Another consideration on Galactic Ambition is that in the future we might get some ability/effect that might prevent damage on base for a turn/phase (entire phase feels too much), or maybe a sort of shield?

I'm refining a "Hopeful Han" ECL deck with 18 space units (vehicles) that won most of my games last week that was originally based on Wedge, Falcon, and Pirated Starfighter as a repeatable "Open Fire" for the space lane to protect Strafing Gunships, but it has since evolved to rely more on U-Wing Reinforcement (as early as turn 3) and You're My Only Hope (where I've gotten turn 1 Wedge), and so Pirated Starfighter has unfortunately left the deck, but that means I've started using Vanguard Ace, so 3x of your list. It is a bit odd how many Ground vehicles have Ambush already, so most of my Ground features Sentinel, Reinforcement Walker, 7-drops for U-Wing, or Hope support like 5-drops and R2. I'm even considering Inferno Fours to grab alongside Wedge during U-Wings.
I think people don't realize the other application of the card is to cheat the aspect penalty. For instance, if you're playing red blue inquisitior you could use this to play General Krell who would normally cost you 9 because of aspect penalty. Now it comes in for 7 and only does 5 damage to your base. Now I'm not saying that it's good haha, but I think that's a commonly missed use case for Galactic Ambition that may also become more relevant in the future

Just a note on Wedge, and maybe you took this into account, but most ships, if not all, have the Vehicle trait too. I think there may be something there, but I think we need a leader that deploys to space to make this card a bit more worthwhile.
