Really cool setup. For those looking to do this, be careful. The Shockwave gets around ATF rules by its very specific construction which classifies it as a "firearm" and not a short-barreled shotgun. By removing the raptor grip and putting that stock on there that exception no longer applies and it becomes illegal unless you do the paperwork and steps to register it with the ATF as an SBS.
@jaybee6505 it's illegal. You cannot modify the shockwave. It's not a pistol. Therfore you cannot use a pistol brace. Believe me. I've been over this a million times. I did this same modification. I've talked to multiple firearms dealers.
You are the man. I was planning on shelling out for a Black Aces Quad Rail but I really love your setup’s simplicity while still improving on the Shockwave’s overall design. I’m sold.
The quality difference between the Mossberg shockwave, and the black aces is a big difference. Mossberg’s build quality is way above. I own both, and the black aces barrel is way thinner along with the receiver.
Great review! I used the same SBM-4 components and Crimson Trace Laser saddle (Green Laser). For the ammo holder I went a GG&G Model GGG-2001 5 shell holder with a forward slant position. My light is a Crimson Trace CWL-202 900 lumens fixed to the under barrel toward the front (on the right side) attached via Picatinny and GG&G Mossberg light mount. Last; but not least. I switched out the stock upper barrel with a Mossberg 22 hole ported barrel with fiber optic site to reduce recoil.
I do have the same shotgun at home and I can say that I LOVE MY MOSSBERG SHOCKWAVE 590, I made a few modifications to it and now it is a piece of art!!!
@@allthingsandmore4613 correct, installing a shoulder stock makes it no longer a "firearm." It's now legitimately classified as a shotgun with less than 18" barrel, which is a felony if not registered and tax stamped. There is some debate about whether you can install a brace on guns like the Shockwave and Tac-14. Theoretically it should be no different than installing a brace on an AR-pistol. Unfortunately pretty much all shotguns live in a weird murky territory according to US gun laws. The idea of a braced "firearm" isn't necessarily illegal (at the moment, though the ATF really wants braces to be banned) but the fact that you altered the firearm from its manufactured state with the bird's head grip could be reason enough to declare it no longer a "firearm" and get you in trouble, even if it still meets all the same criteria it did before. If you think this is stupid, you're right. It's exactly as stupid as you think it is. However, you must consider how much you are willing to risk the whims of some overzealous alphabet bois looking to bully law abiding citizens because it's an easier way to justify their existence than going after actual criminals. Is it really worth the trouble just to have an extra cool shortie scattergun instead of just buying one with an 18" barrel that you know you can put against your shoulder with no legal consequences? I am not a lawyer, I offer no legal advice and I offer no suggestions about what you should do with your gun. I'm merely pointing out the nonsense that is US gun law and the tendency of federal agencies to "interpret" a citizen's actions in the most damning and least charitable way possible.
@@herbderbler1585 Definitely not something you want to chance since the Shockwave was constructed in a very specific manner to just barely skirt ATF definitions to not be called a shotgun. If you ran into a situation where you had to use it you'd definitely not want to have to try to cook up an argument as to the legality of the weapon you're using on top of whether you were justified or not.
Good stuff. I may consider that forend. Protip: I have that same ATI sidesaddle on mine, and you can actually hold two mini shells in each loop. Up and down with no fear of them coming out.
Serious upgrades!! I've done a few, but I'm going to use the Stream light and the top rail for sure. Be blessed and keep 'em coming. You just scored another new subscriber.
This is phenomenal. Just got my shockwave 590s and pretty much plan to steal your build, lol. No heat shield is fine, plan to run a rail and red dot. Nice setup 👍
I just got my 590 Shockwave 20 gauge. How did your upgrades come out? Curious about The Streamlight foregrip. i'm hearing you need a special tool and it not fitting. Thanks
I made a strap for my hand out of paracord that goes on the bird's head grip on the shockwave and that's all I put on it. I bring my shockwave to a cheek position with the bird grip, and I'm able to shoot with little recoil and very accurately and very safely. I don't tilt my head over the bead sight, so there's no risk of the shotgun bucking me in the face or anything, it just slides along my thumb pressed against my cheek.
Good firearm for an intruder type of defense Idk bout all of the extras if some of these are legal in all state's!? Above all what a great t-shirt that's what caught my eyes as a true believer ✌️
I upgraded last month to the streetlight racker and SP tactical brace. I also have the monstrum side saddle for the shockwave(amazon). It was nice coming on here and seeing a similar set up as well as a great simple explanation and breakdown. Didn't even think I could change the pistol grip from the SB. Thanks for the info!
This gotta be the bad ass build ive seen can’t wait to purchase mine man I’ve recently bought myself a new glock 19 gen 5 and already build it now im waiting for this one and build it , and next purchase a Ar-15 and later on a mini draco
Very nice brother. I have done similar to my Shockwave. Nice watch matching the shirt. And the cross of Christ. Well put together video. Peace from Texas
Good video. I'd recommend taking a hard look at the shotgun card concept (velcro on the side of the receiver + flexible side saddle), I mounted 6 and 9 shotgun cards on a tactical shotgun and they run beautifully. Load up, shoot, reload, rip the card off and drop it, pull out another and slap it on the side of the weapon. Also you should be able to mount a picatinny rail for a reflex sight pretty easily (should be predrilled on top to take the insert screws)
Yup! The reload cards are the way to go. It allows you more versatility in ammo load outs by being able to swap cards quickly and while on the move. They also offer you a great way to carry additional ammo and replace the empty card on the receiver. If you decide to switch to the cards, spend the extra money on good velcro tape from a good company. Otherwise it will peel off to easily.
Brandon what brand and kind model of those cards did you get? Where to get them? You ought to do a video on your gun also Brandon. Thanks for the info.
And the mini shells are definitely the thing that makes the basic Shockwave a viable option. I love slinging shorty slugs with mine, and my test on ballistic gel have been pretty awesome as far as damage
I love the capacity they offer, but they are less dependable, even with the OPSol adapter. I load my own mini's and it's pretty hard to make them short enough to clear it. You can trim it a bit to allow a slightly longer shell. I make a six pellet .35cal round mini that rocks the house- WAY hotter than Aguila.
@@showproja I've actually never had even 1 problem with either Aquila or federal minis and my tacsol. Never jammed, never a failure to fire. Probably put, at this point, around 2500 of em through my Shockwave. Now, without the adapter, nothing but issues, flipped shells. Maybe I'm lucky?
Great build! Shockwave gets made fun of but it's a super fun platform. I like a lot less stuff on mine, prefer just the heat shield plus a 1 shot extension tube, and the sb brace.
Nice upgrade, gives the shockwave a nice tactical look. I really like the grip and the brace. Heatshield sights are rockin.I assume you you got the adapter for the mini shells which is going to give you more fire power without reloading. Nice video. Very informative. I think the only thing you left out was the total price of the upgrade, unless I missed it.
Since the Shockwave gets around the the short barrel limitations by being a "firearm" and not a shotgun (must have a shoulder stock), does adding the brace turn it into a illegal barrel length shotgun?? Just wondering....
I love my raptor grip wrapped with hockey stick tape. I think that stock takes away the weapon's identity, plus makes it harder to store and wield in a vehicle. You should have spent that money to opt for the green laser. It's well worth the extra bucks. It uses four batteries vs. the red's two, and green is much more visible in daylight. Also, as your wife may attest, those polymer conical bayonets are probably going to cause more problems than they solve. Love the 1000 lumen light, however!
It’s my bedside weapon, I have a AR 9 setup as my truck gun. I did ad some stipple grip tape to the raptor grip tho and it felt good. Wanted something I could put on my cheek, hence this is why I bout the brace . Thx for watching 🤙🏾
IMHO, the green laser isnt worth it. I shot my Shockwave last week in full midday sun at 20 yards with sunglasses on, and the red laser was plenty visible on the target. With the green laser, you need twice the number of batteries.
Man I love mine so far, but I’m nervous to do any mods. From a lot of videos I’ve seen if you change the stock you need a tax stamp in order to do it otherwise it’s illegal. I’m not trying to go to the range and get harassed if it is. What is your opinion on it?
How many rounds have you put through it with the heat shield on? It looks cool, but other online review of the heat shield indicate the heat shield moves - have you experienced any problems with it?
Really nice setup. I'm saving your video as an alternative setup (I'm considering the black aces tactical to keep the overall length short for home defense but I want the option to switch to a brace setup like this for hunting or whatnot).
Sorry I couldn't hear if you mentioned it over the noise my kids make. Do you have a short shell adapter in it? If not, highly recommend one if you prefer running the 1.75" shells. Short stroking under duress is easy enough and the short shells won't make less easy.
I’m definitely going to build something like this minus the brace since they’re now illegal 🙄 I’m still trying to figure out if it’s legal to just run a pistol grip
@@MrCMR901 Okay that's great to hear. Thank you for the reply by the way. Really my concern is if the sights have ever moved around on you when shooting. Also, you feel like you can sight in pretty quickly with them. I'm trying to build for home defense.
Cool build. I have a question though. Doesn't the stock change the classification and make it illegal? I would not want to catch a felony if I had to use it. Enjoyed the video.
@@MrCMR901 you might check out demolition ranches vid on the Shockwave if you get a chance, that's a super grey area, stay safe bro. ua-cam.com/video/y05LR8KHW5M/v-deo.html
With the fast turnaround nowadays, I spent the $200 dollars and made my Tac-14 a SBS. Got a 12 inch lop stock on it. Now I don't have to worry about the government changing the rules about it. 22 day turnaround for the tax stamp by the way.
Looks good. I added a side saddle to mine but it needs a light. I'm going to keep the drumstick grip though I did consider doing the same with the brace and pistol grip.
That is a beautifully done Shockwave. You did an excellent job on the upgrades. Could you please tell me approx. how much you have invested in the shotgun? I'm thinking of doing something like you did. Thanks!!! God Bless!!
@@MrCMR901 literally ordering the shit to upgrade it now the the stream light racker and SB4 furniture kit is hard to find. My only suggestion is go Velcro saddles easier to quick reload with and when it’s empty you can just rip the whole saddle off and throw another one on. If you get 7 shell Velcro saddle holder it fits perfectly in the M4 tach vest you have 45 rounds on you! Love the channel man keep up the good work
You do understand once you put the stock on it it is now a SBS. The barrel now has to be 18”. Even with your current barrel length it is not a firearm (by definition) any longer. The exception with the pistol raptor grip was made because it was still 26”. You have no problem with the ATF if you left it alone. Now you have to pay the $200 tax stamp and fill out the form 1 reclassifying for modification. It’s crazy I know. The ambiguity is on purpose by the ATF. Now they can pick and choose who they want to go after or prosecute.
It's simpler that that! Just don't alter the firearm like that and you will be okay. BATF&E made it very simple when this model came out, don't alter the firearm's overall length. Follow the KISS method.
Like Carlton response of biden train, However it might be putting a brace on a short barrel firearm, is against the law, unless you get an additional background check and pay 200 dollars tax stamp I'm a true 2A individual, shall not be infringed, In today's political climate if you shot someone in self-defense with a SBR not having "proper" paper work could get you in a lot of trouble Ck with law enforcement agencies before applying a brace to your short barrel firearm Carlton did a good job, in this video, on modifying his shotgun, that's a excellent modification Might be illegal without proper protocols
Nice video on how to kick the shockwave up a notch, and thanks for showing our OPSol Flex Adapter to run minishells. For those who are looking for info on the minishells, and for home/self defense, here is some from our extensive testing..... From a shockwave, at 8 yards, the mini buck rounds from Aguila, Challenger, and Federal all penetrate about the same. We test at 8 yards, using 2 real 3/4" sheets of plywood, 1" apart. All pellets will typically go through the first sheet, and a few from each round will go through the second. The Federal patterns tighter, since they buffer the load. For slugs, others have done a better job reviewing, but at 8 yards, they all will typically get through 4 pieces of 3/4" plywood. At distance, the Federal is the best. In birdshot, at 8 yards, Aguila is probably the best, since it uses a cup wad. At that distance, a fair amount of that 7.5 birdshot still hits with a punch. Challenger bird is a target round really, and it spreads quickly. If you want really hard hitting minis for your shotgun, get some Exotic Products minishells. They hit quite hard, and you can get 00 buck rounds. For home defense, though, may be too hot. And as always, home defense is a family effort, and the OPSol adapter with minis creates a platform most everyone can use.
Thanks, bud. I agree HD must be a family effort, but one of the most significant reasons for using minishells must surely be recoil reduction, and you didn't mention that. Would these pint-sized powerhouses be suitable for the recoil-sensitive, do you think?
@@MSM4U2POM THE MAIN REASON for our developing the adapter was the low recoil of minishells. We were working to get shotguns into the hands of our wives and daughters, and even low recoil full size shells were too much for them.
I have my shockwave set up to run mini shells also. I have a 6 shell side saddle, and two mini shells in each facing tip to tip pushed halfway down the retainer too. In total theres 12 shells on my saddle, and they are all held in there nice and firm. Only difference is the retainers on my saddle arent split like yours, so it may hold them a little tighter.
That is hands down the best shockwave build I have ever seen for sure.

Around 100 with the heat shield. Have not had any issues tbh
Nice build, even nicer house gun. Keep em coming, SAHWEET 👍
It's a "sharp" looking boomstick for sure! I love that crimson trace laser, but I changed out the safety selector so I don't think it will fit
There is an enhanced safety selector that I’ve yet to put on that supposedly has no issues
Wow bro good shit 👏 I must say this is the best setup I have seen hands down. You've inspired me now I know what I wanna do with mine
Thx for watching
@@MrCMR901 thanks for sharing sir!!!!!
Really nice setup. I'm saving your video as an alternative setup (I'm considering the black aces tactical to keep the overall length short for home defense but I want the option to switch to a brace setup like this for hunting or whatnot).
Nice, thx for watching ‼️
Sorry I couldn't hear if you mentioned it over the noise my kids make. Do you have a short shell adapter in it? If not, highly recommend one if you prefer running the 1.75" shells. Short stroking under duress is easy enough and the short shells won't make less easy.
Lol, Yes I do have the adapter . Thx for watching
What’s the name of the heat shield
Ever find out?
@@johnbrennan2055guess not
I’m definitely going to build something like this minus the brace since they’re now illegal 🙄 I’m still trying to figure out if it’s legal to just run a pistol grip
Only if it’s stockless
But out of sight out of mind..
Great vid boss! How do the sights do on the range? Something like that is EXACTLY what Im looking for
I’d say good out to about 20-25 yards maybe more but I have t tried it
@@MrCMR901 Okay that's great to hear. Thank you for the reply by the way. Really my concern is if the sights have ever moved around on you when shooting. Also, you feel like you can sight in pretty quickly with them. I'm trying to build for home defense.
This is such a nice piece. I plan on getting a Shockwave so I might have to copy some of this, lol.
U ever get a visit from the fed boys after this video? That stock makes it a sbs with no stamp.
Oohhh when I get mine I'm going to make it look exactly like yours.
Thx for watching ‼️
Cool build. I have a question though. Doesn't the stock change the classification and make it illegal? I would not want to catch a felony if I had to use it. Enjoyed the video.
It’s a “brace” but it is still a great area. I appreciate your concern and thx for watching 🙏🏾
@@MrCMR901 you might check out demolition ranches vid on the Shockwave if you get a chance, that's a super grey area, stay safe bro.

Thx for the info
That’s what I thought too ?
With the fast turnaround nowadays, I spent the $200 dollars and made my Tac-14 a SBS. Got a 12 inch lop stock on it. Now I don't have to worry about the government changing the rules about it. 22 day turnaround for the tax stamp by the way.
Looks good. I added a side saddle to mine but it needs a light. I'm going to keep the drumstick grip though I did consider doing the same with the brace and pistol grip.
Just got my new Shockwave and plan to use many of your ideas...great video!! thx
Thx for watching ‼️
Just have to say . Good job on that build. Awesome look for the 590 Shockwave. Best I've seen by far!
Much appreciated, thx for watching ‼️🙏🏾
At less than 1/2 the price of a Shockwave, why didn't you start with a Cruiser or Maverick, then begin your upgrades?
That is a beautifully done Shockwave. You did an excellent job on the upgrades. Could you please tell me approx. how much you have invested in the shotgun? I'm thinking of doing something like you did. Thanks!!! God Bless!!
Maybe like $250 -$275 . Thx for watching 🙏🏾
@@MrCMR901 Wow. that's will work for me! Thanks!!
The best shock wave build I’ve came across 🥶🥶
Much appreciated 🙏🏾, thx for watching ‼️💯💯
@@MrCMR901 literally ordering the shit to upgrade it now the the stream light racker and SB4 furniture kit is hard to find. My only suggestion is go Velcro saddles easier to quick reload with and when it’s empty you can just rip the whole saddle off and throw another one on. If you get 7 shell Velcro saddle holder it fits perfectly in the M4 tach vest you have 45 rounds on you! Love the channel man keep up the good work
Thx 💯
Aguila means "Eagle" in Spanish.
Look at the brass: a lil eagle head on there
Thx for the info
Its good to see us talk to us about firearms, good look. PDX
Thx for watching ‼️
You up in Portland OR? Beautiful state
You do understand once you put the stock on it it is now a SBS.
Nice video for us novices , thanks !.
5 people gave this video a thumbs down??? Why??? Great video!
Must be on the Joe Biden train lol
Like Carlton response of biden train,
However it might be putting a brace on a short barrel firearm, is against the law, unless you get an additional background check and pay 200 dollars tax stamp
I'm a true 2A individual, shall not be infringed,
In today's political climate if you shot someone in self-defense with a SBR not having "proper" paper work could get you in a lot of trouble
Ck with law enforcement agencies before applying a brace to your short barrel firearm
Carlton did a good job, in this video, on modifying his shotgun,
that's a excellent modification
Might be illegal without proper protocols
Yes the mini shells have very minimal recoil
@@MSM4U2POM THE MAIN REASON for our developing the adapter was the low recoil of minishells. We were working to get shotguns into the hands of our wives and daughters, and even low recoil full size shells were too much for them.
@@guillermomaguire5394 Thank you both for very definitive answers. Be safe, gentlemen.
Buy one now before ATF bans them.
I think I just found the shotgun I'm looking for. Thank you for posting this.
Once you put that stock on it you made it illegal
Not according to what I’ve read, but thx for the concern. If it is , it’s a lot of illegals out there lol
Technically it's not a stock, it is an arm brace so it is legal
Shall not be infringed
I have my shockwave set up to run mini shells also. I have a 6 shell side saddle, and two mini shells in each facing tip to tip pushed halfway down the retainer too. In total theres 12 shells on my saddle, and they are all held in there nice and firm. Only difference is the retainers on my saddle arent split like yours, so it may hold them a little tighter.
Nice
