Hope this'll be helpful to you! :)
We're not far into 2022, let me know what your goals are in the comments! :)
This video hit me right in the feels. Not only was I using "lazy fades", but you used an exact song I've used in the past lol well played.
I'm joining your community to learn and watch more. Much respect to you! 💪🔥
@@janusdk Hey Janus! That's a very good question that I will try to explain as good as I can!
Let's say you cut the music to an end-point that you like, and then make another cut on the last beat, so that when you put the reverb effect on, it'll just appear on that last beat instead of the whole clip.
Now, when you don't compound the last part and you want to enlengthen the last part so that the reverb can fade out nicely, the music of that track will just keep going with a reverb effect. If you compound that however and you don't go into the compound clip timeline, the compound clip has an end that cannot be enlengthened, because the end of the compound clip is set to the end of the music clip that you used to create the compound clip. If you now go into the compound clip timeline, duplicate the music track in there, deactivate the second track and en lengthen it, you can go back out to your normal timeline and enlenghten the compound clip (because it now has "material" to be enlengthened). This way, if you enlenghten the compound clip, the music will still stop and the end-point that you wanted instead of just continuing the track and the reverb can use that extra length top fade out nicely whilst there is no music playing anymore!
If you need more clarification, please send me an email to: sebastian@sf-visuals.com
I can do a short screen recording so you have visual representation of what I just tried to explain and then it might be a little more clear! :)
Just what I was looking for! Thank you! Subscribed!
So pleased to see this. I spent years in the studio editing tracks to fit perfectly for commercials. I must have done thousands of them, and this was a technique we often used when we didn't have a proper ending we could steal and nail on.
Of course, it wasn't digital back then. I was working on 1/4" tape mostly or multitrack, but we used similar ideas. We would copy a bit over, cut off the end and front with a razorblade so we effectively had one beat, then send it to the echo plates in the basement and record the result. This was then either synced up with the track on a different track or just edited on the end.
Often, to save time, I would simply use the desk to turn up the send to the reverb plate, then mute the track, and turn the send back off again. Very manual, and you had to have very good timing because it was three very quick moves just milliseconds apart. But after doing this every week for years, we mostly did it first time. It saved bouncing which helped quality - on tape, every time you bounce, you lose quality.
At the studios we prided ourselves on our music editing. Not just accurately editing a track to fit an exact 28.5 seconds (for a 30 seconds TV commercial), but doing it very quickly at the front of the session so the backing track was ready for the voice over.
It is much easier now, so no one has an excuse for what you rightly called the "lazy fade." A good music edit can transform your audio.
I am so happy to read this and getting such an amazing feedback! Yeah, no-one really has an excuse to just do a lazy fade when it is literally that easy to create a proper ending, especially as you already said, audio is pretty much half the viewing experience and neglecting this fact will never get you desired results! :)
A thousand thumbs up. I love how quick and easy you made this. Too many bloated tuts out there. This is awesome. Subscribed.
Great content as always man - useful information served in a short video! I like that!
Thank you! Glad you liked it and also thanks for commenting! What are your goals for this year?
Great stuff man. Your tutorials come in clutch! Thanks
Glad to hear that man! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment, greatly appreciated!! :)
Wow, after so many years I finally find this. This is great man, thanks alot!
Aweseome - just was I was looking for!
awesome mate thank you
Mate .....Brilliant. Keep the good stuff coming. You are a master of DaVinci
Hey Marco! Really glad that you liked it man! I will, I plan to be consistent throughout this new year with 1 video / week! Thank you very much man!
Sooooo helpfulllll!!!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It's quick and goes right to the point with easy-to-follow instructions! I was looking for a better way to end music and always resorted to the lazy method xD.
Hey man!! Super glad to hear that man! Happy that this was helpful to you!! :) yeah, the 'lazy method' has it's place but it's just more polished with the reverb! Thanks for leaving such a nice comment, appreciate it! :)
AWESOME! thanks!!
You’re most welcome! 🙏🏽
thx you - good lesson !
I am always glad when someone popularize better audio. But as the teacher, please be noted, that your audio is too low, 10 dB below YT loudness level that is -14dB LUFS.
Thank you for the nice comment! Oh, didn't know that YT is - 14db LUFS - will make sure that it's set right in the future! :)
thank you for a great video. I'm always using the first method. Now I'm gonna use this method.
The first method for sure is fine as well! But the second one is a little more polished! Thanks for tuning in and taking the time to comment - greatly appreciated! :)
WHAT A TIP!
Thnks bro! Its just iwas need
Happy to hear it's been helpful to you!
love it
Love it, thanks!
Hey Arif! Thanks so much, really glad you like it!:)
Thanks a lot, been using the lazy fade my whole life
It definitely has it's usecase but in my opinion this way just sounds a ton better than ending the song abruptly or letting it just fade out! :) You're welcome, super glad you liked it! :)
You got the best tutorial videos mate 10/10
Thank you Dalane! This means a ton to me!!
I want to start streaming again on twitch and use those streams to make short UA-cam videos - that would be great! Thanks for this tutorial, this really sounds way better than a fade
Go for it! Thats a nice idea! I also am playing with the thought of live-streaming here on youtube! What keeps you back from doing streaming?
It's awesome! Thank you😎
Glad you like it!! Happy to hear that, thank you for taking the time to write such a nice comment! :)
Thank u very much, very well explain!
Thank you! Glad you liked it!🙌🏽
Thank you! This should help me make better b-roll sequences.
You are more than welcome! Glad you liked it and also thanks for stopping by, taking the time to watch and comment! Greatly appreciated! :)
thanks so much man this helped a ton! keep it up. Liked and subbed!
Thanks a ton Max! Super happy to hear that! Welcome to the community! :)

Just to let you know that Sebastian did send the video he promised and it helped a lot. Thanks Sebastian!
Thank you! Glad it helped! :)
Thank you! I noticed your background has changed compared to your other videos! It looks more clean, at least to me! I want to upload my first video to this channel and try to stay consistent at least for 6 months
Haha! Thank you Alex! Yes, it did change a bit - we are about to move to another location in a month and the drawings that previously hung on that wall are already packed! Good eyes man! :D
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Greatly appreciated! :)
Made use of this effect right away in one of my shorts after watching this. Thank you!
Hey! Thank you, I am glad you liked it! Was it a big stress with the fine-tuning of the reverb time / dry and wet output or did you nail it first try? 😁
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment man, greatly appreciated! :)
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals I used your values and it worked perfectly. 👍
Glad to hear that! Keep producing man! :)
Nice, thanks
You're welcome man! :)
thank you!!!!
You’re most welcome! 🙌🏽
Thank you much
You're more than welcome man! :)
Nice to know Friedrich!! I will use this trick in the next video!✌🏼 Great job man!
Hey man! Glad to hear! Sure thing, it's a little more time consuming than the regular fade-ending but the results that you'll get with that are so much more pleasing! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment man, greatly appreciated! :)
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals it's a pleasure to see your growth in UA-cam!✌🏼
It's a pleasure for me to have an audience that's interested in those tutorials! :)
Awesome! Very easy to follow. Thanks.
Glad you liked it man! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment man, greatly appreciated! :)
Video se mujhe nhi samjh aya tum bata skte ho kya ???
Great tutorial G
Thanks man! Appreciate that!
Hey Sebastian, thanks for this bro. I did it a shorter way, But I am happy to learn this as its more accurate
Thank you bro! What way did you do it? I am curious and always excited for new ideas!:)
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals what I meant was that I used the ends of the audio file and dragged it just like what you did the first time.
Do you mean goals for this year on UA-cam or in general?
This sounds so much better, thank you! Will try that later!!
No, just some goals that you set for yourself that you want to achieve this year! :)
You're more than welcome, I am glad that you like it! Also thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment! Highly appreciated man!
Wish I watched this before I finished my edit I did a few days ago 🤦🏾♂️
Bro your channel is underrated! Giving out free game and got a lot of gems videos 😮💨🔥
Thanks bro! Highly appreciate that! Stoked to hear you like the content - there‘s plenty to come - with a bunch of awesome new assets for resolve I‘ve developed over the past couple months!🤝🏽
Awesome video. I was redoing my intro for this year as I learn resolve and had the lazy fade. Just upgraded it. Thanks :)
Hey Julius! Glad you liked it! Oh, since when are you using resolve? Is there any specific topic you need help with?
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals since you asked lol. Since I’m a beginner, I sometimes find myself looking for short specific things when creating. An example would be. I drag and drop the call out on top of my clip. But can’t figure out how to change the angle/direction of the call out. So I search “how to modify a call out. Maybe the drag and drops have limited modifications. But short specific videos on exact things geared to beginners.
@@JuliusToltesi Oh, sure. Do you mean specifically the callout pack that I created? Because with that one it's a little hard to change the angle / anchor point! Otherwise you can simply do most stuff in the "inspector" tab on the edit page! :) But for sure I will implement more beginner-friendly tutorials! :)
nice man
Thank you man, glad you liked it! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment man, greatly appreciated! :)
Nice tip, a slapback delay with the correct setting will work as well.
Hey! Sure, this could work as well! Thanks for pointing that out! :)
great
Du ROCKST einfach Davinci Resolve brutal ab 🙂
Danke dir! Ja, man tut was man kann und lernt immer neu dazu - das ist das gute daran, da kann man immer neue Tutorials hochladen! :D
Hi seb, great tuto!
Can u doing a video for sound effect under water and/or out of planet? As if we were listening to the music that is on earth but being in space, I don't know if I'm clear, I hope 😐 have a good night dude.
Hey Dejan! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment man! Sure thing, I know what you're talking about! Will tackle this topic in the near future! Glad you liked it man! :)
Thanks for the tips. I didn't quite understand what was the purpose of the second timeline. Hmmm? But if I can figure that out I will try it. Thanks
There was no purpose for that at all - I just didn't wanna do it in 1 timeline and zoom in to not give away on what the other way was 😁 I could have done them on the Sam's timeline as well!
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals thanks
Hey - I just realized that I may have gave you a wrong answer - what do you mean with the 'second timeline'? The demonstration at the beginning or did you mean why I opened the compound clip in its own timeline?
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals at 2:43 you open the second clip in its own timeline and then you duplicated it and extended the duplicate. not sure why you did all that.
@@PassionForLifeGallery Oh for sure! Then I gave you the wrong answer! Because, that's a little more complex - because the reverb effect needs some room to "breathe" and unfold the reverb. If I would have left the clip normal and extended it to give the effect some breathing room, the track would have just continued with the regular beat and music instead of going slowly to an end. In order to solve this problem, I created it as a compound clip to have the freedom to go into this compoiund clip's timeline, duplicate the last part of the music with the effect on, then mute it and then extend the muted part. So when doing it this way, I have the freedom to lengthen the compound clip so that the reverb effect has some room to unfold without the regular beat continuing! I know, this is a little confusing! Hope you get the point! :)
Ahh man - that was awesome (I can't believe how lazy I was fading out my music 🤦🏻♂🤣). The reverb trick is just 🤯.
I cannot wait to try this 🤟.
Brilliant as always brother - thank you so much 🙏🏻
Hey brother! Hahaha! It was a little "offensive" calling it lazy because the fade is even used in some Hollywood productions but I personally like the reverb ending a little better because it just sounds a little more interesting and not as a hard ending :D
Of course it is totally fine to end a song with a reverb, but mixing those to make an edit more interesting is a good way! :)
Glad you liked it man! And as always, thanks for stopping by, being an amazing supporter and friend and also thanks for taking the time to comment! I know you always do and I am blessed that it is like that! BIG THANKS BROTHER! :)
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals You rock man 🤟 Thanks form everything brother
You are more than welcome brother! Wouldn't be the same without you! Appreciate you man! When's a new vid dropping? 😁
Great content sharing my dear frnd ❤️❤️🙏
You're more than welcome, glad you liked it! Also, big thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment, greatly appreciated! :)
Now, that it's done, how do I save all these work for future use so that I don't have to go through all of it again?
That’s editing man, this can’t be saved and you‘ll have to create it every time again - sorry!
2:42 I am not getting the option of [Open in Timeline] on my Resolve.
Hey Farzan - the menu is pretty much the same for all resolve users. It just seems like you skipped the step at 1:30 which should solve that problem
Hi, I can't get the compound clip to extend as there us no material to extend, what am I missing here?
You have missed the big step to right click on that compound clip, select open in timeline, duplicate the audio layer to the second audio track, mute the second audio track and extend it for around 5 seconds. Than go back to your regular timeline and you can extend it, as it was all shown in this video step by step
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals Same problem here and I did these steps. I can't even extend them in the timeline either
not sure if you solve the problem. Here is my assumption. You might need to cut somewhere which is not the end part of the music because it doesn't have data to extend. Let's say, you can try cutting in the middle of the music clip and see if it works.
When I open in timeline, I can't seem to increase the length of my duplicated clip. Please help me out
Did you cut the music ending or was it the real song ending?
Because when the song is ending on its normal end, you cannot make it longer
Nice information. But why made a new timeline and went back to timeline 1
It’s actually pretty self - explanatory:
Example 1: I just drag the effect on, without compounding and any other stuff - if I make the track longer, the music will just continue to play, which isn’t what we want if we want to fade out a track.
Example 2: if we compound it with the effect on, we cannot make the clip any longer because Resolve thinks the track is ended (due to compounding)
Example 3: the way I did it, to tell Resolve the track is not over, so we can make it longer, without the music continuing to play!:)
Hope this answers the question!:)
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals thanks for detailed explanation
@@ShijoCT650 you are welcome! Have you now understood my intention why I did it that way?:)
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals I got some understanding , may be detailed video for beginners like me would be good. Thanks 🙏
Can anyone answer why my duplicated compound clip has often changed after going in to mute it and then go back to the main timeline? I'm doing what he's doing.
How has it often changed? Can you explain a little more in-depth?
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals it often is shortened or something... The compound clip isn't an exact mirror of the one above it. There are even other times I come back to the main timeline and it's muted altogether.
I laughed because I did it the lazy way
Hahah! Most people do and that's totally fine - this is just another way to end a song that sounds a little bit more interesting in my opinion! :D Ending a song with a fade is definitely not "wrong", of course, this all depends on what you're editing! :) Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment man, greatly appreciated! :)
1.7k ms!? Thats just 1.7s!
Hey Simon! Yes, that's true! But I don't get what's the problem with that?? Could you please explain?
.
Is that good? 🧐
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals yes it is...i commented to increase the reach the of video.
@@sudhanshu_meena2125 Thank you!! 🙌🏽
The original fade out was so much better, wasted time watching this video.
Sorry to hear you‘ve wasted your time :)
Dont worry...he is lazy 😂😂
@@sprucemink he is not lazy, its just the original fade out sounded so much better than the one he did which I am sure you would have to agree with. The one he did was as you can tell was so abrupt and did not sound anywhere near as good as the fade out. So he was not lazy, if anything you possibly could say he went a long way around to make it sound not as good, which is the opposite of lazy.
