    #Mandalorian #Episode7 #EasterEggs
We’re going to break down this episode, and talk a little bit about what’s next for Din Djarin and Din Grogu. So let's dive in, shall we?
So, the episode begins with Bo Katan leading the mandalorians on an escape through the tunnels, with axe wolves flying above the clouds to hunt the fleet. Now the last episode was called “Spies,” leading to some rampant online speculation about who these spies actually were. We were part of that speculation. All episode long we were waiting for someone to turn on the group-the armorer, Axe Wolves, the refugees-and it turns out the real spies were the friends we made along the way.
Doug: Seriously, who were the spies?
I guess the imperials who were living on mandalore? It’s a little wonky.
Doug: Should have picked a different title.
Should have picked a different title [high five].
There is a lot of fighting in corridors in this episode, and this is for a couple of reasons. One, it’s awesome and a lot of fun. Hallways compress the action into one narrow space and place the heroes in a do or die situation. It’s why his fights have become all the rage in TV shows.
But also, hallways are cheap to film in. In this show, and in Obi Wan, they filmed a lot on the volume, a 360 AR environment, which means it's easier to keep the environment in a tighter space [part in obi wan with caverns ep 5-6). Of course later in the episode the action explores outwards, which I’ll talk about in just a bit. Bo Katan uses the narrow hallway to set traps for the beskar-wearing troops, and you know what-these troops may be wearing beskar, but they still fight like the good old incompetent, cannon-fodder stormtroopers.
Over the years, Star wars has introduced troops that are better fighters. The death troopers that escorted moff gideon in season 1, and the sith purge troopers we see in Fallen order and obi-wan. Those troopers were trained to fight Jedi, so they are incredibly badass.
Doug: Maybe these troopers are really good fighters, but the mandalorians are just better.
That’s a good point. Later , Din barely takes them down, where he made mincemeat out of regular troopers in episode 3,
So back to the troopers, it is kind of lame that they only place two guards on Din. or at least, it’s very arrogant of them to think 2 would be enough. When he tries to break free, the dark troopers unload mandalorian weapons on him, like the grappling cables and flame throwers. Now their weapons were originally created to fight Jedi. a jedi could predict and dodge a blaster bolt, but a flame thrower creates a wide attack they have a harder time escaping from, while the grappling cable ties up their hands and neutralizes their lightsabers.
But these weapons also work well against mandalorians. The armor doesn't cover their necks, so the cable can choke them.
Doug: Why doesn’t the armor cover their necks?
Because if it did they couldn’t turn their heads and they would move like michael keaton’s batman.
    Doug: Ah I see.
And the flame throwers will super heat the beskar until they can;t stay inside of it. Like what Killian did to Rhodey in Iron man 3. We also saw in Star Wars Rebels that Beskar is vulnerable to certain types of heat and energy wavelengths that can completely fry the metal and anyone inside it.
My favorite part of this fight is when Din neutralizes this guy, but uses his flamethrower to attack the other trooper. But then, grogu is the one who saves din [no no no]. This season has brought these two full circle in season 1, din saved grogu from the imperials in season 2, din saved grogu form the imperials. In the book of boba fett, din saved grogu from a life of celibacy.
And in this season, grgu has saved din;s life twice. Kind of reminds me of the life debt that chewbacca owed Han…
Doug: or that Jar-Jar owed to qui-gon.

The real spies actually were the friends we made along the way - it's likely "The Spies" is actually a reference to the 12 spies Moses sends into the promised land to determine if it is safe, and so the Mandalorians were the spies all along. So, it's actually a really clever double meaning (regarding to both Elia/the Imperials, and the Mando scouts).

Michelle, I have to respectfully disagree. Din never took his helmet off this season and that had to have irked Pedro Pascal.
Coming off the red hot Last of Us series, PP is the star of the moment and straght voice work probably doesn't appeal to him at this high point in his career. I doubt we'll see/hear him in anything other than the Filoni movie.
Also, the Dins going off on side quests was, for me, the weakest aspect of this and all Mando seasons - I personally do not need an entire season of random missions.
The Dins are chilling at Hacienda Navarro - let's leave them be...until the galaxy is in peril again!

The ending scene is pretty obviously a western based ending with the homestead, trusty stead by the house, enjoying the land, chilling on the porch.
I think what makes it even better is if you look closely at Din while hes chatting with Greef, he's still rocking the dual pistols from the imperials, no side holster, and at least from what I could see it doesnt look like he has his vambrace weapons, at least the whistling bird launcher is missing. So he's just a basic gunslinger now, no fancy gadgets, no darksabre.

I was thinking about that as I watched this scene. These are astromech droids, they spend a lot of time directly exposed to space so OF COURSE they all have rockets to move themselves if they get separated from their ship. And as I typed this I recalled the D Squad episodes of the Clone Wars and the scene in Phantom Menace where these droids are shown crawling along the outside of various ships making repairs and fighting bad guys.

The scenes of the armorer fighting mid-air with her hammer and tongs were some of my favorites in this episode! I'm a curator and author with expertise in armor and medieval martial history, and seeing her strike troopers with her hammer as she flew past immediately recalled the use of war hammers of similar shape and scale by mounted knights in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. Hammers were quite effective against armored opponents since they relied on percussive impact, rather than cutting blades. They were so favored by riders for use while galloping through battle that they became widely known as "horseman's hammers." The Mandalorian armorer translates medieval fighting strategies from horseback to jet pack!

There were 2 mouse droids that fell off the ledge when r5 took off not just one. Just thought I'd point that out

THANKS for your work this season, Doug, Ryan and the ScreenCrush staff and interns!!! Also, thanks for telling me about Peter David, one of my favorite comicbook writers. I donated when you mentioned his plight the first time.

Thank you ScreenCrush for your amazing commentary and Easter Egg videos. I would watch them after every episode! Now I refer to you guys when watching anything sci-fi that I want to look further into! Definitely a fan!

I actually found this channel trying to make sense of Rings of Power lol. But ever since then I have loved your insights. Pretty much immediately after every episode of Mando, Andor, RoP, and Bad Batch I've gone straight to ScreenCrush to get a closer look and see the discussion around the shows. Thanks so much for your balanced, thoughtful, and insightful videos!

Favorite season, solid episode. I love the Armorer and so glad that they didn't assassinate her character by making her a traitor.

Very happy with how it ended. I was afraid they would have ruined it. Needless to say I was on the edge of my seat, afraid they were going to kill Din off.

You the best of the best Ryan. I like Screen Crush breakdowns especially of Star Wars, more than any other channel's because you talk like a genuine fan always. Keep up the good work.

I think maybe the spies was a reference to the scout patrol that went to check the surface. You talked before about the parallels between the Children of the Watch and ultra Orthodox Judaism. This small group could be like the spies that were sent into the promised land to report back to Moses (Numbers chapter 13)

Thank you ScreenCrush. Some of my kids like watching your channel more than the actual Mando episodes and it's neat seeing them get so excited to see all the Easter eggs. Your team is awesome! You bring joy to so many people. Mahalo nui loa!

I must say that Screen Crush goes into more detail than any other Star Wars review channel. Great work! Love how the stories interweave on multiple series.

Maybe Gideon was a mandelorian who followed Maul, which is where he got the idea for the security hallway that resembled the hallway from Naboo?
