- Episode 146 (we got the number right) covers the subject of ADHD and racing and intrusive thoughts. As usual, Alex the Psycho.......education Monkey delivers the evidence behind the subject, all three ADHD Adults give their personal reflections, and then 'Just The Tip' covers some top tips about IQ-type intelligence. 'What has James lost, forgotten or mislaid this week?" returns with Alex depressingly 5-1 up the year, The Metrics Intern continues telling us about the cities we have listeners in and Alex reads the usual 'definitely real' correspondence. Mrs ADHD is a backwards Johnny 5, Alex does East 17 (ding) and James wasn’t listening to the psychoeducation bit...
Over on Discord, we have a '12 Days of Christmas' prize winning competition going on where you can win (checks notes) some prizes!
Is the fact that my brain translated the words racing thoughts to racist thoughts an intrusive thought?
Wow Slo Mo Sam! Hope you're OK ✌️
I also listen to smooth jazz on Alexa to stop racing thoughts when I am trying to sleep.
Does it work???
@@theadhdadults sometimes. It's not foolproof. Better than music with vocals
This was in my head at 3am I had to write it down so I could go to sleep only to wake up with the last bit of it in my head only when it was all written down could I sleep!
Thoughts
My uncomfortable sea of thoughts
wash over me in waves of destruction.
Restraint is not an option,
they come tumbling down,
breaking on the shore of life.
Some are ripples,
thoughts, thrown into life's still waters
forever growing and reaching out,
each one keeping its distance trying not to disturb
the balance of the dance.
Another wave,
this time reaching upwards
longing guidance from the heavens
but as it catches the sun and shimmers,
it once again crashes downwards
and rolls along the sand,
foaming, bubbling,
with more thoughts, before edging backwards
keeping pace with the ever-growing stream of endless imaging,
pictures merging with pictures,
words upon words,
growing and building into a crescendo
of endless thought waves
looking for the last eureka moment
that will hold back the tide.
Tap tap thoughts
rhythmically evoking songs of times of pleasure,
of youth and carefree moments.
Memories that come and go washing over this shell of bones
that holds my life together.
Never stopping the waves
they come not caring the outcome
but knowing their work on the mind is ongoing,
backwards, forwards,
never in straight lines,
always new but connected,
an ever flowing ebb.
Sometimes I think there is nothing outside the thoughts,
it's all,
it's infinite,
it's who I am.
Oh no! It’s a powerful piece of writing, such a shame it lingered in your brain! ❤️
Hi James! Could you elaborate on why you think Sam starting a story in the middle is related to her autism too, not just her ADHD?
It’s very hard to disentangle in AuDHD but Sam’s level of disorganised thoughts and how they manifest themselves in some of the many thoughts ‘popping out’ without her even knowing *may* be due to either. I might be wrong, but it often happens at times of sensory overload/burnout which is characteristic of some people with ASD 🧛🏻♂️
Okay, this is going to sound like some scam thing, but I promise it isn't. Balloon head, vampires, top tippex etc (to prove I'm a human, not some bot!). I was diagnosed with OCD a while ago, and the only thing that helped me with intrusive thoughts was OCD Recovery UK with the coach Robert Bray. There's loads of free You Tube content. The idea is that rather than reaching for comfort and reassurance (the worst thing you can do for intrusive thoughts) you fully lean into the fear, and stop seeking reassurance because that keeps you trapped in a loop. It would be so interesting to get him as a guest on the podcast, because he really knows his stuff and could offer a much different perspective and understanding on this subject.
We’ve just recorded an OCD episode!
Ace! Dead excited for that! X
