I love the fact that he took a "lesson" from Thomas Laing ! Just goes to show how humble and dedicated he is, a guy this amazingly skilled still trying to make himself better.....wow
Q: do you know what a metronome is? wait for response. A: A little short guy from the big city. thank you. that is my original joke. and I hope to live long enough for it to come full circle. also do you know how to get a bass player off your porch? A: you pay him for the pizza. have a great day & God bless Y'all.
3:00 song is "Space boogie" and the year 1980 ... but what a spectacular album. And the drumming throughout that song should render Simon Philips some kind of medal!!! :D I just stumbled over this lesson ... #53 ?!!? OK ... :D
What a great video! It's ironic. I came across another of Greg Bisonnette's videos and I really liked it. And this is quite interesting as well. He's very knowledgeable.
Wow, very cool! I always thought Cobham played that groove with a jazz ride cymbal pattern, not quarters. I think I can take Gregg's word on it. Glad he's keeping the double-bass shuffle alive, too! I met him in 1990, at Drummers Collective. Great guy & of course an awesome drummer!
Cobham actually was using all kinds of variants of that double bass drum groove during Mahavishnu days. Check out the composition Trilogy from the Between Nothingness and Eternity album. He also uses various variants on Birds of Fire, and live performances of the music from the first album. Some of the versions are odd time signature versions, but I believe they are with a shuffle ride or implied shuffle.
Hey wait, at 2:26 I was just going to make a little joke about how he grabbed the cymbal to stop the ring. Being that it's not a real cymbal but the little jokes on me. I didnt know you can choke those cymbals
What happened to his voice? Every video that I have watched of him talking, he seems to have a very woren out voice. Hope he gets better from it at some point.
these drums sound awful
sad but true 😢

@Steven Pounsett Lighten up, Francis.
It's true you can change sounds but every sound seems to sound awful and artificial. The cymbals are the worst.
Mr Gregg...you are an amazing drummer...my life wont be complete until i get the chance to jam with you!

I really enjoyed those. Hope you are doing well.
Very insightful but I'll stick with my acoustics.

Awful bloody sound
pretty cool.............good lesson [ still........ all these years later ] pretty cool neighbor too . thx, wb
Gregg Bissonette and Thomas Lang on the same street? I wanna live there!!! Lol
It would be funny if they were 1 house apart on same side of street. The neighbor in the middle would hear drums all day and night.
Or close by
I can play the skin flute at double base speeds and beyond.
7:38 "you're not gonna wake anybody up..."
- maybe *you're* not gonna wake anybody up. My wife wakes up when mice fart....in the neighbors house.
There is a reason Gregg is a drummer...
I am right handed but I lead with my left on double bass drum shuffles. Crazy weird. It works.
What a great video! It's ironic. I came across another of Greg Bisonnette's videos and I really liked it. And this is quite interesting as well. He's very knowledgeable.
I would kill to have Gregg as my drum teacher!!
Press and repeat.... ----> 4:32
Gregg is one of the most down to earth, humble and coolest drum guys out there, and that's no mean feat.
I love double bass, I knew it went back years but the 40's! christ that's a long time ago.
After David lee Roth what he was doing? I never hear of him since.
true all around player! that's what I will always work towards.

Gregg just seems like a great dude. Liked the stories here and instruction on the V drums.
Does Gregg record or play live with V Drums? I saw a clinic with him way back when,it is so awesome he can give you an answer in detail .
Everything you said is very true. I still love the cow bell in Going Crazy!! GET B33T UP B33T LAB Dennis Stone Drumming
Oh yeah..Quadrant4. Billy Cobham changed my drumming life forever.

lol where you're from dude
Where am I from ? That's funny and original. Yeah I know, you already knew about it. It's no big deal.
