredible. I marched 7 shows at Rockford and have only respect for the the Phantom Regiment, its alumni, marching members and fans.
What an honor it is to have had them play "Never Walk" with our current members and a big "thank you" to whoever recorded and posted this.
One suggestion however. Make the solo into a duet, perhaps having the soloists trade off bars for the first two motifs and then join in a harmonized finale. That would look and sound AMAZING.....YNA!

To this day I still cannot get thru our song (either singing or listening) without crying. My journey to and with Scouts in 1999 was a great challenge that MYNWA means so much more than just some notes played or words sung. It is my Life. Thanks for sharing this............MYNWA, 1999 rook-out

I was at the show. This was a powerful moment and a beautiful sentiment. Two great Midwest corps that both had fantastic performances. You could tell that there was mutual respect between the horn lines. Thanks PR for a great show!

We did this song when I was in the McNeese St. U. marching band in the fall of 1980. Our version had a tremendous crescendo towards the end that would take your hat off! Ahh, the memories. 🎼🎺🎵🎶

Indeed, that was the purpose of it in the beginning anyway...Drum Corps an activity to UNITY, not to separate :)

Incredible! Thank you so much Phantom Regiment for honoring the Madison Scouts on their 75th anniversary. Very classy. MYNWA.

Literally my two favorite corps. Madison wi, and Rockford Ill. Are so close to each other these two really should do more together even though they compete throughout the year. Phantoms cannon warm up is amazing, yes a warm up takes my breath away. The power of a well tuned melodic horn section that is anchored by heavy bass chases the breath out of my lungs.

These things can never happen enough. We always need reminders that DCI is so much more than competition. It's community.

SCV used to do this with us, in the day, sometimes... what i wouldn't give for a non-camcorder recording, so you could hear this with the added beef of Phantom's low brass.....
now somebody just let the DM hold out the focal notes as long as they deserve to be, and you have perfection. :)

As solid as this is, it's too bad that Madison stopped using the arrangement of "YNWA" that they used in the early '80s -- it had so much more natural flow and drama than the current one, and really brought out the "French horn" sound of the mellophones.
To hear today's technically-aggressive groups play with that kind of grown-up musical refinement again would be a thrill.

You don't understand how conducting works. If he listens to the corps, it will slow down. The sound you are hearing has already happened. He is perfect.

Having just listened to the time 6 corps play this at the same time, I gotta say G bugles were a lot more powerful but these horns blend many times better

  • @TylerMcComb18

the hornline plays with the drum major, but the sound does not get to the audience until after the down beat happens... duh.

Umm, you do know that sound travels more slowly than light, right?... this timing "lag" is a by-product (and way of life) of creating music across a football field's depth.
