Sorry about the loss but one of the things I like most about your videos is your philosophy of life. I'm old now but wish I had learned much of what you say much earlier - take it as it comes and move forward. A great example for all. Of course your surfing is awesome and sharing your travels is great fun too.
Molly is a star. Hope she grabs the sunset title again to put her in the yellow where she belongs. I can't believe how much she has improved in the off season. Go Molly.
ps- 2 things: 1. im glad you included as many wipeouts as you did from all surfers, as it reiterates that these waves, especially hawaii, are waves of consequence and the experience, expertise, and great successes that you pros display come at a continued risk and price. 2. i want to reiterate that even though the slightly longer boards you are riding might be a tiny bit less or slower 'snappiness' compared to the smaller boards, you are powerful enough to drive them and maneuver them to suit your style and expression, while also allowing you to have a lot more stability on those bigger waves, and allow you to pull some big maneuvers, as you did on that cutback turn, at backdoor, so gutsy, and especially navigate through those barrels and around or over those big floater sections solidly. your big turns and cutbacks look so good on them. i would be interested to know how it feels for you and if its comfortable and facilitates your expression and responsiveness. i suppose the future will tell by what you continue with or change in your quiver and riding decisions so i will take note when mentioned, or shown :)
Lakey Heat 5 at Sunset is a winnable heat, A short memory helps, Goldfish have a one second memory . Pretend your a goldfish ...Lakey just relax let your talent do the talking hnd have fun fun fun
As always you’re so positive. Yea that was pretty poor Pipe, but how your rail game has been lately, I’m feeling Sunset is going to be good .Congrats to Molly. Thanks 🤙
what a nice episode. its great to see that you are enjoying your time in hawaii. i know its not my place to critique, but ill say that your surfing looked great, especially the free surf edits. the 6'6" looked really good and solid at pipe. the first 3 rights and the first left of that pipe sequence were really good looking. the drops looked elegant and solid, and those quickly drawn turns into your lines through the barrels looked excellent. that turn at the end of the first wave after the barrel was gutsy, and looked great with a slightly longer board. obviously, given my age and era and experience, i am partial to longer boards, and i know that your generation rides much smaller boards and rides them much differently. that said, i still think your surfing looked excellent on those longer boards. that third right where you dropped in, turned into the barrel, and started pumping through the tube was my favorite of the rights, and that first backside left looked really great with a rail grab and how you were navigating your way slightly pumping backside through that barrel. your stance looked so solid and great. proud of you. regarding the haleiwa, the length of the board looked wave proportional and great, as did your surfing. that said, that wave is pushing so much water in a thicker more different than pipe kind of way, that i noticed yet again the chop bounce that place seems to often have. your strong legs absorbed the bounce excellently, and your surfing the waves themselves looked very good and wave complimentary. that said, i wonder if the board was a smidge wider and thicker at that same length, if it would float a little more, stay on the water surface a little bit more, and take some of that chop absorption tension off your legs, allowing you to not have to work so hard when drawing your lines, and let the board serve you a little more. also, the nose of the board was raised a little due to your tail riding position, obviously for maneuvers, and i wonder if a wider thicker board, including a little tail thickness, would also keep that nose from being so high while still allowing for your power turns and maneuvers. basically the wider thicker board would be tailored more for sunset / haleiwa, and other breaks with a lot more powerfully variable wave conditions and characteristics (ie sections, etc) on the same wave, and thicker more turbulent water character where a little more board might (based on 80s boards), 'help'. or not, i dont know. i obviously see people ripping much smaller boards, but somehow i really like the look and the fluidity of the longer larger sized boards and how they are ridden. looking already this good at the start of the season is very promising for the year ahead. the rising tides event looked very very sweet, and what a cool thing for the wsl to do, and for you to participate in. those girls looked so stoked to get to surf and spend time with you :) ok, im outtie.
Thanks Lakey for this awesome behind the scenes video and all the best for Sunset, I have become a fan of watching surfing, it is such an organic connected to nature sport, really interesting, and it tests ones humility... and builds character. All the best
Aloha Lakey! LuvLuvLuv you and Molly together....! Mahalos for your strength & uplifting attitude as well :) Congrats to Molly on her Perfect Pipe 10 ! Stsy Stoked! Cali's Central Coast ❤! PS "Gail" should be GALE ... lime FORCE to be reckoned with! 🏄♀️👑 from Cali
Great barrel at 1:50! Just kept going. Definitely a bummer on first and elimination round wave quality. Hard to wait that long for that. Sunset should let you show that carve/power game well. Good luck!
Hello Lakey, my name is Mark. I watched you on Shark Tank with Surfset Fitness, I was totally inspired by you guys and bought a board for myself, I use it all the time, it has helped me tremendously to start out surfing, and San Clemente just so happens to be my go to spot for surfing. I was wondering if you would be around San Clemente March 9th? I would love to meet you and ask you a couple questions about surf?
Aloha Lakey & Tom, yes, sadly the conditions early on at Pipe were not good. I was bummed for you Lakey. However Lakey, your surfing form in those small conditions were still very good. You are just a big wave surfer. If the waves were bigger you would have been in the final with Pickles and that would have been a great battle for the trophy. You guys dress up beautifully!! Glad you are still working with Shane. I feel like your confidence goes up when he is coaching you in Hawaii. You both make a phenomenal team. Have you guys watched the Redbull documentary with Kai Lenny, Ian Wash and other Red bull professional water athletes called "Project Acheron: Patagonia"? This is a really good free documentary you can still find. Wondering if you used the same trek guides?? Good Luck Lakey at Sunset...the waves are suppose to be big. These are your type of waves Lakey to make your huge carving turns we all love to watch!! 🍀 Aloha (Happy Valentines days to you both also 💗)
A True professional and great mindset. Stay up girlfriend, it's only a matter of time until you are on the winners podium. I love your channel and all the inside looks you give us . Your my pick for sunset, those power carvers and snaps are money.
All the gym workouts won’t help a late drop at Pipe… Beggars belief why that last generation of women surfers didn’t ‘train’ at reef beaks. Got a weakness work on it, that’s what professionals do… Moana Jones Wong showed all to well that most women on tour are professional when it’s comfortable.

Glad you enjoyed it. And yes Shane is an absolute legend to work with.
I’ll have to check out that red bull movie! Sounds epic!
Thanks so much! 🙏
@@Lakey_Peterson you're so welcome.
I was just thinking about crowds EVERYWHERE Kelly Slater was talking about Africa just to avoid crowds
100%
Good angle of the camera. Shows the size of the wave better.
Glad you enjoyed 🙌

Gd'luck out there 🏄☀
Thanks 🙏
Cocaine Bear - Hilarious. 🐻
Haha
When’s the next pod cast with Molly ?
Você é linda demais Peterson ❤
Easier to dress up for girls than guys in Hawaii - heat even in February it's too warm for formal wear but you look great in a dress and heels
So true! Thanks 🙏 😀
That ER heat was won on turns and not barrels, your board look too long for tight turns . Black helmet looks better than white.
This year pipe was amazing, too bad the Woke Surf League cheated you guys and girls out of some excellent days,,
Ask Molly if she will be my valentine🫣
"Promo SM" 🙂
