I know he's a good player, but I worry about being injured twice in a year, and yes, I worry a lot about his strikeouts kinda reminds me of Gorman. But only time will tell
St louis got away with straight robbery. This kid can definitely play ball and it’ll be fun to keep up with his future as a Redbird

Man JD I wish we could of lost more in 2023😂. Our organization has been very successful in winning without getting high draft picks. Thanks to the scouts and our front office. Just think if Oscar Taveras was here! Weatherholt I lijke bcz I'm a storm spotter and chaser. 😂 hopefully he will take care of those legs!⚾️🏆 btw I believe that's 2 serious hammies inside a year. I watched an interview with Weatgerholt where he said that he was clocked around 89-90 mph from the mound in high school and he believed that he could hit 92 today. That’s not Masyn Winn, but I’d say his arm is plenty strong enough for short or third.
Yeah, I don't think Tommy Edman could do that. It's definitely solid arm strength for a SS. That's actually about what I threw in HS from the mound, but I mostly played SS. For some reason it seemed like I threw harder from SS . I played with a major leaguer in HS and he practiced at SS with me, but he was mainly a pitcher and that's what he did in the majors. He could get it up to 98-99 on the mound at times later on in his ML career, but he probably averaged 94 on his fastball in his best days. Still it was hard for me to say who had the better infield arm at that point. He definitely outclassed me on the mound. It's the same thing with infield/outfield. Sometimes someone might have a better infield arm than outfield arm or vice versa. Wetherholt should be fine at short with that kind of arm. Hopefully he's playing second or third because I think Masyn Winn is going to be a perennial gold glove type at SS. That's good news though, that arm will play at either position.

Hey JD; I could not be happier about this pick! IMO you always get the best player available that’s still on the board in the draft. Wetherholt scored a 70 with his bat on the 20-80 scouting scale. The guy just flat out hits!! PERIOD!! I see him at 2nd base. But he can play about anywhere. I see him being a big leaguer by 2026. The guy is an absolute baller!! Unbelievable he did not go earlier in the draft! That hammy injury put him right in the Cards lap, since it’s apparent other teams backed off! WOW!! I’m so pumped about this kid!

After Chase Burns and Hagen Smith were gone JJ Wetherholt was the best imo, we lucked out. If he's really solid, I hope to see him just fly through the minors and hopefully by some miracle start as soon as next year.
I mean if he can adjust his hitting to the majors league level and play well at 2nd I don't see why not. It's not like Nolan Gorman is doing much at the major league level other than being an automatic out with an occasional homerun
The impressive thing is Cardinals have been successful for 26 years without high draft picks.
JD per the end of the podcast: something about Gorman I'm not sold on quite yet. Like him a lot, but it FEELS like he's still pretty extreme hot or cold and his extreme cold lasts longer...a lot longer. Still young enough, still growing and still enticing enough to root for, I just can't quite dive off the deep end with him yet. Like driving with your foot still holding the brake pedal a bit.

As high as everyone is on this pick for JJ Whetherholt. And with Winn playing well at shortstop and Thomas Saggese in waiting. And Siani and Scott II in waiting as well. Personally I’d think Nolan Gorman, Tommy Edman and Brendon Donovan have to be on the chop block for trading for the future.

I've said it elsewhere, and I'll leave it here as well: the cardinals nabbing Wetherholt at seven this year is just like the nationals getting Anthony Rendon at six back in 2011. Rendon came into his draft spring the more or less consensus number one pick, then missed much of that season with I think an ankle injury. He slips to six, and the Nats got the best player in that draft after dating Harper and Strasburg number one each of the previous two years.
I'm happy St Louis drafted the best player available. I heard his future is centerfield

That's a promising draft pick but not trying to be negative but this team better make some moves and go ahead and remove Mikolas and Goldy their destroying this team. I'm gonna throw a hissy fit if we finish in last place again.

Might as well have trade pieces in an area that you have plenty of to trade for and area that you don’t. Trade package in a year to get a pitcher with 2 years control and a chance to resign and then still have a solid 2B

Tommy Edman is a nonentity now? I know he is recovering from surgery but I thought he was going to be the future for either SS or 2B.
They went ahead and moved Edman at center field instead. Winn is exceptional at shortstop and I would keep him where he's at. Nolan Gorman on the other hand needs to go immediately and isn't helping this team at all except for an occasional home run and I can't believe he's still the starting 2nd baseman. If this prospect adjusts his hitting to the majors and can play 2nd at this level I don't see why not have him play over Gorman

You always take the best available. It’s such a crap shoot developing pitching so it doesn’t make sense to go after a lower ranked pitcher. They likely wouldn’t be ready for 2-3 years….Minimum.

Saggesse had a bad month of June but he has been really hot lately. If he continues to play like this for the remainder of the season, I feel he would get traded in the offseason.
Goldy has been a huge disappointment though
