Spearfishing New Zealand's beautiful Aldermen Islands with my mate Stu. We encounter amazing water clarity with 30m vis in places and get stuck into some good fish including Snapper, Boarfish, and Yellowtail Kingfish.
Thumbs up if you enjoyed that!

NZ is a dream
Your doing well Ollie....slowly climbing up the UA-cam ladder.
Cheers Peter Glad more people are enjoying watching the vids and hopefully getting into the sport!
Excellent shots on the snapper and king fish! That top down shot on the snapper was great. Love your chill attitude dealing with various situations and the important information you share with us. Thanks, Ollie!
Cheers mate! Glad you are enjoying the vids!
Mate great videos but WEAR life jackets in the small boat especially heading off-shore like the Aldermans. I have been out there on a premo day and had it cut up rough really quickly.
wetsuits float
@@russellpurdie agree but look at the opening shots didn’t look like they were wearing their wetsuits.
@@kiwiAdventure100 fair enough
Bugga about the loses.. something very special to both of you gone and Stu was on when he said time to go.
Still a mean day out with Viz and result's like that though 👌💯😎

Cheers Shrek! Cool spot where that Snapper was for sure.
Atahua Brotha what a day
*EPIC*
This was such great footage, what an amazing adventure.
Cheers!
Thanks!
Let's go ! New boat adventures!!!!! Would be super keen to see how the boat goes with 3/4 speros on it for the size limits - happy to be one of the extras if you need 😉
Cheers Thomas! I've had 3 on a replica boat and it went well. Will have to do that again on a mission and perhaps with 4.. Not worried about power etc just gets a bit cramped
Hi Ollie, awesome video’s! If you use a roller-gun, you ad a Rob Allen belt-reel to your belt for those muzzle raps with big fish on. Cheeper than loosing your gun. Shoot-line has to be super tight to prevent raps, and use silicone spray on your rubbers and rollers after dive
nice dive,,safe dive always
A NEW ONE THANKS OLLIE GRUMPY
Love the new boat man you deserve it 👏 🙌
Cheers bro
Hi Ollie,
Stunning video as usual, and cheers from a French subscriber 💪
I'm always amazed to see how much marine life there is in NZ, truly spectacular.
I'm travelling to Australia for the first time in a couple of weeks, and I'll try spearfishing there.
What would be your advice for someone who's an experienced diver, but never had an encounter with a shark? I have to say that bumping into one while in the water is really concerning to me, but when I see your videos, I feel like I might be overthinking this 😅
Anyways, thanks for the amazing videos, and keep up the good work.
Virgile
Hey mate cheers. Time in the water will help the fear of sharks as you get used to reading their behaviour. It's a bit different here in NZ vs Australia however as we mostly only have to deal with Bronze whaler wharks which arent too bad. Australia is another story depending on where you dive but dont let it put you off. Cannot live in fear, just et stuck in and be sensible and prepared
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit thanks a lot, Ollie ! All the best to you
You doing great bro, have been following up your video's and really great to see to exploring great places for spear fishing,,,i love spear fishing a lot as well as i have been diving around in my country(Vanuatu). You should try come and made some spear diving in Vanuatu.
Cheers Tom! Flick me a message on Instagram I'd love to explore some of Vanuatu!
I really need to find a job in NZ.. All this awesome scenery keeps fueling that moving dream.
NZ relies on tourist to come work in cafe, bars, retail etc come work
I can't believe how hard it is to find a Snapper! The standard fish at the fish monger is Snapper, maybe they hang around in huge schools out deep and rarely come in to shore??
Nice vid
Choice mission. Fond memories of that place as a kid
Awesome brother
Panui is such fun
Love your vids also
Chur too much brothers!!! RESPECT
i absolutely love this place ollie, i stay at whitt and go with the epic boys, always a great sight those islands in the distance! fucking best place on earth!
I have been watching you for a while and surprise how clean the water is is is every year thing or just. A good. Day
Jiri Brisbwne
Would love to be your boat driver bro .. awesome videos bro appreciate it .
Thank you
Nice Yellowtail! What happened to the boarfish? Looked like you had it in hand. Tax man? Nice roller you have there. Not sure how many shafts you have bent up on the larger fish, but I always use a slip tip on my bluewater guns. No leverage for the fish to fight against, and almost never get a bent shaft as a result.
What was the mission over like on the boat bro ? How’d you sus the sea out to know she be a good ride out and back in?
Ollie you've said you like shooting line as opposed to mono. Why exactly is that? And would mono keep you away from getting muzzle wrapped? I've always used mono here in California and Baja. Thought I'd look into shooting line
Awesome footage, what camera are you using?
Hey bro love your content, what is that little espresso pump you have and where’d you get it from?
Hey mate, It's a Wacaco Nanospresso
Is that agua mala floating around? The clear jellies?
Chur olllie. Chur to the koha for creating space
Shoutout to Davy Dupav the man to go check out the Aldys with !
I love your boat . By the way, how many minutes can you hold your breath?
Thanks for another awesome vid mate. Please, you need to start wearing a life jacket when you don't have the wet suit on, even though you may be comfortable without it you're getting a larger following and need to set the right example, people out there who aren't as competent in the water as you might not wear one because 'ollie' doesn't, and it just might end up saving not only theirs but your life as well one day? I never used to wear one, then i had kids and got over myself. I want you to keep inspiring me and others for many years yet haha. Cheers brother.
What's your gopro video settings, trying to get into more videos of my diving, Cheers
cool
Where is this located in NZ? Beautiful viz.
Did you manage to weigh the Kingy?
you should do a collaboration with josh james. that would be sick
Every time I watch your videos I think to myself “I wonder if he would take me out and teach a few things if I could treck out to New Zealand one day”
I am just in awe of how beautiful and flourishing the water/Marine life is, and I respect your aproach/dedication to the hobby/sport of freediving. As a 20 year old ocean lover and freediver, I look up to you. Plus you just make good videos and they always have me wide eyed with a smile, keep them coming boss!
Thanks for the comment Owen! Definitely try to come over to New Zealand one day for a Dive you will love it!
awesome vid bro but y no life jacket saftey first
Do you launch from whitianga
Great video again, I so need to visit Nz !! Why don't you wear the kill cord, especially when solo in the boat??
no GWShark in new zealand specifically that part?
Yea there are whites all around nz. More down south tho in the cooler water
how long to motor to aldermans from main land ollie
not long bro 30-40 cruising
5:10 I hope Stu doesn’t wear his pants as low as his weight belt 😂
That’s why I have a belt reel if im not using a float line
What happened to the boarfish?
Fell off the clip of my speargun!!!
With the cost of fresh fish, I bet your equipment pays for itself pretty quick.
Cant wait to go on my first primal pursuit mission with a boat full of girlfriends.
floats in a boat are a hassle but.....
You should come put a shaft in one of these big bluefin tuna that are getting in close to shore off the north coast of Tasmania. Check out your Facebook. I made a generous offer for you on there if you are interested.
Will go have a hunt for your message
Can’t find it maybe send again or try me on Instagram
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit I posted it on your wall in the comments of a picture. Don't do insta sorry mate
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit I've offered you a loan of a camper trailer with a rooftop tent a car and a kayak if you want to come over and try n put a shaft in one..
I think you should consider a better thumbnail for this video than the one you chose. The one you chose is just a drone video photo with you on the side. But that other Alderman islands video you did, it got over 1M views in 11 months. The other video's title is nothing special... you optimized it more for youtube search rather than making an intriguing title to get somebody to click. Nevertheless that video has over 1 million, which leaves the thumbnail. The thumbnail on that video is amazing, you with a long speargun in blue camo wetsuit in blue water with hundreds of fish behind you. That's an amazing thumbnail and it's why I think that video did so well.
Considering this video is also alderman islands, I'd consider taking some still pictures from it of underwater shots, whatever looks the best, mabey do a poll and ask your audience which one they would click on.
I would also consider perhaps lessening or discontinuing the usage of drone photos as part of your video thumbnails. You've got a drone and you use it so I'm going to assume you like to "make use of it" by getting the aerial photos. However, diving is done underwater, not in the sky, not from the point of view of a bird. It doesn't make logical sense to me to use drone photos in your thumbnails. I think better for the POV to be on the water, or under the water.
Have you seen Harmonious Ra's most popular video? He's just holding 2x paua but they are so enormous, people are obviously enticed to click and have a look. No drone video there.
One of the things I do is keep trying to improve on thumbnails and titles because a few years ago, the conventional wisdom was to optimize videos more for youtube search with keywords in the titles and tags and relevant metadata in the description. But now with youtube already auto-transcribing the dialouge in your video, the algorithim already knows what your video is about and knows who to reccommend it to. So the people who make those "How to grow on youtube" video tend to tell you now to prioritise the titles and thumbnails to entire people to click and watch.
I think you should do more experimenting, get some feedback from your audience. You're putting so much effort in with these constant dives, although your channel is doing well, I think it could do even better. If I was you, I would spend more time on the thumbnails and titles. One trick is to think up 3 or 4 titles for the same video and then ask yourself (or audience, friends, anyone)... "Which one would you click on?" (Same goes for thumbnails).
Where is your life jackets
