Whats so weird about the show imo is how they got Boba’s personality in mando correct. He’s ruthless by having Fennac aim a blaster at a baby but with a sense of honor as once he gets his armor he helps Din with getting his son back. Then come Book of Boba Fett he’s this kind hearted man. I think it would have been cool to see him become an honorable leader but from what I saw he didn’t go from a ruthless man into a honorable man he’s just honorable now.
Narrative consistency between two creative camps that probably despise each other? You ask too much! It's like demanding Leaving Las Vegas Nicolas Cage to appear in the 5th Redbox film he shot that month.
It’s crazy how boba fett is more badass in mando season 2 than in his own show. Also his theme in this is the best part of the show (excluding the mando episodes)
@@thegoldman25 I find it's because Mando has more of a fully formed personality, even though he's stealing the spotlight, he was oddly a breath of fresh air. Or at least that is my opinion.
Kenobi: A space adventure featuring a wide range of planets Book of boba: A show about a man staying on tattooine holding his ground and protecting his area Somethings not right there
Excellent points. My heart drops when I think of all the wasted potential in this show as well as the corporate meddling forcing a premature reunion between Grogu and Din. I just can’t believe Favreau and Filoni would have reunited these two characters so quickly and in such an odd way (Luke doesn’t even include a note with Grogu to explain what happened or have a holo-conversation with Din making sure Grogu made it there safely). I have to believe Disney executives forced this reunion on the show, which really makes me nervous for Mando S3.
You can tell this and Kenobi we're supposed to be two hours movies that they stretched out to be 6 hour stories. I honestly think that may be why they seem underwhelming.
Kenobi for sure. I'm not sure if that was ever the intent for BoBF. I think that Book of Boba was just a really rushed production for the sake of putting out a live-action show in 2021 lmao.
@@D4C_Gaming Of course it was the intent. Josh Trank and James Mangold were both attached to a Boba Fett film well before it switched to the television format.
Yes this and Kenobi were originally going to be movies but because of the reception of Solo they pulled the plug on them and any future “A Star Wars Story” projects. Which while the movies feel more grandiose then the shows I love that we get more content and worldbuilding in the shows. Though it really hurt Kenobi and Fett as those should’ve been movies. Other stories like Solo or Andor are better suited for a show format.
I find it insane how Dave falloni wrote the episode where both Luke and Asoka act completely out of character saying how grogu needs to abandon his family when they both are the 2 characters who disagree with that and have had whole arcs about that, literally Luke’s whole arc is about him not abandoning the people he loves when kenobi and yoda want him to.
@@StrykeSZN Dave seems to make plot holes quite often but they are weird plotholes that he of all people shouldnt be making, like how in the newest clone wars season pregnant padme was seen and talked to by anakin before the attack on coruscant. I dont get how a guy whos actual job is it to make this stuff and know this stuff somehow knows less than me.
See I interpret that scene very differently. Luke isn't making the same mistake as the old Jedi. Quite the opposite. He isn't forcing Grogu to become a Jedi. Contrary to popular belief the prequel era Jedi never kidnapped any children, most parents have them up voluntarily and if they didn't want to give their children up the Jedi respected their choice. Still, that was the parents making a choice not the children themselves. The Jedi couldn't even fathom that maybe becoming a Jedi wasn't everyone's dream. I mean look at how surprised they are whenever someone leaves the order like Dooku or Ahsoka. Luke is different. Grogu reached out to him for help so Luke helped him. He taught him enough to not be a danger to himself or others around him and to defend himself if the Empire comes after him again. He gives him basic lessons but he doesn't force him to become a Jedi. He let's him choose if he wanted to continue his training and become a Jedi or return to Mando and he respects his choice.
@@-Maxi.exe03 Its not a matter of interpretation bro, what is luke, the only jedi thats allowed to have a family and loved ones? And the show says none of what your saying bro its just they messed up the script lol. Interpretations are cool and all i love it for the prequels but in this case we know how all over the place the writing is in this era, plus Asoka is telling mando not to see him when in reality she would be the character to go like its good for him to have a relationship with someone while training he considers family, they just wanted Grogu back for season 3 because they think he is what is selling the show, so they made luke and her act out of character to accomplish that.
I can’t state enough how much I wish the show was just Bobba’s story with the Tusken Raiders, and have it end with him finding Fennec. It’s easily my favorite part of the show and could have easily been a whole season of TV if they went that way.
You know, you're right. I really dug the Tusken scenes, but hated the Mos Espa scenes. He became almost like a bad cartoon. The writers had a great source material character and no one knew what the heck to do with him. Didn't ANYONE give a critique of their initial script?
19:03 What’s actually worse is that even if you have watched the clone wars cartoon, you still don’t know the history between these two characters because the episodes where they were supposed to explore it were never finished.
Imagine a parallel storyline with Cad Bane as a toxic mentor of young Boba Fett. Then Cad Bane is the object of his inner and outer stories. The inner journey is to "unlearn" what Cad Bane taught him, to find himself and let go of the "villain" that Cad Bane turned him into. Developing healthy/positive relationships with Tuskens and other people on Tatooine can be part of that. Maybe even some material in the Return of the Jedi timeframe. And then his outer storyline is the confrontation with his former mentor Cad Bane himself. That gives Boba a proper story arc and makes the fight between Boba and Cad an earned story culmination. You could even have a parallel fight where the young Boba gets his @#$ kicked and helmet dented by Cad Bane - setting the stakes for the rematch. The tragedy is how much the "whole" of the show fell short of the parts they got right and how much potential it had. (Ohh while I'm at it - an army of Tuskens ride in as the cavalry to help Boba in the finale, take out the two Mando episodes, open with them and make them part of a split season 3, maybe even make 3 or 4 episodes, you could easily split Ep 5 into two episodes. And maybe take out the flashbacks and create interlude chapters that can be integrated into a new Mandolarian "watch order" like an episode with Mando and Fennec that you watch after S1E5 "the gunslinger" )
When we originally saw A New Hope we didn’t need the backstory between Vader and Obi Wan when they battled. Lucas intentionally started the story in the middle of a classic serial and intentionally didn’t want people to know what happened between them. Brilliant writing as it fueled everyone’s imagination!
Whats funny is that Fennec did have that kind of talk with another character, with Omega on The Bad Batch. They really developed her more on two episodes of The Bad Batch than on an entire show where she’s supposed to be the second lead…
The acid trip scene with the tree did include imagery of boba in the sarlaac, so I think that experience caused the change in perspective that could have been explored more
Along with the close sense of community in general with the tuskens. He never really had a sense of community before. When he was a child, it was just him and his father who was often never there, then as a young bounty hunter he learned very early on not to trust his colleagues. This is most likely the very first time he was brought into a family. It softened him up and made him more open to connections.
I also see his battle with cad bane not only as a battle with his past but also a battle with who he used to be. Cade bane is a personification of who he was when he was all alone. Ruthless. No empathy at all. Feared. He refuses to be that man again. He wants to rule with respect and protect his new community at all (maybe not ALL) cost.
@@nathan122009 It actually does make some sense if we consider his arcs in The Clone Wars. In the cartoon, Boba did seem to want a community. He even seemed to lack his father's total indifference towards the other clones.
This Boba Fett doesn't seem to know anything about the criminal underworld. He constantly needs to be told obvious advice by Fennec like *"We need more men"* and *"You need to project power"* and *""Don't trust the other crime bosses".* He's so innocent and naive he's like a senile dairy farmer visiting the city for the first time.
@@One.Zero.One101 it helps if you look at it as him being told these things for the audiences benefit Yes its dumb and makes him look dumb (it should really be him saying these things) but i have always seen it as fennec reminding him Hell i have worked in a warehouse most of my life but even i forget things from time to time ....and i havent spent the majority of my time going mad from a conbination of sarlaac venom, bacta tank time and tusken raider lsd
@@unluckygamer692agree. I think it’s part of his evolution from being lone bounty hunter to whatever he’s becoming…an honorable and well-liked Daimyo, open to wise counsel, interacting with the community.
Boba has forever been my favorite character and I always wanted to see his more honorable side that we see in clone wars explored more. I’m glad this show actually attempted that but I think they want too far with it, because they effectively ignored his reputation as the most ruthless bounty Hunter in the galaxy. Mando season 2 had it done perfectly, so it’s weird how they dropped the ball with this show. Despite all of that the show still has some very high highs for me, especially him escaping the Sarlacc, his confrontation with the Hutts in episode 2, and him finally getting some action in the finale. I hope they bring him back to greatness in mando season 3
Boba helped Din rescue Grogu and let's be real, without him Din wouldn't have succeeded, or at least it would have been way more trouble, so I don't think Din had 0 reasons to give his life for him. Especially after he was kicked out of his covert and told it was better he never saw Grogu again, I bet he felt like he had very little reason to keep going. Couldn't it have been done better? definitely but I think the character work was there, they just directed it poorly (which is the biggest problem in this series imo, the story was there, they just wrote and direct it really badly, I wonder if production was troublesome bc it was the first production done in covid times)
I think the problem with the Pykes is that the series sort of assumes you already know about who they are. Considering the fact that they first showed up in Clone Wars and then in Solo. From those, we know that they’re pretty much the Cartel of the Star Wars universe.
See my favorite thing about the book of boba Fett is that it's so true to his character that for one of his episodes he's not in it and another episode he doesn't get any lines. Like that is what boba Fett is. Dude was on screen for like a minute or two and then died in a sarlac pit and it was only a book and now finally this TV show that brought him back. Him not having an episode in his own TV show and an episode that has no lines from him. Perfect! Absolutely perfect!
They could have done that in a much better way in my opinion. They basically just cut 2 mandalorian episodes and threw it in there. They could have instead done some backstory on the city, or even the pykes or other characters.
Mando and bobas relationship is not as weird/complicated as you think it may be. If you recall in episode 6 when boba meets mando, there is a small, unspoken Scene where mando is searching the wreckage of the razor crest , and boba assumingely realizing that mando just cares about the child AKA his son. Something we all know boba relates to. Mando and boba are both outcasts in their own cultures. And they obviously trust each other. And to a honor bound warrior, trust is everything. So hopefully that helps you see things in a different light.
I think Boba Fett would be better off if they never feature Mando and Grogu reunited and featured it later in Mandalorian season 3. Also explore other planets that haven’t been explored much since Attack of the Clones (besides Tatooine). Also would be cool if Boba gets revenge on Mace Windo for killing Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones and it should have ended that way but I could be wrong
The teenagers are called 'mods' not 'vespas'. They were influenced by the British Mod movement of the 60s (google 'The Mods and the Rockers'). Mods drove Vespa bikes, which is what inspired the speeders in The Book of Boba Fett. It's actually a pretty good concept. Every generation of teenagers does something to stand out and break taboo. It figures that kids on Tattooine would want to make their own unique stamp on the culture
@@skiron5453 Errrm. I disagree. It's absolutely in the spirit of what George created. Most of the original canon was satirical of things in the real world. The execution could have been a little better, but I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Star Wars has always been a bit pulpy and satirical like that. It's part of what makes it so appealing to all age groups and sub-cultures. For example, the Rebels and Ewoks in Star Wars were inspired by the Viet Cong, the Empire by the Nazis, he Emperor was inspired by Nixon, chewie is supposed to represent a faithful dog, many of the titles and institutions are taken from ancient Rome, the Jedi represent the Samuri, Shoalin Monks and the Knights Templar, Han Solo is a cowboy, the deathstar represented the nuclear threat of the cold war etc. etc. etc. I could go on and on and on. It's not breaking Star Wars, it's adding to its legacy (even if you don't like it).
@@kieronimo1 There being parallels between our world and star wars doesn't mean anything can be included and not break with the world building. This was a fair, balanced, & considered review, and a great retrospective. Thank you! Subbed. Personally, I liked TBOBF, I thought it had some fun ideas and some much-needed world-building, but it's not my all-time favourite SW offering. 22:36 -- "Anyone can be your family" -- Heh. That's the entire focus of Karen Traviss' superlative five-book "Star Wars: Republic Commando / Imperial Commando" series, which is essentially the motherlode of Madalorian culture. In fact, the central tenet of the series is five words (three in Mando'a): Aliit ori'shya tal'din -- Family is more than bloodline. Best. "Star Wars" novels. EVER. Anyone who hasn't read them should definitely check them out. The first book starts everything off a little slowly, but from then on, it's all amazing. Action, intrigue, raw emotional rollercoasters . . . cannot recommend them enough. 33:30 -- "How's a casual viewer supposed to know that they need to watch a show called "The Book of Boba Fett" between "The Mandalorian" Seasons 2 and 3?" Because Disney is arrogant enough to believe that they have no casual viewers -- only rabid, adoring cultists who are voracious consumers of ALL their content. 😉
That idea of Luke bringing grogu is mint. It is annoying they waited a little for their reunion. It could've brought so much more to the story if mando started his mandalore reclamation story, only to have luke pop outta nowhere with grogu.
I don’t know why people don’t think he’s still a bad ass??? The whole arc with the Tuskens showed us that he finally got a family. And people who were there for him. And gave both Fett and the Tuskens some humility
Even Cad Bane says that Boba in fact can be a Bloody Killer after being beated but Boba Don't want that,i know that its not the Boba of Legends but i personally like this Boba
in regard to the Pyke/Pike, I think the reason we don't see multiple different looking 'types' is because its specifically focused on the 'armed forces' of the race whereas With the Tusken, we see the whole community. Also, the series was focused on Boba fighting them, but the series wasn't focusing on that, it was focused on a few different plot lines revolving around Boba Fett.
Here's an idea to make TBOBF better. Add two more episodes between 6 and 7. One episode about Boba, Din, and crew going to Obi Diah to try and stop the Pyke's plot on Tatooine. The other episode that's a set up for the finale and more backstory for Boba set back pre-AOTC on Kamino. The present day scenes can feature the Mos Pelgo militia visiting the palace to help Boba and gang prepare for the fight on Mos Espa and Cobb Vanth recovering from his encounter with Cad Bane. The flashbacks can feature Young Boba, Jango Fett, Lama Su, and Cad Bane on Kamino where Boba learns to be a bounty hunter with Jango and Cad on a training course. Then we get the finale fighting the Pykes in a gang war on Mos Espa which wouldn't be too different from the finale we got except Cobb would play a role in the fight this time and there'd also be a stinger at the end where we see Cad awake and recovered on his ship where his droid Toto healed him after his duel with Boba. Then a Qi'ira reveal on a hologram communicator setting up Crimson Dawn as the antagonists for season 2. Like in your rewrite for the series. Take it how you will. I'd have more details but this is all I can write down for now.
If they are going to continue the Book Of Boba Fett I'm hoping they take it in a direction where Boba and his crew of ex-bounty hunters travel the Outer Rim to clean it of it's criminal element. They can be the Star Wars version of the Guardians of the Galaxy with less comedy.
22:00 In season 2 of The Mandalorian, although Grogu doesnt directly express that he wants to join the jedi order, Luke does tell Mando that he wants his permission to go
This is an amazing analysis, I can't argue with a single point. BUT, for me, Book of Boba Fett slaps so hard. I loved it even more in the second viewing. We got an entire, small story that's laser-focused on crime lords on Tatooine.
it's so nice to see people who can just have fun with things!! so often if feels like star wars fans are so negative about everything and it's nice to know others are just enjoying star wars for star wars
9:00 in, you're talking about the "Mod Gang" (Vespa kids)... I have to say, even though I'm less than a month away from being 56 years old, if I were in that universe, AND around that age group, I would have done what they did. I was an outcast at that age, and I remember what it was like to be an outcast in my youth. I could really relate to those kids. Hell, I went to a music and gaming festival recently, and connected better with "young people" (those half my age or lower) because I didn't judge them for their love of whatever franchise they loved. As I said repeatedly, "We are all fans of SOMETHING, and that's why we gather here, and we don't judge anyone for loving what they love." I didn't get a single argument out of anyone for that, because it was true. I think I surprised them, just for my accepting attitude. I was pretty open about having been the "outcast" in my youth, and technically, I still am one. The people I grew up with have gotten old, because they chose to "grow up". I didn't. I chose to remain young in my mind, and while times have changed, not everything has. Outcasts are still looked at sideways, just because they/we are different. It's actually worse for me, because of my age. "Those kids are weird, but they'll grow out of it", they say.... but they look at me as if I've got 3 heads and 8 arms. "What the Hell? Why didn't HE grow out of it?!" they'll say. Because I didn't want to.
I think that a lot of people don't understand what Cad Bane's death symbolized. If you think about it, he is what Boba once was, a ruthless hunter who's only in it for the money. Hell, Bane was even the one who trained Boba. But as both got older, Boba realized that a village is more important than just yourself, and Bane didn't change at all. So when the two come face to face, Boba, a changed man after spending 5 years with the tuskens, is basically coming face to face with his past. Him killing Cad shows that he's leaving his past as a bounty hunter behind him and moving on to the next chapter in his life. And as for Boba's nice personality, we see in the Clone Wars that he was a very honorable person, who didn't want to kill when it wasn't necessary. We see him hesitate many times when the cold hunters around him tell him to kill. He only wanted to elimate his target with minimal collateral damage. We also see his fondness for having a crew behind him. It wasn't until Bane started training him that that persona was buried beneath the heart of a solitary killer. His time with the tuskens brought that personality back out. Making Cad's death even more symbolic. Now I understand they did a horrible job of conveying this in the show for people who didn't watch the animated shows, but I think this is what they were getting at.
In fact, I've just noticed something, this show works more to complement the other shows. Boba's charecter arc makes more sense when you consider the clone wars. It also works as an interlude of sorts between the the mandalorian season 2 and 3. On it's own, disappointing, as a companion to other shows, decent.
I think most people understand the significance of Cad banes death. But it doesn’t matter how much subtext something has if it’s actual text is so dumb. It’s like a painting filled with intricate symbolism and meaning but painted with the skill of a high-school kid. It doesn’t matter how smart the painting is if it didn’t punt the groundwork in
People have said this alot and its true: you know theres a problem when the only good episodes of a show have fucking nothing to do with the main character
The mechanic guy is played by the musician Thundercat. So Disney+ has introduced 2 bassists into Star Wars canon with him & Flea. Thundercat even toured with RHCP last year lol.
My take on the Boba change (Have only watched the movies, boba and mando shows) was that he took up bounty hunting to deal with his trauma of losing Jango, after falling into the sarlacc and presuming the empire and jabba to be gone, there's nothing left for him to unleash his anger on, which causes him to find a purpose for himself, in this case the tuskens, he's a kind warrior but he still has that bounty hunter fearlessness when the need arises, such as fighting (The fight in Mando s2 being a good example) with Cade Bane, whilst their history could have been more fleshed out, I think acted as a physical representation of what Boba used to be, sort of killing his past self
I really, really dislike the tuskens. They could have done so much better stuff than him finding his honor through tuskens. He was raised by one of the best Mandalorians ever. Why not use that? Why not make him remember what little he had left of his childhood under Jango? I understand that he was disliked by a lot of Mandos throughout his life, but it is just wasted potential.
He is the worst character if he only dedicated himself to the bounty hunting profession, really, isn't he doing it to honor his father? puff now I understand why your program failed.
@@philippa.4554 They didn't do it because no one is interested in Boba Fett anymore, not even by investigating it, Favrou thought he knew the character but I only reinvent it because it already has its mysterious character, quiet, bounty hunter and leader of all mandalore DIN and for silly a simple sandbox.
Look, I have no problem if you wanna do a redemption story, my problem is why did Boba Fett forget everything he knows? He doesn't seem to know anything about the criminal underworld. He constantly needs to be told obvious advice by Fennec like *"We need more men"* and *"You need to project power"* and *""Don't trust the other crime bosses".* He's so innocent and naive.
Bobas main struggle is not becoming like his father. He was left for dead and forgotten in the sand like his father same as fennec. The moment he killed cad bane is when he proved he's raised above Jango. I think it's mostly about breaking the lineage of your past like how Boba and the Rancor are both bred for violence yet they can learn to be caring
Yeah this is all this show has. “Wouldn’t ‘fill in the blank’ be cool to see?! Let’s do that!” without any thought going into the broader meaning or depth of the story. This is almost the biggest L I think Disney Star Wars has taken to date, wasting the potential of such a cool/loved character.
Boba was changed because he was “Left on the Samds of Tatooine” to die. He also was forced to work with the Tuskens. He had zero choice but to work with them. He was there for a pretty long time! Considering it’s been 5 years we do not know exactly how much time it took him to go from relctantvpartner of the Tuskens for survival to actually caring about them. But that was 109% what Favreau was going for as the life changing event!
@@rosesweetcharlotte I agree. Also think that was the motivation for killing Bib Fortuna. Revenge for not sending someone to save him. It seems it’s not that hard to kill the Sarlacc with a spaceship. Fortuna could have killed the Sarlacc and got Fett out of there. His friends/employer abandoned him to die a horrible death they gave to enemies!
@@mrfloosak Let's see, my friend, Boba died inside a sarlacc, it was clear that they could not recover the body and it took time, he was in the sarlacc for 5 years, just a few days with the pike. If you watch the series, just when Boba enters his tribe after the assault He goes to the train for a meeting with the pikes and they just murdered his people, so yes, this show has absurd script holes.
The issue with the pikes is that the show does show all the culture they have. The pikes are a criminal syndicate that operates almost like a corporation. They deal in rare spices and slaves. And that’s that. We’ve seen the pikes plenty of times in Starwars and I personally think something’s dont need to be more fleshed out then they already are.
It was cool, although I was expecting a "Goodfellas in space"..expecting a few more of the OG Bounty hunters to link up with Fett but those are my expectations..wanted more of the Hutts tho
I liked the show even with its flaws. Hopefully a second season will be coming and Boba will have some badass moments. I liked his journey with the Tusken Raiders. It showed them as more than savages.
If they produce another season of this humiliating garbage, they have finally come to a point of no return. Idc if you liked the show (which is bad enough), but producing a second season would just waste money that could go into a different attempt on actually saving Star Wars. The Book of Boba Fett is probably the worst series of all time (not exaggerating) and despite most of Disney's Star Wars being garbage, nothing exept Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker comes even close to how fucking bad it was.
Fun fact: in legends boba fett actually fell into 3 more sarlacc pits, and after the 3rd one he got into his ship and blew the absolute shit out of it with his cannons from orbit
This is probably gonna be really unpopular but The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett are definitely peack Star Wars. None of the movies could capture my internet and I didn’t care for Star Wars whatsoever. But after giving Mando a go, I was hooked on Star Wars. The finale of BoBF was awesome, I had always loved the Rancor so it was cool to see it actually do something. It was basically 100% fan service but probably only to me.
I would have preferred *Boba* re-establshing himself as the best/deadliest bounty hunter, like in the *EU.* He had to rebuild his credibility after the Sarlaac. See him travel to different planets, take the most dangerous jobs, run into some old bounty hunter faces. Could of been hell of a show.
Yes, but neither favrou nor filoni like the character and they prefer that he be an old man who gives him anxiety to be a bounty hunter who prefers to live legislating taxes on a sandy planet.
I just can't hate this show. It's silly and stupid, but also just so much fun. The weirdest part to me is that a lot of it depends entirely on the viewer watching The Clone Wars. And not just any arc in The Clone Wars, but specifically an unfinished arc even the most hardcore fans weren't sure was canon.
@@right_hand_power7960 There was a very short few unfinished episodes where Boba Fett teamed up with Cad Bane, with Cad Bane attempting to make him more like Jango. It ended with them in a duel and Boba winning
It could have been good. He survives the pit. He’s content living w/the tuskins. He hears of a guy in mando armor. Checks him out. Sees he’s doing good things w/the armor and isn’t going anywhere. He’s fine to keep living w/the tuskins and knowing where his armor is. Then the bad guys kill his tuskins. He switches back to full Boba mode. Gets back armor. Gets back ship. Acts like crime boss to infiltrate and completely destroy everyone involved in the tuskin deaths. Becomes the town hero. Realizes he likes saving the good guys from the bad guys and is going to continue to do that thru out the galaxy. And that leads to people and warriors flocking to him. And that leads to ruler of new mandalor at his new palace. Seems perfectly simple to me.
Hot take: Fett smoothly transitioned from being a bounty hunter (someone who aids those in power in catching rule-breakers) to being a crimeboss/community leader because both professions show a love of hierarchies and order. He has an authoritarian personality type. To me, the transition from bounty hunter to "crimelord" in the context of a lawless place like Tatooine is totally believable.
"this older guy." My man, That is the legendary Stephen Root. You gotta show him respect. He deserves it. If ya going to name-drop Danny Trejo, give Stephen the same attention!
One thing I'd like to add to Luke's ultamatum is that Yoda also said to him in The Empire Strikes Back that he can either finish his training or leave to save his friends, Luke never got a choice like Grogu did.
It wasn’t a black & white, either/ or choice. It was more inline with cause & effect. Because Luke didn’t finish his training, he got his hand cut off effectively lol
@@adamplentl5588 I would say it was not exactly the same kind of choice as Grogu had. Luke told Grogu : "Okay, so you can choose between this and this. You can make your choice". But in Empire Strikes Back, Yoda was more in a mind state of "Don't leave, you idiot!"
22:30 This is incorrect, we see in the Anakin and Obi-wan comic as well as in the High Republic book series that being a Jedi is an affirmative choice by the Padawan. They are free to leave the order if they wish, they can even leave and then come back once they're ready to be a Knight. Luke giving Grogu this choice is not an evolution of the Jedi philosophy.
They definitely made Boba too much of a “good guy”. He can still be an honorable and a respectable leader, while also being a lethal badass that won’t hesitate to eliminate those that get in the way. Another thing is heavily under utilizing Boba, as well as Cad Bane. Cad without a doubt was such wasted potential. He could’ve been an amazing villain. Introduce him like with his scene with Cobb, beat the everlasting shit out of Boba and Finnic where they barely get away, and then come to the final dual between Boba and Cad where Boba comes out on top (in a more satisfying way than what we were given). Plus, putting in Mandalorian and Grogu re-uniting was kind of a let down. Save that for season 3. I loved it when it happened, but this show is really just Mandalorian season 2.5.
then you're a FANBOY and "SUPERFAN" exactly the WRONG KIND OF FAN that just sends a message to Disney that they can make Starwars in whatever pissy, lazy and unplanned way they like, and Fans like YOU will still just lap it up. All you are is a "Enabler" for Disney to keep interfering in the Creative process of Starwars Stories, preventing them from being "Great."
Slave 1 would have done more damage than the Rancor. Boba could have stopped the Rancor had they not been separated fairly easily because it's imprinted on him. In a ground battle where you want as little innocent casualties as possible, airial bombardment isn't the right choice.
The Creed is the Reason for Din helping Boba and the fact that Boba helped save Grogu. Din sees Boba for what he is...A Mandalorian or rather a representation of what Mandalorians were. People may deny it but Boba is a Mandalorian, He is what the other Mandalorians are based on. Hell he even comes from a clan that called themselves "The true Mandalorians" The Creed so many Clans have broken is....Mandalorians by creed have to help each other and protect the Mandalorian people. Due to the fact that there are different sects of Mandalorians, A rift has formed and many of the mandalorians have broken that creed basically removing their title as Mandalorians...Even the Armorer who was on the moon failed to come to the aid of the Manalorians on Mandalore during the night of a thousand tears. The Mandalorians have to find a unified code. One that allows for different sects to come together and restore the creed.
I agree with you on some points, but Boba Fett isnt a Mandalorian. At all. Not in canon. He even makes fun of the code infront of Din. Its a wasted opportunity that Boba is being taught honor by the tusken raiders, i really really hate that concept. He was literally trained and raised for a few years by one of the greatest Mandalorians ever, Jango. Now he has Din. Yes, he was disliked throughout his life by Mandos, but I feel like they still could have done something with that? Maybe not have made him a full on mando that follows the resol'nare, but at least gain his sense of honor instead of getting it from the tuskens.
If everything you say is true, unfortunately, filoni and favrou are not interested, so don't even think that boba will have the fame or respect he deserves for having been the first, he is only the shadow of DIN jarin and his baby yoda.
I never really hated it unlike some people although it was not the best show, but it did have some highlights. I really enjoyed the Tusken Raider episodes because for some unknown reason I loved them since I was a child. I think my main problem with the show is that Boba didn't do as much as he should've done, it's almost as they wanted to extend the show but didn't have enough budget for more episodes. It's probably not the case since The Mandalorian should've gotten them some fat stacks, but the series still felt incomplete. I don't think Boba Fett's character is ruined though, they can still do many cool things with him in Season 3 of The Mandalorian as the new Daimyo. Mando visits Tatooine a lot so I think we are guranteed to at least have one episode including him, maybe he will even have a larger army this time around. I would also love to seen more of Black Krrsantan.
Wouldn’t say boba is an idiot by any means, Jon just didn’t care about writing him when there’s clearly so many good stories with him they could of done but they just didn’t
While the show was underwhelming, Id say your review helped me appreciate it more. In the back half you claim that the war with the pykes is pointless because boba attacked first, when actually the "war" started when they ran their train through the tusken territory, killing them. Boba helps take them out, then later in the finale understands that the pykes will stop anybody who opposes them. when the move their trade to the streets, that puts the people in danger, so it is smart to hold out in the city, where the people are
The thing that ticks me off so much about this show and its reception is the fact that so many star wars fans said “Robert Rodriguez should never touch Star Wars again” when most of the blame for the show’s falls falls on Feloni. Feloni wrote and produced the entirety of the series and while Rodriguez directed the most, he didn’t have a say in the show’s direction. To me, Rodriguez is the man who realized Boba Fett into the legend all the Boba Fans saw him as to the general audiences, not the man who destroyed him.
@@chasehedges6775 In your opinion. I enjoyed Boba Fett more because I enjoyed the characters of Krysantan, Cad Bane, Drash, the Tuskens, and Fennec Shand and Boba more than any of the characters in Andor. Also enjoyed the action more! But I love everything Star Wars!
I really love this show sure it had some bad parts but we saw him go through an actual character arc. He was a killer then he found a family (the Tuskens) when this family was taken from him he changes his motive. He just wants a family. Throughout the saga people keep telling him he’s just like his father Cad Bane even says this “You’ve got your fathers blood pumping through your veins.” This show wasn’t about him becoming a leader, it was about him finding a family and proving to people that he can change his fate and be better than Jango. And when he’s in trouble he ignites the killer within not to cause harm but to protect his people. When he’s attacked by assassins he spares them symbolizing that people can change. He doesn’t want to be like other rulers this is shown by his dialogue with fennec. Where she says to him that he should be carried around to show his power and he declines. He faces real struggles with the mayor when he returns the assassin when this approach doesn’t work he becomes the killer we knew him to be. To protect and serve his people. Cad Bane isn’t just a villain but a reflection of his past. And with that he ultimately defeats his past. The show takes his death not as one but as a rebirth and a chance to change.
Bane not dying in the cancelled TCW duel (the one that, before its cancellation, gave Boba's helmet its dent) feels like a disservice. How are you going to have the 2 greatest bounty hunters, and, more importantly, *gunslingers,* end their decades-long feud with a fistfight?
RE Luke: He shows an incremental improvement over the previous Jedi, but he also sends the kid back to a dangerous planet escorted only by an astromech droid. He can’t be bothered to deliver him himself. In doing that, he puts Grogu in the middle of a chaotic battle between mercenary factions. I’m sorry, but we see in all of this the seeds of his failures with Ben Solo. We see how he didn’t learn enough from the mistakes of the past to understand that emotions need to be processed, not repressed. And the galaxy pays the price 20 years later.
So, the BoBF isn’t a stand-alone series. It’s setting up plot points for the future of the entire cohesive story that is the retaking and independence of Mandalore and the downfall of the Imperial Remnants. And how does BoBF tie into this narrative and foreshadow to future events? The same reason that Episode 5 is more about Boba Fett than most would think. In Episode 5, we see The Armorer say, “The songs of eons past foretold of the Mythosaur rising up to herald a new age of Mandalore. Sadly, it only exists in Legends.” As The Armorer says this, she is standing in front of the hanger compartment for her tool cabinet that has a familiar image painted across it’s doors. The Mythosaur skull. However, it’s not just any style Mythosaur skull as we have seen many variations throughout the canon, it is specifically the style that is donned by none other than Boba Fett. And when we look at the scene when The Armorer tells this story, it’s important to pay attention to the message being conveyed. “The Mythosaur will rise up to herald a new age of Mandalore.” And as the Armorer tells the legend, this hints that there is still at least one “Mythosaur” still alive. And being symbolic, as the tales of Mandalorians always are, only one wears the Mythosaur skull, known as the “Mandalorian Crest”, and he lives on Tatooine. The Armorer also specifically uses the word “Legends”. And every time we hear the word “Legend” used in canon, it foreshadows to something in the Expanded Universe being brought into the new canon. From the reintroduction of Death Watch, the Darksaber, the Mythosaur. And the last time legends was mentioned in canon, Ahsoka said “There is always a bit of truth in Legends.” And then we get the reintroduction to Grand Admiral Thrawn into the current canon. And in Legends, Boba Fett takes up the mantle of Mand’alor, leader of the Mandalorians. He restored Mandalorians back to their previously renown strength and power. The Book of Boba Fett has been setting up Boba Fett to be less of a solo, ruthless, vicious bounty hunter and more into the type of leader that the Mandalorians need. And seeing as Din Djarin is reluctant to be a leader, and more so a loyal knight, it’s obvious the direction of the story will be passing the Darksaber to Boba Fett. Who has been actively bettering his mentality, his moral beliefs, and becoming a better melee combatant.
Yes, but let's face it, Boba Fett is no longer a legend, now he is an old man who is anxious about being a bounty hunter and prefers to live in a giant sandbox with emos and banthas, he is not a mandalore, apart from that it seems that they also want to give that position to DIN or grogu by script and favoritism of the author who would not want.
They introduced 10 characters in 2 hours of screentime. Hard to service them all! Two episodes were dedicated to Boba in the Desert and Two episodes were devotee to Mando and Luke. Leaving 3?episodes. Probably under two hours for like 7 new characters, Boba, the pikes and Fennec! They have left the development for next season most likely!
I'd say that Luke was subtly pushing Grogu to embrace his passion in order to have him choose the new path that Luke wanted to lead the Jedi towards, almost like Luke was asking if Grogu wanted to continue towards the "tried and true" method which was comfortable, or embrace the new ideology which was supposedly on the table the whole time
Over the decades, I knew that Boba Fett falling into the Sarlac Pit was no different than Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie diving into the Death Star trash compactor; he’d be out by lunchtime.
I think it would have been cool to see him become an honorable leader but from what I saw he didn’t go from a ruthless man into a honorable man he’s just honorable now.
so true, it's so odd
Narrative consistency between two creative camps that probably despise each other? You ask too much! It's like demanding Leaving Las Vegas Nicolas Cage to appear in the 5th Redbox film he shot that month.

That definitely feels like a big reason why they are so underwhelming
Kenobi definitely, not sure about this
Kenobi for sure.
I find it insane how Dave falloni wrote the episode where both Luke and Asoka act completely out of character saying how grogu needs to abandon his family when they both are the 2 characters who disagree with that and have had whole arcs about that, literally Luke’s whole arc is about him not abandoning the people he loves when kenobi and yoda want him to.
i aint think about this but damn you right
filoni makes a bunch a stuff disne accepts what gets put in. this is not his fault.
19:03 What’s actually worse is that even if you have watched the clone wars cartoon, you still don’t know the history between these two characters because the episodes where they were supposed to explore it were never finished.
oh yeah, their arc where boba got the dent in his helmet, i would've liked to have seen it
Cad Bane should have been introduced into the show WAY earlier. Waiting until the end of the second to last episode was a big mistake.
@@michaelsinger4638 He really should have
Imagine a parallel storyline with Cad Bane as a toxic mentor of young Boba Fett.
The acid trip scene with the tree did include imagery of boba in the sarlaac, so I think that experience caused the change in perspective that could have been explored more
ur right, but it's not enough for me tbh
@@thegoldman25 I 100% think that Luke and Ahsoka did not need to be in the show at all.
Let’s not forget Fennec’s role of explaining how Jabba operated…. To Boba Fett.

Couldn't it have been done better? definitely but I think the character work was there, they just directed it poorly (which is the biggest problem in this series imo, the story was there, they just wrote and direct it really badly, I wonder if production was troublesome bc it was the first production done in covid times)
good points
I think the problem with the Pykes is that the series sort of assumes you already know about who they are. Considering the fact that they first showed up in Clone Wars and then in Solo. From those, we know that they’re pretty much the Cartel of the Star Wars universe.
Something would alleviate this problem is if the Pykes had an alliance with the Hutts.
@@unluckygamer692 You're right, they should have cut three mandalorian episodes and pasted them in to screw Bobo over even more.

For example, the Rebels and Ewoks in Star Wars were inspired by the Viet Cong, the Empire by the Nazis, he Emperor was inspired by Nixon, chewie is supposed to represent a faithful dog, many of the titles and institutions are taken from ancient Rome, the Jedi represent the Samuri, Shoalin Monks and the Knights Templar, Han Solo is a cowboy, the deathstar represented the nuclear threat of the cold war etc. etc. etc. I could go on and on and on. in regard to the Pyke/Pike, I think the reason we don't see multiple different looking 'types' is because its specifically focused on the 'armed forces' of the race whereas With the Tusken, we see the whole community. Also, the series was focused on Boba fighting them, but the series wasn't focusing on that, it was focused on a few different plot lines revolving around Boba Fett.
Ok, but can I just take some time to appreciate the theme song? Ludwig Goransson knows what he's doing!
It's just a fun show and it's hard to hate it
it's so nice to see people who can just have fun with things!! so often if feels like star wars fans are so negative about everything and it's nice to know others are just enjoying star wars for star wars
But they aren't crime lords, he doesn't do any crimes and just talks to people
@@leonrussell9607 He's just getting started. You have to let the people you're going to rule who you are and what you're going to do for (or to) them.
Because I didn't want to.
it’s interesting you mentioned character conversation scenes and did not mention andor …
They both starred in mediocre Star Wars shows.
i've never heard of either one
@The Gold Man you've never heard of the Red Hot Chili Peppers? Flea is their bassist, he played the head kidnapper in Kenobi.
@@chasehedges6775 lol yup
Watch the clone wars then comment again
He is the worst character if he only dedicated himself to the bounty hunting profession, really, isn't he doing it to honor his father? puff now I understand why your program failed.
@@philippa.4554 They didn't do it because no one is interested in Boba Fett anymore, not even by investigating it, Favrou thought he knew the character but
I only reinvent it because it already has its mysterious character, quiet, bounty hunter and leader of all mandalore DIN and for silly a simple sandbox.
That BOBF music brings back quarantine life memories for me...
Fennec Shand (Ming-na) felt more like how Boba Fett should be here than the actual Boba did.
i suppose
Ming Na Wen was fantastic in this mediocre show
Ruthless but reasonable.

A few years ago I read a star wars comic with krrsantan in it. Seeing him in live action was pretty epic.
it was cool, but they could've done more
Absolutely
It does seem like he was traumatized from not just the sarlaac, but specifically that he was left there and absolutely no one came back to help him
@@rosesweetcharlotte I agree.
@@mrfloosak Plus, doesn't really seem like he was hiding that well. No one even came looking for him
@@rosesweetcharlotte who would he be hiding from? He’s
Grogu needed to come back to sell merchandise.

The mandoverse shows are great to anyone who watched and enjoyed the clone wars and rebels series. It’s a new generation of Star Wars.
@@UnDark1 I started watching Clone Wars recently and yeah it’s pretty good
I would have preferred *Boba* re-establshing himself as the best/deadliest bounty hunter, like in the *EU.* He had to rebuild his credibility after the Sarlaac.
I wanted the sopranos in starwars. That would have been perfect
Love that mando basically stole the MC from boba when he shows up
I just can't hate this show. It's silly and stupid, but also just so much fun.
The weirdest part to me is that a lot of it depends entirely on the viewer watching The Clone Wars. And not just any arc in The Clone Wars, but specifically an unfinished arc even the most hardcore fans weren't sure was canon.
What arc?
@@right_hand_power7960 There was a very short few unfinished episodes where Boba Fett teamed up with Cad Bane, with Cad Bane attempting to make him more like Jango. It ended with them in a duel and Boba winning
That was the problem this is not the clone wars it's boba fett or rex playing governor in the space sandbox.
Another amazing video!
Great video I know you spent a lot of time on this.
Thanks for watching Meg! Always a pleasure
"this older guy." My man, That is the legendary Stephen Root. You gotta show him respect. He deserves it. If ya going to name-drop Danny Trejo, give Stephen the same attention!
I really appreciate the dive into tusken raiders
One thing I'd like to add to Luke's ultamatum is that Yoda also said to him in The Empire Strikes Back that he can either finish his training or leave to save his friends, Luke never got a choice like Grogu did.
Except he did. He left to help his friends, got his ass beat, and then finished his training.
I have a feeling that corporate dictated that Grogu needed to come back.
The Vespas are very much based on the MOD youth culture in Britain in the 1960's. They favoured the Italian 'Vespa' scooter.
mando is willing to risk his life for boba's cause because of their mutual respect for eachother as mandalorians.
Meanwhile, the villains and characters in Andor are really good.

Best Star Wars show/content I’ve seen so far
@@thegoldman25 it really is

i will never get over how dirty this show did cad bane in the end
Great thumbnail mate!
Looking forward to listening to your video!
The thing that baffles me is why the main theme song for this show is so incredible when the show is kinda just okay.
The best part of book of Boba Fett is the theme 😂💯

A mixed bag is the best way I can describe BoBF.
I thought it was bad until I saw Obi Wan. Now I think it's still bad and Obi Wan is worse.
I also tried rewatching it. To see if I was too harsh on it. It somehow got worse.
i still don't like it at all

@@mrfloosak You're a fan of spectacle, not story telling. Andor excels in that department farther than Kenobi & Boba.
I really love this show sure it had some bad parts but we saw him go through an actual character arc. He was a killer then he found a family (the Tuskens) when this family was taken from him he changes his motive. He just wants a family. Throughout the saga people keep telling him he’s just like his father Cad Bane even says this
“You’ve got your fathers blood pumping through your veins.” This show wasn’t about him becoming a leader, it was about him finding a family and proving to people that he can change his fate and be better than Jango.
What’s crazier is that here we are a year later……
RE Luke: He shows an incremental improvement over the previous Jedi, but he also sends the kid back to a dangerous planet escorted only by an astromech droid. He can’t be bothered to deliver him himself. In doing that, he puts Grogu in the middle of a chaotic battle between mercenary factions. I’m sorry, but we see in all of this the seeds of his failures with Ben Solo. We see how he didn’t learn enough from the mistakes of the past to understand that emotions need to be processed, not repressed. And the galaxy pays the price 20 years later.
Good point. It is rather sad that Boba Fett of all people seem to have a happier ending for their life than Luke does
You shouldn’t call them the Vespas. That are Mods! An obvious nod to the teen rebels who ride mopeds in Quadrophenia!
The Mandoverse already reminds me of the CW’s arrow verse and for that I am scared
Yes, but let's face it, Boba Fett is no longer a legend, now he is an old man who is anxious about being a bounty hunter and prefers to live in a giant sandbox with emos and banthas, he is not a mandalore, apart from that it seems that they also want to give that position to DIN or grogu by script and favoritism of the author who would not want.
this is good stuff, surprised you aren't bigger than you are
Oh god I forgot about that super slow chase scene, that was so embarrassing.
Great analogy with Boba & Tony Stark!

There are some pretty decent fan edits of book of boba Fett that make it much better
I think it was fine. No harm no foul. It was not brilliant, it was not garbage either.
I like how boba got to cameo in a show with the same name as him
I'd say that Luke was subtly pushing Grogu to embrace his passion in order to have him choose the new path that Luke wanted to lead the Jedi towards, almost like Luke was asking if Grogu wanted to continue towards the "tried and true" method which was comfortable, or embrace the new ideology which was supposedly on the table the whole time
Over the decades, I knew that Boba Fett falling into the Sarlac Pit was no different than Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie diving into the Death Star trash compactor; he’d be out by lunchtime.
