CRUISING French canals to the Med via Le Petit Rhône River and a Bull Fight with a difference

- Ep 26: Sailboat Cruising through the centre of France in a yacht is a wonderful experience, but being immersed in French culture and different ways of life makes the journey a real exploration of fascinating people, places and history. We're not sure if Course Camarguaise, which is where men avoid being caught by a bull in a ring, is a good thing. Attempts to ban it have failed because the bulls are the stars of the show, not the matadors as in Spanish Bull Fighting. No animals get hurt in this video.
Options is so close to the sea, we can almost smell it - but we're not taking the easy route.

Watched this video the day you released it just watched it again, loved it am I to assume no more until you return next year? I’ll have to watch all again. Much love god bless.
Hi Steve, thanks for watching and stay tuned for the next one currently being edited when time permits when not sailing or exploring 😀
The odd planes are fire bombers; they will do a touch 'n go on the river and fill up with water, then they'll go drop it somewhere. You will see more of them on the Med, be sure to look at your charts for the symbol that indicates a zone is used as a fire bomber water landing spot, and make sure you're not in the middle of it when they're active because best case scenario you'll get an ear full on VHF...
Absolutely spot on - we learnt so much about these and have seen so many since too. Avoiding the seaplane areas is a wise decision. Thanks for watching and commenting - keep em coming!

Notice the bull came back into the ring? He knows the game and is very well taken care of. If you look at it, the bull always wins. Same as American bull riding.
Yes the Camargue Taureau roam the flatlands alongside the famous white horses. There are bulls which become famous in their own right!
Thanks for watching and hope you’ve subscribed to watch some more fun coming up. Stay safe
Best wishes

Pity you skipped Arles, Its a lovely city with the famous Van Gogh connections and Roman ruins. We'll be going there and further down the Rhône as our draft is too great for your route. I was invited to a Camargue bullfight near Nîmes but not my cuppa tea. Funny eating Japanese in France but the best Japanese I've ever had was in Rio and the best Chinese in France!
Hi Again - WE visited Arles by car on our way back home and loved it!
Дед молодец 👍
Thank you young man - safe and exciting adventure to you my friend - always embrace the impossible as a new journey into the new unknown with a thought and preparation for the unexpected 😀
Спасибо ! Приезжай в Россию ! В Сочи есть хорошие порты для вас . плюс у нас много шлюзов )) вам тут понравится .
I recently bought a Southerly 115 MK3, great Yacht and great videos, did you do the entire French Canals with the keel down or up?
Hi Glen, congratulations on joining the Southerly 115 crew 🥳 we hope you have many wonderful sailing adventures. Our keel was mostly up on the canals and 1/4 down on the deeper rivers. Without chines on the hull the boat may “slew” a tad, so a little part of keel protruding reduces this and improves steering. The huge advantage the swing keel has is the ability to go into the shallower inland waters or closer to the beach - or beach! Avoid high sandbanks on a falling tide after high springs though 🤣🤪 as you will se in our early episode!
Thanks for watching and commenting
Stay safe

Ps. When do you hope to start your canal journey?
@sailingoptions , probably next year, I am currently getting use to the boat by going up and down the Medway 😀
The responsibility for lot of the N roads were handed to the departments several years ago and became D roads.
I didn’t know that - thanks Graham for the insight.

The aeroplanes are used to fight fires
Thank you for watching Chris and yes you’re right, watch on and we learn about them too 👍
They’re not a thing in our world at home, this is why we love travelling 😀
Rue de l'Ancienne Poste is most likely the road of the former post office.
Graham, you’re probably spot on! Thanks for you watching and joining in. Stay safe 👍
