Just real life. We are still east of the Mississippi, no desert or vast mountain scape in sight, and this is how we do it. Thanks for watching everyone!
Hi! I live east of Mississippi. This is just a friendly FYI: Park and Rides are free parking lots. They are always located adjacent to a community with bus or train transportation nearby. They are plentiful in most east coast states. They are frequently under camera surveillance and patrolled overnight by local police. Unless there’s a sign, you can sleep overnight. Also, the east coast doesn’t advertise state and national preserves held in public trust, Audubon preserves, Corp of Engineers camping, BLM or national forest sites where you can camp overnight for free. They don’t advertise because the population density on this coast is nearly equal to all the rest of the country. If it is advertised, it will get too much foot traffic. But you can buy paper maps for all of these places. And there are tons of these sites. I used to live beside a grove of 900 year old pine trees in Maine. There are gems, if you prepare ahead of time. And police on this coast are friendly to anyone who asks about a safe, legal place to sleep for free. So are the postal staff, who are also very likely to share gems known only to locals or help you find showers, natural foods grocers, or farm stands and the like. If you roll into the area you want to sleep during the day, you’ll be able to ask. In my town, for instance, there’s free legal overnight parking on the main road through town. Within five miles of my home there are four wildlife preserves, four camp grounds, and two locations of BLM lands. Within thirty miles there are too many to name, including national forest. It takes a bit more work to travel here, especially if you travel RT 95, which is a shit show, but I think it’s worth the effort. I’m probably biased though, having lived and traveled mostly in the states directly adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean. I hope your family trip is awesome!
I've heard even if it says no overnight parking, you're allowed to stay 8 hours, like they mean you can't consistently stay overnight locally but one sleep while traveling is permitted.
@@GrandpaPlayedBox you shouldn’t count on that. You should assume you can’t. And I have seen roads with only one sign on it that was miles away. I got the knock. It’s much better to find places that have clearly marked signs for overnight parking or save yourself loads of time and just ask police for directions. They really will help you, even if it’s to tell you that in this particular neighborhood, town or city campers are completely unwelcome or that this area is totally not safe. They will direct you to where it is safe if you ask them.
@@margueritemitchell1829 true, if you are on the T or another heavy commuter train parking lot, they do cost. But most of them are otherwise free along the east coast.
I so enjoyed watching this video. Just you, and Ekela on the road . This is why l started watching you in the first place. Solo female and her dog. Hope to see more like this soon. I am starting van life in the next month . Bought my campervan, and so anxious to start this new chapter of my life. I am a little nervious about it, but excited at the same time. You gave me the courage to do this, and for that l thank you.
Congratulations on the start of your own van journey! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! And yes, while I love traveling solo, Chris is a huge part of my life and will be in many videos to come. Have a great night and enjoy your travels!
i actually really love these down to earth every day vanlife vlogs that isnt showing the perfect dream of vanlife, but rather show how it really is with all the ups and downs :)
I live in Savannah and just watched another vanner on their trek to Savannah. If you are near Waters Ave and 40th street come by Waters Cafe and have a coffee on me. I am a retired surgical scrub tech, local artist and grandma of 5😃
Even though you weren’t in beautiful places you showed us “reality” and it’s one of the things I love about you! Your videos are always amazing! I love hearing you talk because you’re honest. Enjoy your family and stay safe! Love to you and Akela💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻🦋
Linnea was great to see how vanlife is not always the dreamy out in the wilds, everything just so perfect but sometimes it is sleeping in the car park of Walmart or a gas station.
Linnea, I've never been able to have a pup as an adult, but have fostered or doggy day cared for several. I love when you're feeding Akela & you say, "Akela nose (taps your palm w/her snout); Akela eyes (holds long stare w/you). Okay." Then she eats up. So well-mannered & well-trained. May you both be together for long happy & healthy lives. Hugs~Marirose🌀
It doesn’t matter what you choose to share, its all lovely! I’m glad Akela took your salmon, she probably needed the omegas (ha!) Such a sweet interchange with your crystal mushroom friend, thanks for sharing all of this! PS Great to get a glimpse of your mom, as usual. I love it when your family is ok with showing up, they are such heartfelt humans it is refreshing!
Just when you set up a video as “just simple” vanlife, Akela supplies the humor (salmon salad steal) and drama (disinfecting wipes clog). I just enjoy you two so much because you’re genuine. And I enjoy when Chris is along, too. Happy days! ❤️🚐
I've only just recently started to catch your videos, have watched all the van build ones but I'm still a year behind! But couldn't resist watching your latest one, I'm soo invested and interested in your life (hopefully you don't think me creepy!) Just the way you've embraced and dedicated your life to your specific way and it's very impressive how you've built up your van from scratch , you should be so proud of yourself Also, it just comes across how much of a genuine person you are and it's heart warming to see your interactions with your family members It's just a joy to follow your progress and I'm glad you put your journey on UA-cam , you no doubt inspire many people with your wholesome and just caring and positive lifestyle
I’m converting a short bus currently and I MUCH prefer these types of vlogs over the perfect scenery ones cause I get a glimpse of what life will look like 😊
I so what to get a van and hit the road. I am saving up and plan on taking weekend trips. I hope to retire in 5 years and go full-time van life then. Love your show. God bless you and your fur baby
It turns out this video is better than just about any thing on UA-cam you were so real! You caught my attention when when I saw Akela, I used to go for a very good friend that had her twin and I fell in love with her unfortunately she's not with us any longer and that dog stole my heart. I love what you do and you are great at it, keep it up. I look forward to everything you post no matter how short is or what its contents is.
I am so happy you are back on your Sunday schedule. Sundays have not been the same without you and Akela. It doesn't matter where you are or what you're doing, I just appreciate you sharing your life with us. I hope you enjoyed your family time. See you next Sunday!!
Love you being and sharing YOU in the day to day being real ❤ thank you. Two. I’m so grateful to see in ACTION the female solo travelers sensing each other and supporting/encouraging each other - as I am getting ready to join that #vanlife journey soon myself as a female solo (hopefully rescue my dog companion 🐶) and. Real talk.....I know you and Chris are in love and love to be with each other. BUT does it feel nice to be back doing your thing. I thought this video was great! Have a fun family trip.
Hi Linnea and Akela! Fellow vaner here. I drove through GA twice this winter and just wanted to recommend Cloudland Canyon State Park if you're passing anywhere near it after you leave Savannah (it's in the northwest, so opposite corner). It's a great stop for a walk in nature. Sitton's Gluch trail was nice and peaceful when I went, and the waterfalls are of course incredible! GA state parks are only $5 too, which is on the cheap end from my (east coast) experience. And on a separate note, I bought a mushroom crystal for a friend during that trip! At a crystals shop in New Orleans :)
Thanks so much for your videos Linnea. Love you and Akela. I have only been a month in my van and feeling a bit crap today and you have made me feel so good watching your videos. First things I have watched in a month. Also I was going to recommend the Salt path as a book and amazing you have started it already. Hope you love it x

Linnea I absolutely love this kind of video. Just you Akela and of course Chris when he is there lol. The transparency and realness is the best. I am always grateful that you bring all of us along for your journey. Sending good vibes and prayers can't forget the hugs ❤
It occurred to me that any men watching might have no idea why you like to get all of that stuff done before it gets dark or why you get creeped out if you have to get out of your van to close the back door. I imagine very few of them ever concern themselves with on-going and relentless threats to physical safety. Thank you for sharing how you take steps to keep yourself and Akela safe, even though you did not state specifically that you do this for safety reasons. Also, YES to the Alawys pan!
My husband and I are driving from Destin Fl back home to Dallas Tx.He took me there four beautiful days so I can see the beach one more time!! It was fantastic!!

Just finding the time to catch up with you again. I see some shorts on IG anf FB but nothing beats your long form videis and I've been missing them, I'll get caught up with you before the end of the summer, but life keeps getting in the way! Loved this one - who needs a shower every day anyway? and I agree, people on the road are the best, some of the greatest I have ever met. Keep living it.
Thank You Lianne! I was on the road in the US in my little motorhome in my late 60s - early 70s and I loved it! Every day is an adventure. It doesn't have to be about going to National Parks etc. I've still got some wanderlust. Enjoy and keep posting! With love from Wales UK. ❤
Omg ain't seen any of your vids in ages and you just popped in my my mind... gonna watch all I missed and catch up.. hope you are both doing good! Sending love from Swansea Wakes UK.❤
Shanty Days T … love it! I’m from GB but lived in Algoma for a hot second in the 80’s. PS- I completed my van build about a month ago. I followed your build every step of the way! I don’t think I would have tackled it without your channel. Thank you!
I love this content!! ❤❤ thank you. And seeing a glimpse of the community. Moving back to the US and settling is a hard adjustment after expat life. Same sort of community. ❤
I see you have the Comfort Crisis book above your bed. If you haven't read it yet, you should soon. Its amazing!!!! Have fun on the road and be safe :)
I don't watch your channel, or IG, for the pretty stuff. I love it because it's REAL, authentic and honest, and beautifully filmed. You are in so many of my saved videos for my future van life, for those reasons
Funny because you’re talking about how she takes your plates and immediately I said she’s hungry she’s not getting enough protein in her diet and then bam you said she ate your salmon. You should just check see how much you’re feeding her maybe she’s not getting enough protein in her diet ♥️ I’m so glad I just found your channel today can you tell I love dogs ❤
Not always fun but most of the time it is. Sitting around drives me crazy and I am Trying to Change that. Still working and on Goes the hustle and the stress at times. Good representation! Great video. Be well.
I agree! When I am at family's house, I stay in the van because my stuff is there and Wyrd has a routine at night and we both sleep so good in the minivan. I don't like packing my stuff to take in, I always forget something. Safe travels!
These everyday life videos are one of my favourites. I love real life real content it's calming to me and it feels cozy to me to know you have your house with you everywhere you go ❤
Just found your channel. I've been full time in a 17 ft camper for 4 years. One thing I suggest for everyone living in small spaces is to get the MyMini Noodle Cooker and Griddle from wally world for $10. It's only 260 watts and I use it daily. You can fry anything, boil, etc. without propane or butane. If you have a portable power station it's a game changer.
I very much enjoyed this video bc its real. Not everyday is all pretty views and such. It's real life. I'm working on several days with no shower but I'm having one today 😅. Akiela is so awesome but man you'd think she'd learn about eating stuff. Girl I drove with a Crack for several months lol. I agree the South and really the Eastern side of the states have no blm land. I've been mainly on the East and can't wait until I can ho west. Oh I'd watch just about anything you put out. Hope you had a great time with the family.
She’s gorgeous! I have a Shepherd too. I want to travel with her but she’s so reactive. Omg obstructions can kill. And the chemicals in the wipes are toxic. I’m really glad she is ok. It made me nervous that she ate your food. I’m a fresh food feeder and am all for feeding real food but I am hoping there weren’t any onions in your food!
Hi Linnea & Akela - loved this video as we are newbies to vanlife and you totally captured the beautiful reality of travelling on the road in a much loved tiny home. My husband built out our van too, and you were a big inspiration to him. He kept saying if that girl can do it, so can I - we are retired btw. anyways love your videos and your precious relationship with sweet Akela. take care on the road, and hope to meet you on the road some day!!!

I Love Sundays!
Funny because you’re talking about how she takes your plates and immediately I said she’s hungry she’s not getting enough protein in her diet and then bam you said she ate your salmon. You should just check see how much you’re feeding her maybe she’s not getting enough protein in her diet ♥️
I’m so glad I just found your channel today can you tell I love dogs ❤
Love all your videos, regardless of location and activities. Thanks for being so sweet and real!!!!!!!
I love this vlog I don’t want unreality anymore the most honest and humble human and that is enough ❤
I started watching you during your build and loved how real you kept it. Really enjoy this content, can't wait to see more!
I loved this one!!!!!⚓☀️
I like the bloopers. And love seeing your mom's happy face.
Not always fun but most of the time it is. Sitting around drives me crazy and I am
Trying to Change that. Still working and on
Goes the hustle and the stress at times. Good representation! Great video. Be well.
Love to see your bond with Akela. She is such a goofball, always looking towards the camera when you talk about her.
I agree! When I am at family's house, I stay in the van because my stuff is there and Wyrd has a routine at night and we both sleep so good in the minivan. I don't like packing my stuff to take in, I always forget something. Safe travels!
These everyday life videos are one of my favourites. I love real life real content it's calming to me and it feels cozy to me to know you have your house with you everywhere you go ❤
So happy to see you back on Sunday. Enjoy your family time. Safe travel and God Bless.
Feels so good to be back to Sundays, thank you 💛
Just found your channel.
Good to see just you and Akela! Nice recollection to when you had first started posting and what drew me to watching!
So glad to see you back on line. Was really missing you, Chris and your wonderful dog!!
Thank you so much! Akela and I are so happy to be back, and Chris and I will be together again so soon! 💛
Thank you for sharing.😊
This video is so relatable and I love it so much! Thanks for sharing it with everybody!
So happy to see you😊😊 you give me strength and laughter joy!! Sending love and Gratitude! Everything you do at this point is youtube worthy
I hear you. Driving in the East is definitely not as fun.
You looked so sad that I wanted to give you a hug. I hope you're okay.
