Two years ago at this time, I was bald from chemo. It was absolutely devastating. But I made the best of it with different wigs. Had no choice. Actually my picture here, I’m wearing a wig. I am almost back to my pre cancer hair now. Thick and long 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I am part of a community of thousands of women who have decided to embrace their natural gray hair and it is extremely freeing. Gray hair does not make someone look older. It is actually just our society that perpetuates that idea. My skin actually looks more vibrant and younger with my natural gray hair than when I was trying to dye it to cover the gray. In my personal opinion, when you had the gray hair against your skin, I thought your skin looked amazing. It is completely society perpetuating that gray hair equals old. Young women go gray all the time but we don’t know that because young women have been taught to dye their hair. It is completely a personal choice and I am not against hair dye in the slightest! I am just against society making women feel that their natural selves are lacking in someway.
I would say that it looks amazing on many women but it does make some women look older. I look much older with gray hair so I prefer to color it. To each his/her own🌺
Agree! I think most women don't want to look 'dated' or older than they are but there is a beauty in accepting the age one is. I am 58 & don't care about looking 10 or 20 years younger. What is the benefit? I want to look like who I am: a healthy & active woman who has lived 5 decades. Also, the thinning hair can be an issue re:hormones & aging but in my case, I have always had fine hair, it hereditary & I accept that. I am on low-dose thyroid meds, so I'm glad I'm not chasing a goal of thicker hair with supplements. I just keep my hair trimmed above my shoulders regularly.
Yes! I'm just letting it grow in. I'm actually DELIGHTED to finally have some texture! I've lived my whole life with silky blonde hair that refused to stay in any style. Now my braids stay in place and a curls stays put!
Grayson Walley Usually when gray hair makes women look older it is because of a style choice not necessarily the color! And you are right to each their own! ❤️
@rigleia me too! My scalp used to react and get sore from hair dye and now its healthier than ever. I also hate the idea grey=old. Young ladies are paying to get their hair dyed silver so I figured I'd save myself some money lol.
I have been doing the same thing. Mine is long and dark, so to avoid the “grey line,” my hair dresser adds a few baby high lights when I go for a trim and suggested a shampoo and conditioner for silver hair. It’s helped. I can attest to Collagen being beneficial. It goes in my morning coffee and I don’t even notice it. 😊
@@sophh1585 Yes,grey does not automatically equal "old"! My naturally silver hair (started greying in high school) that i FINALLY let grow out is just beautiful and i get way more compliments on my natural colour than i did from any colour i had put on my hair. I'll never dye my hair again.
When I quit smothering my scalp in chemicals, and finally embraced my gray, my scalp flourished, my receding hairline started sprouting new, baby hairs and my entire head of hair thickened up considerably. It could breathe again.
I quit coloring 3 years ago and it was the best decision I made. My hair is so thick, healthy and shiny with zero products or styling. My hair feels like it did when I was a teenager before I started messing with it. I do have a few streaks of gray but I think it looks pretty. My husband has no complaints. Also...your natural color always matches your skin tone.
I had to stop coloring my hair because it made my hair fall out like crazy. The last time, I lost at least half my hair. Most of it eventually grew back, but even with monoxidil, it isn't what it was.
I find Dr. Hauschka shampoo and conditioner excellent for my fine dry coloured hair. I too am embracing going grey and hope to have a natural ash blonde as opposed to a chemical one. Great tips btw.
I was using the Olaplex 3, 4, and 5 regularly until I stopped fighting my natural curls. I use it occasionally now. I'm a licensed hairdresser and keeping curly hair happy has been a learning curve for me! Olaplex #3 isn't a conditioner, it's a treatment that repairs disulfide bonds...it states that on the bottle. Once the hair is rinsed, then shampooed, a nourishing conditioner should be used. Their products contain silicones which can build up over time. I agree with 'too much product' but would definitely use a heat protectant when using styling tools.
Tip #5 is so true. Some women get stuck in a time warp. Having long hair isn’t always a good thing for some women. Not all long hair is equal. I’ve seen some woman shave off a decade with a great hair cut.
I agree, but depends on the person's face. I am 52, and look very young for my age. My hair is down to my waist, but still very thick, shinny and healthy. I am a hairstylist, and was always one that thought that once you hit 40, the long hair, had to go. Here I am, and it's longer now than it has been since I was 15.
I started taking collagen powder on your recommendation. I didn't notice a difference until I had been doing it for two months but wow. EVEN hair loss stoped. My stylist was amazing at the transformation. You saved my hair. I have added Tati's Halo hair booster and that has made it even better. Finally, a prewash hair mask called "elasticizer" from Phillip Kingsley is amazing. I took i to my mother's beach house a couple of weeks ago and all of my daughters, I have four and my two nieces were instant converts. You really notice a difference in bounce after you use it. Finally, I am using a Kerastase leave in night conditioner. My hair looks 20 years younger than it did four. months ago. !!!!
@@serenity0091 which collagen is that?? I have tried a few that taste terrible and leave lumps in the liquid impossible to dissolve. I would love one tasteless I could add in my drink in the morning and off I go for the day. I would appreciate you could share the name of the one you use.
Great tips! Naturally curly hair does typically need a lot of product, which it seems most people dont talk about. To achieve healthy looking curls without frizz is the ultimate goal.
So agree Michelle . I don’t have wash and wear ready to go hair due to my waves . My hair styles fantastic , hairdressers can get it do anything . I Don’t have the expertise to style it well , I’m fine with that . More a natural Beachy type anyway 😊
My hair started falling out in my 30s....tried everything....every doctor....no luck sadly. I decided to start wearing wigs and now 15 years later, it is the best decision ever. I can change style, length , colour in an instant! Don't cry about hair loss like I did. Rock a great wig and look beautiful,! Youthful hair forever😊
I really recommend the book Going Gray by Anne Kreamer. One of the most memorable parts of the book is when they did a little study on whether gray hair actually makes you look older. e.g. would people guess the person's age correctly or would they guess younger when the hair was colored and older what it was not? Guess what? You look the same age, more or less, whether you color your hair or have natural platinum hair. :) What ages folks isn't their hair color. Study showed that. What ages you is your hair style and hair health (is it shiny or dull), energy level, attitude, clothing, makeup, and intellectual curiosity and vibrancy. I adore my platinum hair. Stopped coloring about 4 years ago, grew it out and never looked back. Reading that book gave me a lot of insight and courage to do what I wanted to -- and for me (your mileage may and likely will, vary) I feel more authentic, much more free now that I don't have to keep checking roots and going to a salon and so far in the last 4 years, I've saved about $4000 in hair coloring costs and my hair is more shiny and far healthier.
Gray hair almost always ages people, I think. Or at least makes them look their age if they're a 40 yr old having a young looking like a 30 yr old face, with the gray hair they look at least 40. They can still look beautiful with gray hair though. :)
Going gray left me with thick hair as all the breakage grew back healthier and I constantly find baby hairs. One of the many positives of going gray is that not only do I save money, I save time and the air drying has brought new luster which is hard for gray to achieve. Now experimenting with growing longer after having a Bob. Each month I ask my husband if I have achieved "witchdom" yet! LOL
Love these pointers! My experience was very similar. I’m turning 53 in October. I tried a combination of: 1- Biotin Supplement 2-Keratin Shampoo 3-Coconut Oil Treatment once a week. 4-Collagen Powder 5-Hair Cut only every third month. 6-Air drying instead of a blowout Thanks for all your advice and enthusiasm!
I ditched the hair color 3 years ago! The absolute best decision ever it's so liberating not having to color every 3 weeks. However, my silver sparkles require purple shampoo like Purelogy as regular maintenance. My favorite hair mask is Kerastase.
So did I😊. I became allergic to the hair dye so had to stop getting it done but it was the best thing I ever did. I get more compliments about the colour now than I ever did when it was coloured.
Kerastase is the bomb! Totally transformed my hair from straw to silky. I loved the masque so much that I ended up ordering one of their shampoos, a serum that you can leave on overnight...and you don't have to rinse it out in the morning if you don't feel the need to. I also love their thermal protector. It might be a little more pricey than products I've used, but now I don't have to keep buying so many different things only to use one time, then find out they don't work for me. In the long run, I think it will be more cost effective, plus just a little bit goes a long way and I have very thick hair.
I took a leap ant cut my hair above my shoulders (somewhat of a chin area length bob). I think that was hands down the best thing I've done to look more youthful. I think I look much more stylish with shorter hair.
I just cut mine to shoulder length too . Mine is naturally curl and the cut just made my hair looks way too fuller than I want. I want it more layers to thin it down but the hairdresser doesn't understand my problem.
I have an amazing stylist/colorist who works magic matching hair color that compliments your complexion. She has created a beautifully unique color combination on which I receive compliments all the time. No one will ever see me in grey hair because of my talented stylist who gives me incredible confidence every day! Don’t give into the grey if you can find a knowledgeable, talented colorist who knows her stuff!
your so lucky to have found a good colorist like that, I asked mine to color my hair like my natural color ( light ash brown) to cover the grays and she colored my hair red
I so agree about hair color! I’ve been doing my own hair since I was a teen and I still do it by myself, and get compliments all the time. When I was young I used to love going really blonde and then one day I grew it out a bit and I was told it looked really good. So since then I feel I look best with dirty blonde with ashy blonde highlights, nothing too extreme or brassy, and I’m very happy with it.
I have been a professional hairstylist for 30 years and this is all very accurate GREAT information! Great job :) Thank you for sharing with everyone that sometimes beautiful hair and skin really does come from what we put IN our bodies... so so true!!
❤️ I was a blond kid and teen, but my color is now at 50, quite dark, I tried for couple of years go with out coloring but I just couldn’t get use to it. Dark blond with some highlights is my happy place. I still could not wait to check out the app 😀
Same here .illbe 50 next year and idont have a single grey hair.ilso haven't had ahiglight for 6 months due to lockdowns so I'm trying to rock the natural balyage 🤣
This is a great video! One thing I have found to add shine to my hair is argan oil. Just put a little in your palm and rub throughout your hair. It won't weigh it down and looks great.
Great video, thank you!! I have embraced my gray hair. I went through breast cancer treatment five years ago, and after my hair began to grow back I decided not to color. I was 41 at the time. I really love it now and feel like I can have fun with the new color palette. My makeup is now different too. 😎
I went natural a few years ago and I love it. Your hair color is gorgeous and I’m so happy that you have regained your health! I hope you stay cancer free❤️
I am 55 and my hairdresser recommended Keratinque Keratin Shampoo and conditioner. Also the Lift Spray which I use only on ends to seal the cuticle. This works nicely for my wavy to almost curly fine hair I also do a final “rinse “ with reverse osmosis water or distilled water. Then I finish with a little oil to weight the frizziest down a bit.
I disagree about silver hair making a person look older. After you hit 50 and, most especially, 60, wearing a very dark brown even if it's your previous natural color, ages a person greatly. Wearing your own natural silver, or salt & pepper is far more flattering. If you wear your natural color, it brightens your face and works better with your skin. And, the bonus is wearing silver in a modern cut means lots of men compliment you. I didn't anticipate the extra attention. I get compliments on my silver color all of the time, and no one ever complimented my natural color. Truth.
I am almost 75 and my natural color is medium brown. During quarantine a lot of gray came in and I looked so much older! I have a young looking hair style, to the collarbone, and my stylist keeps me at light to medium brown. One thing the gray does, though, is gives me natural highlights!! They come in as kind of a blondish/brown color. She has told me that if I just let all the natural gray come in, it would definitely age me and would be very coarse and wavy. If I wanted to have it look shiny and smooth, I would have to go see her, anyway! Some people have coloring that can handle natural gray, I just don't 😊
I do agree that women often pick colors that are less flattering than their natural color. That is why it is so important to really get the shade right if you decide to use color. I think it's great that you are loving your silver hair! xo
I wash my hair in rainwater. I use castille soap and VO5 hair dressing. No other products in my hair, but I do take vitamins for hair skin and nails. My hair got MUCH thicker when I got all the conditioner buildup out of it! It also grew much faster, and I haven't had split ends or hairfall in six months.
An important step after using a clarifying shampoo is to use a deep conditioner that, optimally, you can keep on for 20 minutes, then rinse with cool water. I started doing this about six months ago consistently and the difference in my hair is remarkable.
Thanks so much, this was brilliant. I'm in my 30s but I'm finding your channel has such great content even for younger people that get stuck in a rut or are transitioning into their mid to late 30s. Such good tips on changing up your hair styles!
If anyone is experiencing hair loss, get your doctor to check your iron studies and also Vitamin D! My hair was thinning and I discovered it was extremely low ferritin (on the way to iron deficiency anemia) and low vitamin D. I’m taking an iron supplement now, Nutrafol (has vit D in it), and collagen powder now and it’s definitely helping!
My hair loss was due to an iron deficiency too. I am seeing a dermatologist and she is helping me to get it healthy again. She recomended me Nutrafol and I am just starting to take it.
Erin, that was great. I like how you are always coming up with new ideas. I am 54 and put blonde highlights in my hair since I was in my mid 30s. A few years ago I stopped all colour as I wasn't getting the outcome I was after. I am loving it!! My hair is thick, shiny, healthy and I even find the colour and natural highlights very flattering and interesting. The improved lustre was the most surprising benefit of all. Yes, the grey is coming through but I am celebrating my age and ushering in this new stage with enthusiasm. I have my hair cut to my jawline and I find it is an instant facelift andgives the illusion of plumping up my face. I have also been taking collagen supplements. I use high quality hair care products and put in a treatment at least once a week. I also invested in a Dyson hairdryer, which does less heat damage to my hair.
Thank goodness, I was given an advanced colorist with Wela she told me auburn would look best with my skin tone. She is so right, and mixes 4 red colors. I use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner from Dramatics salon in nyc. I also use Kerastase shampoo & conditioner for color treated hair. I use a leave in before I blow dry and Olivia Garden styling brushes. Also, please gals only wash your hair once a week. Over washing is striping the natural oils and can dry it out. Great video Erin
Yes, I can testify to this! ⬆️ My hairstylist also advised using shampoo just once a week on my fine, highlighted hair. Also recommended trying an updo towards the end of that week if it feels uncomfortably oily. My hair is now much less brittle, even after this blazing hot summer! I would've likely never tried that without pro advice.
Wow ! The virtual Hair video you showed us, I did not realize how important your hair color was !! Another great video!!!! Thank you so much for keeping it real. Have a great rest of the week.
What a great video on hair! I am naturally curly and 57. I am only at 30% grey and like my “sparkles.” For color, which I do every 10-12 weeks, I stick close to my natural color and occasionally do high and low lights. It is a MUST for me to do Olaplex 3 after color, which is a hair bonder, not a conditioner. I leave in for 30 min, then deep condition with either Briogeo Don’t Despair or Curl Junky protein treatment. I deep condition about every two weeks after clarifying. I only use products that are sulfate and silicone free. My stylers, when going either straight or wavy, are usually a mousse and a light creme gel. Most curly girl products contain heat protectors, which is key if using high heat. I have reduced my heat usage considerably, so my hair appears healthy and shiny. My colorist has noted that my hair is quite healthy. The other things that affect hair are dew point, straight or curly. In very low or very high dews, our hair reacts to the water in the air. So watch for glycerin content and aloe content. There is a whole science to hair and those interested in a deep dive can do it in a blog called the science-yhairblog. Also you can spring for a hair analysis at My Mane Bio. I’ve done both and been directed to the right products for me. A fabulous conditioner for my colored hair is Innersense Color Radiance Conditioner. It is full of small proteins, which colored hair needs. You do need to fully rinse out, then add your styler. Those are my tips and I hope it helps others in their hair journey. Thanks, Erin!!
Thank you, Teresa! So glad you liked this video. Thank you for all of the great tips and tricks...I appreciate you sharing them with me and my community. xo
I am on chemo for immune suppression due to chronic illnesses. It has thinned my hair and dried it out. I do color my hair as well. I really like Joico’s defy damage line. It’s very hydrating but not heavy so it doesn’t weigh down your hair. Also it is sulfate free. Also Selenium and Zinc in addition to Biotin will help aid in hair growth.
Kerastase is amazing♥️both my daughter in laws and myself are hairdressers. I'm retired now but, we stand by this product a bit pricey but it goes along way. There is a line for each type of hair. Salons carry this product.
A conditioner with all natural ingredients is the Banana conditioner from the Body Shop, smells amazing too. Also agree with how freeing it is to stop colouring hair coloured my hair for years, I've got a great hair dresser who gave me a new cut & feel so good about my hair & embracing being gray wish I'd done it years ago.X
The reddy brown colour just after the light orange was great, at about 4 min mark. But should not wear lip colour like that when testing, just brings out the red tones more
Me, too! I used to love how shiny my hair looked after dying it. I had to stop because I developed a very bad reaction to it and I've never found anything else that made my hair gleam like that.
Hi Erin, Thank you for this video. I'm 64 and my hair is quite long (think Jane Seymour). It is natural honey blonde that has gotten a little darker as I have gotten older. I don't color it. My hair still looks blonde and any gray that is there blends in with the blonde. I use Johnson's Baby shampoo (life long) and discovered a wonderful conditioner on Amazon. It is called Paula's Choice Smooth Finish Conditioner. I tried it because it is fragrance free and perfumes bother me. This conditioner has made my hair super shiny. If I could attach a picture I would, but I just wanted to let you know about this wonderful conditioner. Sometimes with my shampoo I will dilute it with water and either put a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil in it or jojoba oil then shake it up and use. It is a moisturizing shampoo that you can use daily if you want to. Have a great week! xoxo, Karen
My hair is naturally red. I’m 57 n Nobody ever has the correct color because you can’t fake red hair 👩🏻🦰 I think everyone has their own things that could age them no matter how old they are.
I used to bring my poor teenage son in with me and tell them, that is my hair that I want back! We are auburn. Even when they got it right it would fade in four weeks and by then I would have roots anyhow. Red hair color fades quickly.
Another homerun video! BTW, I have been using Nutrafol for a 15 months now for my hair thinning (had a small bald spot last May due to hair trauma, too tight high buns) - it really has made a difference!
Hey Erin I thought about you yesterday I got my jeans I ordered from nordstrom, rag and bone, love them. I've heard you talk about them so I thought I'm doing it this year. Glad I did.
John Masters is great. They used to have an unscented line that I haven’t been able to find lately. I had to go gray in my 30s due to hair dye allergies. Oh well.
As Erin said check with your doctor! Some supplements have allergens in them. Marine collagen for example, shellfish is in it. Nut allergy? Many products use treenuts. THANK YOU ERIN, great advice💚💚💚
You do such a great work with all your videos , I really appreciate all the dedication, research and time you take to keep us all informed. Thanks a lot! Greetings from the Netherlands.
The temperature you wash your hair with and the food you eat have a big role in how good you look. I never have dry scalp/skin cause I wash with cold water. Plus downing collagen pills/powder is futile if your diet is unhealthy. Vitamin C is so important to get from natural food, not that ascorbic acid artificial stuff. God bless 😘
Hi Erin..great video as usual. If you like a lighter conditioner I love the Living Proof volume line. If you once in a while need a heavier conditioner the Living Proof Restore line has great conditioners, but that day you will not have a lot of volume, but it is a remarkable conditioner. xoxo Rita
Hi Erin, I started taking Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth as part of a cleanse and a side effect was a major improvement in my skin, nails and especially my hair. I've been taking 2 teaspoons of DE every day for 2 months. I've added it to my coffee to easily incorporate it into my diet and it has worked wonders. The texture of my hair had been dry and would fall off due to issues with stress, menopause and my thyroid. I could never do anything with my hair which you accurately mention is such a huge part of a woman's identity. After 2 months, it's fuller, healthier and the breakage is reduced significantly. Discovered that DE is an ingredient used in Hair/Skin/Nails supplements because it's silica. Even better, it has 0 calories and a large bag (avg 5lbs) costs between $10-$20. MAKE SURE it's "food grade" because regular DE is toxic to humans and animals. Sharing this in case you weren't aware.
I love Argon Magic shampoo and conditioner. With the conditioner, so it’s not too heavy, I put one plus a little more squirts in a plastic glass (I the shower) and add water to almost to the top and shake it up good. Then I pour it over my head and leave it on for 2 minutes while I brush my teeth. Next I rinse my hair really well. Next I towel dry before using my hair dryer and styling my hair. This leaves my hair soft and light and not heavy or greasy feeling in a day. Been doing it this way for 50+ years.
Another “on point” video. Something I really feel confident about is my hair game. Having a wonderful stylist who is equally gifted in cutting a fresh shag to a chic bob is so important as is mixing it up a little. As you said, color is so key. I know the most attractive look for me is a light ash brown roots (most like my natural color) and light ash blonde highlights. I think it looks natural, bright & youthful. I always go a little brighter for the warmer months too. I have thick, albeit finely textured, wavy hair that I tend to straighten. Oribe Straight Away Smoothing Blowout Cream is the best styling product I’ve ever used. My hair comes out frizz free and shiny but not weighed down. It’s a little pricey but it lasts and is totally worth it. There is also a built on heat protectant. I became quite familiar with the hair mask during months in quarantine and no hair cut. I used one by Saints & Sinners. It kept my hair from turning into a giant dreadlock! Having great hair is so key to a youthful look, Thank you, Erin!! 💕
In my case finding the right shade of hair color is hard enough! and once I find it it's really hard to prevent it from fading and looking brassy which happens about a week after the application.
I have a mix of c3 and c4 curls. I use joico damage control conditioner and I use big sexy hair conditioner. I only shampoo 1 time a week and condition 2xs a day. And I use the sexy hair split end serum.
Olaplex is worth the money! The only products that have worked on my hair. I have fine very wavy hair that is prone to breakage and frizz. I also do home Keratin treatments a couple times a year. I don’t need them as often as I used to but they make a huge difference in making hair look shiny and more youthful.
For some reason i dont know why but my hair is quiet thick and long. Even my Drs are baffled . My mum had chemo and only lost a little hair. Really hard to believe but very true. My sister through chemo lost all her hair. But she said she was to sick to care. Sad. But shes back to pretty good health considering. I put coconut oil on my scalp. I also use flaxseed oil. I do a deep cleanse and condtion once a week. . I get trims every 9 weeks but with covid havent been able to.. i ve been slack with all self care atm. Its really important for you ladies to look after yourselves. I love Erins videos. I really am so happy i came across her.
Erin, I just bought a shampoo and conditioner from Costco. I am a product junkie and will spend any amount on my hair. Recently I discovered CAROL'S DAUGHTER MONOI SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER. So the first time I used the shampoo which was only about a week and a half ago I said to myself there is no way this shampoo is going to make my hair look nice; there are no bubbles or anything. I then put on the conditioner rinsed it and let it dry naturally. I don't really use the blow dryer unless I'm going out. Woah!!! I have been completely blown away by this product. The shine, the texture, the bounce. It's amazing!!! I'm pretty sure it's clean.
Fun video! Didn't know there were tools to try on hair colors. Liked the slightly darker ashy blond - hides the ruddiness and makes roots less obvious. Erin, your natural color is gorgeous, so lucky! Could put a few highlights by face and call it done.
I'm letting the silver come in my blonde hair so now it's a kind of beigey colour I call greige. I can't tell you how many times I've been complimented on it. It might make me look older but stuff it, it is so much easier on the health and condition of my hair, not to mention, my wallet.
Nipping down here to the comments section mid-video...Erin, your point on consulting our doctors is an important one! Case in point, ashwaganda is a potent herb. I used it while under the care of a practicioner for a season and benefited greatly. Fast-forward to a later time, I added ashwaganda on my own for the day and had a terrible bout of insomnia. While we are each our own best health advocate, it is good practice to assemble a compatible team to move forward safely!
Shelley Carr, my sister was the same. She lost her beautiful dark curls. I offered to shave my head with her but she wouldn't let me. Her hair has now grown back and she feels more like herself, again. I wish the same for you, most sincerely.
I've had great success with glutathione. Ashwaganda is an adaptogen. I also just got one of those blow dry brushes from Sam's Club and it's pretty awesome for drying my hair straight.
I've been told countless times I look 20 years older than my age, so I'm trying to fix it - a lot of people say my hair ages me too (it's different from my avatar haha). I'm only 26, but I look ancient. Hoping this video will help!
Thank you for demo'ing the virtual hair color try-on! I haven't felt like myself for 10 years since I moved away from my hairdresser and started trying to DIY my hair color since nobody seemed to get it the right shade. Phew! I just tried it out and saw 'me'! I took a photo and will keep it so I have something to work from when salons open up in my area.💖
YES!! It makes a big difference. Your hair will probably grow faster. Collagen is so good for you besides skin, hair and nails. Glutathione (liposomal) helps too.
A wonderful clean hair product recommendation is Viori. My hair is noticeably thicker, longer and healthier since starting to use it. Even my hairdresser noticed!
Aging no way! I belong to two groups on FB devoted to going grey with members sporting beautiful grey, silver, white, gunmetal, salt & pepper, streaked you name it. I'm not trying to look 30; I'm proud of my salt & pepper, and my hubby stills thinks I'm hot
Sometimes it doesn’t actually age you, but other people’s perception of you is older! Gray hair is still associated with old age. So you could be 30 with premature grey hair, but people will probably think you are older because of it!
I'm a natural red/ Auburn.. tomorrow I plan on going lite brown, with a long bob, so excited. For this new look, always had long hair midback, 52, ready for the up left..
I am letting my natural silver hair color grow in and my husband’s crazy about it. He said to me last night, what’s going on, you’re getting younger! Lol. Yay! 🥰
One thing you didn't mention... There are shading powders available for women with major thinning, or small bald patches. There's not much worse than seeing the glare of a shiny, white scalp peering out between still dark brunette hair. Self-esteem killer. The powder is like eyeshadow for the scalp. One I know of is Great Hair Day(?) by Joan Rivers, available through QVC. Really makes going out in public a lot easier.
What about if you have gone grey (I'm 46 and had to stop dyeing my hair because I developed an intolerance / allergy to the dye). I was a natural dark brunette and I find that the assumption is that because I have grey hair, that I must be in my 50's, even though I think I don't look like I'm in my 50s. Any ideas on how to look more youthful with grey hair?
You are a doll! Love your channel, advice, and practical tips! You have impeccable style yoo! My hair is... well, there! I also don't wash my hair every day, yeah no. I will try the virtual hsircolor try on, as I'm now in my early 60"s and I still do not want to go totally grey. Your such a beautiful, passionate, and creative artist! I have thourgly loved your vids, and have bought many of the items you suggest! Your the best in the biz! A huge Thank-You for all of the time, expertise, and love of Fashion to me! Truly grateful! Can't wait for your promo of your new bag coming out! Exciting! Love You Erin! ❤🐝🐝🐝❤
Two years ago at this time, I was bald from chemo. It was absolutely devastating. But I made the best of it with different wigs. Had no choice. Actually my picture here, I’m wearing a wig. I am almost back to my pre cancer hair now. Thick and long 🙏🏼🙏🏼
So glad your health has improved, Lisa! Thank you for sharing. You look beautiful in your profile picture! xo
So happy you’re doing well! You look beautiful in that photo. Wigs have come such a long, long way.
I would have never thought that was a wig. You're beautiful and God bless you!
Looks good I hope you're better now

I agree. I thought the silver was gorgeous on Erin
I am letting my hair go gray, so far I like it! I love the contrast against my natural really dark hair. Great tips!
Wonderful! Glad you liked this one! xo
I let a piece of my hair go gray and love my streak. So you go girl
I am losing my hair so don't want to bleach now. I hope I can embrace my gray. We will see
I quit coloring 3 years ago and it was the best decision I made.
Same- I went natural at 37 and my hair has never been healthier!
Lucky you to have curls
Tip #5 is so true. Some women get stuck in a time warp. Having long hair isn’t always a good thing for some women. Not all long hair is equal. I’ve seen some woman shave off a decade with a great hair cut.
So true! xo
My hair looks 20 years younger than it did four. months ago. !!!!
What do you use the collagen powder in?
@@susanyakus3879 I mix the collagen in my coffee or a smoothie...it mixes well
Which colleges powder do you use?
@@serenity0091 which collagen is that?? I have tried a few that taste terrible and leave lumps in the liquid impossible to dissolve. I would love one tasteless I could add in my drink in the morning and off I go for the day. I would appreciate you could share the name of the one you use.
@@esn2130 I use Vital Proteins unflavored collagen. No taste and blends easily with a frother.
Great tips! Naturally curly hair does typically need a lot of product, which it seems most people dont talk about. To achieve healthy looking curls without frizz is the ultimate goal.
Yes! I usually apply a few drops of oil in the morning, and later in the day as well.
I’m curly to so I use a lot of products as well.
So true. Curly hair takes a lot of time and work
Thank you, Michelle! xo
Hi, Dr Eric Berg has a stack of UA-cam videos for natural treatments / supplements for hair fall and alike. If you ever want to go that path ❤
What ages folks isn't their hair color.
Yep, skin makes all the difference not hair color. This lady wouldn’t know that yet though.
Gray hair almost always ages people, I think. Or at least makes them look their age if they're a 40 yr old having a young looking like a 30 yr old face, with the gray hair they look at least 40. They can still look beautiful with gray hair though. :)
I started using Perfect 10 Leave-in Conditioner with Keratin and my dry hair feels soft. Also, WOW Dream Coat makes my hair really soft.
Good to know! Thank you for sharing, Anastasia! xo
I love WOW dream coat! Mine hair is super frizzy and wow is my secret sauce.
LOL
That's great! Glad you are loving it, Lisa! xo
I have had the same experience and I now have naturally wavy hair. I love not having to check if my hair roots need color.
I also like not having to cover gray line constantly!
one day, hopefully, we all will achieve witchdom ;)
Very cool. I'm going to have to try the virtual try on
You should...It's a very cool tool! xo
Love these pointers! My experience was very similar. I’m turning 53 in October. I tried a combination of:
1- Biotin Supplement
2-Keratin Shampoo
3-Coconut Oil Treatment once a week.
4-Collagen Powder
5-Hair Cut only every third month.
6-Air drying instead of a blowout
Thanks for all your advice and enthusiasm!
You're so welcome! Thank you for sharing, Diane! xo
If you don’t mind sharing... how many mcg’s of Biotin did you take to get results?
Do you put actual coconut oil on your hair?
I ditched the hair color 3 years ago! The absolute best decision ever it's so liberating not having to color every 3 weeks. However, my silver sparkles require purple shampoo like Purelogy as regular maintenance. My favorite hair mask is Kerastase.
Thank you for sharing, Yvonne! Purple shampoo can be a game changer for keeping grey hair shiny. xo
I use St. Tropica TruBloom Hair Growth Vitamins and it’s done wonders for my “menopause” hair. I highly recommend it.
Glad you found a color that works for you! The app is super cool, isn't it? xo
I agree with you...I do the same thing!
Great tip, Susan! xo
Does argon oil add brown tint to coloured hair?
I think the darker blonde, more towards your natural tone, is the most flattering on you. 😊
Great video, thank you!! I have embraced my gray hair. I went through breast cancer treatment five years ago, and after my hair began to grow back I decided not to color. I was 41 at the time. I really love it now and feel like I can have fun with the new color palette. My makeup is now different too. 😎
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm so happy you are enjoying your natural color and that your health has improved! Thank you for sharing, Elena! xo
I went natural a few years ago and I love it. Your hair color is gorgeous and I’m so happy that you have regained your health! I hope you stay cancer free❤️
love love the high waisted jean!!!!! with white tee. Where did you get them?!?!
Great tips, Samantha! xo
Well done, informative and actionable. One of the best videos I have seen on this subject. Bravo and thank you!
Wow, thank you! Glad it was helpful! xo
I started taking nutrafol four months ago and it has make such a difference, not only has my hair grown it feels thicker and my nails are long again.
That's great to hear! Thank you so much for sharing! xo
I think your comparison is about good to better. This color try on is about finding the best color for your skin.
I do agree that women often pick colors that are less flattering than their natural color. That is why it is so important to really get the shade right if you decide to use color. I think it's great that you are loving your silver hair! xo
I’m almost 52 and respectfully disagree with MoonBaby
I agree doing your hair darker when you're older does not look good.
Great tip! Thank you for sharing! xo
I work for a dermatologist and we recommend viviscal for hair thinning.
I’ve used that wonderful product and still do. Absolutely great
Great product, if you have fish allergies do not use .
Where do you get it?
Thanks so much, this was brilliant. I'm in my 30s but I'm finding your channel has such great content even for younger people that get stuck in a rut or are transitioning into their mid to late 30s. Such good tips on changing up your hair styles!
Thank you SO much, Gina! Glad you find my videos helpful! xo
Definitely great advice! Thank you for sharing, Sheri! xo
My hair loss was due to an iron deficiency too. I am seeing a dermatologist and she is helping me to get it healthy again. She recomended me Nutrafol and I am just starting to take it.
Hypothyroidism can cause hair loss too and its a very common issue for both male and females.
sign of low iron can be loosing eyebrows hair ..
Very helpful!!
My hairstylist also advised
using shampoo just once a week
on my fine, highlighted hair.
Also recommended trying an updo towards the end of that week
if it feels uncomfortably oily.
My hair is now much less brittle, even after this blazing hot summer!
I would've likely never tried that
without pro advice.
Thank you for all of the great tips and tricks...I appreciate you sharing them with me and my community. xo
The red looked amazing on you! Brought out a vibrant glow. I may be biased though as I love red hair.
Thank you, Joy! xo
I agree
I thought so too. Looked awesome!
I'll have to check that one out. Thank you for sharing, Sarah! Wishing you the very best with your health! xo
Kerastase is amazing♥️both my daughter in laws and myself are hairdressers. I'm retired now but, we stand by this product a bit pricey but it goes along way. There is a line for each type of hair. Salons carry this product.
Thanks for sharing, Alexis!! I also love Kerastase products! xo
This product is the best!! Worth the money
Thanks for making realistic videos geared towards women over forty...not frumpy yet age appropriate. Keep them coming. 💛
You are so welcome! xo
I loved loved loved this hair color virtual try on!!!!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗
But should not wear lip colour like that when testing, just brings out the red tones more
Great comments, Erin. Love your practical approach to everything...
I lovd my hair after a color process. It seems to clarify the product and mineral buildup in my hair.
Have a great week! xoxo, Karen
Thank you so much for sharing, Karen! So glad you liked this one! xo
Thanks for sharing! That's amazing, Michelle! Thank you! xo
Hey Erin I thought about you yesterday I got my jeans I ordered from nordstrom, rag and bone, love them. I've heard you talk about them so I thought I'm doing it this year. Glad I did.
Great video and comments! Could you do a video for those of us with shorter hair? I need ways to “change it up” sometimes. Thanks!
Thank you, Carol! I did a video when I had shorter hair. I'll link it here for you: ua-cam.com/video/lMBpetkZeQA/v-deo.html
You are so welcome! xo
Hi would you share the hair color and brand you used - it is gorgeous !!!!!!
If you once in a while need a heavier conditioner the Living Proof Restore line has great conditioners, but that day you will not have a lot of volume, but it is a remarkable conditioner. xoxo Rita
Great tip, Rita! Thank you! xo
Great tips...always try to switch up my hair...it really does make a difference! Hugs, Joye
It really does! xo
"That is not. How. We. Roll." Amen, sister!
Hi Erin, I think the results of the virtual try-on would have been more effective had you worn a neutral shade lipstick.
Unfortunately, when you wear white clothing next to your hair and face, it messes with the colors that show up on film as well.
That hair color checker is fantastic! I'm going to play with it for fun.
I agree...so much fun! Enjoy, Barbara! xo
Is there a link to the virtual try on?
No joke, I think the silver looked great on you. It needs to be a light silver.
Thank you! xo
I agree! It evens out the redness.
I totally agree, the silver really looked stellar on her! ^_^
I agree.
So interesting! Thank you for sharing! xo
@@BusbeeStyle you are so welcome!
Side note food grade DE is the natural way I got rid of fleas in our home. I used both baking soda and DE on 2 floors of my home.Worked like a charm
Love your summer blonde! I do the same, a little blonder in the summer months, or i'll do blonder highlights on my blonde and that looks great!
Thank you, Judy! xo
I have been using Living Proof Perfect Hair Day weightless masque for about a month now, and it has really helped to make my hair softer and shinier!
That's great! Thank you for sharing, Meredith! xo
I’m a natural blonde and as the decades roll on, I will maintain that colour even if I have to resort to highlights at some point!
You’re killing me with your comment “straight up witch!”
Thank you, Paula! Great product suggestions. I'm familiar with all of them and you are on point with your recommendations! xo
Great video Erin, I highly recommend Bhringraj oil for thinning hair! It’s an all natural Ayurvedic treatment. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you, Marion! I'll have to check that out! xo
You are so right about color and while going gray may be great for some of us not everyone can pull it off
I am liking several products from “better not younger”. I ordered from them directly.
This was one of your very best videos, so helpful and that virtual hair colour site was brilliant.
Glad it was helpful and so happy to hear that you liked this one! xo
I agree! Glad it's working for you! xo
I think you would look fab as a strawberry blonde with lots of tones x
Thank you for sharing, Mickey. I have heard wonderful things about that line! xo
I find conditioner clogs my pores and makes it itchy and greasy too soon. Usually just do the ends.
Fun video! Didn't know there were tools to try on hair colors. Liked the slightly darker ashy blond - hides the ruddiness and makes roots less obvious. Erin, your natural color is gorgeous, so lucky! Could put a few highlights by face and call it done.
Thank you, Susan! xo
Yes, I totally agree. I hope and believe that I have made that point clear for my audience. xo
It is I who am agreeing with you!!
I never knew the affect losing my hair to chemo would have on me! It was devastating.
I'm sure, Shelley...so much of our identity is in our hair. I hope your health has improved! xo
Shelley Carr, my sister was the same. She lost her beautiful dark curls. I offered to shave my head with her but she wouldn't let me. Her hair has now grown back and she feels more like herself, again. I wish the same for you, most sincerely.
Re: clean shampoo and conditioner - I have been using Unwrapped Life shampoo and conditioner bars for almost a year now and they are AMAZING.
I think both the blonde and the gray looked great and you looked the same age.
I've had great success with glutathione. Ashwaganda is an adaptogen. I also just got one of those blow dry brushes from Sam's Club and it's pretty awesome for drying my hair straight.
Great suggestions! Thank you for sharing, Christine! xo
I've been told countless times I look 20 years older than my age, so I'm trying to fix it - a lot of people say my hair ages me too (it's different from my avatar haha). I'm only 26, but I look ancient. Hoping this video will help!
I hope you find this helpful! xo
72 here; wish I looked 46! Lol
So have I 🙄
Thank you for demo'ing the virtual hair color try-on! I haven't felt like myself for 10 years since I moved away from my hairdresser and started trying to DIY my hair color since nobody seemed to get it the right shade. Phew! I just tried it out and saw 'me'! I took a photo and will keep it so I have something to work from when salons open up in my area.💖
You are so welcome! xo
Have you noticed a difference in your skin with the calogen supplement?
Some ladies can get away with looking good of the grey is the right color but I personally think it always ages.
Lol. Yay! 🥰
That's amazing! xo
Lovely..💖💖💖thats a good man
One thing you didn't mention...
That's a great tip! Thank you for sharing! xo
Thx, Erin, I plan on fighting every damn wrinkle!!! 👊🏼💪🏼
I'm with you, Shella! xo
The gray dress, with the ruching & knot, is …wow…fabulous! Where did you source that?
What about if you have gone grey (I'm 46 and had to stop dyeing my hair because I developed an intolerance / allergy to the dye). I was a natural dark brunette and I find that the assumption is that because I have grey hair, that I must be in my 50's, even though I think I don't look like I'm in my 50s. Any ideas on how to look more youthful with grey hair?
I am a part of a great group over on Facebook called Gray and proud. Lots of great support and tips there!
lowlights done in foils so as not to touch your scalp...and most important don't let it look frizzy
