I know how you feel. 14 years ago my grandpa died. And yet I know he's watching me. He's with me wherever I am. I don't know why I know it, I just know it. He'll always live in me as long as I remember him. And sincxe he died at Easter I can never forget him. You could say that in some way the story of Jesus has repeated. I don't know much about him and yet thinking of him always being with me makes me calm down and gives me strength and inner peace even though I still miss him.
In reality they are not gone either. All souls live forever. They just had an experience here in a 3D meat suit, like you and me, dragging this shit show of a world into the 5th dimension, where we will all meet again. WWG1WGA
