@@PeterKeller247 mostly because it would allow for a different kind of stimulus for the body compared to a barbell squat. Kick stand? Just link a heavy duty chain from top of the rack to your end of the lever arm+carribeaner and you can start in the top position. Unclip the carribeaner, then when you're done, reattach. You'll be in the standing squat position, the lever arm will be supported by the chain. Namaste x
I was lucky enough to grab one of these at the initial release. The build quality is amazing, and Fringe Sport identified an issue in a batch of their included belts (I noticed literally nothing wrong with the one I received...) and sent new belts out to everyone free of charge. In my opinion I think the instructions needed a little bit more work for what size sockets are required for assembly. I've used it a few times now and unfortunately I can't say that it's been great simply because of the lack of the kickstand. I've basically stopped using mine until that becomes an option. I've reached out and they said they are working on it as an add-on but I have not yet seen an ETA.
I ended up buying this. I have a 2" x 2" TDS squat rack that only has holes going from front to back. I don't have space to use this off to the side so I bought a 5/8 in drill bit and drilled a hole to mount it. Added a couple washers to make it fit tighter on the rack. I like it. Get it with the kickstand. It's well worth it.
Review the Elite FTS belt squat attachment. It comes with a SPUD inc belt for about $280. It needs a land mine and barbell to attach too, but works well for what it is.
This one looks much better than the revolting model. I’d like to see something like this one, with a means of attaching to a horizontal cross member at the bottom rear of my cage. That way, I could use the cage for balance, etc. It would require a swivel joint for up and down movement. I would also like to see a version that I can use standard plates (1 inch center hole) with.
We considered a similar set-up/solution. The problem with it is difficulty re-engaging this solution at the end of a set. Whereas the kickstand we are *almost* don with is easy and safe to use at the beginning of a set... and at the end
I attached their new kickstand. It took me about 5 minutes to attach. It makes a huge difference; although, the negative is that you have to move the weight peg up one hole which slightly reduces the true weight you are lifting. Also, Coop is right about increasing the arm length to reduce the swing angle. Overall, I am happy with the Belt Squat.
I am 100% getting this for my Titan T3 Rack (Update) Got it with the kick stand and LOVE IT! I use it as a leg burnout exercise and back pulls to good effect.
Don't know of any attachments but a safety squat bar comes on handy for standing calf raises. It's great because you can hold on to the rack with your hands while the bar sits on your shoulders. I use a stepper for a calf board.
I unfortunately/fortunately have a T Bar stand for squats because of the ceiling hight in my basement but for whatever reason I enjoy watching all of your reviews.
The BoS belt squat doesn't have protective plastic where it meets your squat racks uprights- otherwise i would have bought it. Might get this one and the dedicated wall mount! Thanks for the review
Coop.....completely unrelated to this video, but seeing its your most recent I figured I'd post here. In a prior video you said you were going to do an in-depth video of the core home fitness adjustable dumbbells. I am trying to decide between Nordic Track select 55s and the core home fitness. Really appreciate all your videos and your opinion. Thanks Paul
It will work with that rack. There will just be a little bit of play in the mount. Or, if you hate that, grab the wall mount attachment and attach the wall mount to your rack and the belt squat to the wall mount
Hi love your reviews on stuff. On the fringe belt squat how do you feel about it for someone 6’3 ? I tried the Revolt and it sucks, limited range of motion
I have one of these and it's great. I also pre ordered the new kickstand which looks awesome. I guess they took your advice. I wonder if there Is a way to add another horn either on top or put 2 on the sides. Or maybe add a longer horn on top. I'm getting close to maxing it out. Any thoughts?
If you want to save money and do the exercise what the bronze era and silver era used Get two boxes of equal height, stand on the box with a weight dip belt,
Love these vids! If I have a Rep lat/low row would you suggest I get this over the Rep Belt Squat? They are doing a deal where the kickstand comes with for free right now!
the problem with this style of belt squat is that you have to load a ton of plates to get enough resistance cause the lever isn't very long, and the weight is far away from the body and doesn't move much. I built something similar with some 2x4s and a metal pipe that attaches to pin safeties for like $50. I think these can be greatly improved by having a Y shaped design with 2 weight horns like the belt squat machines. It would be bigger, but it would be much better loading
Very good feedback! One benefit of our design is that the lever *is* quite a bit longer than the other options on the market. We made the design adjustable and modular to accommodate this. And as for the side mount weight horns, those are coming in the next few months and again, since the design is modular, they will fit the existing units on the market as an upgrade if needed.
What is the ‘felt’ load on this? On the revolt review it was stated at 60%. Because at max length this is longer is the felt load a greater percentage?
@@PeterKeller247 How are you calculating that? Based on this video it looks like the weight horn is about 2/3 of the way between the fulcrum and the attachment point, which would work out to around 67% load. Still much better than something like the Revolt, which is a terrible design, but 90% seems way off.
If the longer the lever is the best for belt squats, why not just use an Olympic bar with weights in a landmine with a single handle attached to it so you can hook a chain to it?
I would love to get a belt squat, but the back and forth movement worries me. IMO, the point to getting a belt squat is to be able to do heavy reps with less chance of injury than having bar up on top of your spine. More weight, less risk. But if you are pushing yourself (say, in the three rep range) it seems to me even a little back and forth movement would pose a serious risk of injury. I don't see that addressed in any videos on these things. You don't see someone doing 300 lbs. on it, for example.
I'll give you the biased opinion (since I work for Fringe). The Rep option is a great piece of engineering, and I think generally priced OK assuming you have all the other gear that you need. The Rep option also has 2 big advantages going for it- 1:1 weight and a true vertical plane of motion. That said, A) You need the Rep rack and weight stack already to attach it to, B) I bet install and having it attached to your rack is cumbersome and C) it still suffers from the "kickstand" problem, with a solution to this problem much harder to address. With our design, we focused on interoperability (works with ALL racks or even just a wall), ease of install and tear-down (so you are not limiting your rack when not in use) and space efficiency, while delivering all this at a VERY approachable price. Yes, it’ll fit any 3x3, 2x3 or 2x2 rack

We have got to get belt squats into more people’s home gyms. Getting machines for the legs in the home gym is doable. More innovation needed.
Why are you so up on belt squat designs vs. just teaching more people to squat properly? Genuine question
