      Leider gibt es ein kleines Missverständnis. Der Glaube alleine reicht nicht aus, zur Errettung. Denn, es gibt den Glauben vom hören und den Glauben vom sehen. Das was wir sehen sind unsere Taten, sie sind eine Folge von dem Glauben vom hören. Es steht geschrieben, "gerettet werden" immer Zukunft, das bedeutet es ist ein Prozess.

    As a Catholic, I often encounter the complaint that "we don't do full emersion baptism", so somehow it must be wrong. This pastor beautifully explained--it's not about the "amount of water", it's about the Word(s) used in the Sacrament! I feel like I just wandered into a Catholic Church!

    • @Blueray93Romania
      @Blueray93Romania 5 років тому +10

      Uhm...no....sorry. Baptism, from khoine greek means: to immerse. And it was done like this from the beginning roughly til the west began adding changes upon changes to the faith.

    • @bethanyann1060
      @bethanyann1060 5 років тому +55

      @@Blueray93Romania Can you give evidence that it was always done by immersion before said "changes" were added? Because I can refer you to probably the earliest Christian manual for Christian practice called the Didache, which many scholars actually believe was written in the first century, and it seems to say the manner of baptism doesn't really matter. See section VII on baptism, in which it states that pouring water on the head three times is a valid method of baptism. ;)

    • @Blueray93Romania
      @Blueray93Romania 5 років тому +9

      @@bethanyann1060 And concerning baptism, baptize this way: Having first said all these things, baptize into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19 in living water. But if you have not living water, baptize into other water; and if you can not in cold, in warm. But if you have not either, pour out water thrice upon the head into the name of Father and Son and Holy Spirit. But before the baptism let the baptizer fast, and the baptized, and whatever others can; but you shall order the baptized to fast one or two days before.
      This implied immersion. Pouring seems to be when no other means is available. Because it says "if you have not either" THEN.
      So...in the correct Orthodox way, the person is baptised by immersion and only if proper water is lacking or there is an emergency(life or death situstion) is one baptised. So we see changes and changes brought by the Romans throughout the centuries which, of course, ended with the reformation.

    • @billmartin3561
      @billmartin3561 5 років тому +35

      Sorry but the Catholic Church is THE authority on Christianity, as they are the ORIGINAL. If Catholics have been doing Baptisms without full immersion, then it’s OK. I fully respect other methods of practicing Christianity so long as they believe in Jesus Christ as God. But to say that a Baptism isn’t valid because it’s not full immersion is ignorant and flies in the face of 2000 years of Christian worship.

      @@billmartin3561 While I wouldn't agree that the ROMAN Catholic church is the original church, since the Eastern part of the church and their bishops were also present for the first thousand years, I agree that saying immersion is the only valid form of baptism is ignorant of what the church as a whole has practiced for the entire church age. Regarding the assumption that EVERY symbol and rubric possesses meaning, I used to attend a very similar Missouri Synod church. During the liturgy one Sunday the pastor stopped mid sentence, lowered his head, took about five seconds of silence, and then resumed. Afterwards I asked about the meaning of the pause, and he responded, "That portion of the liturgy is called, 'Whoops, I made a mistake and forgot my place.'" Ah, a liturgy so beautiful that even the mistakes look reverent.

    As a Roman Catholic, I have a profound respect for the LCMS. They're probably one of the only Lutheran churches that have stuck by the original doctrine. A lot of what they do for their Sunday Divine Service is very similar to what many Catholics would observe in a typical mass. Unfortunately, I do have to say that sometimes the LCMS can often appear more Catholic than your typical Catholic "Novus Ordo" in that they might actually use incense, sing traditional hymns and use organ as the sole accompaniment. Unfortunate for the Catholics, not Lutherans of the Missouri Synod. I know a Greek Catholic priest whose brother was dating a Lutheran girl to try to convert her. She was LCMS and they met in the middle for what they will do on Sunday, mass first, Divine service after. After that, he asked himself "what am I going to convert her to? The service was more Catholic than the mass itself." That gave me a good laugh. All of the divisions in the church are unfortunate, but I'm happy that the LCMS and more doctrinally conservative Catholics can agree on many issues like social teaching.

      The Lutheran Mass which is the Catholic Mass is the same in Lutheran churches worldwide. I am not knocking the LCMS since that is the Synod I was raised in. But all Lutherans worship alike with few exceptions. In fact, in European Lutherans [e.g. Sweden, Finland, etc.] looks so catholic [incense and bells] that one would not be able to tell the difference.

It's amazing to see someone being genuinely interested in what others believe and think, and not just ask questions to get more ammo in debates. I love that you show the world that it's possible to have good and meaningful conversations with people you might disagree with. The respect you show to all different kinds of people is really inspiring! I am an LCMS Lutheran in America (with VERY Lutheran Scandinavian roots) and it's amazing to see the uniformity of our liturgy and customs in the church all across the world. Of course there are some differences, but overall every traditional lutheran service I have been to has the same general shape and is instantly recognizable. The best example was when I attended a service on the eastern border of the Czech Republic. I may not have known the language, but I could tell exactly where we were in the order of service. Gospel reading, Lord's Prayer, Benediction, whatever it was. And hearing it all in a different language too, is so special. When we sang the hymns, I sang along in the English lyrics while hearing the Polish or Czech (since it was a bilingual service). I would love to attend more services in all sorts of different countries. It's such a special experience.

    Thank you for doing this video. It was very well done and respectful. I am LCMS. My husband and I converted to it from different church backgrounds so I totally understand how it looks to outsiders. The liturgy is sometimes hard to get the hang of in the beginning. But what really drew me to love it is that it is the words from the Bible (sometimes easier seen in the service book with the text references) and that connection to Christians before us. My husband later went to seminary and we were assigned a field work church (mentoring church) where he got to learn more about the liturgy, traditions, and ceremonies that the Lutheran church kept because it confessed something about our faith and scripture. Now my husband is a LCMS priest/ pastor not far from this church. Blessings to you.

My kids' eyes lit up the first time they realized Bible verses we were reading at home were what we sang at church during Diving Service! It's all centered on Christ. No more pendulum of pride and despair, but trusting in God's promises. We are so grateful to now receive God's gifts each week.

    Take it from me, an ex-reformed who turned confessional Lutheran; It seems so subtle these differences, but they are bigger than you first think.
    Also, when considering liturgical traditions, you will either keep them or replace them with modern liturgy. Often, the modern version contains less of Gods word. That is not a good thing.

      The strict reformed churches have way more of the word of God in the service compared to Lutheran's that violate the regulative principle and sing all these man made hymns many written by heretics instead of singing from God's inspired song book the Psalter.

    Hi Matt, I enjoy watching your videos and learning about other Christian denominations, which you delicately unveil to us subscribers. I was amazed to see Will Weedon on your channel as I've listened to him for several years on 'Issues Etc' with Todd Wilkens and Jeff Schwartz. I even met Will Weedon once at a conference where he spoke, but I did not introduce myself as he was busy doing numerous strtching exercises in the back where I was seated. I later found-out he is an avid long-distance runner. Anyway, it was great to see your visit to the LCMS Church in Illinois and listen to Will answer all your questions with such in-depth focus upon "Jesus" and the means of Grace...God's on-going presence in our lives, through his Word in the hearing of Biblical Scripture, Baptism and Communion...elements of this earth in and under His promises of forgivess unto us who do exactly as he requested, 'eat his body and drink his blood'...wherein many of His Jewish disciples walked away from Him perplexed by a request they perceived purely as barbaric canabalism. We do this as confessional Lutherans because He as His Word in the NT instructs us. So, we take the Bread and Wine as a Sacrament....realizing in repentance of our daily sins that He took all our sin (past, present and future) upon Himself...so we as brokem sinners can go out back into a broken world with regenrated hope in Him being with us in our week to week struggles. Outsiders to our church service may easily be confused as to why communion (common union) is 'closed' as it may first appear uppity or snobish, but I know Will as a confessional Lutheran pastor will rightfully explain it, just as he rightfully interprets scripture and the sacraments for Jesus's sheep, members of His Churxh who merely are in one room of Jesus's Church...brothers and sisters in Christ to all other church bodies who proclaim "Jesus as Savior". Sorry for being so wordy, I'm just surprised and elated to see that you actually walked into what is my homeroom within God's Church of many rooms. 👍

      That parable is Jesus is the Good Samaritan. it points to his sacrifice of himself for sinners, who like the helpless man who fell among thieves, are left for dead so to speak by the world of sinners who will not and cannot help him. Only Jesus is the Good Samaritan who can salve our wounded bodies and sin-sick souls with the balm of his holy blood shed for sinners.
