    I rig up a belt squat with my barbell, a land mine, and a dip belt. All things most people already have, and if not, can get for around 100 bucks (minus the barbell). I end up standing on two 45 bumpers to allow a better range or motion. Considering I spent nothing extra to get up and running, I'd take it over this setup any day. I load the weight on with my mini deadlift jack, and because the barbell is long, the arc angle is acute enough that you barely feel it in the movement. Just something I thought people might want to try before they go out spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

    I’m glad you mentioned the load distribution of what you are actually lifting. Since it’s lever action and you stand behind the weight you aren’t lifting the true amount of weights on the attachment. I had a PowerTec. I calculated and actually used a scale to determine what % of the load I was lifting. The most consistent % I determined is I was lifting 70% of the load.

    The issue of shearing force can be remedied by using a wedge board backwards, meaning under the toes, such to match the angle of the lever arm at the bottom. As mentioned, get the SquatMax if comfort is the concern

    Agreed and I usually just suggest lever arms if someone wants a set up like this, but I think this is one of those cases where it just makes sense to spend a little more or nothing at all. Generally not a fan of the way this thing loads (impaling your chest), the angles, or having to get into position. At least the Sorinex has a kick stand.

      The only problem with the jammer arms is getting into position. For now, my best solution was to use a ropeand a carabiner from the top of the rack. Maybe some has a better solution, like a diy self-releasing kick stand.

    The Bells of Steel arms fit a 2.3 x 2.3 upright. I think they just released a line of 3x3 racks and attachments so that is worth looking into if you have a 3x3 rack. If you're gonna use collars, keep in mind you'll have to buy their collars as the sleeves are a different size. Regular 2" collars won't work. I highly recommend BOS though. I bought this belt squat because ot uses up hardly any space. I like the pump you get from it. I go heavy and have had upper of 5 plates on this thing. It handles it well but the bummer is you need to make a little stand with a piece of 4x4 so you can get the thing around your waist otherwise you waste a ton of energy holding it up while getting into position. Overall I really like the thing and it has helped my overall squat jump.

  • @el7145
    @el7145 2 роки тому +5

    One of the biggest problems I see with these (or jammer/lever arms) is how short the lever is and the inability to place your hands onto something (which makes this exercise way more comfortable). My DIY solution was to purchase a short upright, use pin/pipe safeties to thread through the upright holes, place in the middle of your rack, place 2x jhooks on ur rack and put the barbell on to hold ur hands. You will need a rack with holes all the way around the upright because the whole belt squat is outside ur rack like in this revolt although its centered and not off of one upright. Definitely need a weight horn to bolt on top of the spare upright. You also need to do some cutting with an angle grinder to get the perfect upright length, etc.

    I’ve been using this attachment for around 4 weeks and generally like it. For those worried about scratching their rack I added moleskin on the inside to prevent scratches. I’ve never been a huge fan of squats but find I’m enjoying them more and more with this attachment. Overall I think it’s a good addition to my home gym. Now I just need to make a kickstand. I’m thinking a 4x4 with an old jack handle attached.

    I bought a couple of 2" plate storage pins and bolted them to a jammer arm. Bolted on with wing nuts, they are quick to put on and take off. The plates load from the side on my jammer arms, but that's because they don't have holes on all four sides. I could drill it from the top and it would be just like this purpose built thing. Using a jammer arm, that's one less thing to store and it gives a multi use bit of kit that does more than the bespoke belt squat attachment. You still need to buy a strong eyebolt and a belt, but it's better value for money. I also use the weight pins and a jammer arm for leg extensions and leg curls. Slip a pad around one of the plate pins and load the weights on the other pin and it works fine. Given the choice between a purpose built belt squat like this and a modified jammer arm, I'd buy jammers and take the additional exercise options every time.

    when my son was recovering from labrum surgery we rigged up a belt squat with a Spud belt, a Spud loading pin, and some chain, hook, and carabiners. He would stand on a couple of metal plyobox stands with the weight on another box and then he would lift it up a few inches and his friend would pull the box away. Conversely we had a couple of aluminum ramps and he would duck walk up the ramp. Simple and cheap. the loading pin would be used with some attachments (grenades) to use for dip work. Between the belt squats and sled pulls he was able to maintain his lower body until he recovered from surgery and could start using his upper body (he played football in HS and college).

    Is that belt more comfortable than just the typical chain style? After a couple hundred lbs the chain starts digging into your inners, your mind can't focus on the lift.

    This is really cool but I'd love if they cut out some 1 inch holes along the side of the arm, so you can slap on some leg rollers and utility pins and use if to leg curls and leg extensions

    Nice alternative if space and budget is a concern.
    A better alternative is elitfit CORE BLASTER SQUAT ATTACHMENT. The weight ratio is closer to 1 to 1. Buy it on sell for the holidays and save a few bucks. Plus you can do more with it for the arms and shoulders. Luv mine. Have a shoulder injury and not able to lift at the moment? With the core blaster squat or any belt squat you are able to work out the legs while recovering from the shoulder injury.

    Thanks for the video Coop! Why wouldn't you just hang a weight directly from your belt? This thing is around +-250,- online. You can get some HEAVY kettlebells for less. Interested in your opinion!

    I have the belt squat attachment and think it's good but you're right about the felt weight being a lot less than what you're putting on. I wish the weight sleeve was a bit longer as if you're using bumper plates you can't load that much on it (something like 4-5x 55lbs). If I had the slimmer metal plates then I think I'd be happier with the amount it could load. With that said, I can still get a great workout in if I just do more reps so it's great for what it is and the price point. I'm happy with the purchase as it's simple, versatile enough, and you can get a good leg workout in if you just do more reps.

    Please do a review on manual incline treadmills. Much more realistically priced than a curved treadmill for most people and seems like a viable alternative to a sled as well. There's a Sunny Health & Fitness one for ~$400 that seems decent, but reviews for this type of treadmill are basically non existent.
