Thanks God! People owning home have been stuck paying mortgages while these folks live rent free. If you can’t afford it, please move. It’s destroying honest hard working people who are struggling to own a home.
These people have no money like you. They live check to check and inflation is eating them alive. Your government did this to them. They locked the world down and gave out candy like they were Willy Wonka. Now here we are.
@@ericanderson3534 Nonsense. They slow it down to save lives. Now there are vaccines and people are free to do as they please. Lots of these freeloaders used the pandemic as an excuse to live at someone else's expense. They need to grow up and learn to live within their means. Btw, how do you know they have no money like me? I can't afford to live in SF, that's why I live somewhere else where it suits my budget. I don't try to live beyond my means and whine about why other people are not subsidizing my rent. I do not understand how people think they are guaranteed a return on a business or rental. It's a risk that you have to assume when starting a business or investing into something.
My renter took advantage of the situation and did not pay me rent for almost two years before I was able to evict them. Knowing that I would never recover money, I forgave the debt. Then, I mailed him a 1099-C. Let's see if the IRS lets them go for that $50k income that they will have to pay taxes on....lol.
They should have to pay taxes on that that was untaxed income to them no doubt they were collecting Covid payments the whole time
Do you file this with the government too? I didn't know about this so I'm wondering if the renter can "forget" and not declare it and get away with it.

Never feel sorry for these people. My apartment complex has 12 different residents that haven’t paid rent in two years. How do I know this ? I know the maintenance manager & I talk to him on weekly bases. Imagine living in a apartment for two years in the Bay Area and not paying rent.
I don't feel sorry for them my mom is a immigrany from Cambodia and she has no money because she makes sure she pays her rent with what she has these ppl got a spending problem

They thought they could get away for not paying lol now they will have eviction on record or bad reference from landlord. How will they ever be able to rent again? They will have to wait a very long time to do it
Welcome to section 8 housing folks...
Glad to hear a tenant said landlord has been "more than patient." The media, advocates, and tenant do not acknowledge that most of the country's rental property owners are small businesses. These companies and individuals cannot afford to operate without rental payments.
Yep almost half(44%) are mom and pops landlords
@Baron Munchausen lol
@Baron Munchausen is that a threat or something?
@Baron Munchausen okay..
Ridiculous. You gotta pay your rent. I'm a single mom with 2 kids so i get that things can be tough... but I was taught to always pay your rent first. Before internet, phone, groceries all of it. You can always use a food bank or survive on Ramen noodles if you have too, but you need a roof over your head. Period. Stop spending foolishly and prioritize your rent. Even if your short some, pay what you have and have a conversation with the landlord about when you'll have the rest. You can't just avoid it and hope it'll away.. because it wont.
Exactly always make sure you have a roof over your head especially when having children. Everything else can be worked out
Your mom taught u well. I get it. When u get paid u want to buy other things but that don't matter RENT is number 1.
Why should I do all that when the gubment says I don't have to pay?
Not paying rent means more 40 ouncers, weed, video games and $ 200 gymshoes. Get my drift?
Growing up my middle class parents saved and bought a 6 unit apt building as a investment. My Dad did almost all the maintenance and my Mom cleaned the units after the slobs either moved out or finally got evicted, and the bookkeeping. Every dollar went to the monthly mortgage or maintenance.
The bank expects the mortgage EVERY month. If a tenant didn't pay rent that $ had to come from somewhere, the bank doesn't care.
Your parents should have did a better job of vetting the tenants. If they were slobs shouldn’t have rented to them.
@@Me_839 you ok?
So sorry for the property owners! Many depend on these properties for their retirement. Terrible for all involved.
40+ years later.....
Welcome to a America where real estate is the only way to survive in retirement.
America is on a unstainable path where housing costs will eventually have a tipping point.
Before all of this Pensions was the thing that was counted on for retirement.
Eventually no one (or not enough) will have $25+k laying around as a backup to cover rent for a whole year.
getting a job is better than relying on tenants
True. Most people think all landlords are filthy rich, but the truth is most are middle class types who are struggling to maintain the rental property (repairs, property taxes, etc.)
I never said landlords are rich. But if you are expecting your tenants to have savings put aside so should landlords. There is nothing guaranteed about any investment that you make in life.
The Loose lending standards lead to instability throughout the banking industry at the start of the Great Recession. Those loose standards were rampant for many years prior. The Feds put the states in charge of the disbursement this time around.
And not a single honest, hardworking, frugal, smart, good money managing person was evicted
Get a job, everyone is hiring. A man should do what it takes to make sure his family has what they need!

Lazy renters feel they’re entitled to government help.
Okay. I'm a renter. If I was approved for the COVID-19 rental assistance (which I was), I would pay my rent, until the assistant kicked in(which I did). You DON'T STOP PAYING YOUR RENT, because someone says they will help.
My rent and utilities combine, take up all but $120 a month of my income, and nope, I don't have a car. And yes my rent went up, and yes I am moving, but, I always paid my rent. If I couldn't pay, I don't just live in the place. That's just stealing from the owner.
I don't feel sorry for renters, that are losing there place because they decided not to pay rent, because the government said they would help out, and the money hasn't arrived. Or, for those who decided to just stop paying rent, because they knew they wouldn't get evicted, they should feel ashamed. They are simply stealing.
I've never been evicted or moved away owing rent. Pay the rent it's the right thing to do.
I don't understand how landlords in California get by. With these laws allowing no rents to be paid for so long how do they make ends meet?
Housing bubble they want them to go bankrupt
It's a struggle! Most rentals are Mom/Pop. I know my parents bought a 6 unit apt building as an investment. This made such a bad impression on me I swore I would never have rental property and I don't. All I learned was there are people out there that will look you right in the eye and lie, they will destroy your property because it's not theirs.
My parents had a few rental properties when I was growing up. My Dad use to say "What about landlord's rights? All we hear about is tenants rights"? This was usually while we were cleaning up and repairing the damage after he FINALLY evicted the slob/tenant..

No assistance for renters or landlords. Keeping renters in their apartments without rent creates an artificial shortage of vacancies and drives up the rent on the few vacant units left on the market. Bailing out investors who bought houses/units to rent, knowing there is a risk that they could be foreclosed upon, artificially keeps the houses/units for sale low. Bailing out renters, bails out investors, which bails out banks. The only people who don't profit from this scheme are taxpayers who stayed out of this. I don't wish an eviction on any earnest person, and I know I'm tempting karma by putting this out there. Some people will have to couch surf. Some people will have to move back in with mom and dad. Like they ran out of jobs 🙄
Everyone's all lazy to go back to work
Ik, at my job we were hiring waitstaffs for 2 months, nobody came to the interviews, my manager even had to go around the neighborhood trying to convince strangers to come to work with us. It’s ridiculous.
States crummy regulations are “buying” more votes from the unmotivated to stay in power, at the same time, breeding more burdens for those tax payers who works hard and live responsibly. It’s time, save ourselves, vote better and vote smarter.
Been saving all that rent for 2 years. Unreal
It’s ridiculous that there is still. Moratorium in this f’d up state. Landlords took it in the azz thanks to the idiots in charge. There should be a class action to recoup the stolen funds.
Each kid will cost $270k to raise them 18 years old (national average). Probably $300k in the Bay Area.
