    RED LIGHT v. NEAR INFRARED: What’s the difference?
    * Red light: at certain frequencies (mid-600 nm) , red light can penetrate the area right beneath the skin’s surface - called the hypodermis. Our mitochondria soak up this red light and can use it to produce more energy in the cell.
    * Near-infrared (NIR) light therapy is similar to red light therapy, except infrared energy is invisible, and is said to go deeper into the body than red light (mid-800 nm) - reaching soft tissues, muscles, joints, and even bone. This is the light form closely associated with injury repair.

    I have been doing red light therapy for several years. Theres a way cheaper way (~40 dollars) to begin. Buy a 250watt red near "heat lamp" bulb, one to begin. I bought mine from home depot. It is a big red light bulb that gets hot as hell and you will need to also buy a clamp on light socket cord which can typically be found in the same store. This can then be used as targeted red light therapy as you shine it on your body at least a foot away of course and no longer than perhaps 30 minutes per session. Now, if you want more lamps you can even build a small wood box and set 3 or 4 of these light bulbs in it to create your own little sauna while saving likely thousands in the process, good luck friends on your healing journey.

    We purchased two Elite units ($12K+) and 3 out of the 12 panels failed within nine months. When we asked about an extended warranty due to what appears to be a manufacturing issue, customer service goes silent.
    Red light therapy is amazing, but buy your device from a company who invested in quality parts, not a slick advertising campaign. JOOVV panels are expensive and frequently fail. JOOVV does not care once they cash your check.

    Note: they have the largest red light therapy panels at Planet Fitness with the premium membership of roughly $26/month. With this you wouldn’t need to purchase a $6,000 red light panel. Also, some health insurance plans cover gym memberships up to roughly $250-350/year. In that case it would free Red Light therapy. 😊

      The machine they use at planet fitness is pretty low quality - there’s leakage of other light frequencies (including blue which can cause headaches and other issues with prolonged exposure), high EMF output (which may or may not be detrimental but, best case scenario, certainly isn’t good for you), and the bulbs are fluorescent; they have a high flicker rate - I’ve seen tests up to 40-50% flicker which is really really high. Flicker causes headaches, muscle tightness, anxiety, and other issues as well. The most prominent light wavelength in those machines isn’t even the correct nm frequency. The planet fitness machines spike around 615-620nm and again at 820ish nm - all the studies on red light therapy indicate 630-660nm and 850nm as the wavelengths you want for real benefits. Me and my girlfriend tried the machine at planet and both felt kinda crappy that night and the next day. You’re better off buying a small, high quality device or even red light bulbs to start out if you don’t have several hundred dollars to spare.

    Absolutely had to share my experience with red light therapy here, especially since there's a lot of curiosity about its real-world benefits. A few months ago, I started using a red light therapy panel from Future Form Official, a Norwegian company. I was dealing with some persistent joint pain and general inflammation issues. Not only has it genuinely helped in easing my pain, but I've also noticed a surprising improvement in my skin's appearance! Their panels are well-priced, considering the quality and effectiveness.

    This was a great video thanks, you do make these complex areas accessible. Freddie - this feedback helps me more than you know!! Thank you so much for sharing that. I feel the same way about a lot of product reviews too where it's the "shiny new object" syndrome, but they've only used the product for a few days. It's one of the reasons I like to wait on certain products to do a really comprehensive look at how it might be effective over 6 months to a year, not just from a data perspective, but also from a habit standpoint. thank you again for mentioning this -- it feedback like this that helps when scoping out future reviews.

    GREAT overview of red light therapy! I'm sending this to multiple fiends of mine. I've used RLT in treating a burn scar from a house fire. It seems to help with the pain and with skin regeneration. I simply bought an LED bulb that is designed for near infrared. It was about $30 and compared to various prescription creams and over the counter therapies, I've never regretted my purchase. As you said, there are cheap ways of getting RLT and they may not be the most effective, they work and are cost effective.

    I bought a red light wrap for knees from Amazon for about $130. I’ve used it on hand arthritis, hip bursitis, back pain shoulder impingement, ankle pain, and a sore knee. It has really decreased my pain. I tend to keep it on the bed and plug it in right before I go to sleep or right after I wake up for pain.

    • @kj3d812

      @kathygann7632 Which one, specifically? (No offense to this channel, but $300+ is *not* for "any budget". Some of us simply cannot afford to shell out that much for a red light therapy unit, despite all those who love to argue, "It's way less expensive than going to a clinic!" It's still $300.)

    • @kathygann7632

      @@kj3d812 so true.. I paid $129.00 and was in tons of pAin. I used it mostly for back pain then ended up having a 12 hour back surgery with 2 surgeons. After I had no more pain there, I’ve used it for knee pain and hip bursitis DGXINJUN Infrared and red light therapy for pain and arthritis knee wrap. I’ll often lay it on the bed and just lay down on top of it.

    Thank you for covering this extensively. I have been fortunate enough to work with a group of techs who perform light therapy and wish I was able to afford 5 visits a week on the bed. It really helped with an array of issues I have battled for years. It doesn't heal the issues but definitely helps to reduce pain and discomfort. Broken bones that give me residual pain in addition to joint pain but mostly a very poor circulation issue in my left leg caused by damage to my posterial tibial vein after falling off a ladder 20 years ago. I get ulcers on the skin along with tons of edema. Just one treatment on the bed did wonders. My question is do these at home devices have the same impact? Do they have the same number of lights or does that matter?

    I am 2 years in using Red/Near Infrared. My first purchase was a JOOVV panel then costing about 700.00
    My second panel is the Platinum . The Platinum panel you sit or stand 12" away , JOOVV is 6".
    The Platinum is more powerful that costs about the same . I sandwich myself between them for 20 min. first thing
    in the morning. Also use Vielight to radiate my 69 year old brain (intra-nasal) in the evening.
    No wrinkles on my face, Doctor always mentions how young I look during bloodwork follow-up visits.

I was shocked by how amazingly hot my face and head became, and then I noticed I was also sweating, as the panel was heating me up so much! Thank you for making this clear video Katie! I have a question. I am considering buying the Gembared for my tiredness. But I read that blue (white) light helps better. Is that true and isn't blue light harmful?

    • @Nyttingnes
      @Nyttingnes 2 роки тому +2

      If your cause is sleep related, bright or blue light signals to your brain that it's daytime, and turns off melatonin production (sleep hormone).
      If your tiredness isn't sleep related, then near-infrared light will help some (diet and exercise are more impacting) or simply go out in the sun more.
      Hope this helps you!

    • @blissbrain
      @blissbrain Рік тому +2

      I understand blue light is very harmful at night, because it prevents sleep. (blocks melatonin production). However in the morning it is very helpful because it sets your circadian rhythm to get sleepy that evening. so if anyone uses blue light for anything other than setting circadian rhythms (SADs, acne, killing viruses, whatever), it shouldn't be done at night!

    I came across the book The Ultimate Guide To Red Light Therapy: by Ari Whitten. He recommends 2 wave lengths at high intensity. The Red Rush is one of the machines he recommends because of low EMF, high output etc.. Great book with useful info. We bought the larger Red Rush 720 unit about 9 months ago. It was rather expensive compared to the 360 unit, but I`m glad I bought the larger unit since I can hang it on the back of our bedroom door and get a full body coverage by standing in front of it. We usually do 5 mins front and 5 mins on the back 3- 5 times a week. This seems to be one of the few things that gives my wife lower back pain relief. To be honest I don't have any real health or skin issues, but I do it 3 x times per week and standing on my vibration table anyway and hopefully am receiving some benefit from it. However, the Red Rush 720 has been a godsend for my wife's back pain. Dr Rhonda at Foundmyfitness cautions that the research is in its initial stages and that marketing is well ahead of the research on photo biomodulation. Check here at 39 mins @ ua-cam.com/video/0A5AMfFWfiQ/v-deo.html&t=2190 Overall the Red Rush machine is very sturdily built and seems to give great relief to my wife.

    Not sure why you say there's not enough research, I've seen hundreds of studies going back for years. The biggest effect is stimulating mitochondria to produce ATP and stimulating mitochondrial biogenesis. It also seems to activate stem cells. It increases BDNF in the brain. And because ATP is the energy source cells use, it can affect virtually anything the body does. You can literally spend weeks going through all the studies.

    LED is so effective that it replaces the need for filler and Botox more than enough to escape the homelessness inspiring expense of fillers. I developed a terrible sensitivity to fillers and Botox, (Emergency Room time for 5 of the times I've done it. 2x for Botox and 3 times for filler both with numbing and without so it's not the numbing cream as it was internal hormone damage.) so I had to find an alternative. LED has made my face like the moon, it's so full and beautiful. I bought my wand for $250 and it's built to last a lifetime. Filler and Botox is $1600.00 every 8 - 12 months. I'm 46 and no longer ever need to touch another needle.

    Hi Katie. Thanks for your efforts, here. I just recently got interested in near infra-red light and yours is the 5th video or so that I've watched. I'm 67 and want to heal my aorta-aneurysm which arose about 5 weeks after my second vaccination. My cardiologist says that healing an aneurysm is impossible, but I'd love to prove her wrong on this. I've been taking some collogen-supplements and hyaluron and thought that a deep near-infra-red treatment twice/week would aid the body, should it want to heal. (I've even thought about normal, regular sun-bathing with a green-leaf twig on the area to be affected - which would let this red light pass through.)
    The price of the better devices is somewhat prohibitive, but I'm thinking about finding a red-light studio for the "therapy" twice/week or even sharing the device with friends or neighbors.
    Anyway, I appreciate your frank approach. Thank you. h.
