Phylicia Rashad, continue to be the light that shines to inspire people, of all skin colors, to believe in the strength of the self. The strength of self that can be a glory to your heritage and your family and your experience, that multiplies through grace to each person you touch.
phylicia rashad is such an inspiration to me. i really do look up to her as a role model and a teacher. her words are just inspiring, beautiful, heart felt and it lights up my spirit. i love her so much and may God continue to bless and keep her.
STAR!! We know her TV work, but this beautiful woman is a being of the theatre. I saw her work in this role and it was extraordinary, specifically, her acting beats at the end of Act one should be studied for years to come. I will never forget this extraordinary performance. This Tony was well deserved the first black woman to be bestowed with this honor. I will always be filled with effulgence because of this performance. BRAVA!
I had the privilege of seeing her on Broadway in this role. Wonderful to see her win this award. Well deserved! And, what a beautiful acceptance speech.
MickeyDs14 Obviously you didn’t “look this up before writing your comment.” Ms. Carroll’s win was for best actress in a MUSICAL in 1962, while Ms. Rashad’s win was the FIRST for a black actress in a PLAY as I stated.
Only 4 Black women have won Lead Actress in a Play 😒 beginning in 2004 with the LEGEND Phylicia Rashad and continuing with these LEGENDS: - Viola Davis (2010, Fences) - Cicely Tyson (2013, Trip to Bountiful) - Audra McDonald (2014, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill) - 2020 sees Audra (Frankie and Johnny) and Joaquina Kalukango (Slave Play) vying for Tonys in this category!
The speech was good except for the part about teachers who want to be teachers. Most people become teachers because it is something that they love to do. Very few people become teachers simply because it is a job. She could have left that lit bit of nonsense out of the speech.
Your comment is what's nonsense. Your comment also excudes ignorance. I've had teachers who have said out of there mouths "I'm just here to get my coins...not to babysit". There are so many teachers who don't genuinely care about there students because I've encountered many. So what she said fits.
The joy on Debbie Allen's face!!!
She's so eloquent, it's like she's performing when she speaks. Amazing lady with ageless beauty.
Look at the rapper and media mogul P Diddy's face while he claps in the audience. He too is a fan of the icon Phylicia Rashad !!
ExclusiveLM
aww look at her proud sister, momma, and daughter! I'm surprised she hasn't won more awards at different award ceremonies.
wow. what a moment in history. Sanaa's reaction and diddy's were priceless as well as the audiences response. poise unmatched
Such a BEAUTIFUL, classy lady who gave a heartfelt acceptance speech that deserved an award alone. Well deserved. I admire her.
Adam Efimoff since then: Viola, Cicely, and Audra :D

You can't get any classier or more beautiful in spirit than this woman. She is amazing!
Yeah...it's so classy to support a convicted rapist.
@@o-o-o-ozempic she is not it was bill Cosby
Dignity. That speech was nothing less than dignity, class, and grace personified. May Mrs. Rashad not be among the last of such a people.
She truly is a class act!
Still one of THE best acceptance speeches I've ever heard.
Starting with the regal way she walks up those stairs! Brilliant and beguiling woman!
Wow!!! That woman is pure class!!!
She could recite "Twinkle twinkle little star" and still be mesmerizing.
That's what I'm saying 👑
She doesn't age; she transcends!

Claire Huxtable. DAMN! Love her
Well deserving 🙋🏾❤️
Never understood why ......she never got an Emmy or golden globe.. such an extraordinary actress!
Racism
Bill Cosby is to blame for her not winning a well deserved Emmy or Golden Globe. It was not racism.
BEAUTIFUL🌹🌹🌹👍😊
I love her.
so beautiful
First black actress to win best actress in a play.
No she wasn’t. Diahann Carroll was for “No Strings.” Did you even look this up before writing your comment!?

Hayes Moses My apologies. I misspoke. I didn’t realize the Tony’s considered musicals and plays to be two separate categories! ✌🏽
MickeyDs14 I’ve misspoken often so I understand. Lol! Appreciate it.
QUEEN
This is how you give acceptance speech. Phylicia Rashad all day every day.
Grace!
Love her!!!! Class act!
The queen mother for all ages ! She commands respect and attention!!!

Has she aged a day?
They made the smart move and NOT play her off
Why was P.Diddy clapping so hard? Commenting in 2024
Where was Bill Cosby
Please to thee xx767.….
She could do ASMR!
It's 'Swoosie' not "Susie".
