I know Morels are a good brand too (I run them on a healthy big block chev), but several machine shops have indicated that the Johnsons are definitely a step up!
I think it’s worth noting that genuine GM lifter trays should be used to keep the lifters square on the lobes. I bet when people are buying cheap lifters they are also getting knockoff trays that allow the lifters to spin on the lobes causing the damage you pointed out.
Just bought me a set of 2110r Johnson’s! So excited that I’ve got good quality now. My 408 stroker build was almost trashed because the guy who built it put some cheap ass Delphi ls7 lifters in it. One completely grinded itself on my cam and now I’m thousands in on my build bc of one cheap ass mistake

I used the Texas speed base DOD delete kit for my wife 17 suburban. It came with the Delphi ls7 lifters I’ve got a 1000k on it now with no noise at all but I just changed the oil and I sure do have a lot of glitter. 😢 the cam bearings looked pretty rough so I’m hoping it’s the cam and the cam bearings breaking into each other.

I switched to 2116LSR. When I tighten my rocker, it preloads my valve spring instead of pushrod side. Is this normal or are my pushrods too long? I'm not sure if the pump is just that hardcore on them. There's no spring in the cup

Good info, I just picked up the LS7 lifters a few weeks ago. Wish I knew about the upgraded LS7 with the bow tie. Are they for the LT1 GEN 5 engine or just the GEN III and IV engine.
The GM Performance "Caddy Race" lifters work for both the LS and Gen V LT platform! It's probably the most common lifter we run on builds in the shop, both LS and LT!
Our local Chevrolet dealership currently has four vehicles with less than 30k miles with factory ls engines with catastrophic engine failure due to factory [sourced] lifters.

so, ive had 3 different L31 engines that have all had the same issue, noisy lifter, bleed down too fast and clatter upon startup.. Latest engine has been the worst, all 3 were comp camshafts, and every single one had the worst constant noise on the #2 bank, usual 4 or #6 cylinder. Seems to be a common issue but comp and many other manufacturers cant give me a reason why this occurs.. Usually its "its just part of the territory with roller cams".. Even the new 383 i have the builder says the same.. The last 383 I built i used lunati lifters and had zero issues.. Any suggestions?? Its just a street 470hp 383 sbc.. At this point im super frustrated,..
I'm looking for a new hrc for my sbc. I went with comp cams solid roller setup 15 years ago to be cool on the street. Well It took 15 years to finish my car. I've been driving it here and there and came back from a cruise and noticed the valve train was noisier. So I checked it. 0.111" back lash on one! I should have checked it way way more often but I just got it on the road. So with sitting for 15 years, high spring pressures, and not checking the lash, I gotta put in a new cam and lifters now. And springs. Probably go with hydraulic roller

I was also told by my engine builder to look at Gaterman Lifters, he has a website if ya wanna go check em out. They look like a good piece.

I currently have a problem with a lifter in a 5.7 Vortec I got from NUTECH by ATK, NO oil coming up through the #6 exhaust valve lifter causing the # 6 exhaust valve push rod to bend and the valve to seize open, they are sending me a new head and told me to replace all the lifters even though the other ones don't look damage, from the pictures I sent them. To me they look like they have more wear than the 82 miles I put on them. but they say they look good but told me to go ahead and replace them anyways..? Anyways my question is, because the lifters that are in there now don't have those lines and the roller is actually wide like your good one there but, what is your opinion on reliable lifter for a 5.7 Vortec? A friend has a set of used Morel 7717 lifters with less then 1000k miles at a very cheap to me price. My questions are will this lifter work in a 2004 5.3l with a Texas Speed stage 2 low lift cam (not installed yet), Pros and cons please.

I installed the Morel 5321 hyd roller lifter and I consider them a great fishing weight or if your trying to wake the dead. Noisy as hell, rattle like a steel bucket with bolts in it. Always get comments from other guys when they hear my engine and ask "is everything OK in there". Dont buy the Morel rubbish.
If I run 60 thou and 80 thou preload on oem ls7s but suspecting either lifter bleed down or valve float, any recommendations for lifter or pushrod change? Was going to go 2110rs and remeasure, little 227/239 cam, nothing crazy. Anything past 6500 it goes nuts.

I got tired with garbage lifters and went to Johnson lifters since then I have not had a issue but before I was using other name lifters with their cams and on the flat tappet deal was going through cam and lifters on break in and have never had a cam break in issue but then it become a every single time issue.
So according to Morel. Their lifter stated in this video has a travel of 0.120. Not 0.200. Also the "caddy" lifters require a smaller preload as they are short travel, so no, using the same pushrod as the LS7 style is not ok as it will over preload the lifters. They require shorter pushrods due to the less amount of plunger travel internally. Just a few points of misinformation i noticed.
man i just bought a 2014 ss with the 6.2 ls3 , and the lifters are so damn loud in it, it has a btr stage 2 cam and headers and cold air and all that but the damn lifters just make the car almost embarrassing to drive it so loud , my wife got me the camaro so i really wonna love the car but with damn ticking is just keeping that from happening. can you tell me the best lifter to use with the stage 2 cam to quiet this thing down so i can enjoy it without feeling like im driving a half dozen singer sewing machines around?? preferably without having to do alot of rod changing and such.

@juanaguirre8001 no updates 😢 it's just as bad as ever,I changed rockers cause they had clicking in them and went to a upgraded bearing for them and that helped a little ,talked to some guys at a few car shows and they say it's the injectors not the lifters,and that the aftermarket injectors are noisy,but I really don't know that I believe that lol so sorry no good news from me
I was under the impression that Morel 6504 / 5315 lifters were a step up form LS7 lifters but maybe I was mistaken? If nothing else, the Morel lifters have a floating axle with lock ring and it seems like they have a taller machined surface that contacts the lifter bore. Both should be better for a cam with a smaller base circle.

Sound like a set of solids with 150 thou clearance and they are supposed to be quiet hyd rollers. Its all over the internet just google "Morel noisy", heaps of people having issues.
Whatever lifter you buy do not buy the Morel hyd rollers. You'd be better off with cheap ebay Chinese knock-off's. I bought a set of Morels and they have total rubbish. Noisy as hell, nobody want to own up to an issues and there's always a new excuse for the noise. After I started having issues I google'd "Morel noisy" and there's a lot of people having these problems. Bad quality to simply not working, noise all sorts of problems. I've tries all sorts of oils, all sorts of preloads, checked valve spring pressures. I've had the rocker covers off so many times I've lost count. Do yourself a favor and dont buy Morels, get some quality made in the USA lifters with a good track record. Morel is rubbish.

You wouldn't run a morel lifter to 4k rpm. they are junk. Listen to the man and run johnson, or johnson hi-lift or Gatermen and or the gm ones and that it it full stop!

I guess you have your answer, buy Gaterman (which we stock) or HyLift Johnson or Johnson. Morel are pure marketing, and they don't honor warranty (all the excuses in the world how it is your fault and they can't warrant the way you drive or build) Morel are just a Heartbreaking way to reduce your Engine to a piece of crap.

That’s why I only shop GPI. They help you threw your build and are very knowledgeable. You can’t beat great service.
Good to know. I went with the caddy race lifters to go with GPI stage III cam and Circle D stall. Yes, they cost a little more.

I chose the factory ls7 lifters that came with GPI cam kit 3 years ago. And after 3 years they failed.

Had a 2110 fail 2 days after they went in, and now it looks like a couple more are on the way out.

The morel's are renowned for the pistons getting jammed at the bottom. or sticky as you put it.

I am looking at 6500 rpms, .375 of cam lift and open spring pressure of 400#s.

Honest opinion is that we don't use their cams so I can not speak on how aggressive their lobes are on that cam.
What lifters came out in a genuine L77 and are they crap,im not talking about high rpm or racing just everyday easy driving

Noisy as hell, nobody want to own up to an issues and there's always a new excuse for the noise. After I started having issues I google'd "Morel noisy" and there's a lot of people having these problems. Bad quality to simply not working, noise all sorts of problems. I've tries all sorts of oils, all sorts of preloads, checked valve spring pressures. I've had the rocker covers off so many times I've lost count.
Do yourself a favor and dont buy Morels, get some quality made in the USA lifters with a good track record. Morel is rubbish.
I don't disagree. Some people swear by certain brands, for us.....that would be GMPP Race and Johnson!
Morel drop ins are now part #7717 for anybody shopping. Theyre supposed to have upgraded internals over the 6504s
Morels are rubbish. Do yourself a favour and buy something decent. I bought Morel and had nothing but issues. I think they must be made in China these days from recycled push bikes. Just google "morel noisy" and see all the people having issues.

Why wouldn’t you tell people to avoid morels if you know there are issues? I’m so fuckin tired of trying to find lifters that aren’t shit without spending $900. I got Delphi’s from Texas speed for a stock rebuild I’m working on for a friend. Gonna need some for a stage 1 tsp 6.2 for mine. I was considering morel.

You wouldn't run a morel lifter to 4k rpm. they are junk. Listen to the man and run johnson, or johnson hi-lift or Gatermen and or the gm ones and that it it full stop!

@@bones_atx6303 well, we have run morel to 5200 rpm but the rattle as they collapsed made your butt hole tighten. Still stand by our comment with the addition that the Crane Hydraulic Roller lifters were the Best. So now it's Gaterman, Hy Lift Johnson or Johnson, Morel if you want to end in tears.

I guess you have your answer, buy Gaterman (which we stock) or HyLift Johnson or Johnson. Morel are pure marketing, and they don't honor warranty (all the excuses in the world how it is your fault and they can't warrant the way you drive or build) Morel are just a Heartbreaking way to reduce your Engine to a piece of crap.
