A little tip to help with a vintage wood look and feel. Get a wire brush wheel for a drill and use it on the surfaces around the writing. It scrapes away the softer part of the wood and leaves the harder parts. Gives the look and feel of reclaimed barn wood.
Yes that actually works very well to Age wood also thanks for sending the tip here for my followers
Nice idea...look forward to trying that!
🙏
Quick question…what type of printer do you use for transferring words onto your boards w mod podge?
I have a brother LaserJet printer that I’ve had for about five years works perfect
This video has so many good hints and tips. I really enjoyed them all. The projects were very good. I didn’t know that so many are really easy to make and look like they cost more. Thank you for sharing with us.
Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed Donna
I just love these videos using wood, a great medium for crafting. Keep em coming. Hope they’ll be some for Christmas too. I dying to use my new scroll saw on anything at this point, and of course your painting techniques are the best! I’m excited to get started! Thanks for being so diversified!
Yes I’ll be doing lots of Christmas videos with scrapwood stay tuned
What scroll saw did you purchase if you don’t mind. I’m
About ready to by one. I’m in a woodworking group and on a couple of wood working group sites, and now following here too
Are your cutting boards strictly decorative, or are they food safe?
Thanks
These are all just decorative
Every video I have watched of yours something in it blows my mind ☺️. First, tje reverse transfer method, brilliant, no more stick on letter, etc, my laser printer and good to go ❤️❤️❤️. Those tags, again brilliant! So simple and beautiful ❤️❤️❤️. Thanks for sharing Deirdre, and spreading joy!
I apologize for mispelling your name Deidre
Thanks for watching Terri so glad you enjoyed❤️
Another great video! I'm like you, I don't throw any wood away. I have to threaten my husband sometimes. I love these signs & the cutting board. Now I wish I had a laser printer! I made your air dry clay this morning. Turned out fantastic. I had tried another one before & it turned out to be a greasy mess! I'm sticking with yours! Yes your editing has gotten better. I don't think you can improve it anymore! You've got this! Love love love watching your videos. See you next time. God bless you. 🥰
Lol, I have to do the same with my husband, too!!😂🤣
I have threatened mine MANY times😂 I also have a secret stash so he can stop calling me a hoarder. 😬
@@jumblefuq0 They should know if you're a crafter......You're a hoarder! 😊
So glad you’re enjoying the videos I appreciate the support that is a fantastic air dry clay recipe always works out really well for me. And I always have quite a hoarder stash on the go myself
Wow! This was so helpful. I'm doing my first big craft fair in November, and was looking for something else to add! Your way of explaining, and sharing of tips to be a successful vendor is much appreciated.
So glad it was helpful Helen thanks so much for watching and good luck at your craft fair in November
Great projects! I made numerous rustic coasters but they don't sell. $10 for the set of 4. I'm not sure why. I'm in Ontario in a small town of Ilderton, people are not supportive here. I have a show coming up in Thorndale, hopefully it will be better.
Nothing is selling for me like it was on fb market place 😕. Sorry yours didnt sell.
@@cheryla0428 thanks! Same here, market place is not the same as it was 2 years ago. It's really hard to sell items.
Yes some areas can be very difficult and I find you have to have a product that is not easily re-created because people will think that they can just make it themselves that’s why on a lot of my DIY projects that sell really well are use my graphics on them and people are not sure how to re-create that so they are more likely to buy
Know your market..🎯. Now you know, rustic or super simple does not sale. So up your craft.
Thank you! I have a box of shutter slats I was saving and now I have inspiration for what to do with them.
Perfect glad to inspire
I would love to know where you are selling your items. My husband has made several coat hanger boards in cherry and walnut that are stunning and not one nibble online. He makes ladders out of branches and gorgeous farmhouse benches with walnut and red oak. Nothing. It's very discouraging.
I sell all my items locally. I am very fortunate that way.
I love all of your videos. I was cleaning the garage today & found a stash of scrap wood that I forgot I had. Yay!! I keep the garage decided by a curtain for garage sales. I had some health issues last summer, so I didn't have any sales. I got a very small booth last March, so I'm excited to have wood to make signs & decor. Now I need a printer
Glad to inspire thanks for watching
I've found out my local library uses a laser jet printer so I can try the midge podge transfer 😁
Oh cool!
If you use the shiny backing paper from self adhesive labels to reverse print on (with laser printer) it comes away without all the bother of rubbing after the Mod Podge dries.
I love every single project. I am doing my 1st craft fair in December '22 and these ideas are GREAT!!! I'm on the hunt for Dupli-Color Engine Enamel Clear now & found it at a local Farm & Barn store!!! YAY! Thank you, as always, for sharing the wealth & knowledge!
So glad the video was helpful and good luck at your craft fair thanks for watching
I keep all these pieces on hand also. Great …..GREAT idea! Thank you!

Hi, this is your subscriber from MN. Big fan of your creativity! Could you please share ideas, to repurpose laminate wood flooring planks?
Hi there so glad you’re enjoying my videos I have never repurposed any wood flooring planks if I ever come across some I will make a video
THANKS for the reminder to do up some scrap wood projects! Just grabbed some of your graphics on Etsy....I was wondering how to spend that last few $$ of my gift card! I have used the method you use to transfer designs before with varied success. I did it with floral prints and copied them at a local fedex with colored laser ink. Some of the color rubbed off too but it worked to make it more vintage. Out to the garage tomorrow. I just happened across your channel recently and really enjoy it. I love to up-cycle and flip furniture and anything I can find. It drives my husband crazy. I have about 100 little OUI yogurt jars. Trying different things with them, great vanity jars for cotton swabs/balls. Would like to see your ideas for them.
So glad you’re finding lots of inspiration here I appreciate your support here on my channel when I have an object and I’m not sure what to do with it I always go to Pinterest to find inspiration

Truly amazing. I love this tutorial and you explained everything very nicely making so easy to understand. Amazing ideas. P.S. I followed your instructions on the candy corn bottle and applied the polyacrylic clear coat and it turned out perfect. Thank You So Very Much for the advice. J.R.

What is a chalk paint brush you can wash and keep reusing
I’m finding if I keep buying cheap brushes and washing them the bristles just start falling out. It is not sustainable. So maybe I should invest in more expensive chalk paint brushes so after washing them they don’t fall apart
Is there a brand you recommend?
I love Wooster brushes
Hello
Love everything about you and your videos
I purchased your download clip art script for signs and for these small tags. I scored a bunch of free shutter wood for your tags with the small bead but the wood was treated
Can I still put chalk paint on them??
Ye you should be able too!
Cute ideas.
Speaking of crafts fairs...i have a poblem with customers and other vendors asking, what did you use to make this, what stitch is this , among others. And most of the time i see them at the next craft fair in that location and priced lower than mine. Question is, how do i get around not telling them my directions? Or should i make a "polite" sign on my table? I dont mind telling them, if, they are from out of town and wont be competition. Tia

Do you have any ideas for some 2x2 scraps? We have some leftover pieces from our deck railing. For the life of me, I can't think of anything. They are so small, I just have no imagination! Thanks :)
They could be turned into little shop sitters that would be a good project to paint, and then add a graphic on it
Lovely ideas, thank you,I will be looking at bits of wood differently now
I never throw out any scrap pieces of wood thanks for watching
Deidre, do you have a video link on how you made the tags on the coasters? I may have overlooked it when I searched through your videos. Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge!!

awesome tutorial.....i have 4 spring craft fairs coming up...got alot of new and very cool ideas here...can you cut food on the cutting boards or are they just decorative..how should i seal them after the stain? or is sealing not necessary....are they food safe... if just stained? thanks
The ones that I have made here are for decor only if you’re making cutting boards to use you have to make sure you get the right type of wood and a food grade oil to seal them with. Thanks for watching.
Thank you.
Loved all the projects.
Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed Sylvia
Two questions. Are those shutter pieces about the thickness of paint sticks? I get those for free at Home Depot and use them all the time. They are also good for the back braces for signs. And also, the coasters, do you put felt or cork to protect the furniture? I love your videos..
Yes they would work great
Thank you for showing these amazing projects ! ❤️❤️

For your reverse transfer method, do you have to use an ink jet printer? Thanks!
No it actually works fast without LaserJet printer
They are shutter SLATS , not slots.
I love the make and sell you do, can see you really enjoy it 💝👍
Thanks for watching the video glad you enjoyed
If I understood correctly, the words must be written from back to front and printed in such a way that the word would appear normally on a piece of wood?
Exactly
Simple and wonderful ideas👍👍, I like it 😍😍

Craft shows usually have entry fees which must be overcome before there is any profit made.
Yes you would have to take that into consideration when you were pricing
Yes exactly right. Whenever I did craft shows many moons ago, my first goal of the day was to recoup the cost of my stall or table.
Once I did that, I was a happy camper.
Do you have a tutorial for doing the paper graphic, at the 6 minute mark? That is amazing

Engine enamel sounds like something I wouldn't have near food or drinks 😅

Thank you. I wish this came out on 8 track many years ago. You are right for standing up.
1) Balls, Canada is expensive! 😱(Though you do have a higher GNP per capita, so a higher average standard of living than the States, so you've got that going for you! lol)
2) I love these ideas! Gosh, the shutter slat idea?! Shut.up. I just saw some free shutters on fb or craigslist & couldn't think of a quick turnaround idea for them & didn't want tons of stuff taking up space in the garage. This is more work than just painting or decorating a shutter for a wall decor, but also loads more income potential. Thanks for that! And the "shelf sitters?" Well, I've definitely got some pieces in my scrap bin in the garage that would work for those. Awesome ideas & tips! Thank you!!! 😍🥰🙏
Excuse me while I go see if those shutters are still available! 😉 (Also, I'll have to check again if Home Depot or other local hardware/home improvement stores have the free scrap cuts bin. Haven't found them before, & even the "oops" or deformed wood is selling at a higher price than standard lumber was 2 yrs ago!!!)
I hope you were able to snag those shutters because I do turn into really adorable ornaments thanks for watching
is the Engine Enamel non toxic. I can just see a 1 year old grabbing one of those coasters and putting it in their mouth. Will that harm them?
I am unsure in that situation he would have to check it out thanks for Watching
Would you let kids put an engine block in their mouth? It is toxic!
Hey honey! U KNOW ur our hero and I adore EVERYTHING u do!!! But please consider leaving the tips on the shutter thingies. Feel they add character! Trimmed they just look like trim wood from big box store and it will save a step! Thank u so much!
That’s a great idea I should do some of those leaving the tips on glad you enjoyed the video
Dear Diedre, I ordered your chalk paint recipe book on Etsy on 10/29 and haven’t received it yet. I know things are crazier than they used to be for mail, etc. just want to make sure the order was received. I’ve never purchased via Etsy before. If there’s an email or more appropriate way to contact...please advise. Thank you! I’m learning so much from your videos
Hi there thanks so much for purchasing the recipe book. This is not a material look like that will be mailed to you. This is a digital download that would have been sent to your email and then you print it off at home on your own computer if you message me over on Etsy with your order, I can help you out.
I went to Home Depot just yesterday and asked about those wood scraps. That’s the key word, scraps, on the small side, but the bigger pieces were not free. Granted they were 70% off, but NOT FREE! You’d think they’d be happy to get rid of the pile of odd pieces of wood taking up space.
Ya you would think? At least they are still giving a good percentage off!
Hi again Diedra!! I have been preparing for my 1st Craft Show in October... I have a couple of questions... I've been picking up EVERY piece of wood I see for free or next to nothing... I recently found a television armoire that had fallen out of a pickup truck ( I guess...) But it HUGE and only has a couple of pieces busted off it.. but the whole sides ( 3 ft wide 6ft tall) are in perfect shape! The shelves inside it are the same way... I know I can make signs with it. But my question is... Can you use pressed wood to make bread boards?
I find that the pressboard is probably not the best wood to make into breadboards but they definitely turn into fantastic signs
Hi,
You make lovely crafts. Where do you sell the items you make in these videos?
Hi! I have a local store near me that picks up a lot of my signs that I make :)
@@OurUpcycledLife Thank😊
Shutters was a big bright idea!! Lots of free smalls, at my local woodturning class.
I am in the money.....😊
Wonderful!
Great job. Wondering how you decided the overall size of the piece. I have a small cross to use as a template but I didn't want it too big/small for the overall size. I'll be adding a Bible verse as well. Thanks
I don’t really have a certain size I just make all kinds of random sizes whatever I’m feeling that day
Thanks for your videos and the referral code. I just got my $8.00 cash back.
Amazing!! Thanks for watching :)
Have you ever used plywood for bread boards... Or does it look too cheap? Maybe if I paint it vs stain?
I’m not sure if that would be the best type of wood to use for breadboards

Such wonderful and so nice ideas! Thank you for sharing your creativity!
You are so welcome!
Does your mod podge technique work on rough boards ie old fence boards that have a great patina already but are bumpy
It can be really tricky trying to do this technique on rough boards because he would have to get all the paper off in the little grooves I’ve done it and it was not a fun job
I just found your channel and I am hooked. Thank you for sharing your knowlegde.

How do you know what to charge? I make items and dont know what to price them at. Thanks
It’s very hard to say what somebody should charge for the DIY’s because every area is different. What I usually do is go to Etsy find a comparable product and then price from there
I so loving you're videos! Never look at crafts the same way!

I want to make wood coasters with scrapbook paper tops, can the engine enamel be used for sealer? Does it yellow? Using paper should I use a different sealer??? Tia
@Lorienutter
If she is unable to reply- please Google & keep just putting those 2 words on search-when u find answer-maybe you cld post it...I am not sure I will be doing these myself or I wld for you- drowning in research myself.
Thank you good question
Hi there yes for sure you can use scrapbooking paper you can decoupage it on and then put your three coats of engine enamel sealer on top of it but I do find scrapbooking paper is quite sick to work with and doesn’t lay flat and nice so I do have a video on how to make thick paper easier to decoupage with you can look that up on my channel and that might work out better when you’re trying to put scrapbooking paper on top of coasters hope that helps

Love all of your video's!
Where do you get the engine enamel? An auto parts store? Love love love your channel 💕💗💗💗💗💗💗
Auto parts stores have it . Amazon also has it.
@Susan McBride. Yes, as Rays' Blue Basement Workshop says auto parts stores and amazon has it. Walmart also carries it at a cheaper price but does tend to be quite thin. F.Y.I. all engine enamel is, is a high heat enamel that resist peeling/melting a temps usually below temp rating on label which can be anywhere between 350F to 1100F depending on the type. If you can't find engine enamel I suppose you can use standard enamel from say your local hardware store or home improvement store (home depot, Lowes, etc.). However, engine enamel is designed to be more tolerant when it comes to adhering to surfaces that are not perfectly clean and usually you will use less of it than standard enamel which may separate especially on surfaces that may have an oily residue.
This is me. I hate to throw away stuff that can be used in different ways.

Can I ask where you bought the clear enamel spray.
Auto Parts stores should have it. Amazon also has it.
When do I use polyacrylic or polyurethane??
Are use poly acrylic on most of my signs because it won’t yellow polyurethane me yellow on you so I only use it on darker colours
