You should look up his Friars Club roast from 2002. It’s on UA-cam. They say “We only roast the ones we love,” but there was little to no love in the room that night. About half the roasters were young up-and-comers (including Marc Maron and Stephen Colbert) who’d never actually met Chase, though they may have been inspired him. The ones who did actually know him didn’t have a lot of kind things to say about him. He later asked the producers why they didn’t get more people he knew, and they said they tried, but everyone turned them down. Most had nothing nice to say about him whatsoever. Apparently, the night ended with him going back to his hotel and crying his eyes out. I would feel bad for him, but after all the stories I’ve heard about his behavior, I don’t.
It’s still mind-boggling that Frank Zappa didn’t do drugs. Not that that’s a bad thing, but… he was _naturally_ that way? (Kind of how I felt upon learning that Ted Nugent doesn’t drink.)
Not only that, he'd even fire people if they ever tried to play or record under the influence, whether it hurt their playing or not. The man who wrote Freak Out... Haha!
@@The_sinner_Jim_Whitney Actually, _that_ I agree with. Most people wouldn’t come to work if they’re sick, so don’t come to my studio if you’re not feeling right (my studio is actually a bakery, but still).
@@COMPFUNK2 Oh, I get the concept and agree, but I'm here to tell you that a modest amount of certain drugs/alcohol won't hamper (and may very well enhance, sometimes immensely) some musicians' ability to play. For me (and there have been plenty of recordings that proved it, just because you THINK you played great while you were altered doesn't mean that was the reality), about three glasses of wine and just a BABY finger-dip of mollie makes me a noticeably better player and singer. Playing music for a living is different than nearly any 'normal' job, in that sometimes a little fuzz around the edges will yield a better, more natural performance than sharp focus will. For me, knocking the edge off keeps me from overthinking and helps me just 'feel' and do what the music needs me to. All that said, overindulgence in ANYTHING will immediately make almost any musician go all to hell, so it's perfectly reasonable to require that session or touring musicians be straight and sober while on the clock since we're not known to be especially rich in self-control, haha!
You need to understand that Donald Trump is ALWAYS Donald Trump. He never tried to sell himself as a master of comedy, but he was a good sport in being willing to participate in it as something he felt was worth doing. Of course, back then SNL WAS worth watching, because whether the host was good or bad, it was the regular cast that did the repeat characters we wanted to see. But to expect Trump to be anything but what he is, is like asking the sun not to shine.

Ratings were in the top 3 episodes of the season both times Trump hosted. No cast member had a problem with him during rehearsals and at the after party. Only two "cast members" "complained" weeks after the fact (by "cast members" I mean their PR team's intern when confronted by the same online partisan lobbyist.) In reality, both times he hosted proved to be quite successful. Not sure why he would be on this list, unless this channel approves of it's staff clouding their judgment with political bias.
There seem to be more than 10 people giving Milton Berle a standing ovation in this clip. I clearly have never seen his full appearance other than in this compilation but maybe his performance was just from another time. Rosie Shuster’s Dad may not have come across as overly funny either.
Uncle Milty was indeed from a different time in sketch comedy where improvisation was heavily used, and improv is a hard thing to time manage. I find it a useful skill as an actress, but only if someone has forgotten their lines and you need to get the scene back on track. Another difference for Milton was the number of commercial breaks and music breaks timed into the show, which television wasn’t heavy with the ads in the 50’s and 60’s. So any time he went overtime, it cut into the show’s profits from ad revenue which would affect their share price for that time slot, etc. Basically it was a clash of time periods and skit styles and they just did not blend. Another case of this came when Phil Silvers, who had his own show in the 50’s and 60’s, wanted to be in the British Carry On movies. They worked from set scripts and Silvers was like Milty, an improv man. A scene was just a jumping off point for Phil and it really rattled the other actors. He also didn’t blend very well. Sorry to write a paper on it, but I saw the episode live as a teen and I could see what was wrong from the start. It was going to be Milton Berle’s version of SNL or nothing. As to the ovation, I get the idea the friends were meant to stand up and start one and others who’d grown up watching him joined? 🤔 Ovations require suggestion by a few to encourage others to join.
Coup de grâce is pronounced coo de grasse. It means mercy blow, the final blow to kill, to put someone out of their misery. Now think of foie gras, pronounced fwa grah…liver paté-it means fatty liver. When you say coo de grah, you’re saying fatty blow. It’s nonsense.
The only time I really didn’t care for her hosting was her fourth (and most recent) hosting gig in 2008 (which was during the time when she made try to make a comeback; which included the critically panned film Liz & Dick). They never needed Bieber to host in person in the first place. Kate McKinnon was so much better doing Bieber than Bieber was himself.
To be fair, Kate didn’t start portraying him until the season _after_ he hosted.
