    Terrific review!!! I just bought a Jupiter 3. Can't wait to get it in my hands and on my mirrorless. One minor point: The Russians made this lens from the late 40s, not the late 50s. The copy I bought is from 1955 but I've seen copies for sale from 1949

    I've really been enjoying this 'series' of your exploration through these old lenses. There's something intriguing about using these old lenses with new tech, and hearing you enthuse about them, and also seeing what they produce.

    Hey Blunty, I have the Jupiter 11, mine is from 1963 and I absolutely love it, I am strongly considering a Jupiter 21m as my next buy for a long throw telephoto. These Russian lenses are fantastic. Thanks for the review

    Good grief, that is one lovely lens! The images produced with that glass look gorgeous. I can see why you said the lens has character to it.

    Hi Blunty ! Thanks for a great channel full of terrific info!!! I am collecting all the cool Russian, CCTV, and Cap lenses you've reviewed for some projects this next summer. Can you do a short video on how you "clean up" a used lens when you get them. Any special tricks, do's or don'ts? Thanks for all your great work. Really fun to watch and first class info !!! Joe

    I've been hinting one of these since I got my A7. Small, Light and Fast would prefectly match the A7's design.

      Mik Youtee pretty much my experience. I wanted to grab some Range Finder glass at the Camera Market but only a Canon 50mm f1.8 RF which was full of bubbles

    Thanks

    Blunty, slightly off-topic. What are your thoughts on Panasonic G6? I don't think I saw any video where u talked about it. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy this camera anyway, but I would like to know your opinion.

      I prefer to shoot hand-held more often then not... Less to carry, and keeps me more rapidly flexible in moving around to find angles and compositions.

    a great and very cheap alternative to the jupiter 3 is the jupiter 8 50mm f2. I got mine for 10 euro with a nice zorki 4k rangefinder camera :) nice.

    I had (It self destructed) a Soviet Era MIR-1; It`s a modified Zeiss Design, but the Russians did amazing things when the changed the designs.
    But that Punch to the colours. Just. Wow.

    Hey Blunty, my parents are moving house and found some lenses, would you like me to send them your way? None of us are really photo-people, so we don't have any use for them. They have been stored well.
    Great video, as always!

    Great video. Can it be used/ work well with an adapter on a Sony Nex 5R?

    • @BluntyTV
      @BluntyTV  10 років тому +1

      Yes. These were designed for 35mm rangefinder cameras, so the image circle will easily cover the APSC sensor in the NEX line.

    One of the reasons why Canon DSLRs suck is that you cannot use such old lenses.

  • @Brendan-Grant

    so jealous of you right now! Hows a 50mm lens look on a MFT body? It's like almost 100mm crop right?

  • @samgunthur8806

    woooah those Germans really knew how engineer lenses, and the russians were good at following the clever plans hay.

    • @BluntyTV
      @BluntyTV  10 років тому +11

      Yup. This particular design was crafted by Carl Zeiss himself. A very clever man. He was making lenses for scientific microscopes before photographic cameras were even invented!

      adapter

    • @mjones410
      @mjones410 10 років тому

      depends what you are fitting it to, mirrorless cameras they just fit with an adaptor, DSLRs they require modification.

    • @MrFourthhorsemen
      @MrFourthhorsemen 9 років тому

      matt jones Please, tell me how to fit these lens into dslr. Is it possible to fit it into canon 30d?

    • @mjones410
      @mjones410 9 років тому +1

      MrFourthhorsemen to be honest, I don't know how. But because the flange distance on the rangefinder lens is smaller than on your canon 30d you would need an adaptor with glass in it to refocus. Something similar to this for lm39 to canon - www.kipon-usa.com/kipon-m42-lens-to-nikon-f-camera-body-adapter.html
      Or modify the lens, optically like this - www.leicashop.com/vintage_en/leica/lenses-for-m39-screw-mount/canon-lenses-for-m39-mount/canon-f-leica-m39-135-4-seiki-kogaku-serenar-sku21015-34.html

    I got two for my nikon D7100 the 50 and the 85 mm on the (D7100 M42 mount) I now used the none optic adapter on the 50 mm... Close up the image is super sharp and the fact the adapter is missing creates a wonderful bokeh (as it no longer will focus to infinity because the m42 needs the optic in it to do so......) I had an issue with the optic mount adapter it got stuck on the D7100 i needed grips to get it off. The company did refunded me the money for the adapter . Mean while I purchased the the glass less version to be going on with or I would never have thought to try is with out infinity focus. A new twist to learning by one's mistakes. cu
