I'm sure your research turned up that she won Female Vocalist of the Year, many years in a row. You need to treat yourself to her song, A Broken Wing. She hits the last note in the song, hard, and carries it into the next day.
Yep. They toned her voice down in the mix on her recordings. Seeing her live, her voice would just explode with intensity, all completely under control and nuanced with feeling. Just one of the best singers I've ever heard. Unbelievably good.
Martina is one of my favorite country artists. “Independence Day” you should also check out. She’s fantastic!!! She gives me chills when I hear her sing.
Yes, when that song came out… wow! What an impression she made! And the subject is definitely not what you might think based on the song title. But when I think of her, that is still the song that first comes to mind.
I have heard her live when I was stationed in Fort Campbell. She can blow out speakers with that voice! Also, I enjoy the fact that you can hit those high notes!
Saw her in 1998 at an open air venue, she sat on the edge of the stage, put down her mic and started singing Whatever You Say and we heard her clearly in the nosebleed seats. Most amazing show I ever went to.
I've seen Martina several times live, from before her first album debut... She's Never, Ever missed a note in any performance I've seen with my own eyes and heard with my own ears. She was always phenomenal!
She is a huge Pat Benatar fan & they have sung together, which is fantastic! I saw Martina live - she gives what you think is all & suddenly goes beyond that point so it takes your breath away! She’s amazing!
I discovered Martina McBride back in 1995 when CMT was still on in the UK. I discovered a whole load of fantastic new music through that channel. I saw Martina live in Manchester the following year. Absolutely fantastic!
Where Would You Be - This is one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite singers , just beautiful and powerful and haunting and lovely, very romantic to boot , Yeah Martina McBride !
I am VERY picky with my Christmas music, listening mostly to Josh Groban and Karen Carpenter, with Bing Crosby and Mel Torme to bring back the good old days, but I ran across Martina’s of O Holy Night a few years ago and it is spectacular. The best version I’ve ever heard.
I'm picky when it comes to Christmas music. I like Martina's album. I would suggest Tarja Turunen's "From Spirits and Ghosts (Score For A Dark Christmas)". As the name says, it has a darker mood and sound, but it's a more serious take on Christmas, and is the most pure album from a "what is Christmas?" perspective. And her voice is as good as it gets.
Being a rock guy most of my life this lady got me into country her voice is one of a kind because of you I hope she gains more fans in the UK thank you for showcasing this amazing singer!
Some other huge female country artists you may not know but want to check out are Patty Loveless, Suzy Bogguss (especially), Pam Tillis, and Tanya Tucker.
Martina is the best singer I've heard live. It was a rainy show in a 30k capacity outdoor venue and only like 3 or 4 thousand people showed up, everyone got seats under the pavilion. I was working security and she just crushed it for 2 hours.
I love Martina. I went 600 miles to see her at the Ryman on Valentine's Day with the Nashville orchestra. As far as huge artists in one country and not another. It's America's SHAME that Slade never broke here. One of the best bands ever. Thankfully, I bought Slayed when it was released and was hooked for life.
I"m in America and love Slade! Although I found them because I grew up in the era when Quiet Riot covered their songs, then later found the originals which were so much better!

you said it yourself - COUNTRY music. They don't have the genre over there. It's mostly US - some Canada (Shania, Terri Clark). What Brit? About the closest is Olivia Newton John's early days, close to 50 years ago, and when she was over here.
I saw a comment stating that Martina McBride got her start, after Pat Benatar "blew her away, on her own song". Yeah, uh, no. She got her start from Garth Brooks. And her "Independence Day" vocal? One of the best out there. Love to see you do an analysis of the chorus of that song. She has a great voice. Saw her live, years ago, when I still lived in CA. It was a smaller venue, and I was maybe 10 feet from her. I sat, stunned, listening to her hit these notes, LIVE. On independence day? Absolutely amazing vocalist in her power, her range, and also the subtlety she can bring as well. She can belt out the high notes and still give delicate expression. Incredible.
Martina has been my favorite country singer for decades, hope that more people get hip to her with your help. I love country singers who can flat out sing.
I heard Martina McBride about 15 years ago at a free concert she gave at Lone Star Park, a horse track in Grand Prairie Texas. May have been further back than that. She sounded wonderful live. Very nice lady, beautiful, and very very nice.
Yup- she is as good live as in the studio. We saw her live several years ago and couldn’t believe the sound and pitch control in what was certainly a very basic sound system for a small outdoor venue.
…and I have a strong dislike for all the auto tuned garbage out there which lowers the bar for people who want to be “professional” singers. She’s legit!
The voice monitor ("The lines DON'T lie") and your analysis only proves that my love and appreciation of her powerhouse voice was not without justification! I'm so sorry you've only just discovered her, but please give a listen to "Independence Day", "Concrete Angel" and/or "A Broken Wing." She is amazing and debuted before auto-tune. Great singer/song choice, analysis and education (as always!) 👍
I love the same powerhouse performances that everyone else does (Independence Day, A Broken Wing, Concrete Angel, etc.), but I also like when she shows a sense of humour and fun positivity (My Baby Loves Me, I Love You, When God-Fearin' Women Get the Blues), and her fire-em-up bangers (Reckless, Life #9, Ride). She can pull off inspirational without being preachy, and some days that just hits right, even for those of us that don't ascribe to religion. Edited for truly atrocious autocorrect goofs. 😁
I've loved her for 20 yrs. Lol. Powerhouse!!!😉🥰⚡⭐♨️Glad u covered her, thanks for reminding me. Pure voice & emotion, gives me chills every time 🦄💕💛🧡🎶Another great old country voice...Jo Dee Messina, Burn.
Whoa - maintaining that volume in her upper range does get one's attention. I think you have said several times earlier that alot of country music doesn't make it "across the pond".
Here are some of the lyrics from Independence Day From Martina McBride. Let the weak be strong. Let the right be wrong. Roll the stone away. Let the guilty pay. It’s Independence Day 👍
I live in Arkansas ,USA ,where country music is a big deal. and I never took time to listening to M Mbride , but, now that I hear how awesome she is I will wll be searching her out to enjoy more. Thank yoU. £
She’s my favorite all time female country singer. My wife and I sang a duet of “I was born to give my love to you” 25 years ago for our wedding as my lovely wife walked down the isle.
I have all her albums and have seen her in concert so many times over the years. Not only does she have a powerful voice, but give a listen to some of her softer stuff. She has a beautiful voice, and is by far one of my favorite artists in any genre. Thanks for this analysis, Fil👍
She was on a the show Crossroads with Pat Benatar and sang Promises in the Dark with Pat. Blew me away! My favorite version of the song. Unfortunately it is not on UA-cam anymore and I haven't found how to purchase the show..... yet. If you get a chance to see it you'll understand. Absolutely amazing!
😍 I hadn't heard this one before & WOW! I can FEEEEL every word she's singing! Even WITH all the stop & go Martina keeps tugging on my tear ducts! Her delivery is not only ACES, it's also HEARTFELT & SOUL-FULL! Thank you for sharing Fil!🤗💖
Imagine my thrill when I saw the title and knew you were going to cover the song I requested! I'm so happy you found her voice as awesome as I did. I always suspected the change in key made it harder for her to hit the higher note, and now I find I was right, for the most part. I saw her live here in NY state several years ago, two nights in a row in different cities, and she did not sing "Where Would You Be" the second night, from what I've read due to the fact that she can (or will) only sing it when she's well-rested and is confident she can hit the notes. The playlist in the two shows were otherwise identical.
Thank you for doing Martina. She is one of my all time favorites. I knew she was a great singer. I could hear that, now I’ve seen it too! I agree with everyone who has recommended Independence Day for you to analyze (or at least for your own personal journey of discovering what Martina can do). That song never fails to bring me to tears, a powerful message delivered by a beautiful voice. Thank you Fil for teaching me so much about music through these videos.
Martina McBride is another great country singer. She does amazing music. Thanks for sharing this analysis video. Hope you have a Happy Easter. Cheers, Fil! ✌️
"Night is fallin in my heart" (Diamond Rio) "Anymore" (Travis Tritt) "Goodbye says it all" (Blackhawk) "Why not me" and "Love is alive" ( The Judd's) "Southern Star" (Alabama, one of there over 40 hits!) "I cross my heart" (George Strait, one of his, more then 60 hits!) "Friends in low places" (Garth Brooks)
This just shows you that you need to step out of your comfort zone from time to time. I am an American but don't listen to a lot of country. I know who she is, but haven't heard that much of her music. She just blew me away. Thanks for introducing me to a "new" artist. Love your videos so much.
So much to say. I think I may have asked you to do this song in the past. The first time I heard this song ever.. was when me and my wife saw her live at radio City music Hall in 2007 in New York. When she did this song everybody was on their feet.. men were practically weeping with how incredible she was. I get the chills every time I hear it. We also saw her Christmas show at a small venue on Long Island that used to be called Westbury music Fair. She sang o holy night acapella. You can probably find that performance on UA-cam.. she has so many songs where she holds notes like this.. I can't say enough about how incredible she is.. thanks for doing this song.Fil 🤗👍
Martina sure can blow the doors out of the joint! I like the lack of vocal gymnastics with those held notes. Martina was huge back in the day but opted to spend more time at home with her family. She definitely had the talent to be a Carrie, a Whitney or a Dolly.
Man, I love these analysis video's Fil! It separates the real deal from the phonies. It is hard to believe that Martina isn't bigger in the UK considering that your countrymen & women seem to enjoy country music and Kacey Musgraves played Royal Albert. I'm sure everyone in the comments is listing off all the great songs she has released, but Concrete Angel is not only more great Martina sound, but the lyrics behind the song are simply heart wrenching! And oh yeah...she's DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!!
There is a female Brit that I nagged to do a review of Martina and she never would. I'm glad you did ,it was cool hearing your analysis. Next one up ,the male equivalent is a singer named Randy Houser. Unbelievable power !!!
i love many kinds of music, but i have to say that there was some great country music in the 80s-90s, early 2000s. i also think that probably a lot of those are not well known in the UK, because of being country music. Diamond Rio, Black Hawk, Travis Tritt, The Judds( my favorite female mother daughter duo ever), Alabama, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Randy Travis,.....just to name a few.!
I'm sure your research turned up that she won Female Vocalist of the Year, many years in a row. You need to treat yourself to her song, A Broken Wing. She hits the last note in the song, hard, and carries it into the next day.
Yes yes yes
Agreed!!!!🥰😎❣❣❣👏👏👏
You beat me to it, that is one of her best.
Another song I love is “When God Fearin’ Women Get the Blues”
@@stevemoore9984 heck yeah!
I saw her in concert. She's a little bitty thing but she could blow the roof off the arena. There are very few voices like hers.
Agreed. Her and Pat Benatar...tiny ladies, blow the roofs off everywhere!!🔊🎶🎤🌬🔥💜😁🗯
The only other female country singer that can rival her power is Jennifer Nettles.
@@volo1826 negative
@@volo1826 how about Carrie Underwood. Her performance of How Great Art Thou gave me chills.
Yep. They toned her voice down in the mix on her recordings. Seeing her live, her voice would just explode with intensity, all completely under control and nuanced with feeling. Just one of the best singers I've ever heard. Unbelievably good.
She is the best female singer in modern country music. She has so many monstrous live performances.
That depends if you count Alison Krauss as a modern country music performer.
@@craenor or you could appreciate both of their styles. Alison Krauss is Blue Grass and amazing!

She is the BEST singer Period!!!
And it could have been even more but she was dedicated to her family.
When seeing her live you can't help but wonder how all that sound comes from such a small lady. She is absolutely incredible.
The BEST ever!!!
Her greatest song is “Independence Day.” I remember back when she signed autographs at a tire store in my hometown.
Her live vesrion of Over the Rainbow from the Martina album is her best song, the best female performance ever!!!
Martina is one of my favorite country artists. “Independence Day” you should also check out. She’s fantastic!!! She gives me chills when I hear her sing.

I agree with checking out "Indepedance Day". It's always been my personal favorite song of hers.
Oooooh, that is a good song! I think that was the first Martina McBride song I ever heard in high school.
Same Here! She is absolutely incredible!! And has brought me to tears so many times
Yes -- you should review "Independence Day" -- one of the best choruses !
I have heard her live when I was stationed in Fort Campbell. She can blow out speakers with that voice! Also, I enjoy the fact that you can hit those high notes!
The lady with the deepest blue eyes ever, swoon. One of my favorite female country artists.
Can you name a few more favorites? I liked her so I'm looking forward to get to know more good country singers.
I love watching your face while you are listening. Your love of good music is so obvious. Keep 'em coming!

Saw her in 1998 at an open air venue, she sat on the edge of the stage, put down her mic and started singing Whatever You Say and we heard her clearly in the nosebleed seats. Most amazing show I ever went to.
Her rendition of God Bless America after 9/11 was the best I ever heard.
She does a song called “Anyway” that’s just amazingly well done.
I love Martina! She’s a Kansas girl!
She sure is. She used to work at the Dairy Queen!

Another great singer!
Martina sure can blow the doors out of the joint! I like the lack of vocal gymnastics with those held notes. Martina was huge back in the day but opted to spend more time at home with her family. She definitely had the talent to be a Carrie, a Whitney or a Dolly.
The best voice in country music!
My fav is Independence Day, what a song.
She is amazing!
Glad you discovered Martina, Fil, I heard her when working in the US, do yourself a favour and listen to a song called A Broken Wing - Unbelievable!
Lots of fans here of country, she's talented I'll have to listen to her song A Broken Wing.
Some others you may not be familiar with in the UK, check out Edgar and Johnny Winter Tobacco Road. They are both phenomenal
i love many kinds of music, but i have to say that there was some great country music in the 80s-90s, early 2000s. i also think that probably a lot of those are not well known in the UK, because of being country music. Diamond Rio, Black Hawk, Travis Tritt, The Judds( my favorite female mother daughter duo ever), Alabama, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Randy Travis,.....just to name a few.!
Love Martina, this helps understand why. Great vid again.
