The dolls that took over the internet now has a movie on Netflix. And this is one of those moments where it hurts to do my job because this is literally one of the worst movies I've seen.

I'm not into LOL surprise, nor am I gonna watch this movie, but I think it would be possible to make the "girl gets sent into the doll world" plot work. First off, rather than making the magic glasses appear out of nowhere, the glasses should be something Ava's been having, like a life-size version of an acessory. Then, to match, Queen Bee could have similar glasses, which is why she specifically becomes Queen Bee. Considering how Ava's gonna move, maybe she could have used the magic glasses as a way to distract herself from the move. Like. she's still confused at first, but she comes to like it because it stops her from worrying about moving. The other characters notice Queen Bee's being weird, but they're so focused on the movie they don't think too deeply about her behavior, until Royal Bee finally calls her out because they're sisters, and there's no way she wouldn't notice. Then Ava could explain what happened and her situation, and while Royal Bee is worried about her real sister, she sympathizes with Ava and gives her encouragement ("Moving isn't bad, change is good, blah blah blah.") After that, they finish the movie, and Royal Bee thanks Ava for her help. Then we can have Ava return to the real world, and her mom's about to give the classic "I know moving is hard" speech, but Ava repeats what Royal Bee told her and hugs her mom, having accepted they're moving. The mom tells her they're gonna do one last thing before they move, and then she reveals the movie tickets. Back into the doll world, the real Queen Bee is about to watch the movie with Royal Bee, and she asks her what happened while she was asleep. Cue the credits.

I wished they even teased that she had a sister that looked a lot like royal bee.
I loathe the fact that they got an entire movie and did jack squat with it. This really is insulting
YES! I totally agree bad writing gets money thrown at it and funded while stories with actual good writing struggle to get funded at all. Also it's pretty insulting to children. it's like they have no faith in children's ability to understand what's going on unless it is explicitly spelled out for them. They think they have to be told what job each character has, what their name is what their motivations are and what they have for breakfast. Like kids aren't stupid. I remember the Barbie movies being pretty good as a kid and I can for sure say all of them at least had a plot and made sense as far as I remember.
@@WhitneyDahlin I couldn't have said it better myself. The quality of franchises directed towards kids has gone drastically downhill, and the amount of effort put into franchises is next to nothing anymore. It's quite simply disappointing

7:52 something being a kids movie doesn't exclude it from being criticized especially how it's been shown multiple times that kids do know the difference between a bad movie and a good one. That's why kids movies do screenings with kids, because they know.

Ava is literally everyone in the improve games the theater teacher has us do. I always have to take the lead and basically tell them who they are. I have to tell them that they're a wizard or my son or an elf. Like, once they're set up they can play along fine but before that I'm talking to a wall

It's not quite an improv team per say but the theatre teacher trying make us better actors so we stop stiffly going through the motions of our roles. Nobody wants to go to a school play if it's just kids repeating stuff they memorized

Aahah, yeah that is no fun, but with improv setup is incredibly important but it has to be subtle at the same time kinda. Like if the people doing improv have different ideas of what they are doing or are confused it doesn't work very well.
Honestly, this movie gave me an entirely new appreciation for Ever After High and Monster High films. Cause I thought all doll movies were like that but apparently those two series were just miles ahead of anything else.
Love the animation, just wish they could use their writers full potential. music videos are like the best thing they have, so a musical/jukebox musical. Also. i didn't know the movie switched around the styles of animation. Maybe for end credits the stop motion would be fun.
They make amazing music and lyrics but writing on the house of surprised us quite… strange
they should try making films similar to the old barbie movies/monster high movies,, yknow decent amount of plot + some good songs thrown in.
I feel like a big part of why this movie is such a flop (& why it took so long for mga to make a movie/show in the 1st place) is that unlike barbie or monster high, omg doesn't really have characters. At least, not ones fleshed out enough to build stories around (tho house of surprises is trying).
Like, monster high came out the gate w/ a full world concept & characters w/ at least rudimentary backstories & personalities (hobbies, fears, goals, etc). Barbie's entire deal is being a blank slate that can be fit into any role in any setting. But omgs have a lil 2 sentence blurb to describe their aesthetic/general demeanor, & nothing beyond that. Their personalities are too vague to build stories around, yet simultaneously too specific to give the blank slate treatmemt. & since mga's sales strategy limits every character to only 1 doll, there's nothing to flesh out their personalities in different settings, like beach- or sports-wear would.
I think house of surprises took a good 1st step by making it clear the omgs are working adults, & distinguishing their personalities by their careers. But the storytelling is still limited by the "1 doll per character, as many new characters as possible" tactic. Everybody outside the core 4 gets 1 story to tell, & then we don't hear from them again bc 1) their character was built to be hyperspecifc to 1 type of situation, & 2) the next new character in line needs to be promoted.

To this day, the only toy manufacturer that ever made good movies was Mattel. I'm talking golden age barbie movies (early 2000s) and even recently, esp with barbie vlog( as a mental health worker, I love this! It works for any age, and talks about serious topics in an inspiring way. seriously. check it out. Im not getting sponsored but check them out lol), Monster High and Ever After High, and even the more obscure things. Enchantimals gives me some chuckles when I need some positive vibes, and the characters are likeable (which is how it should be. Period. I'm looking at you, Rainbow high).
I think the difference is that Mattel actually cares about what they put out. They team up with legitimate animation studios whose passion and love for their work really shows. I'm not saying everything they put out is good, but the great ones are truly bangers.

Wonky eyes, misprints, bald heads, broken pieces, smudges… Wow such a good quality control! And of COURSE barbies are cheaper lmao look at the quality, they have printed fabrics, no articulation, pixelated faces and polypropylene hair. The price being cheap is the bare minimum. Meanwhile, rainbow high and lol omg serve you collector quality, with real pockets, zipers, functional belts and draw strings, embroidery, diversity of fabric, good outfit construction, high quality hair, inset eyes with real eyelashes and sprayed makeup. All of that for less than 30 dollars in the regular lines. Cry about it
As a kid I grew up on the Barbie 2000’s movie juice and the Monster High/Ever After High shows/movies- those films/episodes rose my standards so high to children’s media nowadays.
The LOL Surprise Movie was very underwhelming compared to other movies based on doll lines in my opinion. I'm glad I grew up with Barbie and the original Monster High, because those had much better movies that actually had morals and better storytelling. And compared to Rainbow High's webisodes, I feel like the writers for the LOL surprise movie aren't trying to make it good. At least the House of Surprises series is okay, but no doll webseries can compare to Monster High or Ever After High for me. Mattel actually knew how to release good digital media for their dolls without making it seem like a weird toy commercial.
This movie hurt me mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. This is the fuel of nightmares and I’m scared to go on Netflix due to the fear is seeing this

I was very disappointed when I watched the movie. The animation is nice, but the story wasn't great and there were a lot of unnecessary scenes like the stop motion, the kid, and combining all the endings into one. I was glad that the series has better writing. I actually enjoyed the series. I kinda wish that the movie was more focused on maybe how actual movie production works instead of teaching the kid a lesson about being ok to move to a new house.
Love the dolls but after Monster High and Ever After High, heck even Bratz and Barbie, this is worthless trash. Out of all the current doll media out there, there is nothing good right now and it's honestly a waste of such a huge budget. I'd rather have cheaper 2D animation with actual effort put into making it entertaining. I'm not even saying this as a collector, I genuinely just want better for the kids because as a kid I still wouldn't watch this crap.
Funnily enough, I feel the exact opposite about LOL OMG: I find them _stunning_ (I'm a fashion doll fan), while I couldn't care less about the original LOL surprise dolls 😅

I just watched this yesterday and I had few notes 📝 myself on it. First of all, the beginning gave me little to no context to what was happening other than the main character which was a little girl making a movie/playing with her doll and mom told her that she to pack her boxes 📦 to move. I mean what was the reason to why they were moving. Was it because the mother couldn't afford the house? Was the mother getting a new job to another state? I would’ve love more information on that. Second of all, the girl’s L.O.L Surprise playhouse just magically had 3-D glasses 👓 appear right in front of her and she gets isekaied to the L.O.L Surprise universe? Like how the playhouse just suddenly have magic 🪄 It made no sense whatsoever. Third of all, the girl came back and she was excited about moving and then the mom sprang movie tickets 🎟 to the L.O.L Surprise movie 🍿 There was no mention about the movie 🍿 what so ever until the very end. I mean the girl 👧🏾 was making the movie but no mention of the actual movie was mentioned. Honestly, I would've prefer if the movie kinda stuck to the L.O.L Surprise universe instead using the live action beginning and ending or they would just made the mini series and no movie at all. I mean if they gonna use the Toy 🧸 Story/Isekai approach I would expect to have more context to the moving part in the beginning, the reason for the "magic" playhouse, the ending to make sense. These are just my opinion, so take with a grain of salt .

The plot of being turned into a doll or being a person in the doll world could have been SO good, the fact they had it centered around the movie just cuz 'haha! it's the LOL Movie, get it?!' makes it so so bad. The first two stop motion segments were the most entertaining parts. I remember my boyfriend and I were screaming in laughter from the horrid ending of the terribly disjointed ending of the 'movie'
I also know and did local theater with one of the voice actresses in this movie and let me tell you, she was a paaain to deal with as a kid and when she moved to LA to make it big as a literal kid, yeah... yeah this is about how I saw it going. The voice acting is SO bad, from everyone. The only redeeming quality is the CG animation
this movie was so god awful i actually started writing a better one:
"royal bee, Swag, lady diva, and neonlicious are best friends living in surprising city. One day a famous manager comes into the pink palace diner, and hires royal bee to cater on the set of movie magic studios and the FB records music videos. After some time of working, lady diva gets hired to feature on a song with kitty k, a major recording artist, meanwhile swag gets cast in breakfast and BB’s, an upcoming blockbuster film. Bee and neon soon learn that the film and music industry isn't what it's chocked up to be, only for diva and swag to get sucked into Hollywood bull shit. In the end, a major twist happens when the oscar awards get stolen, and 2 agents are on the case, prowling every inch of the property. With the added stress, deadlines, and snobby celebs, how will this mess end? Watch and see who throws hands."

This "movie" was absolutely a boring plotless mess, no doubt. So many other doll lines have made stories w/ engaging plots & characters. But I'm always so confused & annoyed by ppl who criticize fashion doll shows/movies for putting a lot of focus on clothes & makeovers & such. Like obvi we want girl-focused media that goes beyond "go shopping & look pretty", but a series that's explicitly ABOUT fashion is not the place to look for that. It's like watching a fast & furious movie & complaining that the characters talk about cars too much.
I remember when I watched it I just COULDNT get over the names. I was genuinely screaming every single line.

i can't imagine ANY child actually enjoying this. I don't think any of the people working on this movie have kids, let alone give a shit about what they show kids.
Same, it always bothered me too, like... why do the characters have names like "Queen Bee", "24KDJ", "MC Swag", "Candylicious" etc? Why can't they just have normal names? So far, the only LOL characters that have normal names are the tweens.
As an L.O.L Surprise fan, this movie wasn't really worth waiting for. (Back in 2021 when the trailer came out I was so anxious to watch it lol.) What I dislike about this movie is that Ava turned into Royal Bee's sister...it's like she took over her whole body lmao. I could already tell this was a promotion for those movie magic dolls and tbh they're quite nice but the storyline could've been better. The previous movie from 2019 (I believe) was so bad but I wish they stepped up the storyline better

It really sucks that the most diverse doll line we had in the last few years would get a movie that's such a soulless shitty messy cashgrab, because "oh well the movie is for kids, we don't need good writing as long as the kids are entertained and we get to promote the dolls". Say what you want about Mattel and their quality, but at least their Monster High and early 2000s Barbie movies were actually GOOD. Of course, they didn't have 2001 A Space Odyssey levels of writing, but at least they tried and you could see they had effort put into them, they weren't movies that existed just to promote dolls. Even now that I'm 22, The Princess And The Pauper is still an icon of my childhood.

The movie was definitely lackluster, pointless, boring, and as an adult collector specially OMGs and Tweens I was a bit bummed. Especially since it didn't show any of my pass faves or featured at least ONE tween. "The House of Surprises" is better in comparison but it goes down the same path just on a weekly basis. Newer dolls will ALWAYS get an episode before the elder generation, so it's really "HEY LOOK AT THIS NEW DOLL, ARE YA LOOKING!? AREN'T HER EARRINGS FIERCCCCCCEEEE!?

The best show regarding LOL is there episodic series on there UA-cam channel that shows all the dolls living together in a more "natural" setting, it even convinced me to get Freshest(name of doll) I recommend fans check it out!

For a while, any time I wanted to watch something on Amazon Prime I would get a 'trailer' for the LOL Surprise 'movie.' It's a miracle I didn't throw up on my laptop.

Yeah, "It's an ad" is not an excuse, look at Pokemon, Digimon, Zoids, Yu Gi Oh and many other shows designed to sell toys that actually put some effort in their stories, hell, even Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse does it.
Even my 5 year old neice who's a huge lol surprise fan hated this movie, it was so boring.
Say what you want about Bratz Movies and Animation, at least it's funny and entertaining. Plus Rainbow High is good idk why they made a bad movie of lol.

The biggest feat in this movie was that she could make lol stop motion, those dolls joints are always bloody glued together XD or so loose they come off

New lol surprise movie coming 22nd October. This one seems to have a better story from the trailer but it seems to have weird stop motion scenes along with the animated movie.

To be honest the House of Surprises UA-cam series is WAAAYY better than the movie. There's more fun stories and context verse the Movie.

I didn’t mind the stop motion however I would’ve preferred if this was a series instead of a movie
It's mind boggling to me whenever people defend bad movies or shows or whatever that are aimed at children by just saying "oh, well it's for kids." As if kids don't deserve good media. Just because they don't have great critical thinking skills (and, in some cases from personal experience, can't distinguish criticism from "bullying") doesn't mean that they should be given a poorly written commercial as a form of entertainment. But, alas.
This movies just a bit sad if I'm honest, but it would be cool if you covered the series in a video to see if there is any improvement.
There is, if this movie's 100% ad, the series is 50% ad. Just don't expect much depth story-wise, they squandered the premise early on.
This is from experience. I was watching this with my little sister on netflix last year and man, Story wise, It was one of the worst “films” i’ve seen and I was thinking on writing a whole page essay on why this movie sucks. For some reason, it made my sister want to buy more too and rewatch the film. So yeah, like you said, it worked. I won’t ruin it for her, and wait til she realizes how bad it is growing up (just like I did with the Teletubbies). for now let her live her childhood until it lasts. Either way, the movie still sucks.

Love your makeup! Also, when you started I was expecting this movie to be more like ‘girl is moving. Girl doesn’t want to move. Girl is sucked into dolls world as escapism from moving. Dolls teach her change is ok etc and she moves’. But no, who needs conflict?
Felt like I was watching the Emoji Movie, but worse.
Honestly this whole "wrapping up the movie" plot could have worked if the kid was kept outside, gradually having to take apart the house in preparation for the move, and as pieces of the world are taken away, they have to find a way to end this movie that's at the end of filming, but the production team is divided on the ending without enough time for test screenings, and if they fail, they'll have to delay the movie for a long time and kill the hype, so there's actual stakes at play.

One thing that angers me with this movie (well, with MGA in general) is how none of the guy characters are in it, even RH’s guy characters seem to be…just, there. Rocker Boi (pretty much my favorite male doll ever) seems to be hated by MGA because he’s in like nothing lol. 🥲🥲🥲

The worst thing about this movie was that I launched a movie about a girl being transported into another world to finish a movie which was only 17m long and 100% better than LOL SURPRISE the movie. That movie was made by only one person and it is better than this garbege that is on Netflix! The worst part is that the trailer was actually good but the movie was not and that the lol company could not come up with something more original than coping my work and make G it worse!

it's kinda sad I thought of a premise that they could have done. They could have just done a friend group of girls going through a fight they go home to play with their dolls to feel better. They find the 3d glasses in each of their rooms and get turned into little baby dolls and have the big sister dolls help them with their problems and repair their friendships. (it took me a few seconds to come up with this idea. they need a better production team.)

I feel like when compared to Rainbow High, LOL doesn't even compare, both in animation and doll line. The movie was pretty meh, and when you compare them to the webisodes, they look even WORSE and the dolls are kinda weird looking. I don't like how short their arms are in proportion to the rest of their bodies. But it's pretty clear both these doll lines have different target demos in mind. LOL is meant for really young kids, while Rainbow High is catered more towards older kids, and adult collectors who grew up with Bratz and Monster High.
I watched the movie and the animation was good but yeah it was an hour long ad. Like how do you put more energy into the stories of Rainbow High but not an LOL surprise movie? I thought that brand was currently their main bread and butter.

Just look at the Fast and Furious fandom, it's like fast food, doesn't have any depth but you love it and you enjoy it so it's fine. The winter disco movie should be better than this because it has a story and character building. This was mainly a reject ad and doesn't even show the beauty of the dolls! They could have done more on the relationships of characters and at least should have made a better script.

I've watched shows designed to be toy ads, speaking as a Transformers and MLP fan. I don't mind those, because they veil their subliminal adverstisements with a decent, if not at least consistent, narrative. They give their toy characters personality, they have dilemmas, stakes, things for viewers to attach themselves to.
The LOL Surprise Movie seems to have none of that. It's a feature length toy commercial at its logical extreme.
I think it's bullshit that dolls like this get to exist and monster high had to be rebranded because it was too "mature" for the young audience

I watched it, it was disappointing and I agree that it was a big add, but also, I enjoyed see the dolls moving by themselves, it brings back to my memory all those Bratz and Barbie movies, and now, the winter fashion show movie, was, surprisingly better in so many aspects
