The circular shape you see around the door is actually a built in crush resistant rollbar called the safety cell. They also have top safety ratings. That said, if you get plowed into by a semi truck in any vehicle, you're gonna have a bad time. Thre's a video that shows one of these slamming into a concrete barrier at something like 75mph and the doors still open and close.

I hope her health holds up. My husband and I were planning alot of road-trips and camping. No sooner than after we got out of our house, and into a small rv, he had a widow-maker heart-attack at 58...no prior warnings. I was 50. That was five years ago, and Iam still dealing with the fall-out. We had such happy plans, but they all died with him. I hope this strong woman stays healthy and able❤. Love the car!

Well this video made me shut up! I'm leaving on 1/30 to car camp long term in a slightly used RAV4 and I was literally in tears today because it's going to be a tight squeeze. I needed an attitude adjustment and this video certainly did it for me! I'm 66 yo and will be living off SS of a teeny bit over 2K a month. I did have a house which I sold 2 years ago so I have an emergency fund if I need it. I wish Kai ALL the best in her upcoming retirement and in life! Great idea to have a little container for any night time bathroom needs I was actually really worried about that aspect.

I would hate for someone to jump in without knowing it’s a hard life. I’ve lived in a Toyota Yaris, SUV, hightop conversion van, and now a minivan. It’s 100% worth it for me but it’s not an easy way to live. Hers is really not easy.
A body can easily rent a hotel Room 3 days at a time just to relieve one's stress and just to get some place to walk around. Recall that she is still working and has an income. Therefore, saving money on rent. In my case, where I could do this for 2 years just to save up literally $50000. I am still working and it's very doable, Southern California living.
@ Yes, they can. I rent either AirBnbs, hotels, or campgrounds when I need a break, in areas that aren’t vanlife friendly, or if I’m not feeling well. If this is something you would like to do, go for it. I can only suggest testing it out first because it’s not going to be for most people.

One woman was in the process of selling her home to start vanlife and she argued with me that there were no cons to it because she had never heard anyone mention any. A lot of people really believe that the 20 minute video where the person is smiling represents the person’s entire life - just travel, pretty landscapes, and no problems. They really don’t get that the video is highly edited because they don’t know what they don’t know. Honestly, I’m not immune to it myself. I had no idea how hard doing a build was because no one ever showed the numerous, overwhelming frustrations. I’ll never do another one. If I ever move to a high top van, I’ll pay someone to install a kit.

She uses the bathroom in that bin with the yellow top that she sets next to her at night on the driver's side. I did make reference to it. I did record a little more of it. Perhaps I will do a short. If Kai does start a channel I will suggest that she demonstrates how she cooks. She did show how she heats up some things in the zip lock steamer bags.
I’m glad I planned accordingly when I was younger. I worked 2-3 jobs at some times to stay ahead of any debt and pay off my mortgage quicker. My older self thanks my younger self. Young people, work hard, save… we should NOT be living in a car when we’re seniors. This is NOT normal
Kai is amazing! She has taken nomadic life to a new level and has a delightfully upbeat spirit! Her demeanor is so much younger than people I know that are her age. She made wise financial decisions to wait on SS and now is truly living her dream. Wonderful to hear the mutual respect within her family while giving each other support when needed. I talked to this lady at the rtr. She realy made a positive impression on me. She is a gift to talk to. I shared my experiences talking her with many people. What a beutiful person.
I retired at 68 s couple of years ago & I’m in good shape. Paid off my mortgage in 2018 & I’m 100% debt free. I should have retired sooner. My wife & I travel 2 months out of the year in our Class C Motorhome.
I will be 64. I am in pretty good shape. People think I am younger. I could not do it. I get stiff if I do not stretch and move around. I purposely drink a lot of fluids to wake up several times on purpose, to move more. This is sad. But if she is fine and waiting until 70, more power to her. I think if we can send money to other countries, we should raise social security, etc for seniors.😢😢😢😢 I know I also need to cook 99% of my food by scratch, including making my own bread. I need a kitchen. I need a bathroom, since drink plenty of fluids...and after having children, never the same. 😢😢😢😢 What is going on in society?? Where are the families helping each other...??

In my daughter's older model of the same model as mine, the seat lays flatter. I'm looking for a simple way to even out the dip, ideally something that doesn't add much bulk to my gear.

This lady is applauable 👏! She had a plan and stuck to it. She worked out all the bugs and challenges on how to live in a very small smart car and is making it work. I think it won't be long before one of her son's friends figures out if she can do it at her age (at any age actually), that they can do it too. Her intelligence and being tetra minded totally fit the car she drives. Both are smart and able to go a long way on not too much👍.
Remove passenger seat and built own structure with 4x4 wood. In this you can place underneath belongings on top wooden surface so that your back does not get bend

I spend a lot of time in Phnom Penh Cambodia. I've seen numerous tuk-tuk drivers that live in their tuk-tuk. They usually string a hammock up diagnoly across the inside of the tuk-tuk. I had a 2005 Smart car years ago and thought about building a sleeping platform in it. It was a little too tight for my liking. Many years later, I ended up doing a full buildout on a Corolla and have been traveling in it for several years now. Cars can work for vehicle dwelling but there are definitely compromises. The fuel economy sure is nice.
Kudos to her but no way for me!!! I'm 69 and transitioning into my 2007 Pontiac G6 in Mar. I've been planning and preparing since last May and a small storage unit is definitely in the picture.

You can definitely do it. I strongly suggest you develop a support group of other nomads, possibly thru Facebook or other groups.

Wow! I love this. I like the inflatable pillow idea; it might work in my sedan to even out the reclined seat.
I have found a travel pillow that is only 12 inches long and it fits perfectly.
try to keep your feet elevated it you decide to sleep in a reclined seat position to minimize blood pooling in the lower part of your legs.,

Kudos to her but no way for me!!! I'm 69 and transitioning into my 2007 Pontiac G6 in Mar. I've been planning and preparing since last May and a small storage unit is definitely in the picture.

Donot wait till 70 to collect. Tomorrow s not promised. If u dont collect now, nobody can once u pass (god forbid)… u should just collect now, if u dont need it, invest in CDs or bonds and should u pass, that money can b inherited by your son. My 2 cents
