I'm so excited for Monster Hunter Rise!!
me too :D
MH Rise will consume all my free time for the foreseeable future.
I look forward to the rise content
Not long now!!!

“Don’t hit the claws! Hit the the cooch!” My new favorite quote by the wise Captain Astronaut.
You are wise
So humble
Fun fact when coming up with monsters they literally go to the zoo for a few hours
Edit: out of curiosity how many of you didn't know that
Mother Nature do be a funky source of inspiration tho
that sounds fun as hell
@@jestaplushgal3528 ikr
Heck, they even work with Scientist.
Some of them even went to the himalayan mountains for iceborne just to study the habitats of the animals that live there so they can replicate their movements and etc. for monsters in the newer games. They really go above and beyond just to make the monsters feel life like
Captain Astronaut: Players have to decide on their armour, if they want more defence, elemental resistances, etc...
Players: I will only ever pick what does the most damage
people be building like they're speedrunners and carting lol.
@@rdtiel this feels like a personal attack
Or what's fabulous best end game is the fashion game

Me : Woah this armos is looking good.I take it for entire game.
That's my dream. To have a bubble bath move.
You can have a bubble bath move in MH Rise lol
Monsters eat to recover stamina when tired and sleep when they are low on health (25-15% depending on the monster) to heal by around 5% if not interrupted
This is golden info for me who is new to monster
“There are no undodgeable attacks in the game”
_World Alatreon flashbacks_
I think there's a reason he prefers showing classic monhun footage over world footage. A good reason...
@@igeljaeger uh there sure is shitters. You dodge it by making sure you're not deadweight, beat the dps check and chug your astera jerky. May not be literal but you ain't dying and it's a very intentional mechanic to keep worthless idiots out. Glad i play solo.
@@icebarrage_iwc indeed solo alatreon is much much worth and easier
@Killersai you’re annoying :D
@@homiepuff4232 he stated facts though.
I remember the first time soloing G rank alatreon, it feels amazing, i was on last cart and already accepting i'm fighting a losing battle but then the screen cut to alatreon falling from the sky and die,it's my third attempt after 2 failed attempt that last good 45 min each, the feeling of shock, confuse, disbelief and then joy 10/10 would hunt him again
Solo G Alatreon?? 💯💯💯
"It's a feeling of, "We did it!" Not a feeling of, "Glad that's over.""
I dunno about other hunters, but my mileage varies on this. I feel like everyone must have a handful of monsters they just dislike having to hunt. For me, almost any Elder Dragon makes me have the "glad that's over" reaction.
@@kadachinova5302 Hyper monster are like that for me.
My favorite monster is Valstrax and his fight is easily my favorite in the whole series! Everytime I kill him( I've killed over 300 of the poor jet bois) I get an incredible feeling of euphoria!
@@jackkrell7313 Valstrax is one of the few Elder Dragons I don't dislike hunting, and I quite love him, too. It's probably because he doesn't have any gimmicky nonsense, it's just a straightforward hunt against a jet-powered dragon. And he can't get a free hit from his roars like Teo/Luna/Kush.
Fucking Gravios
AND THEY KEEP BRINGING HIM BACK WHAT THE HELL CAPCOM
Khezu, gravios and basarios
There technically are undodgable attacks, such as Alatreons Escaton Judgment or Safis Sapphire of the Emperor. But while these aren't "dodgeable", they are avoidable, be that by hiding behind a rock, or approaching the Monster in a way that makes the undodgable attack survivable
Also, this review is much more specifically focused at GenU as a representative of games before World. You'd be hard pressed to find ANYTHING you couldn't dodge or block in those games.
Also, those mechanics only existed in World due to developer experimentation, and only on a handful of DLC Monsters (Behemoth, Safi'Jiva, Alatreon, and Fatalis). For the vast majority of the series, they are not included, and for good reason. I personally hope mechanics like that won't return in future titles because the way they break up a fight in order to interact with only your health bar and not your actual HP, defense, and character model makes them feel fundamentally NOT Monster Hunter to me. Dying to an attack that kills you in one hit because you chose not to make a set capable of surviving the blow is one thing, but an attack that can't be avoided with the core mechanics of the game and automatically kills you regardless of armor or item buffs is just too artificial and "video gamey" to fit with what the series stands for.
@@MH3Raiser as someone who is playing through genU right now with about 100 hours i really feel like plenty of monsters have attacks that will instantly hit you if you're too close to the monster. Stuff like rathian's running attack or like 50% of everything yian garuga does.
@@MojoPjojo In all seriousness, if you're standing under a Rath monster after it turns to face you, or standing so it doesn't have to turn as a tell, then you deserve to get hit, speaking from countless experiences of GETTING hit.
Yes, Rath charges often had hitboxes from the start of the attack, but they could only be used in a straight line and would turn to target before they fired, giving plenty of time to get out of the way. Half the skill of old school MH was figuring out the safest angles to be standing against a monster, Raths typically don't have many 'no tell' moves that hit their sides. Another example would be behind Tigrex's wings; most monsters even now have 'safe angles' and 'danger angles'.
So while yes, that is TECHNICALLY true, it's perfectly possible to play in a way that reduces those hits down to a near zero number, that is if you respect the monster and don't try for extra damage you can't safely get
@@MH3Raiser yeah i’ve been doing better recently focusing more on spacing and being a bit less aggressive, such is the way of starting with world
u kno what I think what you said about the speed of your attacks being slower than most other games being a turnoff has been true of me as well, I'm definitely someone who likes to move fast in games, but hearing you talk about how this is all deliberate and it's worth the learning curve makes me actually much more interested in learning more about this game series. thank u mr. spaceman
Happy to help Alister :)
Try out something like the dual blades or sword and shield! They can move fast and dodge a lot of the time, but have big commitment combos if you start getting more confident in when to attack. You can do it!
Have you played a game yet?
Honestly, I came here originally for Splatoon like most people but I can tell how genuinely he likes this game and I feel like it rubbed off on me. I have never played this game before but after this video, I think I'll give it a chance. It seems fun, well balanced, interesting, and ultimately a game that had a lot of thought put into it, and welp, guess what imma be searching for on this channel now! Also, please make more videos of this because all the monsters seem interesting and varied and I'd love to see a more experienced player play verses them. Have fun and keep up the great work!
This game series is great. Getting into the games does take some effort to acclimate to all the complexities, but the recent entries are much more accessible to new players than the old games. Take your time and it may become one of your favorite series like it did for me.
Play the game it's too good
dude I got here with his Xenoblade and Monster Hunter videos I didn't even know he did splatoon XD
It's amazing. It's a game like no other imo. You are welcome to join! The Monster Hunter community is one of the best out there.

Hey Astro how long will you be doing the Monster Hunter Mondays? I like them so I hope they won't end too soon.

@@Chrisdish But you don't get 1 shotted
As MH veteran I know you illustrated everything a new player should know about monster hunter before getting into the game. This is video really good and should be sent to anyone who on the fence about the series.
I swear this is the Monster Hunter content I never knew I needed, please keep it up :D
actually i'm pretty sure monsters only gain health by sleeping. when they'r eeating they're just regaining stamina (hence why they only eat when exauhsted)
They do
The grind section reminds me of the time i had to farm for rathalos plate in MH4U. Hunt the f*cker so much that i could hunt him before 4 star quests when i play World.
Greatsword in Monster Hunter is basically "you will never hit anything. but when you DO, it will HURT and feel awesome. so as soon as you for ONCE hit that monster, instead of being knocked around like a rag doll trying, he will take huge damage and likely be knocked down for free hits"
Can’t wait for this channel to become gaijin hunter.
Not complaining, loving this content.

Watching this really made me miss the many great and fun mons from XX. Also the visual effect when you land attacks on their weak areas was so damn satisfying
Wooooohoooo! Next MH video is out. I was looking forward to this after your awesome first one
A really well made video showcasing the essence of mh's gameplay, love it
I love arena fights where there's constant pressure making all your decisions much less of "I'll run out and run back in when I'm ready again" and more of "there it is, this is when I whetstone ao I don't get hit by the monster" that is unless you chose to bring a farcaster in which you have to decide when it is the right time to use it as you might need it later when you truly need it or spend it now when you can use it
Great video. Hearing someone talk about Monster Hunter game design is really cool.
5:27 bro, you hurt me with that Tloz reference but you're saying facts 😆😆
Beautiful video man you truly captured well the essence of this game
6:53: thank you for the Nergigante theme, love it
This was actually pretty neat watching about the game design i never thought about it
Why do you cover the best franchises :3 hyped for more MH content!
If I need to convince someone into trying MH, im gonna recommend this vid. You encapsulate everything I want to tell someone to get them intrigued about the franchise summarized in 10 minutes
Monster Hunter has become one of my favorite games since playing and getting hooked to Monster Hunter World. I know some complain about it but it got me hooked. Hell I bought a Switch OLED just to play Monster Hunter Rise and also Zelda Breath of the wild. I’m still getting use to Rise and how the new mechanics work. I am having fun and I like that even when I join up with random people I’m still able to beat the hardest monsters. Obviously not all the time but a lot of the time I can. I don’t have a group of people to play with so it’s great that it is possible.
I just bought my first MH and this video help me a lot, im feeling wise Captain! Gracias Homie
I love monster hunter Astro and these videos are awesome
how'd it take me this long to find this channel. this is my shit right here.
Nice breakdown. I had only ever watched videos of MH games until I got a Switch, and Gen Ult was possibly the most invested I ever got into a game in my life. Now that Rise is out, I can't wait to actually be there for the hype of updates and new monsters.
This. This is the best explanation I've heard of why Monster Hunter is rewarding to play. Great video.
I love your monster hunter videos they're great.
I love when someone loves so much something it's able to make other people engaged, despite their knowledge in the subject.
One important thing: You lose sharpness every time you hit. So if you use a Seregios greatsword (sharpness gain on dodge) you never need to sharpen.
I'm sure you made some valid points but I was too caught up in the bipedal cats' names. Incredible
well damn, this is a really good video to show to people to invite them to play
MH truly is a special game. It's my very favorite besides X-Wing and TIE Fighter. Great vid man
Great video it perfectly sums up what Monster Hunter really is. I just send it to a friend whos first Mh will be Rise.
Great video!! Summed up why I fell in love with Monster Hunter! Too bad some of this designs are lost to the post World monster Hunter. Probably staying in GU
"All attacks have tells."
*flashbacks to rathalos tackle and plesioth tail swipe*
Monster hunter world is great I just started playing it beat it. Now MR 2 and loving it
I appreciate that assault on my ears with ur British accent
"But if you get once, and don't get hit again for a while, a portion of your health will restore, thereby not punishing the player too greatly for making one mistake, and even rewarding them for playing smarter after their mistake."
*Laughs in EX quest*
Imagine being able to survive a hit
this post was made by ex quest and event black dragon quest gang
Good stuff! You really nailed how complex the games are beyond their seemingly simple premise, I never even gave much of a thought to the impact fighting a monster in a different locale has in tackling the monotony of the grind but you're so right in that the games always give you the opportunity to fight them in different places and keep things relatively fresh
I would say GREAT stuff but unfortunately that "British" accent at the start is holding you back. Never do that again
Fudj!! I love your videos! Also thanks!
And a lot of my favorite UA-cam game design people (including you) have British accents, but yeah I...I clearly can't do one haha
Loving all the MH content~
And don't forget the companions. Cats and now dogs also. At some point tribal overlords but it was a different time
I love your monhun content.
Really great video 👍👍👍
Thanks man my friend is getting mh rise and it’s his first mh game and I knew I would suck at explaining the game to him
Man that is a new way for me to look at the game
your voice makes your videos so much more entertaining
Thanks :)
and then W:IB alatreon came around and showed us the pure suffering of what an undodgable one shot attack that you don't really get told how to weaken is
So excited for rise!!!!!!!
I love this video. Good shit.
6:26 Yian Garuga. One frame. Zero to sixty. Point-blank. _Works every time._
this video just helped me realize how much i trivialize monster hunter with my ridiculous builds that focus on life style changes like faster sharpening faster potion eating plus health regen on hit and over time with max defense and free meal and full stun negation
3:59 “there are no unavoidable attacks”
Iceborne alatreon and plesioth: *sweats intensively*
4:50 4th gen Garuga defied that law. If you are in close range, the charge will hit you before it starts doing so.
Nothing but facts, great video
"There are no undodgeable attacks in this game"
MH FU diablos double roar stun flashbacks
9:02 Boy, I wish this got around more on the internet.
and the music is so good
There's also the tracking element that, combined with the lack of a health bar, creates an atmosphere of hunting an animal rather than fighting a boss. One of the reasons some people have been slightly turned off by Rise is the quality of life changes which weaken that atmosphere (namely the red arrow and removal of hot and cold drinks).
Seeing MH Content from UA-cam Dot Com User Captain Astronaut injects my brain with instant serotonin (the happy chemical)

MonHun is one of the main reason why I was able to survive Dark Souls when it came out.

Anticipation is right when my great sword. Or hammer is flipping over my head and going to hit the mob I do a weird motion in my chair where I like mimic the motion the char onscreen is. By the time it lands I'm 3ft closer to the tv. I can't be the only one?
the video was pretty cool, but I would have liked a less sudden end, that was surprising
Amazing cat names 👌👌👌
Well said sir.👍
It is a bit dificult to play since I am used to others games rhythm, but I am getting used to it and getting less frustated when I lose, because now I understand it was my mistake for not playing well than the game being clunky or slow.
Also, I have been hunting witht eh bow or the sword & shield. "I am playing Zelda" like you said XD
Good video!
Thanks!! :)
This is a great video but i couldnt help but notice that you used dragon weapons on Silverlos and Valstrax, both are immune to dragon
“There’s never one shots that can’t be dodged.” Me thinking about alatreon in world
Dear oh dear what was it the hunt, the blood,or the horrible dream
Wait wrong game
*Fear the Old Blood...*
No undodgeable attacks... except for those 4 monsters attacks in world/iceborne. All you can do is hide behind a few specific things.i hope those never return. Or as I call them, the screen nukes.
This is the first confirmation I’ve seen that monsters heal by eating.
World/iceborne however forces the players to use elemental weapons only for alatreon or fit in the fighting style of final fantasy with behemoth
You slowly drink the drink Astronaut 2021
I don't know man, there are definitely hunts where I am saying," Glad that shit's over." *cough* Khezu *cough*

Awesome, you perfectly explained why MH is one of the best game on the market, before world even came in to increase the fanbase.
Ight, ight Astro yo vids on this game is making me fr want to get into it now.
Funny how I have some homeboys who been trying to insist I get this game, and then I watch Astro and even he's basically tellin my ass to get the game lol
