Somewhat of an obscure choice, but the riff that starts at 8:05 in Opeth's Deliverance is one of the heaviest moments because of the transition from the very quiet piano & vocal section into this absolutely massive doomy riff. The slow, lurching movement, the restrained chordal embellishments, the crack of the snare, the long fade out. Fuckin' love that shit.

I love songs like Sad But True and Domination but one of the heaviest riffs in my opinion definitely has to be I Want You (She’s So Heavy) by The Beatles, that slow 6/8 feel is so damn groovy and the fact that they play it for like 4 minutes to close the song before just stopping abruptly still gives me chills. Plus Dream Theater has confessed that song was a big influence on Pull Me Under so that’s just another reason why I love it

Ningen Isu did a song titled Heatless Scatt, after a long intro (about a minute and fifteen seconds) there is a really satisfying riff that is basically chugging through most of the song. I dig it a lot. 👍 Kings X did a bunch of heavy licks but they are sprinkled all over their albums, really tight stuff with drums, guitar and bass all hitting together. And one last favorite is the rhythm (and lead) on Pink Floyd’s Pigs (Three different ones), face melting chord progression! Oh, and Stricken by Disturbed hits hard too… ok, I’ll quit now.

Aight so, controversial take: Sad But True is not only not the heaviest riff in the world, it's not even the heaviest riff in Metallica's discography. That title goes to The Thing That Should Not Be, as said by Jason Newstead himself during their infamous 1989 Seattle concert.
Sad But True sounds practically happy in comparison, and also features some of Lars' laziest drumming. TTTBNB is just so ominous and doomy, makes you shiver and frown like nothing else.
