Soul destroying when the weather is like that , it’s just striking that balance between cheesing the customer off cleaning in the rain and making some money , good work as always guys
Ive been trying to explain to customers that, within reason, we carry on working in rainy weather. Obviously if it's absolutely hammering down then not, but 9 out of 10 times we keep going. I am fed up of people if they cancel because of the rain. They have no care that you are trying to earn a living and i get rid.
@kevdubbleyou no arguments from me there, we would have to up the prices if we couldn't work due to rain or customers skipping all the time. Only good thing with heavey rain is you get calls about gutter clears
Problem is once the customers know you sometimes dont come in the rain they start to text you saying , think were skip this one due to the weather dont accept it i have got rid of customers just for doing this . Your all year round service and should be making the sAme in rain or shine 🤟
That is very true but when it is really heavy rain we find it is not worth it. The van gets messed up in the cab and we get drenched. Heavy rain and strong gusts are just horrible to work in when it is all day.
@@CrystalCleanWindows agree mate but where I am it usually passes at some point. 👍 There a company near me with nearly 10 vans and they never have rain days or ice days they just get it done
@@steelwindowcleaningltd5986 the weather is a pain when it stops you working for sure, I hate not working. When you do get a days work in with the weather being funny you feel like you got one over. I hate sitting in the van waiting for the weather to improve when you know there is something else you could be getting on with lol
I only do four day weeks to have overflow days but often im working 5 days the next week to recover its hard but hang in there it will get better but its been a rubbish year with rain .
That’s not a bad idea 4 day week leaving a day free for overflow work. I can understand that you have worked many of those overflow days. As like you say this year has not been the best weather wise. Farmers have had a bad time too
It’s up to the individuals if they work or not, as post people still delivery the mail in all weathers and so do I keep cleaning in all weathers unless it’s a hurricane and I tell the customer before I take them on I be working in rain and that how I structure the business. This sort of weather sort people out from the rest and I am hardy than soft 😁
I try to work what ever the weather (mainly because of the bank balance) but like you when it’s bad no point. I always try to think from the customers view as well as mine. Good to point out about working in the rain from the start.
It’s a pain with the weather isn’t it. The rain doesn’t make any difference to the outcome but sometime we wonder what the customers must be thinking. I always try and go to work first thing and if the weather turns bad I often go home and wait it out as I’m normally local. At least you got it done in the end.
It can be a struggle at times to make the right decision as the weather forecast is not always right. I'd say it is the only job where you can get it wrong and no one complains!
Some heavy rain days you just can't work of course but many rainy days you can but it's always worrying what the customers will say! You do get comments - but they soon moan when you are late ! I think you have to train the customers that some days their clean may be on a rainy day - some offer rain guarantee
Completely agree I work in all weathers if the customers ever complain I say you have me on days like today so I still exist as a business become the summer
Most expect me not to turn up when it is bad but know i will always turn out if the weather is not that bad. Some even appreciate it that you are out in the drizzle as they need the windows cleaning. You get such a varied type of customer.
We try but heavy rain or strong winds we find being rural it's not worth it. The strong winds do get the windows dirty when it is dry and the grit gets blown on to the wet glass.
Its all about the expectations from the start. Get them educated that rain does not affect the outcome and carry on as normal when it rains. Only time its an exception is when its pouring down rain where you are gonna get soaked no matter what waterproof clothing you are wearing. If all windies did this across the UK it would eventually become a norm to see windies cleaning in the rain using wfp bar really bad weather conditions. Problem is a lot of older generation of windies find it hard to clean windows in the rain as they have the same old perception as the customers that rain is no good to clean in and looks 'unprofessional'.
All very true and great points. I sometimes find one half of a married couple says no while the other on says yes. So sometimes i know who to approach LOL
Not a good start to the month hopefully rest of the month is better. How do you battle the weather?

Thank you, like you say it is a fine balance. The bank account tends to have the last word.
Had the odd time ive cried off in the rain - then popped to the shops only to pass a another window cleaner working away !
When that happens you often feel you could have made the wrong choice. Making the right call sometimes can be as hard as quoting!
