  • “This is where it all started, this is where the roots are,” says Glenn Chiou. “It has that ‘Z’ because of this car.”
With a 1972 Nissan 240Z-L in his care, Chiou is already the owner of an exceedingly rare car in the U.S. He then used his knowledge of history and Nissan’s past to source unobtanium-grade parts from the period Datsun competition catalogue, which tastefully brings this car up a notch in performance but retains a completely authentic look.

So they should have done like VW did with the beetle just out source it to mexico and have a 40 year production run? Sad to say it would have ruined the car, Nissan discontinuing it was the right option. I'm just glad you can still get new parts for it....try that with a mk2 supra!

I met a dude outside of Hometown Buffet who had one of these and ended up talking to him for an hour about his car and whatnot. The car was his mother's who bought it off the showroom floor, brand new. The way he talked about his car and how his mother loved driving it made me realize why there's a cult behind these cars.

This is what a 240z should be! Good old carb L-series engine up front, JDM parts all throughout, andcraftsmanship throughout. So many times on the Z forums I find people pulling out their precious L-series engines for crude American V8s (great for muscle cars, not for Zs) in the search for power but forget that the L-series engine is what makes the Z so special. Besides, an L-series engine sound heaps better than any chevy 350.

That’s exactly, what being a petrol head means. It’s not about the power or the looks or the brand. It’s all about the feeling. The connection with the vehicle. As someone who both owned (several) and raced the 240Z I thought this video was extremely well done. I always wanted to find the 2.0L version but did end up running a 2.4 stock in SCCA ITS class. I knew every single inch of that car. My personal cars were lovingly worked on, and my last one was a restomod with a 5.0L Mustang motor, with intercooled turbo. yeah...when it ran...it was a beast. I think my favorite was the 2.8L Turbo + 5 speed. Broke my heart when it was stolen. When it was recovered, it was trashed. good and bad memories that one. I know I am late to this video but I hope you are still having your love affair with your Zed. She's a beauty!

I have a 73 240 that im still working on. Just finished tearing the l24 block and head down, cleaning, painting, and replacing all the gaskets and timing chain. Working on new breaks, wheel bearings, new shift lever assembly, and choke cabling. Just trying to get it safe and drivable, so i can drive over to my bros house for body primer. I got a ways to go, so baby steps.lol
Eventually, I would like an l28 3.0l and triple carbs with a r200 rearend. I'd be happy with that, screw turbos and computer bs, equals more money than Im willing to put into it. If i can get about 300 horses, with good tires, and a good rearend, thats good enough for a streetperformance/weekend driver.

I own a 1985 sprinter Trueno initial d replica and was hoping to see someone make an actual devil z replica thanks to the title. Kinda disappointed but damn that fairlady was sexy as all hell

that would be very cool to see, id love to own one but put an NA RB25 in it... as cool as wangan midnight was i reckon it'd be quite the handful..that said i was reading about an 450hp RB26DETT powered one today and i thought that'd be awesome to drive

      +Tatenda Jinya (EthosVeritas)
Yeah the 240Z in that story had about 800hp and was tuned for flat out driving. I would bet in lower speed traffic the Camshaft would be providing near nothing on the low end.

Unknown Bluebird very true hey, seen some hot version videos with some stroked L28's putting out about 300hp which i think would be perfect and sounded so amazing

    • @unknownbluebird7026
      @unknownbluebird7026 8 років тому +2

At first I was thinking about 270hp would be fine, then I heard AZGhost623's engine and fully agree with you. 300hp with a 3.0L Stroked L28 would be perfect. I would probably run semi-slicks on the corners to keep the car from being too tail happy out accelerating out of the apex. Also a larger sway bar front and rear before taking it to my favorite driving roads.
The sound bouncing off the trees, and induction from the carbs would be an aura symphony!

One of my favourite coupes alongside the Alfa Montreal. Would be great to have a Datsun or Rotsun of my own. Credit to the owner too for putting so much effort in.

Great video. Good to see a down to earth owner who also articulately described appreciation for character and authenticity in vehicles. I just hope petrolicious that this is a permanent move away from some of the pretentious car owners featured in the past.

Finally someone who REALLY understands what cars are becoming today.... in the olden days... cars felt like your best friend or your favorite brother... but nowadays... cars can be compared to Siri or Cortana.... they're just robots meant to take you from point A to B.
No love, no passion, no craftsmanship.... just electronics and geeky technology stacked together... yes they're safer, yes they're faster, but... are they as passionate to drive? most are not... I hope someday this lost art can be rediscovered and "restored" like the Z in the video... so cars can make people truly smile an laugh again.😊
