The first time my hognose nuzzled into me, I actually freaked out a bit. I hadn't really touched or felt his nose before then, so I had no clue that western hognoses' hog noses are super hard and feel kind of like a combination of a fingernail and a callus. Once they do it to you a few times and you build up some trust, it becomes plain adorable.
Okay this is now my most favorite channel this guy is so happy and entertaining and also I have wanted a hognose for so long and this is actually so informative
My little hognose, Nope, just came today and I'm already in love. The name Nope is because that's what the entire family said when I started introducing them to snakes about a year ago. Clint, Emily&Ed of Snake Discovery and Adam Wickens of WWR helped my husband and kids conquer their fear of reptiles in general, but especially snakes. We've slowly worked our way up from cresties to beardies to hoggies😆 and they're so much easier, more rewarding and less dangerous than "common" pets like cats and dogs.
This video really made me more interested in hognoses. I've always thought they were cute, but typically the ones I've seen videos of have been very small and hated being handled. Seeing an older and larger one that isn't consistently trying to strike really makes me want one a lot more. She looks pretty chill.
"They have chew on you for a minute" .. my 25 gram baby boy got to bit me with teeth in less than 5 secs when I was putting him aside for enclosure cleaning 🤔 .. It itched for about 20 minutes and kinda lost sense/feeling in a finger or those 20 minutes but there wasn't swelling so ima good and I know that I am not alergic to their venom what is good since I am gettin 3 more babies this week 🤣
Oh my gosh...THANK YOU!!!! Not 10 minutes ago I was handling my dream come true..my first stake! A beautiful Male western hognose I just got about a week ago! Hes become the apple of my eye. Getting used to handing him..finally getting over that initial shock of his hisses and boops..and as he nestled in my arm I definitely felt the wiggly nose digging where it touched my body and had the thought he might be trying to chew. I'm so glad you covered that. Now I know hims just burrowing! I just love my time with him. Hogs have my heart for sure. Snakes with personality!
I'm seriously considering getting a hognose so I've been looking through UA-cam videos and this is so incredibly adorable, sent this to my parents to hopefully get them on board😆😅
Alternate title : Clint geeking out over how cute hognose snakes are. The burrow into your hand thing scared me the first time I held my hognose. I thought he was gonna bite. Then I realized what he was doing. It made me jump a little but I didn't drop him fortunately.
I've fallen so much in love with hognoses (not just because og your videos, but they have played a part). I've always found snakes fascinating, but preferred lizards, but these ones just appeal to me so much more?? Also props to you for actually featuring an adult hognose - most other videos showcase very young ones in their grumpy teenage years. Darkside is a lovely lady. I very much hope I can get my first snake, and one with a tiny little shovelnose, soon. Better start watching your 'how to convince parents'-video on repeat ;) Until then, I assume there is a video coming on hognose specifically since they were featured in the '5 great pet snakes' video(?). I'm looking very much forward to that and any other videos from you. You are truly one of the best reptile channels out there :D
I just learned something about hognose snakes that's not usually mentioned...they kinda stink. I don't really think it's a bad smell though. Just different.
Brennen Canfield its possible but i know they are much more difficult to keep. They tend to be very picky about their food and may never take an unscented rodent they are also known to be a good bit more tempermental
Ironically my hognose snakes name is halo, but she bites alot (also she bit me and my hole hand swell up pretty bad ) does anyone know how to make your snake less... bitey..?
Question here about Hognose feeding. I have seen many videos on these wonderful snakes but have never actually seen anyone feed them toads. Is this more of an issue with sourcing feeder toads? Or is there another reason? Love your videos! New subscriber here and happily making my way through all of them.
I've always loved snakes but I have only had one which was a mexican kingsnake who I named scott and he went missing after like a month and was never found rip
Yeah, I call my hognose my Grumpy Snake. Sometimes he hisses at me, sometimes he hisses at his food and then refuses to eat it :p Btw, what kind of morph is your Darkside? She's a beaut.
Clint's Reptiles it's my old Hognose My current lot are not so keen on the camera and won't stay still when out. I agree on the feeling the hard nose and thinking it's them biting or starting to chew on you
Laughing so hard right now. One of my hogs loves foot SO much that she even mistakes chicken-kebab for food. Yab, she bit me because my fingers smelled like grilled garlic-chicken.. XD
Seeing as you've done a collab with them, do you think Snake Discovery is a good breeder to get snakes from? Or is there anyone else you'd recommend? I'm still deciding on whether to get a hognose or a garter, and it would be my first snake.
Their coloration is very reminiscent of a rattlesnake. Probably not a coincidence. But that head gives them away as just being silly little shovel-noodles :)
I have a young hognose who burrows a lot and if I try to handle him he gets very moody and strikes even though I've handled him a fair amount of times I'm not sure what to do with him :(
Still in the acclimation period with my first Hognose. I got him last Wednesday. How long til he won’t be nervous with me? When can I start desensitizing to handling?
Almost accidently stepped on an eastern hognose once. That snake looked huge. Too bad it's hard to keep an eastern, that impressive size is impressive.
I really would like a western hog nose, I have a bearded dragon (he’s 3, I’ve had him for 3 years), I know snakes and lizards are different, but would you say their easier or harder than a Beardie? Thnx 💖
I've only seen one in the Houston Area, but I used to handle them all the time in west Texas. I have been envenomated by one that bit my thumb. That's when I found out they did indeed have fangs. I had a stinging and burning thumb that swelled a little for a couple of days, and then was fine. I have seen them play dead which is fun to watch.
i have a male ball python right now and he is an absolute pleasure- i'm been looking into what i should get for my second snake, and i really want a female western hognose. they're so precious
But you watched it, right?!? Now you may go... wait, watch all of our other videos first. Watch them two times. Make a playlist of them so they can run while you're gone. Then go!
My hoggy has the exact same colouring! If you havent managed to handle your hoggy for a while will you be able to start handling them again when they get grumpy? I feel like a bad hoggy mum please help
I was anticipating more information about how to handle a hognose snake as the title says, somewhat disappointed there’s not more “how to” please redo or add-on!
not really I just did a lot of research and I feel they are the ones I could care for the best for I wouldnt want to hurt them because im not capable of caring properly
Hi can u do a video regarding their bite and how/most effective way to get them to release asap? I had a baby one now, she is the most chill baby with no attitude! Never hiss never strike at all since I got her, she even came out to linger around her cage when I'm around. Till one day, I'm not sure if my hand smell of food but I did wash, she decided to take a bite and cling on and I admit I do have a phobia of her mouth getting near me now! 😭😭😭 I pinch her head to get her off of me asap as I'm afraid of the venom! I'm just shock because she show no symptoms and the next moment she is clinging onto my finger! Please do a video regarding hognose and why do they bite??? Thanks!!!!
They should only bite if hungry as they have tons of defense mechanisms that don't include biting. As for the venom, their fangs are at the back of their throats and the venom acts like a bee's where it is only dangerous if you're allergic to it, otherwise the worst that will happen is swelling.
Haylan192837465 I took her out a few days ago, and she did open her mouth at my hands, I quickly move her away, no rats or mouse nearby or out, i wash my hand prior too.. don't know what is wrong 😭
I let her hand around my finger and then I use my hand to touch her nose, then she proceed to open her mouth Wide at me! It is not feeding day yet and I also wash my hand with soap prior to handling too
I just can't get over how adorably nerdy you are with reptiles
The first time my hognose nuzzled into me, I actually freaked out a bit. I hadn't really touched or felt his nose before then, so I had no clue that western hognoses' hog noses are super hard and feel kind of like a combination of a fingernail and a callus. a hognose... *plain* adorable? i smell a pun
plains adorable
Okay this is now my most favorite channel this guy is so happy and entertaining and also I have wanted a hognose for so long and this is actually so informative
So much *YES*
I ALSO LOVE THIS CHANNEL
U are literally one of the best reptile channels
That literally made my day. Thank you so much! :)
I agree Clint has the best reptile channel ever !!!
Agreed
I Agree. Clint is my 2nd Favorite pet Reptile UA-camr.
No...
THE BEST reptile channel
This guy is the reason I got a hog nose...
I used to be terrified of snakes. Deciding to get one was the best decision I’ve ever made.

They're amazing! Just spectacular! Make sure you get one that is captive bred (unless you have a ready supply of toads).
Yeah feeding toads doesn't sound fun, luckily I know of at least two really good breeders nearby me that I could likely get one from!
I have an older one that loves to be handled, a little hissy to get out sometimes but super doclile as soon as you have a hold of him
"They have chew on you for a minute"
.. my 25 gram baby boy got to bit me with teeth in less than 5 secs when I was putting him aside for enclosure cleaning 🤔 ..

Do you have any eastern hognose snakes? By the way she is a beautiful snake. Their little nose is so cute
Not yet, but I am considering one. They are so beautiful! I'm still doing my homework on them :)
Clint's Reptiles cool
I'm seriously considering getting a hognose so I've been looking through UA-cam videos and this is so incredibly adorable, sent this to my parents to hopefully get them on board😆😅
Thank you! They are so cute, aren't they? Let me know what your parents think :)
Same got my dad slightly on board so I'm getting one Sept 5th
This channel is going places. I can just tell.
Thank you so much! It is comments like that that keep us going.
I agree Clint' S channel is 100000000 out of 10
You called that one!
It went places
you were right
You're like Emilio Estevez if he were a very enthusiastic snake expert
Alternate title : Clint geeking out over how cute hognose snakes are.
The burrow into your hand thing scared me the first time I held my hognose. I thought he was gonna bite. Then I realized what he was doing. It made me jump a little but I didn't drop him fortunately.
Why didn't you tell about the black belly and your snakes look so cute and cool!
😍😍😍😍😻🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍

I loved the video, saludos desde México!
I.....this video didn’t help but...k
Hognose..Part cobra part opossum
You have the best channel and I mean the best
Awww! Love the content!! You're videos are the best! Little snek is cute
I just learned something about hognose snakes that's not usually mentioned...they kinda stink.
I don't really think it's a bad smell though. Just different.
Yup...my 4th hognose tried to eat my finger today. I think she's hitting a growth spurt! She's living up to the hog part of her name! Lol 😂
Can you keep Eastern Hognose snakes? I don't know if there are any breeders that breed them.
Brennen Canfield its possible but i know they are much more difficult to keep. They tend to be very picky about their food and may never take an unscented rodent they are also known to be a good bit more tempermental
Um when do you think you'll upload again
We're still figuring out which day is best, but we will be releasing a video every week from now on!
Darkside? Get another one named Darkness, then you can have the Darknesses like Rick James used to call Eddie Murphy.
When my hoggie "strikes" me, I just call it aggressive booping 😂😂😂
Ironically my hognose snakes name is halo, but she bites alot (also she bit me and my hole hand swell up pretty bad ) does anyone know how to make your snake less... bitey..?

You deserve so much more subs
I've always loved snakes but I have only had one which was a mexican kingsnake who I named scott and he went missing after like a month and was never found rip
Instructions unclear, my snake clipped into the backrooms
Yeah, I call my hognose my Grumpy Snake. Sometimes he hisses at me, sometimes he hisses at his food and then refuses to eat it :p
Btw, what kind of morph is your Darkside? She's a beaut.
I think shes a sable but I'm not sure
Where would you recommend buying one from
Any good breeder. You definitely want to buy one that is captive bred, or it will probably only want to eat toads.
Mine is a tiny baby and still scares me with bluff strikes
Cute!
Aren't they wonderful??
Clint's Reptiles I’m getting a baby hog nose have any tips on what do feed it?
I have a Hognose so love to watch videos on them 👍 please keep the updates on yours coming
What about handling babies that are more active and slide more to the side than forward?
Hey you are awesome your so cool I love your channel
Thank you so much! We are having a great time making these videos. We hope they help :)
Cool Hognose
Thank you! Is that your hungry little guy in your picture?

That’s why you wash your hands before handling snakes
Her name is dark side? She must have a spicy personality.
I’m trying to get a hognose snake and I almost have enough money!!!!
Love your channel! I have 2 bearded dragons and just got a hatchling crested gecko. I dream of having a hog nose ❤️. Looking forward to future videos
Thank you so much! You have picked wisely, and you have good dreams!
I want a hognose snake. They look derpy. They also play dead.
Great video! And I was wondering what your Hog’s paint job is?
My hogs are both wild-type coloration. One is very light and the other very dark. Just natural variation.
I hope someday we get a video on the Madagascar giant hognose
This man is so adorably nerdy.

I think Emily would be a fantastic choice. I also recommend Don's Garters and Great Basin Serpentarium.

Thank you!! I absolutely love the positivity and good vibes you emit in videos.
I need a solid color going if they come in there with those patterns sometimes they remind me of a rattlesnake and it freaks me out
Their coloration is very reminiscent of a rattlesnake. Probably not a coincidence. But that head gives them away as just being silly little shovel-noodles :)
Clint's Reptiles I know...just can't get by the patterns lol😀
I'm so excited!!! Klaus ate his 3rd mouse! Now I can hold him a little! So happy!!!💜
I’m a simp for Clint
I want a hognose so i can name it pumba
I have a young hognose who burrows a lot and if I try to handle him he gets very moody and strikes even though I've handled him a fair amount of times I'm not sure what to do with him :(

Aww, I really liked the video, but was so disappointed that there wasn't more :/
Don't fret, we will have a full video on hognose snakes in the near future!
Almost accidently stepped on an eastern hognose once. That snake looked huge. Too bad it's hard to keep an eastern, that impressive size is impressive.
I had a group of those. My wife thanks they look like Benedict Cumberbatch and she loves them.
I really would like a western hog nose, I have a bearded dragon (he’s 3, I’ve had him for 3 years), I know snakes and lizards are different, but would you say their easier or harder than a Beardie? Thnx 💖

How often should you handle a hognose snake/take them out of their enclosure to properly get them accustomed to being handled?
I loved this video. I just found your channel and I'm already hooked. I can't wait to see more videos from you. :)
What a great friend!!! Thank you!! Hognoses are my favourite snakes!
i have a male ball python right now and he is an absolute pleasure- i'm been looking into what i should get for my second snake, and i really want a female western hognose. they're so precious
Why do you measure snakes in inches?
Because they have no feet. I found this somewhere.
This came out just I was about 2 go 2 the pet shop lol
But you watched it, right?!? Now you may go... wait, watch all of our other videos first. Watch them two times. Make a playlist of them so they can run while you're gone. Then go!
Don't worry I definitely watched it first lol
No tie? Is this one of your first videos?
Love your demeanor!
Thank you so much!
not rely venoms' it toxic salvia I love vids m8 keep them comeing
Any advice for someone wanting to get into breeding snakes?
So I’m getting a western hognose snake and I was wondering what it feels like if it were doing a little tag and how to avoid that
2:20 you're a pleasant little creature too 😂
Why thank you!
You should do a ranking video on the leg less lizard
1 st yaaaaaaaaayyyy
Victory is yours!
I love this guy!
Mine is great I named him jake
My hoggy has the exact same colouring! If you havent managed to handle your hoggy for a while will you be able to start handling them again when they get grumpy? I feel like a bad hoggy mum please help
What do you call this hognose? I'd love one with a black underside
Where can I buy snakes?
recommend any good vendors to order one from?
Great Basin Serpantarium

legit
I want one but there venomous
That's debatable. The venom is extremely mild.
So the Venom won't kill you
Not even close.
im thinking about getting a hognose, spotted python or corn snake as my first one
You have good taste!
not really I just did a lot of research and I feel they are the ones I could care for the best for I wouldnt want to hurt them because im not capable of caring properly

They do go through a adolescent phase where they're a bit more irate for a bit. How old is your snake?
Haylan192837465 she is as thick as my pinky, I would say about 5 Mths?
Does he even listen to himself, holy shit!
If you're talking about the snake, then no. He doesn't have any ears :)
