Thank you all for helping us to grow our small business and nurture this amazing community we are part of! Let’s remember together few of the key moments of this remarkable journey.
My carving journey started with a wood carving kit by Täljogram, I got from my partner as a Christmas present. Having a new-born at home spoon carving was the only activity that would keep the noise levels down. Watching Sean, Lee Stoffer and Max on UA-cam made me realise I was missing something. What sparkled the idea was that in order to be able to carve at home at night what I needed was green spoon blanks.
It was then when I started contacting some of the most talented carvers and shared the idea of start offering collaboratively spoon blanks to people with no access to green wood. Allow me to thank, among others Emmet, Sean, Myron, Lee Stoffer, Will and Max for getting into a call with me and sharing their thoughts on the idea. Apologies if I’m forgetting someone.
Going back to when we were about to launch the website, I vividly remember that the corona crisis had just started. Our initial thinking was to postpone the launch and wait, but thanks to the positive energy and support from some of the makers-members of The Spoon Crank who had already joined, we decided to take our chances and launch. The very next day the first order came in! Nothing makes me more happy than seeing how much the spoon blank-market has grown. Today, there are few if no excuses not to give spoon carving a try.
Apart from offering spoon blanks through “The Carvers Without Borders Network”, we have grown to become a marketplace for makers from all over the world, offering wooden spoons, spoon templates, hand forged carving tools, handmade leather articles, workshops, sharpening solutions and other supplies.
There is a lot to learn and even more to do, but nothing will give me more joy than to keep promoting the crafts that I’m passionate about and do my best to support the makers themselves for nurturing and keeping this community so alive.
