'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Star Jacob Batalon Goes Comic Book Shopping & Talks Hobgoblin

- In a new episode of Comic Book Shopping, we’re joined by Spider-Man: Homecoming co-star Jacob Batalon to talk about hanging with Donald Glover, working with Tom Holland, wanting to become Hobgoblin, and much more. Do you like comics and celebrities who also happen to like comics? You’re in luck! We at Collider have a variety of original shows ranging from panel-style Movie Talk to the more utility-based Best Movies on Netflix, and now we’re happy to introduce a brand new show for our channel: Comic Book Shopping. Each episode will find a different celebrity or personality going to a local comics shop with host Jon Schnepp and sifting through and discussing their favorite comics, as well as their own upcoming projects.
In this week’s episode Batalon, who’s unforgettable as Peter Parker’s BFF Ned Leeds in the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios film, teams up with Schnepp and goes to Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles, where the two peruse the aisles talk about Batalon’s experience making Homecoming, hanging out with folks like Tom Holland, Martin Starr, and Donald Glover, and if he wants to see Ned follow his comics arc and become the Hobgoblin.
Batalon also opens up about his love of Star Wars comics as a kid (and nerds out over some Star Wars comics in the store) while Schnepp offers some great suggestions to expand the horizons of those who may be a bit newer to the comics realm. And Batalon even teases his role in Terry Gilliam’s long-awaited The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

Not to undermine the rest of their work, but this has to be Collider's most entertaining project.
I remember trolls being salty over the casting of this dude. Honestly he did an awesome job with the role and he looks like a straight up chill ass dude.. glad he got the part.

Tom Rosas I don't see it as a big deal if you have a job and can afford it. I think the real problem is that he spent that much on his first trip and got a stack of comic books that he may not read because it's intimidating.

erosion271 well Marvel isn't a person. It's not like the same group of people write and direct every film, ya know? And considering that the Spider-Man writers are very clever, maybe they'll avoid stuff like that.

i love how knowledgeable and cool Schnepp was with his output of knowledge. he never came off as pompous or condescending with his knowledge, like when Jacob was unsure about who mighty mouse was, and Schnepp just gives him an honest kool answer that doesn't belittle jacob. Totally how you should educate someone new to comics
Hell yeah! These episodes keep getting better and better. Batalon seens like an awesome guy and Schnepp is looking great!
Jacob's super-upbeat, appreciative attitude is infectious in Spider-man and right here, too. Loved seeing him all wide-eyed for the Darth Vador book. He'd be great on one of those celeb-Schmoedowns or something -- he's a PR natural.

Here’s the thing, get someone who is REALLY into comics and have them explain a lot about their own experiences and talk about their favorites.
For example, if a star is very invested in Spider-Man have them talk a lot about them!
Also, have them pick the comics instead of giving them a comic TO READ, most likely they won’t read them. Sadly.

just a suggestion, it would cooler if the guest is also a comic book nerd, so we can watch Schnepp geeked out with someone who's also a "sweaty". I kinda getting a vibe that Schnepp is schooling these guest about comic books and telling them which one to buy.
But the show is still awesome tho! Schnepp looks so smooth and doesn't come off like a pretentious know-it-all nerd. One of my favorite shows on this channel!
Unfortunately you can't bet on many famous people to always be actual comic book nerds. Plus a lot of our current superhero actors/actresses arent even comic nerds either. Theyre fans of the heros, but dont necessarily know all the lore and different stories. And in reality, the actors' names are the people we really wanna see on here, or that will get this channel more traffic. With exceptions like Kevin Smith, and possibly other top teir youtube geek personalitiesm
