🇰🇷 Huge apology for calling Oldboy Japanese! What a mistake! I’m sorry! I had written South Korean on my notes but somehow messed up. This happens when I do everything myself, I apologise if I offended anyone.
We all make mistakes.
CRIKEY Already forgotten 👌🤘🏼🤘🏼
😊watched rosemary's baby on line years such a great film
Talking about children's films that are creepy, as a kid I was terrified of The Witches (1990) but as an adult... I'm still absolutely terrified by The Witches.
Same! When ya think about it, Roald Dahl movies & books fit this list pretty well all around lol!!!
You want to see disturbing watch the garbage pail kids movie 🤣
I don't understand how you only have 67k subs. You're one of my new favorite channels.
aww thank you Shelby!
The Return to Oz was truly terrifying, and still is!
The Return To Oz terrified me as a child. Dorothy getting electroshock therapy, the wheelies, and the queen with all the heads that she could switch out really scared me. I still loved the movie, but, I slept with a night light on the first couple weeks after seeing this movie for the first time.
I love that movie!
It's amazing. A good movie for kids who want to mature a bit earlier than usual. :)
I really thought that was going to be in her list
Coraline and James and the Giant Peach are both directed by the same director, Henry Selick
YAS!
@@spookyastronauts James and the giant peach classic Tim burton movie saw it on VHS with my family in 1997 I was 13 worst Tim burton movie was Charlie and the chocolate factory wasn't like the original movie 🥳
A children’s film that terrified me was actually a Disney Channel original movie called Don’t Look Under the Bed. It centered around a young girl, her imaginary friend that returns, and the boogeyman. I couldn’t sleep for days after
One blumhouse movie I highly recommend is hush. It used sound amazingly and love how it picked up quickly.
I didn’t think it was underrated? It was a pretty well known release, especially because of Flanagan
@@spookyastronauts ya but I still feel it didn't get as much attention as it deserves. I loved this movie lol
Underrated might be a semi-speculative categorical, but "Hush" IS one of those gems that will be discovered and re-discovered forever and ever amen. Sorta like "Wait Until Dark" with the ageing Audrey Hepburn which saw such a tiny distribution that the poor-ish critical reviews tanked the box office at the initial release and now soar above 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and near 81 on Metacritic.
@@MichaelFrazierTube agreed📼
A weird arthousey movie I think would fit on the last list is "Climax" directed by Gaspar Noe....hellofamovie!!!
I actually thought that movie would be a lot worse than it was.
If you like Gasper Noe, check out his other films ,they are much better than Climax in my opinion. "I stand alone " " Into the void" and " Ireversable ".
@@davidseriff711 those films are very good and much more shocking than climax.
@@skilla4hire yes, I was very disappointed in Climax.
@@davidseriff711 Super letdown. Especially a movie called Climax. Lol
Thank you for mentioning The Hole, it's one of my favorite films and no one ever talks about it!
I agree! it was so oddly disturbing
When the guy opens the can of coke lmao
The Strangers was based on a 2006 french film called THEM. I recommend it.
It may be coming up in a list ;)
Those kids were creepy and inhuman I was screaming through out the entire film
@@spookyastronauts Them is particularly interesting given the context of French victims (capitalist, indulgent, Western) in Romania (fmr Communist, poor, "backward") - it was a layer that I missed in the US version.
@@spookyastronauts if you want a really disturbing film watch the wall 😊
The Strangers is not actually based on Them (Ils), according to the director of Strangers it draws the inspiration from Manson Tate murders and also break-ins from the director’s own childhood neighborhood. Also it has a really big feeling of drawing some things from the Keddie cabin murders.
So pleased to hear you mention “The Hole “ and “Coherence “ both great films! Love the channel and recommendations thanks so much from 🇬🇧 fan ❤️
Watership Down was terrifying as a kid. I watched when I was 11 at Primary school and who ever thought that was a kids film....
Wow James and the giant peach always freaked me out as a kid too, haven’t thought about that in forever.
I appreciate all the recommendations but I'm running out of space on my list here Emma.
😂! EXACTLY!! 💀🦇🕸🕷👻🖤
Hahaha, me too! I got letterboxd to keep it all straight because my handwritten lists were getting out of control
It's k emma you're super awesome 🙂
So many films to catch up on!
I had to comment to say: thank you so much for all your videos. Unlike every other UA-cam I've watched (so far) you are the only one I've seen who tries to suggest non typical horror films that are really good. I have had a great time going through your videos to get good movie recommendations. But yeah with that said I am most definitely subbed and will be sticking around for more great movie suggestions in the future.
Also love the reviews lol.
- INSIDE (2007) is another good home invasion movie, that also manages to be very gory.
- Nattevagten (1994, aka the original version of The Nightwatch) haunted me during my childhood. A good psychological pick and very underrated.
- Why not go classic with The Haunting (1963) for another good psychological experience?
- Frontier(s) (2007) is a hell of a harsh gore fest.
- Shudder (2004) is one I’ll always recommend. Scary and disturbing.
Thanks for another list of deep dives to keep us on our toes. I looked at your Letterbox lists. And one thing struck me. You will be very pleasantly surprised when (not if) you dig further into the 70's and before. I assume at the rate at which you have so diligently excavated the 80's and beyond, eventually you'll be drawn further into the roots. Meanwhile I appreciate being filled in on so many 'recent' titles that have slipped below the radar.
(By the way Emma I just did a philosophical review of I'm Thinking Of Ending Things. You might find it worthwhile.)
Love your recommendation videos Emma! Scary kids movies for me would include The Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, and Spirited Away (in addition to the two you mentioned). I'm going to try to find Lyle, which I've never heard of.
I LOVEEEE Labyrinth!
Thank you so much Emma!! As always, your recommendations don't disappoint! Also wow I just saw you're almost at 67k !! That`s awesome, so proud of you!
Thank you so much!
Hey Emma! Love that I stumbled across your channel, always looking to check out new horror flicks. Great stuff!
Congratulations on hitting 67k subscribers. That is freaking awesome 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
Great video Emma and some fab recommendations - will add some of these to my watch list
Movies made for kids that terrified me as a little kid when they came out: The Witches and Secret of Nyhm.
Oh yes!
Vacancy is probably my favorite thriller/horror movie. (not counting classics, like the shinning, the thing, or any other supernatural scary films) The tension feels so real to me, because this could actually happen in real life. And the dynamic between the couple, really makes me root for them.
Thanks Emma! Those rec's were wonderful and I completely agree about James and the Giant Peach (most Roald Dahl adaptations give me the creeps).
Great recommendations! Glad I found your channel.
love these videos! definitely got a few more to add to the list
Thank you!
Just started watching your chanel , I love it because sometimes I feel like I watched all the good thrillers , you're underrated
Also , it would be great if you expand to crime/ mystery thrillers
Love these Em. Thank you.
Very cool recommendations #spookyastronauts Never a bad one & shocked that The Untamed flew by me. Will be seeing it later today, 👌🤘🏼🤘🏼
I have some recommendations:
Creepy children: Mon Mon Mon Monsters, The Children, & Good Night Mommy
Foreign Horror: The Lure & The Rusalka
LGBTQ: Rift (2017)
Home Invasion: They’re Inside
Creepy animation: Monster House & 2 anime series called Another & Corpse Party
Recent Gory: Impetigore
Dark Psycho Thriller: I agree w/ Emma, Coherence is the best
Similar to Ready or Not: Dead Body
Weird Arthouse: Evolution (2016)
Happy Watching!
A great home invasion movie, imo, that no one ever really mentions is If I Die Before I Wake. The cover art alone freaks me out 😂. Muse Watson who played Ben Willis in the I Know What You Did Last Summer movies plays one of the invaders. I'd recommend this movie, if you haven't already seen it.
Now that you have shudder, you should do a list about their best movies that we need to watch. Always enjoy your content!
I’d love Shudder recommendations too! There’s a lot on there and it can be hard to know what’s worth watching
Remember content is still different in each country
I almost thought you were going to say Where the Dead Go To Die as the animated film that’s meant for kids but ended up being terrifying lol.
oh no!
Okay couldn't agree more about James and the Giant Peach. Absolute favorite, but now mouths filled with teeth/circle mouths terrrrifyyy me and I've decided the fear stems from that shark!!
Very awesome list you've got there. I absolutely loved Vacancy. Didn't care too much for the sequel. Eden Lake has been on my list for some time now. I think it is about time to give it a go. Curve looks very interesting. I'm adding it to my list.
Thank you for another awesome video. I appreciate all the hard work that you do for us 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Thank you
I love your videos... subscribed a few weeks ago.. you're adorable !! and I've found some great new movies thanks to you !! :)
Thanks
I watched Coraline when I was in 1st grade and got traumatised for months. It's one of my favorite movies now, but I hated it as a child
For a more recent "Strangers" type movie, "The Rental" might scratch that itch. Also, "They're Inside" is a decent enough found footage "Strangers" type flick.
Please suggest more names
Great recommendations, Emma! “Cooties” is actually one of the most underrated horror movies I’ve seen, and I truly enjoyed it. “Vacancy” is one of those as well.
Yeah Cooties was awesome!
I also enjoyed “Panic Room” when I was 11 years old, which it is one of the best David Fincher movies.
Here's a recommendation for you! skjhd sorry if you've heard this one before buuut, what about Killer Klowns from Outer Space? It's an amazingly fun little goofy film from 1988.
it was created as a passion project by The Chiodo Brothers who have special effects credits in some VERY classic films such as Critters, Team America World Police, and the claymation within Pee-Wee's Big Adventure! The creatures are so fun and unique and it's overall just a super fun watch.
Dude killer Klowns is one of my favs 👏🏼👏🏼😊
Great recommendations! Emma, you are a horror human encyclopedia!
haha i try! thank you!
Trying not to come off too “precious” or whatever but there was a film trailer i saw on TV when i was just a kid... ive wondered what it was in the back of my mind for almost as long as i can remember... turns out it was the film YOU just recommended - Vacancy. So thank you Emma for FINALLY helping me find the film I’ve wanted to see since I was like 9 years old
I think it’d be cool if you did a video about animated horror, like Coraline, James and the Giant Peach, Monster House, etc.
Have you heard of the new movie Freaky? It is a horror comedy about a high school girl and a serial killer switching bodies. Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton are the two main characters, and, it is from Blumhouse. It is supposed to come out in November. Looks great, imo.
Yep! Seen the trailer everywhere
@@spookyastronauts I would have shared the trailer with you, but, it has some spoilers in it. What trailer doesn't, nowadays? Looks great, imo. I love a good horror comedy. I think this will be rated R. You never know. It is from Blumhouse, and, they did an amazing job with Happy Death Day,and that was PG13, and I loved it. We'll have to wait and see.
For your Creepy kids category, I'd like to recommend Die weisse band, or The white ribbon in English, by Michael Haneke. More a thriller/drama, but it kept me awake for a few nights.
I recommend Love Massacre (1981), a arthouse Hong Kong slasher film.
It was awesome to see "The Hole" recommended! I use to watch that movie all the time. I can't seem to find it anywhere now, though. :(
I actually saw Gummo, Oldboy, You're Next, and another film in this list. I can't believe it! And I can't believe someone recommended Gummo....somehow we owned that on VHS when I was a kid....
yes! thanks for mentioning The Hole, this movie is such gem but i never hear anything about it
i love your lists!! you always have such great recommendations!! thank you so much for the time you take to make your content!
The remake of Funny Games is actually shot-for-shot remake so it’s basically the same with different actors and language, both films are exquisite!
Opening “Oldboy” is not Japanese” comments streak
True dat. Also the rest of The Vengeance Trilogy would fit that reccomendation
Aw snap, shit happens tho. Great Film, THE REMAKE IS WHAT IS JACKED UP.
'Oldboy' is a great flick . I can see the confusion as It is based on a on the "Japanese manga" of the same name . The film was a huge international success and went on to win various awards including the Grand Prix of the Jury at the 57th Cannes Film Festival awards ceremony :)
Rob Knapp I actually read the manga the difference between the movie and the source material is peculiar to say the least
Wait, so can I add that the girl in "Raw" wasn't "tempted" by meat, she was pretty much forced to eat it. "Tempted" means to think "ohhh, I'd love some of that, but I really shouldn't..." which was 100% NOT what happened.. Or shall I open a separate comment streak. Don't want to tread on your thang....
"The Vigil" was also released in movie theaters here in Germany. But only for a few weeks.
Have you ever seen the movie The House By The Cemetery? I just watched that for the first time last night, and really enjoyed it. This movie is about a family that moves into an old house by a cemetery, and strange things start happening. That's all I'll say without spoiling. It is directed by Lucio Fulci.
Thanks for doing what you do!!!
Some really interesting recommendations there. Thank you :) I quite like Rob Zombie's flicks but the best thing about his work are [vale] Sid Haig and John 5. Cheers!
I highly recommend Summer of '84 if anyone is looking for a good mystery/horror.
Your videos are always great ✨
Thanks for the Curve recommendation was a decent movie when theres not lot out at the moment
i read coralline when i was a child and was so freaked out by the button eyes that i never watched the film when it came out... so yeah there’s that
I was 5 when my parents rented the 1978 adaptation of Watership Down, thinking it was a fun movie about cute little rabbits. Boy, were they wrong! That movie gave me nightmares!
For kids but super scary is The Witches!! Also Roald Dahl. Loved it but terrified me as a kid
I loveee it!
I was jut going to post this as well. I remember watching as a kid and it scared the crap out of me. a lot of Roald Dahl books are really creepy. So no doubt the film adaptaions will highlight that.
Omg I loved The Untamed but I don’t hear people talking about it. So happy you recommend it !
All i can think of is the poster for "Wild Hearts Cant Be Broken" whenever i hear that title mentioned, maybe it has something to do with that?
Curve has probably the sexiest psycho in recent memory. I'd like to think I wouldn't pick him up but I couldn't promise that.
So glad you brought up The Hole, no one talks about that one.
James and the Giant Peach scared the crap out of me as a kid. I saw it in the cinema!
great video emma i always enjoy your recommendations videos.
Thank you Mark!
@@spookyastronauts any time
Under the shadow is a freakin' masterpiece. One of the best horror I have ever seen.
Ernest Scared Stupid is another great horror film for kids. Classic!
Thanks so much, Emma! I will be checking out the recommendations ASAP. 🖤 🔪
Never heard of The Hole or Bully, but they’re now on my watchlist!
The Hole is great!
Bully it´s really good! it´s based on the infamous Marty Puccio murdering his friend Bobby Kent.
Bully is on amazon so I’ll watch that soon for sure but I can’t find The Hole anywhere! I’m wondering if I need to change my origin country from the US on my laptop to find it...?
Enjoy!
The Hole was extremely good! I initially watched for Thora B. back when it came out, but all did exceptionally well! Would love to hear your update once you've watched!
james and the giant peach still kind of terrifies me. the rhino!!!!!
I know right!
Have you seen Return to Oz? It terrified me as a kid, and several scenes still do. I watched is several times as a kid too 🤦♀️
These are my favorite videos of yours! Would love if you made them Ionger!
Unfortunately with a full time job I don’t have time to double the whole process :(
A movie that scared and traumatized me as a kid was Pinocchio. I found the whole thing and animation style really disturbing and I still think its scarier than any horror movie I've seen. Is this just me? Lol
I definitely will be checking out Curve Emma. That's look it's pretty good.
Hope you enjoy!
Honestly the scariest show I have ever seen is The Exorcist The Series season 1. I do not scare easy, i have watch scary movies since i was little. Freddy K and Chucky are almost like childhood friends. But I was scared.
Great list. I really need to find a the vigil
Brilliant, thanks Emma, I haven't seen either of those creepy kid horrors, so I'll enjoy! 😜 Job is going really well, thank you 😊 Just don't tell the authorities I'm addicted to horror movies.... 😂
haha!
James & The Giant Peach freaked me out as a kid lol
one I would suggest for "Dark Drama" / Coming of Age, is "Super Dark Times" on Netflix
I believe Eden Lake is among those you only find every so often. That seems to stand apart from most while being unforgettable as well.
On separate note; Referring to movies meant for kids? Ferngully immediately came to mind w/Tim Curry's Hexxus that seemed bit dark for rated G?
Uninhabited 2010 Australian horror film.....a must watch !!!
This may be a ton of extra work so feel no pressure, but for the movies could you put the streaming platforms they're available on (if applicable) in the video next to their names? I just like having lists of what movies to watch on which platforms, and then movies I need to stream or rent. Thank you and loveeeee the content!
The issue with this is that they are available on different platforms in different countries. And since I’m in Australia mostly my streaming platforms are different.
spookyastronauts ah that’s so true sorry for not thinking of it! I’m Canadian and I definitely find the platforms very different than other places - but thank you for responding :)
yay, my watch list just got a lot more exciting!
Greetings from the UK. Can you review the 2008 UK horror film THE CHILDREN? It's a very underrated child horror film with excellent performances, gore and well-directed tension.
YES!
As soon as I saw “horror movies that involve children” Little Monsters was the first one that came to mind. Awesome movie!
I don't know if you can or want to answer this but should I get myself a Shudder subscription now or should I wait a few weeks because you'll become an affiliate and my sub through you will help support your channel?
If you like Ready or Not, and You're Next...check out Broil. It's a similiar-ish setup and concept, but takes some twists and turns the other two don't. Some tighter editing could have saved a few moments where it does flounder a bit, but it's still an entertaining watch nonetheless.
Also: for some b movie comedy horror, I have to say give "Uncle Peckerhead" a chance. Canadian indie; low budget but they make it count. If you need something silly to watch that you don't want to take too seriously and still get some splatter...put this in your queue.
Since I read a lot of Horror novels this year and navigate my way through the literature jungle via some great Horror Booktube channels I NEED to do a recommendation of a absolutely hidden gem from 1991 which just now made my Top 10 of the scariest Horror books of all time: Naomi´s Room by Jonathan Aycliffe! Don´t get fooled by the title or the description...this one was pure nightmare fuel and I even had to check behind my shower curtains after reading at night! I finished it in only two sittings and it is only around 200 pages...everyone who wants to get seriously freaked out on Halloween season and has some hours left to read should check this one out...it starts dark and menacing and it only follows that path until the bitter end.
Sorry, had to do this urgent suggestion, I´m still thrilled by this bleak little masterpiece :-)
the woman (2011) about a feral cannibal woman held captive
Yes love the Perfection, Raw, Hole and the Vengeance Trilogy but others in there that I need to check out hey Emma have you seen the new Horror thriller the Owners? It star Maisie Williams and Slyvester McCoy it's like a British Don't Breath but there are a lot of differences that is a recommendation from me to you.
Yes I’ve seen it! I reviewed it for my patreons last week
@@spookyastronauts ah right I missed that one.
this series is awesome !!
Thank you!
I love your energy in this one I don't know why but your eyes seem different 😜 did you smoke before you made this one 🤣
Nope just the way I look I don’t smoke
Glad I'm not the only one who liked both Funny Games. Great List!
They are very identical!
@@spookyastronauts honestly think the remake is better. I'm a big Michael Pitt fan though. So might be why lol. But yeah.. this is one of the very few where the remake is better imo. The ring is another. And The Departed. Those are the three i can think of
Hi Emma , The 1997 Funny Games is an absolute masterpiece. Skip the 2007 one.
your hair looks pretty
There is a question i forgot to ask - What is your favourite horror movie featuring clowns?
00:03 is there any full length version of your opening score?
and what been said at the end? 00:07 "collectivity"?
It’s just a sound bite not a song
P;ease tell me what platforms I can find the first two films on...
